How can you rate how cool a nationality is? I dont understand, haha. I think Canadians are cool, then again, thats probably because I am Canadian. But I mean, POUTINE! Yums much?

Ok now that I got that out of the way, haha, I think polls like that are lame. but hey, I’m American and I cannot help but agree with the results.

WTF? I actually think Belgians, Turks, Canadians, and Germans are pretty damn cool. And I may be biased, but I was hoping Australians at the very least would make this list. I keep hearing that Aussies are pretty cool. (I’m ethnically Slovak and Croatian but no one knows about them lol)

This is another reason to call us Americans aggroant. I bet the person that conducted this study is American. 

Why don’t people consider San Francisco when thinking of California? It’s always Los Angeles/Hollywood. Are people geographically challenged or what? There is a Northern and a Southern portion to CA. Just like any other state in this country. Los Angeles only makes up the SoCal part while San Francisco/Silicon Valley makes up the Northern part.

I feel left out in this gigantic state.

@AsylumBlue@datingish - I disagree. A reasonable degree of Nationalism is a healthy pride in the land that one comes from. I think all people should have it for their home land.

@theflowerstem@xanga - Yes and no, I didn’t figure it was worth fighting over. A lot of people like to get on the “I hate America therefore all Americans are stupid” band wagon and I think it’s lame. It’s really nothing new so I figured it wasn’t worth one more fruitless discussion about.

@written_conversations@xanga - No you don’t, you are correct, but where you come from and where you grow up is a pretty important thing. In most cases it shapes a lot about you, your world views not being the least of those things. Enjoying your ethnic identity is something that strengthens your personal identity and is also something that strengthens a sense of community spirit. 

When country A does country A traditions every year and eats common country A foods and plays country A music then they naturally feel a sense of identity and, thus, pride in it. Theres nothing wrong with that. Nationalism is one of the things that kept the women of America strong during WW2 when they had to care for the family and keep the industry of nation at war alive. And a hunger for Nationalism is one of the things that motivated a desperate Germany to embrace Nazism. Like anything, sensibility and moderation is key.

@Yoru_Kendo@xanga - I wasn’t going to fight, I was just going to tell you I wasn’t stereotyping all of us, I was just letting people know exactly why some people in other countries dislike us. I have noticed a lot of people on the internet (esp. tumblr) that hate being American, but I wasn’t trying to give off that impression.

Where are the Caldari? The Gallente? Goodness, what about the Amarr even? This is a hugely biased survey. None of my favorites are on there!

@theflowerstem@xanga - Fair enough. I guess a large portion of people that point those types of things out are the I hate Americans type. I guess I, myself, cannot understand why a person would hate being the nationality that they are. I know this country has a lot of problems, but hey what country doesn’t right? Perhaps its the evils of the past that some people try to make the current generations feel guilt over? Or perhaps its our current politics over the last couple decades? It would make an interesting study.

I would agree that Germans aren’t very cool…

I can honestly say I am surprised by the results of this poll. It makes me wonder about the people surveyed. Were they mostly United States Americans? If so, these results would be expected. If not, then I’m glad to hear some positive attitudes toward the US.

 Canadians aren’t cool?! That’s crazy. I think Canada is awesome.

Irish are the coolest.  I’m also saddened that Aussies aren’t on there.

Did they investigate which nationalities voted the most, though? Considering Americans tend to have the most internet access and the boredom to do polls like these, I would bet that a large number (if not the majority) of the voters were American anyway. I personally don’t know any non-Americans who think America is #1 for anything other than some negative things.I’d guess that most of the voters on this poll were American.

@TheTheologiansCafe@xanga - Too bad. There are Middle Eastern and American expats in Malaysia and they stay because Malaysia is proven to be a safe haven for both Middle Easterns and Americans who get along well with no one accusing each other of ‘terrorism’.

Honestly, the ‘uncool’ nationality list doesn’t surprise me especially since I live in the EU. I can’t speak for Belgians but Poles and Turks are stereotyped as poor. This is a very euro-centric list. Come to Britain, you should see the hate that legal Polish migrants get here…

I definitly disagree with this poll…….

In my opinion, Canadians are so low on the list because nobody really knows much about Canada (except the stupid stereotypical things) and don’t really care to learn. I personally am glad I am NOT American. I enjoy walking into my doctors office or hospital and not forking out a dime, think you very much. I will admit our taxes are outrageous, but the things we get as a result of those taxes make it worth it, I think.
