Lately, photographing odd acts in odd places has been taking the internet by cyberstorm. New photo fads have been popping up left and right with little chance for the predecessor to cool down (much like Katy Perry’s outfits at the VMA’s. Shazam).
We’ve gone from planking, where one lies down on various odd objects (pictured above), to owling (crouching in high places and looking off into the distance, pensively):
Then to coning (grabbing your ice cream cone the wrong way):
To horsemanning (faked beheading):
Or any combination:
And now we seem to have moved on to batmanning. Yes, a picture in which the person hangs from their feet in the air (sounds incredible tough):
Personally, I think these fads are a tad ridiculous, but I’ll admit that I am guilty of planking on one count.
What do you think of these photo fads? Have you done any of them? Will you do any of them? Is batmanning too extreme?
guest
@heart_leigh@xanga - Right there with you.
Also, batmanning is just asking to get paralyzed or death. All it takes is one person to move the door unexpectedly or slip.
guest
i think its hilarious. call me juvenile =)
guest
Eh, probably not something I would do (unless partaking of adult beverages, ahem), but I don’t see anything wrong with it. It’s peaceful and doesn’t hurt anyone. Plank (..cone, owl, horseman, batman) on, folks.
guest
Am I the only one who finds all this incredibly juvenile?
guest
HAHAHA Anyone else notice the look on the guys face on the coning picture? lol
guest
I’m positive this is only popular with males ages 12-30.
guest
LOL. I have to find something to batman on now

I think the fake beheading one is pretty creative, actually. Otherwise, they’re all stupid fads. The guy in the background of the coning photo is hilarious though.

No I’m too old for this teenage bullshit.

Um what’s the point?
guest
This batmanning is dangerous as hell. You can easily break your neck and die instantly.
guest
oh wow…that’s a really good horsemanning one.
sunflower / 332 posts
@heart_leigh@xanga - Nope you’re not. Although, I have seen a few of these that are ingenious/hilarious.
sunflower / 332 posts
@xhalesx@revelife - there is no point. it’s just s fad.. somethin’ to do.
sunflower / 332 posts
@JEDIJESSICUH@xanga - I KNOW! I LOL’D so hard when I found that picture!
guest
I’ve never heard of any of these until just now.
guest
I refuse to plank because of what the origin of it is (imitating men and women on slave ships as a joke) but I have been guilty of owling because of my Harry Potter fandom and koalaing because of love for the animal. (x

I actually like these, but only if they’re done really creatively. I don’t think it’s entertaining at all to look at a picture of someone planking on their coffee table or countertop. I do, however, find it hilarious to see people who have done it on escalators, cash registers, or other random places. Those are a little more funny. Otherwise, yeah, these are getting old.

@not_your_concern@xanga - Agreed!
sunflower / 327 posts
Jeez, batmanning is fucking dangerous. At least planking was a bit more fun. Hey, you can look dead. Woahhhhh.
rose / 917 posts
just wow..
guest
Never done any of the above, mainly because I hate having my photo taken in any way. And because i don’t follow stupid trends.
guest
@not_your_concern@xanga - Doing any of these is the opposite of creativity, because they’re just following a trend. LOL. Down with trends, up with creativity!

Oh come on kids, grow up.

@chadwilly@xanga - She was referring to the way that it’s done, not actually doing it. And although I do agree with you that it’s just a fad, it can be done in a somewhat creative way…
It still doesn’t make sense why people would do this though…
guest
I think planking, coning, and owling are pretty stupid just because they seem pretty simple concepts that any idiot can do. Horsemanning and Batmanning seem kinda funny but I’m sure it’s going to get old quick.
daffodil / 1525 posts
I think they’re funny, I don’t really see why people keep calling it super immature or anything. Never saw owling before this, pretty hilarious concept to me.
guest
What’s next?
guest
this is all, retarded
rose / 791 posts
@annamariuhh@xanga - because it’s pointless, not to mention extremely dangerous. If someone fell “batmanning” they’d break their neck and die.
guest
@xhalesx@revelife - I understand what you’re saying. Oh well, I don’t care what idiot things people do with their cameras, I’ll let ‘em be.
guest
This is definatly the first time I’ve heard about any of these… Some are pretty creative, but lol, why do it? Looks scary.
guest
@chadwilly@xanga - Then is anything really creative? What could be more creative than taking some trendy shit and turning it into something different than the norm?
I don’t even keep track of trendy things. I like what I like, and if everyone else likes it also, that’s fine. If not, that’s okay too.

@heart_leigh@xanga - You’re not.
magnolia / 1369 posts
I wouldn’t do it but I like looking at the pics. What was that one fad where you jump into a pool casually?
guest
Yep, they’re the latest memes. A year from now they’ll be…year-old memes. Who cares? Let people have their innocent fun, I say!
guest
@blackspiders@xanga - I don’t know if anything is creative any more, maybe some things are
I’ll tell them to take it to the next level by throwing themselves out of a plane and taking photo’s of their untimely impending demises, that’d be different and creative.
magnolia / 1066 posts
oh my god when will this ridiculous shit stoppppppp.
guest
@blackspiders@xanga - I don’t hate all trends… I like Harry Potter
I don’t think that’s a stupid trend, though my bf would disagree, lol.
guest
This is just getting dumb, and frankly, dangerous. I really didn’t say much when it came to planking because it would be completely harmless. Same with owling and coning (though what a mess). Now this “Batmanning” is just stupid. I put it on there with the choking game.
guest
I feel like drop kicking anyone in the face who remotely does any of these things near me
I love the internet for many a reason, but the fact that it has the made a huge chunk of the global population spend their days into out-”cooling” each other a la HS is complete bull and annoying as hell.
guest
I DID IT!!!!!!!! omg it was kind of hard especially because i have to do a handstand on a chair to get my feet to reach the door top. http://twitter.com/#!/b_luxx/status/109000462753202176/photo/1 follow me on twitter if you have it to
I’m going to try more batmanning
guest
Ladies, if this attracts you, please enlighten me as to why. I’ll be sure to abandon ever acting like a mature individual for the rest of my life.
guest
I wouldn’t count the decapitation one in these…. I mean, you can’t do that one just anywhere, and you need someone else to help, and it actually is pretty funny hahaha
the others are just doing the same weird pose in various places…
guest
I’ve only heard of planking, actually. Never done it or known about anyone that I know doing it. I’m okay with that.
guest
I’m 23 (and a female) and I find a lot of these hilarious. Planking was really funny for me in the beginning and got kind of old, but I still like the pictures if it was something hard to do and/or very public. Owling never really interested me, but the combo of planking and owling makes me laugh. Coning is hilarious, sorry, call me immature. I’ve never seen horsemanning until this post though (must not have caught on with the cheezburger sites). Batmanning looks a bit to dangerous… Try something else.
I thing the “photo/video fads” can be pretty damn funny. I like looking at them after a long, hard day of laborious work – it’s a quick way to lighten up and smile a little.
guest
Never done ANY of these but I love them with a passion.
