I was doing some gratuitous shoe shopping important blog research on Zappos last night when I started browsing through their new clothing section (who could forget the ads for it?). I was half-paying attention when I noticed a link where you could “shop by personality.”
Personality? Yes! I was scrolling through, hoping they had a section for “warm-hearted yet cynical,” when I saw something even more interesting: “hipster.” Yes, hipster is apparently a personality–so is “fashionista,” “outdoor style,” and “gal-on-the-go,” BTW– and here’s how Zappos wants you crazy hipster kids to dress.
Fleece cargo pants? I doubt those have ever grazed a calf in Williamsburg!
What do you think of Zappos’ hipster wardrobe? You can view the full set here.

They should have just taken photos of a UO window. I drove by one last night and I thought I was looking at goodwill mannequins.

Warm-hearted yet cynical. If someone created this clothing line, I’d be all over it.

I drooled on my keyboard. Then I woke up.

I dunno, that doesn’t really look like “hipster” to me. It looks like casual chic with some boots thrown in. If they included oversized glasses, fedoras, boat shoes, and a cut-up Super Mario t-shirt, then I can see this style being “hipster.” And I agree with the above commenter, the models are way too beach babe and smiley. “Hipsters” are supposed to look like they haven’t showered in three days, and wear minimal makeup. Maybe a pouty red lip. Perhaps I just have a certain idea as to what a “hipster” is.

I like.

I don’t even understand what a hipster is. I must be old.

This doesn’t look hipster at all. I like it but it’s not hipster. Hipster is more like the old-man cardigans, skinny jeans, and loose-fitting winter caps. Leather jackets. Ironic without trying to be ironic basically.

@fire_drill_09@xanga - hahaha that’s exactly what I was thinking! Hipsters aren’t that happy
They also don’t look that clean and put together.

Silly Zappos, that’s not hipster

… Is it bad I would totally dress like all of those outfits?

I can’t say whether or not it’s really hipster because the word is taken out of context so much lately that it barely means anything now.

Not what I think of when I hear Hipster….

so hideous that it is suppose to be hip, hence “hipster”
some cute japanese schoolgirls might make this style clash work but these chicks look old, so it depends on who is wearing it. it is like the less appealing homeless/hobo chic american version of the japanese harajuku street fashion.
