I’m sure most women have either shaved their legs, waxed, or maybe even both. What I want to know is, which method is more effective?
I usually shave every other day, but then by the next day my legs are stubbly. I can’t stand the stubbly feeling, so I decided to wax my legs so I’d have smooth legs for longer. (Or maybe I should just start shaving every day).
I bought a waxing kit at Wal-Mart and the directions say your leg hair has to be at least 2-5 mm for it to be effective. Now, I haven’t shaved since last weekend, so I admit, my legs are pretty hairy right now. My hair is longer than stubble, but not quite 2 mm. (Unless I’m measuring them wrong. I do tend to suck at measuring). My problem is, I hate being so hairy and waiting for the hair to grow long enough! I’ve come close to just giving up and shaving everything off.
I mean, what’s the point of waxing your legs, if you’re just going to have to wait so long for the hair to get long again? I mean, yeah, it’s nice to have super smooth legs for a long time and not have to shave for a while, but then doesn’t it defeat the purpose when you have to wait a couple weeks and be all hairy again? I’ve been wearing jeans to work instead of capris or shorts, and that is NOT cool in this 90 degree plus weather. (Pun intended). I also bought a hair removal cream at Wal-Mart to see if that works, though I am somewhat skeptical of a cream that removes hair.
I’ve heard that waxed legs are smooth for about 4 weeks, and then they need to be waxed again. In 4 weeks, will the leg hair be long enough to wax, or do you need to wait again? And after waxing, how long are the legs smooth before the hair grows back?
What do you Lovelies think? For those of you have waxed, do you like it? Would you recommend it? Or would you go back to shaving? What are some pros and cons of both?

Shaving doesn’t put a ‘dent’ in my routine and I do it every two days for my legs and bikini and obviously armpits every day… I would try waxing, but I am not fond of the ‘stubbly’ feeling when you’re just trying to get it smooth.

I don’t understand why women just can’t be born hairless. Shaving/waxing/tweezing and everything in between is just one big headache!
I never waxed before, so I can’t really help you with that. For some reason I just think shaving is faster and easier.

I just shave. I’m totally used to it by now.

If it’s anything like a bikini wax, it gets slightly stubbly after about a week, maybe a little longer, but the stubble isn’t as prickly as it is after shaving. I shave my legs because they aren’t too sensitive, so I can shave every other day and keep them smooth. I get bikini waxes because that skin is really sensitive after shaving but not so much after waxing. It also keeps it smooth for a little while, and when it does start to grow back, like I said, it’s softer than after shaving. It also grows back MUCH thinner each time. There are pros and cons to both, and it really depends on which factors are most important to you.

I wax when I have the luxury of time to let the hair grow out, but I shave my legs when I don’t. I use an epilator my underarms and I only have to do that every week and a half or so. I have thick, dark hair, and I’ve tried hair removal creams, and they don’t really work for me. I’ll leave the cream on past the recommended time, but most of my leg hair will still there.

I don’t like waxing, shaving, or using hair removal creams. I used an epilator for about 3 years, then I got laser hair removal done. Painful, and not worth it at all. The hair grew back in a month or two after spending about $3000. Back to the epilator now.

@NKICRT3R@xanga - Epilators rule!
Seriously get one, they’re the best investment ever. They pay themselves of in over a year and are much better for the environment since you’re not creating all that waste. With shaving your hair grows back prickly and fast and with waxing you have to wait to long and it’s often messy and inconvenient. You don’t really have any of these problems with an epilator

i use an epilator for my legs and I shave the rest.

EPILATORS. Best of both worlds.

@xxGetWellSoonxx@xanga - And I can’t understand why women fall prey to the media and corporations that tell us we SHOULD be hairless.

i figured out the best way for me to shave my legs… exfoliate with an olive oil and sugar scrub, then shave with baby oil. because of this, i can shave every day with minimal irritation. aloe vera gel also works wonders.
@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - @PerfectionWantedx@xanga - @stuipdthing@xanga - @NKICRT3R@xanga -
i was under the impression that epilators are basically mechanical tweezers. doesn’t that hurt?

@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - If a company can convince a woman that their product will give her an edge over the other ladies, you bet your sexy ass she’ll buy it, no matter how crazy it is.
guest
@too_pretty_to_die@xanga - Only the first few times… and believe me, the pain’s nothing compared to laser, haha.
guest
@NKICRT3R@xanga - hmmmm i might give it a try then. any epilator you recommend??
guest
i have the same idea about waxing. epilating is similiar in my expirience…you cannot epilate every day when the hairs are barely a milimeter long. I simply shave them with shavig gel, they are always smooth aftrwards and I can do it whenevr I want.

@too_pretty_to_die@xanga - Braun 5180, 5280, or 5270. The 5270 is $100+ at a lot of places, so I’d go with the 5180, which is half the price but works just as well. The 5280 is about $70; however, I haven’t tried that one myself. They all vary slightly in certain features, so I’d just check each of them out and see which you like best.

In the end to each their own but when it comes to my legs I prefer shaving because I get more ingrown hairs when I wax.
However when it comes to my private areas I prefer to wax because of how long it stays smooth (I think it’s one of the most difficult areas to shave perfectly) and I just don’t seem to have the same ingrown hair problems there than in my legs.

isn’t there air conditioner where you work or do you work outdoors? I just shave, but I don’t have that much hair on my legs to begin with.

Veet. Hair removal cream. Dunno why you dont love it.

I’ve never shaved or waxed my legs before… guess I’m lucky in that sense : P. But for underarms, I use veet’s hair removal cream.

@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - Ikr?! Like who even started that? Because, back in the olden days they didn’t have shavers or wax! lol

@too_pretty_to_die@xanga – If you’re used to waxing, epilating is easy. It depends on the area. On my arms it used to hurt like a mofo but now I don’t feel it, same with my legs. Plus having to do it once every month or even more makes it all worth it.

Some days I don’t have the patience for either. I don’t have a girl/boyfriend, I don’t really feel the need to be touchable …

what is this epilate i am hearing of. I nair my armpits and shave my legs
guest
I just shave…not even for myself most of the time but for a guy. I remember dating this guy who rather I just grow it out than have to touch my stubble haha. I am not huge on waxing, I get it done to my eyebrows once in awhile. This epilator thing people are mentioning sounds tempting but really painful. >.<
@xxGetWellSoonxx@xanga - Her comment and your reply got me curious about I looked it up. We can basically blame the ancient Greeks, Egyptians, and Middle Easterners for it. Apparently they would use sugaring (basically waxing) and then also tools where they pretty much scrapped off the hair (yeah, yikes).
All the info I got from here, so judge on your own if you consider it a legitimate source: http://historyundressed.blogspot.com/2008/03/ladies-have-you-ever-forgotten-to-shave.html

I just epilate, it’s not that bad.
magnolia / 1357 posts
I used the creams… I really don’t know what they’re called in English. I’d use them once every two weeks and it would all be soft and nice. Granted, they smell fucking bad, but it’s only until you shower.
Now I do laser… I’m done with my armpits, my lower legs and most of my bikini area (now I’m getting closer to the labia, but that hurts like a bitch!). I think it the effectiveness of the laser depends a lot on how old you are/where you get lasered. I’m glad my parents are paying for it now. Eventually, I’ll stop worrying about hair growing in unwanted places.

@too_pretty_to_die@xanga - The first time it hurts a bit. But you get used to it really quickly. It barely huts afterwards. To be honest, it doesn’t hurt that much the first time either. I epilate while watching Dr. Who and I’m like “hum de dum whatever.” You barely feel it, it’s actually kind of fun (or maybe I’m weird)
daisy / 693 posts
@deemure@xanga - It’s basically electric tweezers. Though, it hurts a lot less. It’s hard to explain if you’ve never seen it. I recommend it to everyone. It’s a good investment.
This is the one I use

@stuipdthing@xanga - oh wow it’s weird that this is the first time I’m ever hearing of something like this haha. So how long do it normally take you to do your legs? I think it would be a good investment for me because I have PCOS so I have a lot of hair on my body. Shaving everyday/every other day is a pain in the ass. And even worst I have a hair on my face so this has lead to some unattractive bumps
daisy / 693 posts
@deemure@xanga - Ya I’m pretty hairy too. I also have some on my stomach and I do not want to shave their. It takes me maybe ten mins for one leg. More time than shaving but less than waxing. It lasts a while. You don’t have to wait for hair to grow back like you do with waxing cause it gets the small pricklies too
guest
@stuipdthing@xanga - Ten minutes isn’t bad especially if it lasts for a while. And the one you recommended isn’t that expensive either. I’m kinda excited to try one out now. Thanks for the info!

Waxing strips require waiting, but waxing using your fingers/hands
doesn’t. I make wax at home and use it. Either way, using a epilator on the legs is much easier and has almost
the same result as a wax. Takes less time and lasts just as long. I could go
weeks without seeing anything.

I’ve been waxing for awhile now; shaving doesn’t appeal to me because of the thick and fast regrowth.
You’re right though, you do have to wait awhile to let the hair grow back before you wax it again; but in my experience, after a couple waxes my hair has gotten really thin, sparse, and almost invisible, so my need to wax gets less and less each time!
guest
i nair my legs. I then get brazilian waxes. tweeze my eyebrows.

Sugaring is a great alternative to waxing. Same general concept (removing the hair by the root), but it does it IN the direction of hair growth, as opposed to against it. Much less painful.
Removing the hair from the follicle means 99% hair free for 4-6 weeks. BUT you always have hairs that are at different stages of growth. Some are just below the surface waiting to reveal themselves, some are just being born. Others are fully grown and are taken out upon waxing/sugaring.
When the hair grows back from shaving, the middle of the shaft of hair is what pushes out. It’s already thick and dark because the hair is developed. This gives the illusion of hair growing in thicker after shaving.
When hair grows back from waxing/sugaring, it is a new hair, with a tapered end. This means the hair appears finer, softer. It doesn’t irritate like the thicker, mid-shaft shaved stubble growth.
After sugaring or waxing for a while, your follicles become damaged and stop producing as much hair strands. Some times they stop producing at all. This is the thing that tips the scales for most people.

People say Nair don’t work, but it works for me. I think I’m an alien.
guest
Although I’ve never really shaved, I’ve been waxing for years. From experience, the more you wax over time, the hairs thin out and won’t grow back and look as obvious anymore. I definitely prefer waxing, even with the wait in between. You get it over once a month and the results lasts. Plus, I like that my skin feels softer after waxing.
(be sure to exfoliate waxed areas before and after too!)
guest
I shave once a week, maybe even less and that’s only in the summer when I have to attend school. I leave my legs nice and hairy haha.
Though I don’t really have any leg hair.
guest
Ever since I started shaving I have just shaved every other day and dealt with the stubble on the second day. I tried waxing my legs once, I guess I didn’t let it grow out enough. It didn’t work at all.
I’ve tried Nair a couple times, but I think my skin is too sensitive for it. I got goosebumps from it and all the hair just grew right back lol I even tried to sensitive skin stuff and it did the same thing. Maybe I was doing it wrong.
I have no idea what an epilator is…

I shave right now but that’s because waxing makes me paranoid. I only wax my eyebrows. I used to use Nair and then Veet but it seems that my legs became sensitive to the chemicals when I took a year off from using them and shaved instead (it was taking up too much time to do the chemicals). Now I have to leave it on so long that I risk chemical burns (and once I did find out that chemical burns are no joke). But when I used that regularly I preferred it to shaving. I would do it on Saturday and normally be able to get to Thursday before stubble was noticeable to me and even then the stubble took forever to grow in and become really noticeable. It didn’t work that well for my mom though.
