First Lady Michelle Obama is gracing the cover of July’s Better Homes and Gardens and she’s opening up about healthy eating and being in better shape than her husband.
Michelle, who works to encourage American children to enjoy healthy eating, recently came under media scrutiny for — gasp! — indulging in a burger craving. She also faced similar criticism for serving burgers and hot dogs at a White House Super Bowl party.
It seems that the First Lady is all about moderation going along with healthy eating habits, telling the magazine:
You can’t say to kids, you can never have a cookie — you can never have anything fun. There’s a way to [promote a healthy life] and to do it in a way that is tasty and fun.”
She also admits that it wasn’t always easy for her and her family to stay healthy:
I had two little kids; I was busy… We had take-out at least three times a week. I didn’t realize that these habits were affecting my kids’ health. It was just what I felt I had to do to survive and keep the household going,”
Michelle, who also promotes youth exercise through her Let’s Move program, also jokes about her workout routine:
I always tease [Barack] I’m in better shape than he is. I can do long workouts. He’s the president.”
Yep, with arms like these, we think she can take him.
What do you Lovelies think about what Michelle had to say?

She’s awesome

Yup, I agree. You can have a cookie or a burger once in a while, and it won’t kill you.

I love Michelle Obama
I like how she’s able to admit that she’s just like the rest of us and has had her share of take-out while also promoting not just being all healthy, but that it’s okay to have a bit of junk food moderation, too.

I just love her and what she stands for. She’s really trying to make a difference in young kids’ lives.

whoa look at those guns!!!!!! Ms. Obama sometimes annoys me, because I don’t think it’s the governments business to control how and what people eat. However, I think she sets a healthy and realistic example for the country to follow and I will give her credit.

She is amazing and yes, she ate a burger and is still in great shape!! Once people let go of color they can truly appreciate women like her!

She is one of my role models for buff arms…I’d like my arms to look like that instead of chubby or scrawny. I like that she’s realistic and doesn’t have an “all-or-nothing” attitude toward eating and fitness. The all or nothing mentality kind of sets you up for obsession and/or failure.

I can imagine she is. My dad is a politician and he is always busy doing something, I am sure the President is 1000x more busy. People who criticize her for eating/serving burgers are nitpicking the way they nitpick at all politicians and their wives/families.

I love her
she’s such an inspiration and she seems to be really down-to-earth, too.

I think it’s great that she’s encouraging people to try new healthier options, but also admit that she’s like everyone else, that sometimes she doesn’t make great food choices because of her busy lifestyle. I actually read the article yesterday, I think she’s really realistic about achieving health-related goals by eating well and reminding people to spend quality time with their children by playing together, shopping for fresh produce and cooking it together. She gives me hope that people will embrace and appreciate time spent with your family, instead of being plugged in all day.

She’s trying to promote a healthy lifestyle for our children in a good way. I simply cannot understand people that attack her for it.
You can tell that whoever feels like spotlighting the fact that she ate a burger has no life at all.

I don’t like her. Something about the government telling parents how to manage their households just rubs me the wrong way.

I’d be balling if I had guns like her.

My opinion is mixed on her really. I get what she’s trying to do it..but then again…telling parents what to do does rub me in a weird way.
