Last night, Demi Lovato premiered the music video for her very personal song, Skyscraper. The song, which is currently number one on iTunes is her first single since leaving rehab earlier this year.
The video is followed by a very intimate and revealing interview with Ryan Seacrest.
I love how it’s beautiful, vulnerable, and empowering. You can tell that so much emotion went into this song and the video. I definitely think she made the right decision to step away from acting (for now) and focus on her music. It can be very therapeutic.
I’ll admit that I didn’t used to be a fan of Demi, but I gained so much respect for her when she announced to her fans that she was going to get help for her eating disorder and depression, as well as other issues. She’s now spreading the word to help girls like her, and I think that it’s amazing.
Stay strong, Demi.
What do you think of the video, Lovelies? [via E! Online]

I admire Demi for admitting she has/had a problem. The video though isn’t what I was expecting. The song wasn’t what I was expecting. Not that it’s bad, I haven’t ever disliked anything that she has put out, it’s just different.

@Jessica - I think there’s branch or something stuck in there.

I wish I could handle her voice in this song (most of it hurts my ears). I feel bad because I LOVE the meaning behind the song & I know this is.. very empowering/therapeutic/etc, but I just can’t like it for some reason :/ I feel like an awful person for saying this
But I agree with everything that you said, especially how singing will be good for her.

I read that she recorded the song when her voice was weak (before rehab). And she recently recorded it again, but she went with the verison where her voice sounds weaker because it’s more real. Something along those lines.

I’m with the others who have said the song was kinda meh for them. I LOVE Demi Lovato and despite her being a good 3 years younger than me, I idolize her in many ways. Always have. So actually it was kind of weird for me when I finally heard this song, knowing all that she has just gone through, and I didn’t have a significant reaction. Not to say I necessarily dislike the song, it just doesn’t make me emotional. Having said that, I think the video was really well done
Love Demi and always wishing the best for her x

I like the song. I heard the spanish version and it’s beautiful (though I don’t understand the language all too well). But in the english version, I feel like her voice was too raspy (but she’s known for her raspy-ness, so idk it’s just different in this song) and high. She reached the notes right, but her other songs from the past with high notes had more tone and volume. I think it’s a) the result of her purging—she admitted in her 20/20 interview that she’d lose her voice because of purging or b) she was just so emotionally drained while recording this song—perhaps she cried before singing it. After all, with such powerful lyrics that came from a true experience, it’d be daunting to sing it and share it with the world and your fans. It’s so personal.
Oh gosh Demi, keep it up
