Ever since Katy’s music career began, like all celebrities, she’s been getting a lot of judgement. That’s perfectly understandable, because this is America, and we have the right to our opinions.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d rate Katy’s music (according to MY interests) a 4, and as a performer a 7. Right now, 90% of you are probably disagreeing with me, and you’re probably saying “Katy? WTF? She shouldn’t even passed the zero rating!” Well, I’m about to explain why I give her a 7.

1. She’s got her own style. Whether or not you think it’s the cutest style in the world or the ugliest style in the world, nobody can deny it. She’s a performer, and that’s what performers do; they completely humiliate themselves by wearing awkward and seizure inducing outfits for the sake of art.

2. I hear this from a lot of people: Katy Perry’s music isn’t original, she’s stolen the 80′s and 90′s/Her music is ripped off from the 80′s and 90′s. Uh, hello? I’m pretty sure she isn’t the only one to sample and fuse music from the 80′s and 90′s into her own. Just look at the process it takes to make a rap or hip hop song. They’re nothing but sampled music. It’s a part of the music industry life style. Remakes, remixes, samples, THEY’RE ALL THERE.

3. Some people say, “I can’t stand Katy’s voice.” Why not? It’s melodic, smooth, sure it’s a little high pitched, but what do you expect her to sound like? Bob Seager? And, unlike many people, when she sings live, it actually sounds pretty good (I’ve been to 2 of her concerts). She doesn’t sound like she’s running out of breath or going through puberty while she bounces around on stage; she has the ability to hold notes as long and as high as she does on and off stage. Pretty dang sexy if you ask me.

I understand and realize that many, many, MANY people simply do not like her style of music. I don’t like it, I’m more of the deeper and darker lyrics-music type. I’m not expecting everyone to agree with my reasons, but all I’m saying is pay attention to more than just the sound of her music and her voice when you decide to judge her, or any other artist for that matter. And if you absolutely refuse to give her music even the slightest chance, how are you going to know that she sucks? This happens with far too many artists, like Lady Gaga. Gaga is just one of the weirdest performers and singers I’ve ever seen, and her outfits make no sense whatsoever. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t give her credit for being a true performer. She may be a little socially awkward, but her style is completely different, and yes, original, not to mention, her lyrics are all her own.
