Is your city one of the worst-dressed in America? Unfortunately, mine is. I live a few miles outside of Kansas City, MO, and it was listed at #37 on the GQ Magazine’s list of the 40 worst-dressed cities in America.
The magazine’s reason for ranking my city at #37? Apparently too-pleated khakis, baggy shirts and worn out clothing does not bode well with the fashionable people of GQ. I don’t blame them–as a fashionable gal myself, I’m disappointed in my city. Step it up, KC!
While not all cities are listed online, here are some others that made the unfortunate cut (perhaps your city is on here):
40. Boulder, CO (photo above)
39. Nashville
38. Bristol, CT
36. Portland
35. Raleigh
34. Seattle
33. Asbury Park, NJ
Was your city ranked one of the worst-dressed in America? How fashionable do you consider your city?

downtown is pretty fashionable, actually. I live in Fort Worth

Besides the shoes I don’t see anything wrong with how they’re dressed. Their outfits seem appropriate for the setting.

It probably also has a lot to do with socio-economic status. If the average or higher income people aren’t wearing the designer labels that GQ pushes, the magazine probably ranked them lower. The only way to objectively study and rank this kind of survey would be to compile the amount of sales from designer labels of each city in america into a cumulative summary.

not from America
I’m actually surprised to see Seattle up there

Seattle?! Well geez. I’m offended.

RALEIGH FTW!
This is what was said of us: ”If you’re in Raleigh, your shit better have pleats. It’s basically the town’s mascot. And here’s it’s unofficial motto: “The world is your golf course.” Southern bankers cruise from home to work and back home to change out of their off-the-rack, BOGO suits and into amoeboid polo shirts and hippy trousers. It’s a great city to swoop in for the kill at happy hour. Girls in these bars have never seen a tailored anything, so it’s easy to turn a head.”—Andrew Richdale

Whoo, I go to college in Raleigh! NC, that is!

the slide show only showed 9 cities
where are the rest?
other than the creepy mustache, the guy in the portland example, seems fashionable or normal
I wouldn’t say that he’s the worst dressed. the guy wearing the tie dye tshirt seems like a tourist family, so do they mistakenly count the tourists visiting from other areas and skewed the results by outsiders. my city isn’t on the list.
guest
lol…like how they only showed 33 through 40. -__- I’m willing to bet that San Francisco is up there pretty high though. HIPSTERS EVERYWHERE!

ahhh! really? I live in KC too

omg boulder is a pretty poorly dressed state.

i actually went to the gq site to read this superficial poop. like a few people mentioned, this is so subjective, and ultimately, pointless.

Definitely gotta agree with Asbury, NJ. People dress like bums. I understand that you don’t have to get all fancy if you live near the beach but spice it up a little.

@XoAsianBabioX@xanga - boulder is a city, in case you didn’t know.

It doesn’t show all the cities. I doubt the city I live in is relevant enough.

I live about two-ish hours from Kansas City. I can’t say Manhattan is that great when it comes to style. I miss my fashionable stores back in California. It’s just not the same here.

That picture is in Alberta, Canada! I have an acquaintance there and she posts pictures from that spot all the time. I recognized it right away. I also have a friend who lives in Boulder and Boulder looks nothing like that.

Maybe the people in the picture are from Boulder??

Portland would be on the list. Everyone dresses from thrift stores and so you get mesh of different decades into one outfit then sprinkle it with some hipster or some quirk of Oregon and you get a very individualized look that stands out like a sore thumb if you’re not within the confines of the city of Portland.
To a magazine like GQ who prasies high-end designers who stick to the usual classic men’s wear, experimental style is sacrilegious.

Yeah, probably, though I don’t really know since the slide show didn’t show all 40. But Austin is very casual, and designer brands aren’t that prevalent here, which is what GQ seems to like. Eh… I’m not too worried about it. They don’t seem to dig anything outdoors-y or casual or off-beat, and I’m sure flip flops are a big no-no, so I’m betting Austin is on there towards the top of the list that I can’t see.

i live right by asbury park, nj! lol love it there, and people do dress crazy…

Seriously, Portland creeped me out.
As for the people in the picture, take away the Crocs & they’re fine.

lmfao @ asbury park

I’d say Colorado as a whole is pretty poorly dressed since you can’t see our clothes 9 months of the year….

Lol I live 30 mins away from Bristol CT >_>

I suddenly respect Boulder, CO.

I wish I lived in one of the worst dressed cities in the US, then there would be less pretentious fashion ass holes to judge normal people for wearing what’s comfortable to them
guest
@XoAsianBabioX@xanga - lol, it happens to the best of us

I live about thirty minutes from Newport Beach & I will be moving to San Diego in a few months.

@pfirsich_n_sahne@xanga - The hilariousness of this is that I am from Boulder and am moving to Alberta!! But I’m not poorly dressed, I swear!

Don’t see Miami :S

@TortugaTourGuide@xanga - Yay Fort Worth xangans! <3 I grew up there.

I live about an hour away from San Francisco which I think is alright. People do wear shorts and T-shirts even in the cooler months. We still dress like it’s summer even when the fog is covering the city. Though when the fog lifts and the Golden Gate Bridge shines out, wow it’s beautiful.
guest
@maggodactyl@xanga - haha that
is
funny!!

Mine wasnt even on the list.So I guess not?
