I can remember going to get my ears pierced with my mom and grandmother. I was so excited and loved having the big responsibility of taking care of my new piercings, even if they were just tiny little fake ruby studs from Claires. Since then, I’ve gotten my earlobes pierced again and had my cartilage pierced once on each ear. Each time I get my ears pierced for another time, I worry that my parents will be mad at me but they’re actually OK with it; “just no body piercings, all right?” is what my mom always says.
I’d never even thought of piercing any part of my body, except maybe my nose. Lately, I’d been thinking the body piercing trend was “out,” until I stumbled upon a huge collection of creepy piercing photos.
Apparently piercing random parts of your body is still in style. And I don’t mean places like your eyebrow or bellybutton–I’m talking your back, chest and hipbones, neck, etc. I can’t even imagine what my horrified face looked like as I scrolled through photos of so many outrageous piercings.
I’m all for doing whatever you want with your body and that includes tattoos, hair color, piercings, etc. But I honestly just don’t see what the appeal is for some of these piercings.
Lovelies, what do you think of this body piercing trend?
guest
Ehh most piercings look trashy to me. Same with tattoos. A lot of them seem distasteful to me and you’ll have to take them out for jobs eventually/struggle with hiding them. The same with gages. I just don’t get it. Don’t people WANT a high paying job?
guest
I think it’s pretty gross, but eventually it will be accepted.
guest
hip bone piercings have actually been being done longer than belly button piercings. And corset piercings are actually quite common as temporary piercings.
guest
@sugarandlemonade@xanga - depends on the high paying job. A lot of piercings have become acceptable. I have gauges, but they’re so small that they never get in the way of me getting work. And a lot of people have tattoos that no employer would even know that they had. I don’t see how that is trashy.
guest
It’s not that weird, and it’s not a new trend. People have done this for ages. A friend of mine has two tiny clavicle studs, and I know people with multiple ear piercings (tragus, stuff like that), nose piercings, and on and on.
Why do people make it seem like it’s so weird to do what you want with your own body? Just don’t fucking look at it.
Sorry for the pissy tone, but this post came up during a horrible mood, so.
guest
Gauges freak me out. Small ones aren’t bad, but the big ones scare me. Lol I think the hip piercings are cute. So were the ones on the lower back that you posted a picture of. My friend got her cheeks (on her face.. haha) pierced. It was cute, but a pain in the ass for her. I’m not a fan of piercings for myself.
guest
@Ms_Lola_Mae@xanga - Most professional places don’t approve of them. Doctors aren’t allowed to have them. A good lawyer wouldn’t have them. Yeah, most jobs and professional places don’t approve. I just don’t like them and they look trashy to me. It’s a personal preference
guest
first piercing pic is the trypophobia-fear of clusters and holes:O it looks like mini bullet wounds. I have an urge to pluck that piercing out with a pair of tongs.
guest
I have a microdermal on my wrist. It is not creepy or weird. Everyone loves it. Everyone thinks its cute. The picture you show here looks like the microdermal on the right is rejecting or was just done.
I got mine with two of my best friends. One has hers in between her breasts, right above her cleavage. I thought it would look slutty but honestly people don’t really notice it. My other friend got it to compliment her tattoo, which is the standard bass clef/treble clef heart with the piercing in the middle of one side of the heart.
They really aren’t trashy if done with taste and not overdone. Too many piercings tattoos can look bad, but just a few really can look nice, if you aren’t a judgemental person. Plus, the ones that get tattoos/piercings on their neck/face/hands don’t usually aspire to being business people, unless the business is running a tattoo/piercing shop. There is nothing wrong with that. Everyone I know that has gotten body art has taken their career into consideration and get them in a place that can be covered up.
guest
@sugarandlemonade@xanga - But I’m saying that most tattoos and a lot of piercings are in places that no one would ever know. I know a lot of doctors and lawyers and you’d be surprised how many have tattoos and “private” piercings. It doesn’t get in the way of them having high-paying jobs because nobody sees them.
guest
@Ms_Lola_Mae@xanga - Yes but they’re still trashy to me. I really dont’ like them and it’s a personal preference. So what?
guest
@fearless_smiles@xanga - I have to admit that the really big ones freak me out, but mostly because I know how much of a pain in the ass they can be to clean and how much they can smell.
guest
first one not so bad, second-down right scary!
guest
@sugarandlemonade@xanga - I’m not commenting on the fact that you don’t like them. I’m commenting on the fact that in your first comment you suggested that having tattoos and/or piercings could get in the way of having a high paying job and my point is that people don’t necessarily see them and therefore that isn’t true.
guest
@sassypenguin@xanga - agreed.
guest
@sugarandlemonade@xanga - Sure, doctors aren’t allowed to have extreme facial piercings or gauges, but you’d never guess what’s under that lab coat

Not a big fan of anything pierced except the ears and nose :/
It just seems painful, for one. Even if it’s not, with some of them, you’d have to take care not to have them snag against your clothes or other objects. It seems like such a hassle for something that in my opinion, doesn’t look good.
But, everyone thinks differently, so if you’re willing to go through that and it fits your lifestyle, go for it!

I think it depends a lot on the way you carry yourself and present yourself outwardly.
as long as there is symmetry and they are tastefully done/placed. I cant see what is ugly about it.
plus if I don’t feel like seeing it or wearing it around I can wear a special kind of jewelry that allows me to hide it completely. If you have stretched ears there are gauges you can wear that look more like earrings than gauges. . .ear piercings are ear piercings though it doesn’t matter what gauge the backing of it is. . .research more than just pictures and images before you draw a conclusion.
For example; I got my septum pierced, so I took out my lip piercing. . .it just looked awkward and I liked my septum more
If I were to keep that piercing i would have felt it neccecary to get another lip piercing opposite of the one I already had (to create symmetry) however that isn’t my aesthetic and i felt that if I were to have 3 facial piercings it would stop looking attractive and start looking tacky.
however if you just have a crap ton of unconcealable randomly placed body jewelry all over yourself it just looks like an ugly hot mess. There is a difference between enhancing or complimenting your body/face and just getting body piercings to get piercings. besides they aren’t permanent! and what scars you may get should be taken into consideration before hand. You’d never know I had my lip done unless I pointed it out and even then you’d probably have to squint to see it lol.
Yesterday I showed my coworker for the first time my septum piercing, she never knew I had one and she was horrified and yet she has had her belly button pierced for 3yrs.
people have one track minds.

@sugarandlemonade@xanga - having a ring through your ear doesn’t morph you into a ‘trashy’ person or knock down your IQ. A surgeon wouldn’t be any less capable of saving someones life if he had a prince albert. I usually associate someone who is trashy with having a one track mind. just sayin’
your entitled to your opinion though.

i have a permanent version of the second picture down. yup, i’ve got 20 of those real “creepy” piercings displayed in photo-number-one in my back, in the pattern of photo-number-two. i suppose i am the epitome of that which freaks you out.
it is OK that you don’t see the appeal – we are all entitled to our own views. like you said, you support people doing whatever floats their boat, and if you don’t get it… well, that’s that. but you also said that people are getting “random” parts of their body pierced.
here is my question: what makes a back any more “random” for piercing than your ear? nothing, except that we have been piercing ears a lot longer and think of them as tame or OK piercings to have.
to those of us with these ”freaky” and ”random” piercings, believe me, our piercings are far from random to us – regardless of if they are aesthetic, meaningful or spiritual adornments, there is usually thought given to them and why they are EXACTLY where they are there!
i love the look of my corset piercing. i have an hourglass shape that i am learning to see for its beauty and i love the way the studs accent it when worn plain, and to me when it is ribboned i find two things in it. 1) i think it just beautiful, plain and simple! 2) the corset piercing is symbolic; instead of ribboning myself up into a corset (my eating disorder of 9 years) to cinch myself into a shape that is “perfect” by societys standard, it says that the skin underneath it is the perfect, beautiful shape – the shape my body is healthy at.
so while it is a freaky and ugly piercing to you, it is lovely to me. could i have made that statement about loving my body to myself without 20 needles and 20 pieces of metal in my back? sure! but plenty of people get tattoos for the same symbolic reason; they also buy new wardrobes, set out on journeys to the tops of mountains, lock themselves up in a monastary, etc. to reaffirm these truths to themselves. there are a thousand million ways to go about any one task, and this is just one of the many ways that i approached this for myself.
so the next time you see something – be it a piercing, an article of clothing, or maybe even a behavior – try to push past your initial reaction of “gross, that does NOT look good to me” and maybe see that there is always more to it than meets the eye, even if YOU can not see the appeal of it! (;
edit; sheesh, my lil’ rant is a blog post all of its own, LOL.
guest
piercings are not weird or a trend, a lot of indigenous people have practised it for years.
and pushing a needle through skin doesn’t mean you’re trashy, a little jewellery won’t change who you are as a person!

@sugarandlemonade@xanga - Soooo…piercings can’t be removed or anything? Ohhh my god! You mean I can’t take these earrings out of my ears ever?! I’ll never get a job!
Sorry but last I checked you can take your piercings out or cover a tattoo for a job interview. And many people I know with professional positions wear earrings. I’m sorry but you make yourself sound ridiculous with your comment.

I like them better when they look balanced out on the person-if that makes any sense. When they literally just have shit all over them then I have a really hard time seeing their natural beauty and that personally turns me off. I like it when girls have a bunch of piercings all the way along their ears though, that’s hot
guest
@kirarinangelicpretty@xanga - I like how you keep bringing up symetry. I have two ear piericings on my right ear and one on my left but I also have a nose ring on the left. Does that balance it out?
guest
@kirarinangelicpretty@xanga - agreed. I have my septum pierced and people are always surprised when they see it.
If your piercings/tattoos are done nicely, I don’t see any problems with them. I have my septum and nostril done, and people are always surprised that, even though my septum is an “unconventional piercing,” it’s not the first thing they notice about me, because I don’t bring attention to it. Of course I push it up to seem more professional, but I’m still the same person regardless of whether it’s in my nose or hanging down. It’s silly. I can’t wait for the day where the people with the wildest tattoos (sleeves, etc.) are defending you/saving your life.
guest
I have eight piercings in my ears and my belly button pierced. I don’t know if I want anymore but I’m happy with what I have. My parents always said they didn’t want me to get anything more than two holes in each earlobe done (I currently have three in each earlobe and two in my right cartilage) – but they love them now. They say they suit me and I only wear tiny hoops or studs in my ears. As for my belly, it’s hidden unless I’m in a bikini or in my underwear around my boyfriend, who loves it.
guest
A girl from my high school got the corset lace up back piercing. It was hot on her. Don’t know how many people can pull it off.
I’ve long pined for snakebite piercings. Alas, I’ve got a crapton of scar tissue in my lower lip from biting through it as a child, so I don’t think it would work, or at least would be horrifically ouch. I don’t really want any others (though I think the cheek piercings are cute).
guest
You are so late to the party- corset piercings have been around for awhile now. And why are things always “weird” and “creepy” just because they’re different? If you ask me, that’s the most “bizarre” trend.
guest
i took a lot of forensic science and anthropology classes at my university, personally i really dont care for any of these. im in the army, i think most body piercings, implants, and microdermals are all distasteful. but we are in an age of heavy individualism and self expression, go for it. i dont care for them, but its not my body. that being said, self modification is a huge way to help identify bodies. i’m not even joking. when someone gets a tattoo or piercing they often brag to friends and show their peircings off, and even if people dont know their names, people recognize, label, and can identify individuals based on piercings.
i mean really, whats better “did you see the chick with brown hair”or “did you see the chick with a tweety bird tattoo and a triple nose piercing”
sunflower / 453 posts
honestly I think the grossest thing here is that you went to Claire’s to get your ears pierced! Not to say you’re gross, but that is the place I would recommend you absolutely never go to for that. I have heard so many horror stories about it… I don’t even see how it’s possible to mess up ear piercings but they manage it quite often!
Anyhow, I like some alternative piercings. Others, I don’t, but that’s cool, because there are a lot of looks in this world I don’t really like and it’s whatever. It always makes me really happy though when I see weird piercings and tattoos on people I would identify as having a very “professional” job. I appreciate people who defy that old line about how you can’t get a decent job if you have such and such on your body.
sunflower / 416 posts
Lol I don’t find these weird at all. The reason that so many people like the idea of dermals and unconventional body piercings is because it’s more unique than say, a nose piercing or lip piercing. Not to mention that they are much easier to hide and therefore you can still wear them while having a professional job. As for me, the only piercing I’ve had apart from my ears has been my nose, and I just recently took it out for good. I just kind of got sick of there being a distraction on my face. Anyway, I’ve been wanting to get dermals in my collarbones, but I don’t know if I’ll actually do it. I do worry about the stigma that surrounds piercings when it comes to holding a job, but you can get them far enough down on your collarbones to where they don’t normally show up. I guess I’ll do some more thinking and decide at a later date (when I have money, at least… piercings are expensive O_O).
I don’t really understand why it’s such a big deal to see people with piercings… it’s one thing to be a little freaked by someone who’s covered head to toe in piercings, but things like dermals and corsets aren’t uncommon and aren’t indicative of any specific personality trait. You might think someone is crazy for doing that to their body, but in the end, it’s not your body. It’s theirs. We, as the rest of the world, cannot do anything about it. And I wouldn’t want to do anything about it. I’m more frightened of people in stuffy preppy clothes than I am of pierced/tattooed individuals. Heh.

@kirarinangelicpretty@xanga - people never notice my septum either till i show them and one guy told me it made me look like a whore.
@kirarinangelicpretty@xanga - totally agree
guest
@sugarandlemonade@xanga - Contrarily, in a higher-end salon, which is a high-paying job, you are allowed to have piercings and tattoos to an extent. Tattoos just can’t be on your neck or face, and piercings are limited to one facial (though you can put retainers in any excess holes).
Personally, I have a high-paying job lined up, and I have a vertical labret in my lip, a nostril piercing, and two tongue rings. I have to hide the nostril, but that’s about it.
Your suggestion of not being able to get a high-paying job with piercings or tattoos is, in my opinion, a little ignorant. Maybe you can’t work a cubicle job with a lip ring. Maybe a doctor can’t have a facial piercing or a bunch of tattoos. But there are also many professions that pay plenty and will allow you to have personal freedom with what you do to your body.
guest
Generally piercings are alright if not overdone, I think the top picture is cute. The corset piercings are just temporary though, and they don’t keep the strings in all the time because if it gets caught on something it’ll rip the ring out, which isn’t good.
I personally like both tattooed and non-tattooed looks on different people, but the one thing I dislike for the most part are chest tattoos. It doesn’t mean I’m going to not hire someone because I dislike an area they got tattooed, and I think it’s really silly of some people to be offended or bothered by someone in a workplace with tattoos and piercings.
I think a few comments are spot on when they say generally people who go over the top with the tattoos and piercings don’t usually aspire to be stuffy business men and women in office jobs. They typically go for a more artsy scene, in which case their body decor could even help them earn a job.

I’m currently gauging my ears; which some people find horrific, but it’s really not if you don’t go too big, and it doesn’t always have an impact on employers if you have tasteful gauges.
+ I was my clavicle pierced, and angel bites.
guest
I’ve always loved corset piercings, but I could never do it. For a while I wanted to get my collarbones pierced, but I just couldn’t justify the expense/time I would have to put into it only to have it reject in a few years, since surface piercings nearly always do reject. I am hoping to get my lip pierced this summer though – snake bites if I can take the pain, but if not then just 1 side for now and the other in a little bit. I also have my ears stretched to a size 6 gauge, have second holes (normal sized), an auricle piercing (cartilage about halfway down the ear) in my left, and an industrial bar across my right cartilage.
@sugarandlemonade@xanga – If you can’t spell “gauge” properly, I’m inclined to think that you don’t really know what you’re talking about. Also, I think that I, with my piercings, would be more likely to get a high paying job than someone who can’t spell. Its fine to have your own opinions. By all means, if you think I look trashy you are entitled to that. However, implying that I won’t be able to get a decent job crosses a line. Unless you are my potential employer with my resume and application in your hand, you cannot judge whether or not my abilities and merits outweigh the fact that my ears have a few extra holes.
guest
Corset piercings look like perfection if done right, but they’re short-lived unless you want travel scars, and all surface piercings have a chance of being rejected by the body which can lead to even worse scarring. They have a tendency to shift and slide in the skin over periods of time and leave long streaks of scar tissue.
I realize beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I think any piercing or tattoo (if done correctly and with good/self-assured intentions) is beautiful and attractive. It’s an expression of the body’s owner and should be worshiped as much as their “natural” features when it comes to respecting and appreciating another person’s body.
guest
@sugarandlemonade@xanga - There are plenty of high-paying, respectable jobs that allow piercings and tattoos. It’s just that most people don’t want to believe this because they have preconceived prejudices against people who are up for free expression.

I just found out that my bf’s little sister use to have her chest, by her collarbone, pierced. I don’t really get the random body piercings but to each their own. I will say the corset one is kind of cool, but I’d never do it myself. But it’s their bodies so who really cares?
I’ll stick to my nose and bellybutton piercings. I keep thinking about doing some out of the ordinary ear piercing, but they are all farily ordinary these days.

I hate body piercings, they just make you look unprofessional, and you’re going to have to get rid of them eventually anyway.

There are some piercings that I just don’t understand why you’d subject yourself to them. Gential piercings and gauges top that list. But as you said–whatever floats your boat, man. Your gauges aren’t attacking me or calling me names so it’s not like I’m going to get all offended or anything.

@H2O_mElOnGeEk@xanga - how is it unprofessional when most body piercings are covered up anyway?
guest
In my opinion, there is no difference in piercing the flesh on your ears than piercing any other flesh on your body.
It’s just a matter of conformity.
People have been used to ear piercings forever and don’t question them.
Just like with your ears, body piercings are (mostly) for decoration.
And whatever one finds pretty is completely subjective.

@catastrophic_surveys@xanga - Well obviously covered ones don’t really matter, but if it’s not covered and two people go into a job interview one with uncovered piercings and one without, who is more likely to get the job? It’s the same with unnatural hair colors.

I am all for body piercings or whatever. I only have six piercings right now, my ears double pieced, my cartilage and belly button. But want to get my nose pierced and my hips pierced. The only thing is that hip piercings are surface piercing so they are really hard to maintain as pants are constantly rubbing against them, plus they’re a surface piercing. But anyways, I think piercings are fine. You can always take them out and normally all is well.At the end of the day it’s not your body so oh well..
By the way, corset piercings are only ever done as a temporary thing, like for photo shoots. They would never be able to heal properly if kept in.

@sassypenguin@xanga - whaaat! do they do cartilage piercings with the gun?? I hope not… because that is not what it is intended for… you can shatter the cartilage!
but yeah… in HS one of my friends had a weird bump that was painful and she went back to Claire’s and asked and they told her it was just scar tissue… a while later she went to the dentist (or doctor?) and they took an ex ray of her head and it turns out she had the back of an earring in her ear… it had apparently migrated in while she was sleeping and then got covered over and she needed surgery to remove it!
Idk how much of that was claire’s fault but still, they shouldn’t be randomly diagnosing scar tissue if they don’t know!
guest
@ScarletMoth@xanga - sorry to butt in, but how do you not notice that an earring back is in your ear?
@H2O_mElOnGeEk@xanga - I guess it depends on the piercing. Some are more “socially acceptable” than others – the same with hair colours. As in, someone with dyed red hair would probably be more “accepted” than someone with green hair, for example.

In response to one commenter…Yeah, I do want a high paying job. And yeah, I have a huge wrist tattoo and I’m getting one behind my ear in a few weeks…and I’m in medical school with no current issues surrounding everyone knowing I have a tattoo..I love corset body piercing..I’d totally do it if I weren’t a sissy!

@sugarandlemonade@xanga - Honey, you speak the truth! Certain tats and piercings are okay, but there’s a limit. Especially, if you are looking forward to working in the professional world. Those are the highest paying jobs! I have some, but I can easily cover them because if I want to be a doctor, I have to look professional.
Also, how do you take out those skin piercings?????????
guest
@sugarandlemonade@xanga - Nah, trashy isn’t really defined by how many or what kind of piercings you have. Closed mindedness and ignorance make a person trashy, though.
I know a guy who works at city hall, and he has several piercings. His ears are stretched to a fairly large size, and he has a tattoo on his neck, in between the collar bones but higher up a bit. He also has two partially done sleeves on his arms. He manages to cover this up with a nice, long-sleeved button-down shirt, and wears his plugs in his ears and nobody seems to care. He works, he does his job, is friendly to co-workers… just a normal guy, really.
Oh, and as for the whole “a good lawyer wouldn’t have them” – Is that what you believe makes a lawyer better at his or her job? A lack of piercings? Implying that any lawyer with piercings is automatically not a “good” one? As my grandpa would say, get outta here with that! There are countless working professionals hiding tattoos and probably even piercings too, underneath those suits and white coats.
guest
@partofrainbow@xanga - i don’t know if someone already replied, so just ignore my comment if they did! with the kind of rings used in the piercing in the 2nd picture, the piercing will actually be taken out after 1-2 days because those are not meant to be permanent. so she would probably have it laced up for an event or photoshoot, and then remove them.
there are some ways to have a piercing like this permanent (which use the type of implant from the 1st picture), and in those cases 99.9% of the time they are not laced, since that pulls the piercings a little and if they are constantly tugged at the body will see them as a potential problem and reject ‘em out of the skin. in those cases you would probably not lace for more than a couple hours at a time, and not lace very often at all.
guest
@Japanesenightpurplegeisha@xanga - Yes! Socially acceptable piercings are great – Get that belly button ring that makes you feel sexy! But anything outside the box that’s not normal – Ew! Kill it with fire! You’ll never succeed in life!
Because, you know, there’s limits and stuff. Can’t just go around piercing yourself wherever you want on your own body! Before you know it, this guy will be your doctor and of course he has tons of tattoos so he’s probably gonna fuck you up because that shit isn’t professional looking!

Personally I find body piercings and honestly anywhere but the ears, and even then a little, disgusting. Especially those screw-in stud things. Yuck.
guest
@ScarletMoth@xanga - That happened to me when I was 5, just months after getting my ears pierced, and I got them done at Piercing Pagoda. One hole we were able to dig it out without too much problem, but the other one I had to have surgery and let the hole close and heal. When I got it redone, I went to Claires instead, and had no complications or problems at all.
guest
For mature adults, it’s mostly aesthetic. To each his/her own. For teenagers, it’s a combination of that and a large degree of wanting to fit in and/or wanting to be different – the anti-conformity conformity, so to speak.
I have a standard industrial through my right ear, and my ear lobes each have one 14g piercing. (If you go to a place that uses needles, they make a larger piercing than those horrid piercing guns, which use a 20g stud.) Personally, I do love the look of corset piercings, however, damn near everyone does them like in that picture, which is not a good way to do them. If they’re going to be done, they should be a series of surface piercings that run parallel under the skin.
We all have our own tastes and preferences. I don’t think body mods are something that a person can be made to understand. And frankly, body mods for the most part are pretty dumb, regardless of the fact that those with them will mostly get pissed at that statement. But as long as people aren’t harming anyone else, it really doesn’t matter what they do.
The reason a stigma exists against body mods is because there IS a trend I have noticed of people with them actually BEING trashy people, not taking care of their kids, living off of the government, etc. Obviously, not all are. But enough are for a stigma to exist. Actually, the fact that they used to be a criminals and sailors kind of thing is probably a bigger reason. And again, they aren’t exactly a logical thing to do.
@la_femme_inconnue@xanga - There IS a difference. Ear lobes are pretty much just smallish flaps of skin and they don’t really DO a whole lot, or deal with a lot of movement like other body parts. They sort of just… exist.
guest
Body piercing and modification in general isn’t really a trend, it’s been around for ages and it’s part of different cultures. I don’t think it’s weird at all. To me, body modification is a way to express individuality. It’s the person’s choice whether or not they want to get a piercing or tattoo or sub-dermal… etc. they just have to know that some forms are permanent (unless they want really expensive surgery) and should think before. Right now I have both ear lobes stretched to 00g, a second piercing on my right ear at 8g and I used to have an industrial but I had to let it close up. I’d like other piercings and to get tattoos but I don’t have the money right now.
guest
I know someone who is into this. She wants a corset piercing on her back, and already has a nose, and collarbone dermals. I think she even got her hip bones pierced (not in the bone itself, but where they stick out). She also has a bellybutton piercing, which is rather commonplace nowadays.
But if they want to do it, then let them. I think body piercing is as normal as tattoos and clothes. I like the look of the hip dermals if they are on the right person.
guest
@catastrophic_surveys@xanga - Yeah. Thought about that after I made the post. =P -shrug- To me it’s just more of a “hey this looks cool” than a “hey I’m want this job and I’m the best person for it”.

I have my hips pierced and I’m a certified teacher. I’d even go as far as to call myself a “nice girl.” I just so happen to like piercings and couldn’t pierce my face with my job. Simple as that.

@haltija@xanga - How did you get a permanent corset piercing? I’ve been looking into having it done and if I had lots of money to throw around I would definitely do it for a one-time event, but I don’t have that kind of money. I checked out one place in my area (Twin Cities, Minnesota) a while ago but they said the piercing was temporary and couldn’t be done permanent.
Anyway, I love piercings and have 9 currently; left ear 3, right ear 2, nose, navel and both nipples. I work as a medical transcriptionist and unless I tell my co-workers about my piercings they only know my ears are pierced.

@Melissa___Dawn@xanga - it was done with microdermals. you need a really experienced piercer, and one who is willing to do a LOT of follow-up care for you. if you get a bunch (i have 20), you will have 1 or 2 reject- which means you will have to take them out, let them heal a few months, and re do them. you may have 1 or 2 migrate, and need to repeat that process too. but once they hit about the 8 month mark, they are where they want to be and won’t go anywhere. i mean, it is a really long term commitment and your back will feel like a work-in-progress for over a year.
but if you’re willing to put up with it, it is really beautiful and i would encourage you to look into it! look for someone who really knows their stuff with microdermals. some piercers are hesitant and shy and will tell you they are afraid to do it in an area like your back, because rates of migration/rejection are higher for that area. the ideal piercer will reply with something like – “well it’ll be a long fuckin’ project, but we can do it.”

obviously you don’t understand the concept of body modification…

@x__RainOnHerParade@xanga - This, 100%!!!

Wow, someone is out of the loop lol. This has been going on for SO long, it’s ridiculous. I actually had 8 studs in my back. I love how it feels to have something in my living flesh that is cold and metal and dead.
guest
@H2O_mElOnGeEk@xanga - Yes, I did it on purpose because I didn’t want to say it to their “face.” Actually – I saw the comment and then couldn’t find it. And hey, isn’t that that point of all these ridiculous blogs to begin with?

I think back dimples are cute!
and even though some piercings freak me out, it’s the person’s body. So it’s their choice, their expression.
guest
I have to admit, one thing always comes to mind when I see anybody with lots of piercings…
Magnets. High-powered magnets. I always have the almost irresistible urge to use them on these people. If I were like Magneto from the X-Men, no pierced person would be safe!
guest
not a fan of piercings. I didn’t even have my ears pierced for the longest time! now I like my ears pierced, I have 2 in each ear

My cousin has the hipbone piercing, and one of my favorite youtube person has a piercing on her wrist ( the upper wrist) and somewhere else odd. I think it is on her neck. Either way, to me it looks like it is always infected. the area near the holes looks soo…wrong. I want to splash it with alcohol when I see it. After my two cartilage piercings I’m not getting any more done, anywhere.

@catastrophic_surveys@xanga - it seems like a weird thing to not notice- obviously it doesn’t happen often- but it was probably still a bit swollen because it was new and then it burrowed itself in there somehow. The skin on your ear can heal remarkably quickly so if you don’t notice that it’s stuck in there for a day or two, that’s probably long enough for it to form a scab and then skin.

oh, I also wanted to add, I went to a writing conference this past week and I met a woman there who is a teacher at a private school for girls, she’s 35 and she has a bunch of awesome tattoos going all the way to her elbow. She lives in Dallas so there’s no way she’s able to hide them all the time (super hot there) and she said she got her job as soon as she moved there…
this made me happy, just goes to show that it’s really the brains and charisma that get you the job, not just what is or isn’t on your skin!
–in short, I think the younger generation is a lot more leniant and less likely to equate body modification to “unprofessional”- and a lot of the time I think people just use that as a way to put other people down. Like come on, 18 year old kid who’s only worked at the local grocery store so far, you do not know what the professional world requires of anyone. Hold off on the judgment until you get there!

I have a friend who has been on numerous job interviews with piercings being shown (on her wrist, ring finger and eyebrow) and her hair is always dyed some weird color, and almost all of them told her to remove her piercings or try to make them look less noticeable and to dye her hair. She had an interview to be a bank teller, a human resources rep, a secretary and some others and they told her to change it up or she couldn’t be hired. A lot of jobs do take that seriously and I understand why. If I were to have a business and people came into interviews with all these visible body piercings (excluding the ears) then I would ask them to make them less visible. I mean if I’m taking my time to meet with you, then it’s because I like you. And, you’re representing my company or business so the least you could do is make the piercings less visible and dye your hair or something. Of course there are jobs that don’t care, but there are jobs that do. It’s always personal preference and rules.

This is not something that is new.
Extreme body modification has been around for a very long time. I was 14 when I started to become interested in more unique piercings and tattoo’s. There is a website called bmezine.com and even back then, I would go on to read stories of people getting extreme piercings.
When I was 17 I ended up getting clavicle surface piercings. After a year, they rejected, but I absolutely adored them (I am 21 now). I would never go through the pain of doing that to myself again, but I still find it neat when I see people who are brave enough to do different kinds of piercings.
They never affected my job as a teenager, and I have become pretty successful now EVEN with my half inch ear lobes. No one really cares anymore. Unless of course you have a boss that have the opinions of some of the rude people that have commented on here… and if that was the case, I wouldn’t want to be working for them any way.
It has become a lot more accepted I find over the last 10 years for people to have stretched ears, lip piercings, and awkward piercings as well. You don’t find as many people thinking that their children are going to end up like the devil if they have their nose pierced, and you don’t find people staring at much. It is just something that we have been desensitized to, and I hope as the years go on, the stereotypes and such will continue to lower.

Perhaps it’s just where I live, but where I am many people here have visible tattoos and piercings. People working at the cinema, restaurants, even the high-end business men/women can be seen walking around town with neck tattoos and sleeves, and numerous ear, lip and eyebrow piercings.

It just looks painful to me…=(

Here I go with my bluntness: This post is so DUMB!
Why can’t you just accept that the freedom to do whatever you want to
your body shouldn’t be with question? And why can’t you go for a career
which lets you look how you like? I’m going to be a cosmetologist, and
the best part is that no one can tell me how to look or breathe down my
back as I work. Anyway, piercings are not a trend, and they’re not weird, no matter where they’re done.
guest
Have you been hiding under a rock or something?
guest
It’s not for me. If it makes them happy just let them be.
guest
I think the way you phrased that made you seem like a snobby bitch.
guest
ewwwww

I just got the same exact ones as the first picture last week, I love them. I’m planning on getting one under each collar bone, as well.
guest
& btw, I find belly button piercings to be the only trashy piercing, and even those are more socially acceptable than most of these. I LOVE piercings, though, and plan on getting a bunch more.
guest
@Love_never_fails - agreed
Having piercings, tats; it’s all about preference really. I have “a” tattoo and pierced ears (right has one, left has two) and thats all I’m going to have….I MAY get the hip piercings (they’re just too cute) but ask me if I’d ever get my tongue pierced: I’d say HELL no! Ask me why? I just don’t like it. IT’s preference!
@alwaysforeversunny@xanga - totally agree…
guest
I think if you want to pierce your body and express yourself than go for it. Doesn’t make it weird. If no one pierced their ears and you had yours done that would be considered “weird”. Same goes for tattoos. It’s a form of expression and art really.
guest
@sugarandlemonade@xanga - doctors are allowed to have them, actually.
guest
@sugarandlemonade@xanga - i work in a bank and of the 17 people that work there, 10 of us have at least one tattoo. my managers both have 5 or more. there’s no reason you can’t have a respectable decent paying job while having tattoos. as long as they’re not on your neck or face. they’re extremely easy to cover, and there are plastic retainers that will keep a piercing open without being seen. maybe you should do a little research before you go making outlandish assumptions.
guest
@ooh_dreamer@xanga - if I were an employer, I would choose one that looked professional…
guest
@sugarandlemonade@xanga - how does does having a tattoo that no one sees make anyone look less professional?

I think tattoos and piercings are sexy and beautiful
guest
I want a high paying job and no infections. No piercings for me.
guest
@Adrenaline_Unknown@xanga - Here’s a hint….follow proper aftercare
guest
@Adrenaline_Unknown – ah true
i would have to get a piercing in a spot where i can hide it, which is pretty much either ears or belly button.
