We’ve all been there. You’re in a rush getting ready for your day, and the last thing you want to think about is underwear. But, you put on your granny panties with your tight jeans and suddenly you have a problem. Well, worry not, Lovelies! I’m here to break down the mysterious world of underwear.

Looking through my underwear drawer, I found that I have five main types of underwear, all of which I think have various uses and various cuteness levels. So, I thought it’d be fun to break down the five major types of underwear, as well as rate them (on a scale of 1-10) in the cuteness and functionality categories.

Here we go:

1. The Granny Panty

Cuteness: 1, maybe 2 depending on the pattern.

Functionality: 6. These are best worn under loose fitting skirts and high rise waists to avoid panty lines and the always disturbing underwear peek-a-boo.

Best Brand: I personally only wear my Granny Panties when the rest of my underwear are dirty and I’m too lazy to do laundry, so I always buy them in a pack at Target. However, if you’re willing to invest a little bit more, these Nothing Waisted Hi-Cut Brief 3-Pack Panty$27.00 from Bare Necessities look like they’d do a good job of keeping things comfortable.

2. The Boy Short

 Cuteness: 10

Functionality: 8

Full disclosure: Boy shorts are by far my favorite style of underwear, and these Honeydew Ruffle Rumba Boy Shorts for $18.00 from shopbop.com are a staple in my closet. They won’t cover your butt all the way, but (surprisingly), the ruffles don’t make weird panty lines, and they’re perfect if you have someone to look cute for at the end of the day.

3. The Bikini

Cuteness: 6

Functionality: 8

I usually don’t like the material bikini briefs come in, but these Calvin Klein Seamless Ombre Bikini Panty for $12.00 from Bare Necessities seem pretty doable. I’m loving that purple color!

4. The Thong

Cuteness: 9

Functionality: 7

Possible TMI here, but I’ve never really gotten used to the lack of butt coverage with thongs. If you have, more power to you! But when I do wear the dental floss-esque undergarment, I personally love the Hanky Panky Original Rise Lace Thong$12.60 from Bloomingdale’s. They come in fun colors, are a little bit flirty while still covering the things they should, and are comfortable. For a thong that is.

5. The Boxers

Cuteness: Usually I’d say a 7, but these ones are so cute I’m changing that to a 9.

Functionality: 10 if you’re sleeping, 4 during the daytime.

I need to get my hands on these Pink Lace Trim Boy Boxer Shorts. They’re only $15.00 from Topshop and I love the color, the little lace detail, and pretty much anything else I could love about them!

What style of underwear do you find yourself wearing the most, Lovelies? Which brands do you swear by?
