It’s that time again…the beach is calling. As much as I love the beach, the scariest part is definitely the pre-beach waxing session that has to occur.
I’m pretty tolerant of pain and I usually just go all out for a Brazilian wax, but here’s why I’m thinking that, for now, a bikini wax will do:
1. Bikini waxes are always cheaper, usually by about $20. In Manhattan, a good, “cheap” Brazilian wax can cost anywhere from $55 to $70. That’s a lot of bank to get the hair ripped off my area.
2. I can probably pass with just a bikini wax. Come on, Brazilian waxes only got big a few years ago. People were definitely wearing bikinis before Brazilian waxes became all the rage.
3. Sometimes it just feels weird to have no hair left down there. You’re supposed to have hair down there, it’s natural. Sometimes I feel like a prepubescent little girl when there’s nothing going on down there. Not to say I don’t trim or take care of that area, but no hair can get a little…naked.
4. Ingrown hairs start to show. For those of you who don’t have ingrown hairs, I am incredibly jealous. It takes a lot of maintenance to avoid them. They’re not really painful as much as I think they’re ugly. Leave it to someone with dark brown hair and incredibly fair skin to get tons of ingrowns. Not cute.
Lovelies, which do you choose — Brazilian or bikini — and why?

I really prefer Brazilian, especially for my tastes on how I prefer a guy to go down on me but sometimes Bikini is honestly way more comfortable! So I have to stick to extreme-trim bikini style.

Ummm… neither?
“As much as I love the beach, the scariest part is definitely the pre-beach waxing session that has to occur.”
It doesn’t have to occur for me. When I wear a bikini, there is no visible hair. Why exactly should I wax it all off?

unless a g-string bikini is worn, I wouldn’t wax it, and just shave

A real Brazilian should leave a small patch of hair, though it’s become eponymous with “no hair”.
Avoiding ingrown hairs is as simple as exfoliation.

“As much as I love the beach, the scariest part is definitely the pre-beach waxing session that has to occur.” This may seem rude… but I’ve always wondered when girls speak of waxing specifically for summer and make it clear they don’t wax the rest of the year… what do they do the rest of the year?
I mean… I’d have to give up shaving for AT LEAST a month to have long enough hair for waxing… sooo… do they just… let it run rampant the rest of the year? Or grow it out specifically for waxing?
Idk. EITHER WAY. My singular experience with wax involved a horrible skin reaction to it… so I stick with shaving everything off and exfoliating well. Which leaves me looking as smooth as waxing. ;D

I get Brazilian waxes through out the year, not just in the summer… It’s just a preference.

I’ve never waxed down there, I just keep it trimmed.. but I don’t go swimming, so it’s no problemo if it gets a little overgrown at times, harharhar

I prefer bikini… but when I know I’m about to start my period, I’ll get a brazilian… I just feel cleaner.
@raspbxrrryjam@xanga - I wax all year long because I just like keeping it trim and tidy. I seriously don’t want to have a jungle down there when my boyfriend and I have sex.

I don’t

@ELIZerson@xanga - you’re one of the lucky ones then! i swear, i have the lowest bikini line ever. when i wear a bikini, about an inch of hair is exposed on the sides. embarrassing, but sadly, it’s reality for me. damn my hairy mediterranean genes.
i get a brazilian once every season. i use veet wax strips to clean up the sides in between my seasonal waxes. sometimes when i’m super desperate and my friends invite me to a last-minute pool party, i’ll shave, but i get stubble within a few hours. also, i get razor bumps and they KILL.

It’s so silly to say you HAVE to do either of these things. Today’s society seems to forget that people grow pubes for a reason, perhaps the most important of which is to protect our ladyparts from foreign bacteria! :S
While I do shave my armpits and legs because I simply prefer to do so, I’ve always advocated for the ‘au naturel’ look of bodyhair, no matter where it might be found. Why should someone have to remove any hair because society seems to have made that the more popular option!? O_o We’re all human, just some of us were built with more/less hair than others.
Uh, sorry that’s the end of my little rant lol but the point is, I hope you’re only doing the waxing for yourself and not because you feel you’re ‘supposed’ to. I’m sure you’d be fine with keeping it all trimmed short.
P.S. You’re so right about the prepubescent look; I always find it disgusting when guys prefer a woman to be completely bare down there. Makes me feel like they secretly lust after 6 year old girls or something X_X Real men want a REAL woman down there, TRUST ME!

If I’m getting any wax at all, it’ll be Brazilian. I like Tend Skin to avoid ingrowns. If you don’t like the look/feel like a little girl when you get it, you shouldn’t do it.

#3 it’s funny how that reason switches back and forth between so many different girls I know. Some get disgusted when they think about having or seeing someone with hair down there. And others get disgusted when they think about not having any hair down there because they feel it makes them look 12. Just kinda makes me laugh every time I hear either side heh.
Brazilian if it costs more and really doesn’t do much for you is a waste. Go for the standard bikini then. I need to get waxed, every time I do it myself it just ends up a mess heh. In grown hairs definitely suck though, sorry for you there.

I pay $30 for my Brazilian in Manhattan.

I’d only get a bikini wax, pretty much for the same reasons as you have up there: I only /need/ my bikini line done, I don’t think I’d like it completely bare (it’d feel weird, plus I am a young ADULT), & if it’s cheaper, I’m all for saving money.

I always just shave regardless of any season out there. I have this huge thing about hair (minus on the arms and head).

I prefer brazilians, its just cleaner.

I’ve been twice now for a brazillian my third appointment is up next month. If I’m getting waxed there I will go all the way.
I pay $40 No ingrown hairs here
I use to think I would feel like a little girl if I took it all off but then I had the guts to do away with it and now I will never go back to a landing strip!
