So lately I’ve noticed all these hipsters skulking around Williamsburg with these beat-up looking nylon backpacks bearing a fox logo and the Nordic-looking word “Fjällräven.” Huh? I decided to Google it.
It turns out Fjällräven, which means “arctic fox,” is a Swedish outdoor clothing and equipment company The backpack that I’ve seen most frequently in Brooklyn is the Kånken Mini, which costs $45.
They also make clothes, and more traditional backpacking gear:
The company, which Racked describes as “appealing equally to hipsters, fashion insiders, and camping enthusiast,” just opened a store in downtown NY, making it even easier for cool kids to score these stylish backpacks.
Have you guys seen anyone toting these backpacks? Would you?

I laughed so much at the fact that the hipsters are skulking around Williamsburg

They’re not new…they’ve been around. I would know — I go to NYU, where everybody and their mother tries to be hipster if not a descendant of an elite family.

Never seen them before. I don’t have a problem with them, but I’m generally more into North Face and REI gear if I need something outdoorsy.

I don’t look that closely at people’s bags to know what they are carrying. Now that the heat index is like 100+ the only thing I am thinking is get out of my way now so I can get to a building with an air conditioner. People could be naked and I still wouldn’t look at their bag.

these bags are nothing new. i guess theyre becoming a trend but i remember wanting to buy one for my trip to spain over a year ago. i settled with a nice old jansport anyway. those are cute though! and it appears the price has gone down. haha about the new yorker faux-elitist comments you guys are making

i feel i should also mention anyone interested in getting the fjallraven shouldn’t overlook it because they’re now apparently labeled ‘hipster’. (i can understand why people might find ’hipsters’ annoying, but i secretly find them intriguing. shh
…) the minis are cute functional and incredibly durable.
i also would like to note my observation that the hipster trend, ironically enough has become quite mainstream and very commercial. you see it’s references in urban outfitters and pacsum clothing (both major clothing retailers), and while indie has always been a genre of music, i think many major record labels are actullay picking up bands that might theoretically fall under that label. you can also turn to MTV late in the night to discover some of these acts. i find it very interesting. the pervasiveness of the internet has really allowed for the indie lifetsyle or whatever to become easiy accesible to everyone. so the irony within the irony is quite… ironic. haha.before you had to venture to unknown crevices of the inner city to discover the underground scene or whatever in a coffee shop or record store, not it’s as easy as a google search
just observations ramblings etc ha

I find it really fucking interesting how things that have been around for years are suddenly “hipster” or “indie” jeez. It’s so damn annoying. Hipsters are taking over the world…

I saw this brand back in January at Disney World and just assumed the person was foreign >_< It was Disney World, after all. I actually think the bag is cute, even if it is “hipster” haha

lmfao these were SO LAME here in Sweden until recent years, they’ve been around for aaaages but the Stockholm hipster kids just decided they were really cool. Probably exactly because they were so lame. Typical hipster making-a-statement-that-doesn’t-mean-anything kind of logic…

I’d use it if it were given to me for free…
