I know what you’re all thinking, “Why? She’s so weird! She’s always doing crazy things!” I get questioned a lot about why I love her so much. What I don’t understand is why I get questioned in the first place. What everyone is seeing in the tabloids does not give a single strand of justice as to why millions of her little monsters are in love with her.
First off, yes, she is famous for sporting outrageous and abnormal attire. But since when was it acceptable to bash someone that was confident in showing their uniqueness? What I’m saying is, why should we challenger her individuality when most of us are trapped in a world where we believe the only thing acceptable is being like everyone else?
This is one of the reasons why I love her: she’s not afraid to be herself, to wear what she wants to wear, and hold her head up doing it. Who are we to judge her when all she is doing is expressing herself, promoting individuality and self-confidence?
Secondly, I love her because of her passion for equality, love, and embracing and loving yourself for who you are. What I’m referring to is her on-going commitment to rights for the LGBT (Lesbian/Gay/Bi/Trans) Community.
Even though she may not be a lesbian herself, she fights for these rights. Her commitment has led to many LGBT individuals believing in themselves again by giving them hope that gay-rights will be accepted. (Note: Just in case you were wondering, I’m heterosexual.)
What’s next? She may be an amazing entertainer in terms of creating tons of publicity and headlines, but unlike many other singers out there, she can actually sing. If you look up her older songs that she had performed BEFORE she was famous, you’d fall in love with her voice. Her a Capella versions of current songs are just memorizing. She has a voice and she isn’t afraid to show it.
One more thing, but not the last: her devotion to care for her fans. I really do think she appreciates her fans. There are many instances where she has done things that are out of the ordinary, just to show a little love towards her little monsters. For example, while everyone was lining up for hours to get her autograph, she bought pizza for everyone in line. And who could forget Maria Aragon, the little girl that touched Lady Gaga so much with her cover of Born this Way, that she invited Maria to perform with her in the Monster Ball show in Toronto.
All in all, she’s someone I admire. I don’t want to force everyone in the world to love her, you’re free to your own opinions about her! Maybe she’s just not your cup of tea, it’s understandable! But it does make me urk a little when people just judge her by what they are told through the media, or just judging a book by it’s cover.
What do you think of Gaga, Lovelies? Who are your favorite artists?

Yeah, I don’t understand how any of these things you talked about are bad things. Some people just have so much legit hate for her.. And I really don’t understand. Even if you don’t like her music, she seems like a genuinely good person.
guest
The woman’s got some pipes. I won’t deny her that. And I do love that she fights for causes instead of sexualizing herself all over the media. *coughBRITNEYRIHANNAKE$HAcough*
Also, I bought one of her bracelets in the name of Japan’s tsunami relief
I like your reasons. Good post!

I don’t hate her, and she can clearly sing and act.
I just think she’s… overrated.

Meh. I am not convinced she is herself at all. In fact, I can say that it’s a fact that she’s not. I think she does whatever is different because she knows kids will eat it up. I mean, I have read about how she was in high school, which is nothing like the woman we know her as.
guest
I never seen a celebrity who cares so much for their “little monsters” as much as she does.
I’m not her biggest fan or anything, but I do appreciate the way she treats her fans.
@MissAshley - That might be true, but people change after high school.
Perhaps she was too afraid to be herself in high school, and now she is actually being herself?

@MissAshley - Question: Are YOU the same person you were in high school?

@MissAshley - i so agree with you. i think that she does all that weird stuff because she doesn’t like who she is.
watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0bNHxHeTZQ this video makes her seem like a douche to me. now don’t everyone go crazy, this is my OPINION

Nope. I listen to music that has actual substance and doesn’t require a dance club beat to keep someone’s attention.
Some people dig her. Some people don’t. Everyone has different taste and no one is wrong for their own personal opinions of an artist’s music.

Dear Laurie,
Gotta have my Gaga. And I’ve been listening to and collecting popular music since high school (1967)
Here are some entries concerning my lady from the world’s oldest living Little Monster, at age 58.

I am a Gaga fan because I love to see a good show.
She’s a performer, tried and true. It doesn’t matter if she’s dressing to please herself or someone else… what matters is that she’s putting on a show. And it’s a show worth watching.
Plus using her fame and face to bring attention to social justice causes, and giving her younger fans some REALLY positive messages in her music.
Okay, okay, I’m also a Gaga fan because I love to dance to her music.
daisy / 599 posts
@UnconventionalButterfly@xanga - Well I’m not wearing meat to help me sell records, nor would I ever, for that matter. My point is, this is all just her gimmick. Just like Marilyn Manson, Nicki Minaj, etc. She’s not sitting at home with her family looking like a circus act. This is what she does to sell her image. Why don’t people get that?
rose / 812 posts
@MissAshley - So if somebody is “different” that means they’re just doing it to get attention?
guest
When she first came out, I didn’t get the big deal about her — and then I heard “LoveGame.” I’ve loved her ever since.
daisy / 734 posts
@betterdesigned@xanga - I’m generally the same as you, but she has some that don’t involve dance club beats that are good to listen to.
@shandilion@xanga - Some of my friends watched the entire special and they said it didn’t match the preview whatsoever… it’s like when movies put all the funny moments in the preview and you go and it’s not what you expect at all. But you’re definitely entitled to your opinion.
I’m not really a pop music fan in general (some are my guilty pleasures), but I can really get behind Gaga (as in I genuinely include her among one of my favorite artists). Most people think that she is just a big phony with the costumes and the oddness, but when she makes appearances she always seems really genuine and sweet and funny. Plus if you do some background research into some of her songs (I’m thinking of Judas in particular but there are definitely others), there’s a lot going on behind them, which I think is really cool. I read a blog post recently from someone who was at the MMVA’s who was commending Gaga about how nice she was to everyone and how much respect she has for her fans, and how none of the other celebrities who made an appearance had half the courtesy she had. So that’s pretty cool. I like seeing that in the world of the famous.
daisy / 599 posts
@UnconventionalButterfly@xanga - You mean, different….just like everyone else? Most likely, yes. At least in my opinion, Gaga definitely does. Besides Gaga’s image is basically compiled of imitations from celebs and artists before her. It’s been a good while since I’ve seen someone genuinely different doing things that hasn’t already been done. We are coming upon a time where most things have already been said and done and trying to break your back to shock and do something that hasn’t been seen is pretty foolish and superficial. The harder you try, the more fake you become. I could be as famous as Gaga in one month, by going crazy out there things and kids would love it and think I am “so unique and a genius” but I won’t dare do that because I would be fooling them all and being fake.
guest
I love Gaga too! she’s one of the few music artists nowadays who truly has an amazing voice.
sunflower / 416 posts
@MissAshley - EXACTLYYYY. Thank you! No one seems to remember that Lady Gaga is just Stefani Germanotta, someone who used to be a regular teen and was not even remotely out-there or different from any other teen girl. For God’s sake, she used to look normal. She didn’t wear revealing clothing or wear crazy wigs or anything. She turned into someone entirely different when she turned into Lady Gaga. In effect, she’s given up normalcy for that taste of fame, that aching need to call attention to herself and be remembered. Yes, she uses her fame for good causes, but that doesn’t make her unafraid to be herself. In my opinion, she dresses in all these crazy outfits and tries to cause controversy because she was bored with her previous self. It would be different if she was ALWAYS that weird – but knowing that she grew up as a normal teenager who didn’t stand out whatsoever, I do not believe that she’s dressing the way she does just because she can. The more crazy her ensemble and her actions, the more fame she will get. She knows this. It’s not that hard to see. I do like her music (some of it, at least) and her personal beliefs, but her outrageous persona is all an act. That’s just my opinion though.
daisy / 599 posts
@not_your_concern@xanga - Yeah I feel the same. I like her music (although her new album is kinda blah) but I enjoy most of her other songs. I just don’t care for what she’s wearing or talking about.

If people don’t like her music or clothes I don’t care. Everyone has their own taste and that is fine. I like pop but I also like classical and black metal and rap. So in the end, who gives a shit, music is music.
But when people pass judgement that they can’t even properly back up, that is what irks me. She means a lot to so many different people. She has directly and indirectly changed people’s lives not only through her stardom but just by being a good person in general. There are some people out there that are truly happy with dressing loud and outragous. That is who they feel they are. Sometimes the general public just thinks that they know who everyone is and why they do what they do which is total bullshit. People that assume they know it all are the worst.
Even if some people think her songs are nothing but crap and not “real music”, the song “Edge of Glory” has gotten me through some really hard times lately along with other music I listen to. My friends and boyfriend notice an instant boost in mood when I listen to her. She makes me feel like a person who can conquer the world even though most days I’d just rather not be around.

I loooove Gaga. It bugs me when people say she isn’t talented.

So why aren’t you? To say something like this is futile, unless you were just as famous as she was. Also, how do you know she’s fake? She doesn’t “imitate” other celebrities. Art is about inspiration and self-expression. She is a performance artist. What about that is so fake and hard to believe? When someone can relate to a large group of people through their art it does not make them fake, or over done, it makes them human.
guest
@opticalnoise@xanga - I have to agree with everything you said.
daisy / 599 posts
@Saridactyl@xanga - I don’t want to be famous. And she has imitated Madonna in a million ways. If you want to think she’s real then that’s you’re right, but I am just not buying it.
guest
@MissAshley -
I still think it’s a bit much for you to say that you could be just as famous as she is.
Drawing inspiration from something is different from imitating. You yourself said that everything has been done, going by that, then nothing is original. Hell, look at Usher. He was most definitely not the first person to do the moonwalk, he idolized Michael Jackson and it shows in his dancing.
I’m not saying that she doesn’t know and understand how to sell image, because she obviously does. What I’m saying is that her image is apart of the message she is trying to send. She’s more than a pop artist. She’s an entertainer. How many other pop performers do you know that can give a detailed description of why she wore a meat dress, or any other outfit they wore? Symbolism is a big part of who she is and what she’s trying to do.
I cannot attest to whether or not she’s authentic. I’ve never met her and I don’t know her personally, but neither do you or anyone else here.
daisy / 599 posts
@Saridactyl@xanga - Fair enough. I guess I just am more drawn to musicians than entertainers and celebs that seem more just like average people. It’s why I like Christina for her voice better than I ever did with Britney and her dancing. I don’t care for Katy Perry except for her song ET just because that song is badass. I don’t care Nicki Minaj either. I more like Adele, Beyonce, etc. But that’s just me. I see your point though.

@MissAshley - To each their own. Adele is pretty awesome, her voice is amazing.

Her outfits and overbearing pop songs make fun of the Britney’s and Christina’s of the last ten years!
and just about every other act that takes themselves too seriously
Thank You!

I love her so, so much and even though she is straight (or… mostly… straight…?), the fact that she stands up so strongly for lgbt rights astounds me.
She knows that what she’s selling is her image. And that’s what I think is fucking awesome – she knows that people will eat up whatever she gives to us and she’s “manipulating” us, for a lack of a better word, to really understand issues and ourselves.

I don’t hate her, but I think she is vastly overrated, and her “originality” and how she “is herself” is just part of how marketed she is so her “little monsters” keep being like sheep to her. Not to mention her voice is shitty (is that what you consider a good voice? You need Pandora), her lyrics are a comedy, her songs are repetitive… it was fun a while ago, now it’s old and pathetic.
But seriously, only idiots would buy that she’s actually so “original”… probably was told by her agents she needed to stand out because another Norah Jones won’t sell.
guest
THANK YOU. FINALLY. People have too much hatred on her and it’s the time to let them realize that she is just a good human being like everybody else.I mean, man this fine woman does nothing wrong to our world and has pretty good messages in some of her songs. SOOOOO, JUST LET HER BE.
guest
Her image is not her. People are telling her what to wear, what to sing, and how to act. MK Ultra.

SHE IS JUST AWESOME OVERALL

@betterdesigned@xanga - I listen to “dance club” music, but I also have a wide assortment of other different artists in my library. I don’t always want to hear something with so much, as you put it, “substance.” But then again, I’m just really open to a lot of music and I’m not ashamed to admit there are days when I just want to put on some Gaga and let it bring my mood up a bit. In my opinion, Lady Gaga is infinitely better than most of the crap they play at clubs. Even the snootiest music snob, would, I hope, have one or two artists with slightly less serious music with a good beat that they enjoy.
guest
I love Gaga. She uses her artistic license to do what she wants and to make the art she wants. She has a fantastic voice, and she is a terrific pianist! Do I think she’s a little off the wall sometimes? Yeah, sure- but who am I to say she can’t do the stuff she does?
guest
Even if you don’t like her music and think her outfits are straight out attention whoring and nothing else, it’s hard to deny that Gaga is a good person, one who really cares about her fans and tries to use her fame to promote self-acceptance.
guest
If you don’t know someone personally, the only thing you can judge them by is the way they present themselves to the world.
You are free to like her. I am free to think she’s silly.

@not_your_concern@xanga - ”In my opinion, she dresses in all these crazy

i watched this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0bNHxHeTZQ someone posted it…
to me it just seems like a person’s struggle to be comfortable with herself, much like anyone else’s struggle.
also, as far as the issue of authenticity, or trying too hard, i’m not entirely sure how anyone can truly have a valid opinion unless you know her personally. people change so much from the time they are in high school so that’s a senseless point to bring up.
also, i fail to see where so much hate comes from towards a chick that’s a talented performer and pretty passionate about having strong, positive messages like to be yourself. if she were entirely a gimmick, she probably wouldn’t be so into preaching her beliefs.
guest
I’m glad you love Lady Gaga so much that “Her a Capella versions of current songs are just memorizing,” but you mean ‘mesmerizing,’ right?

shes definatly done something good for a lot of people by trying to make it ok for them to be themselves and love the skin they’re in

I admit, that I dance and sing along with her songs when out drinking/clubbing with friends, but I would never buy her music or listen to it on my own. To be honest, the way her fans fawn over her and call themselves her “little monsters” creeps me the f%^& out. She has some fun beats, but I think she’s an overrated sell-out and I don’t believe for an instant that her absurd style is a form of “self-expression – It’s all attention seeking. And while it’s understandable that she would do that (she IS an entertainer after all), it still irks me that she gets so much credit for being an individual and “unique,” when I don’t really believe that she is. I don’t hate her (I don’t care enough to hate her), but I am sort of looking forward to the day when she fades away and I don’t have to listen to her repetitive bullshit every time I turn on the radio.
guest
I enjoy the performance art bit of her stardom. As in what she does with her outfits her videos her shows. I don’t doubt seeing her live would be amazing, but I don;t know if Id be able to take it because I do not like her music. And YES she can sing. Shes really creative and inspiring. Lady Gaga herself makes the music she makes OK. Id love to meet her but if she asked what i thought of her music (like she cares haha) Id say I don’t think it to be special. Which is fine. Lady Gaga hersef more than makes up for it
guest
On the bit that Lady GaGa does what she does for attention and to shock people, well. That’s what she does. It may be a gimmick, but she is a performer, and I think people forget that. Yes, she’s trying to get your attention, but she herself is also a work of art, and her clothing is part of that. When I think about Lady GaGa, I think of her more as my friend or an ally more than a performer on stage. I admire so much what she does, and her message of love for self and others is moving. Maybe some people think her music is stupid, but I am sure there is at least one person whose life was saved by her music. If it saves one life, if it stops someone from feeling so poorly about himself or herself, if it gives someone confidence. If it does that for just one person, that’s success. Even if her music goes to complete crap, the message she stands for will always shine brighter than that because I feel like she is a truly beautiful human being, inside and out. She cares for all of her little monsters, even if she doesn’t know them. She knows that they are worth it, and that everyone deserves to be happy.

Lady Caca is hardly herself. She’s copying a previously successful formula (read: Madonna.)

I’ll be honest. I have judged her by her appearance and by what little I have seen or heard of her, so I haven’t really given her music a chance. Maybe I should… I don’t really like what I’ve heard on the radio, but maybe some of her other music is good.
guest
I may not like all her songs, I love some of her songs. I might think her fashion sense is crazy but I love her quirkiness, her personality, and what she fights for.
I love her for the same reasons that you do too XD!
guest
@not_your_concern@xanga - (Ugh, sorry to respond, like half a week after you posted this.
)
For the most part… she dresses no more outrageous than I would dress if I didn’t HATE being harassed in public. So… were I famous, and going to get harassed no matter what, I’d dress however I wanted. Which means… I’d probably look a lot like she does some of the time.
So you can look at it from the perspective of “she dresses that way to enhance her fame” or you could look at it as “she does what she’s always wanted to… but didn’t because dressing that way as a normal person hinders your personal and professional life.” ;D
Obviously one of those is a more likely reason than the other… just saying that it’s not outside the realm of possibility that she really does wear that sort of thing because she wants to.

@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - I completely agree. I use to love her music but her newest songs were very disappointing. Her outrageous clothes and personality are getting pretty old and when she shaved her head bald I thought that was a cry for desperation to me.
