So cute! After hearing that the gay marriage bill was passed in New York last night, Neil Patrick Harris and partner, David Burtka, announced their engagement on Twitter.

The two are already parents to twins, Gideon and Harper, who were birthed via a surrogate mother. The twins, born in early October 2010, are a sign that even without a gay marriage bill, gay and lesbian couples are raising families.

I’m straight, but personally, I love the non-traditional family. I’ve taught children who come from same-gender parent backgrounds and they are just as sweet, bright, and wonderful as any other child. As a New York resident, I’m proud of the bill passed last night and am glad that celebs and non-celebs alike can take part in this amazing moment in history.
