Jennifer Aniston showed off her first tattoo on Friday, and it wasn’t the coordinates of new beau Justin Theroux’s birthplace.
The new ink on the inside of her right foot reads “Norman,” in honor of her Welsh corgi-terrier (seen in the first picture) who passed away last month at the age of 15. In a recent taping of Inside the Actors Studio, she said her favorite word was her late dog’s name.
Would you honor your deceased pet with a tattoo?

No, I wouldn’t, but I’m glad she got it somewhere not so in-your-face.

@Xx_SCRiBBLY@xanga - 100% agree.
I’ve never been so attached to a pet that I’d feel the need to tattoo their name on myself. But I can respect people that love their pets to the point that they are almost like children to them. It is a small, personal, semi-hidden tattoo that looking at her many people wouldn’t even notice.

Last night at dinner, my brother was on his phone and said that Jennifer Aniston getting a tattoo was on the front page of Yahoo News. “This is what the world has come to.” I thought that was kinda funny.

Perfect timing- last night I saw an old friend who got a paw print on his calf in honor of his dog who just passed away. Granted, the dog was seventeen, the guy was twenty, so it was a big part of his childhood.
I want a small tattoo sometime, but I want it to be memorable and important. That gave me the idea of doing something in honor of my dog when she passes away. She’s been a hugely important part in my life and I love her to death and I think it’s a great idea. (:
My dog is my child; we got her when I was in fourth grade and I’m an only child, so she really is my baby sister.

No way, seems like a desperate reason to get a tattoo. At least it’s more personal than a word like, “peace” or “dream”. Good thing her dog wasn’t named Blacky or Bubba (those are dogs my Grandpa had).
I have tattoos on my feet and I love them. I can honestly say that it is the most painful place to get a tat. Even the tattoo artist agreed. When the pain would get unbearable, I’d think, “okay, I can handle this. It can’t get much worse.” and then he would move the ink gun to a different spot and the pain would get worse. I even had a tramadol to help with the pain and it felt like I hadn’t taken one at all. So, Kudos to Jen for getting a foot tat.

I’m not sure that I would… I love my dog, the way he’ll look at me with those huge eyes when he knows I’m sad and how he’ll bark at my boyfriend when he tries to kiss me… he’s like an overprotective brother. But even though I can understand why anyone would get a tattoo their dog’s name, it’s not really for me. I’d rather put up a couple of beautiful photos around the house that I’ve taken of him throughout the years
And just a last comment: I think it’s a very tasteful tattoo and I agree that I like the fact that it is not in-your-face at all.

I don’t like name tattoos, but i have incorporated a favorite horse of mine’s name into my tattoo; i got a tattoo of a horse with a red feather in her mane (His name is Redfeather). He was never actually my horse but we have a real bond. I would totally buy him if the place would sell him.

I also would really like to get a tattoo of my dog’s name on my wrist or something. I would like to carry a little piece of her with me everyone, other than her dog hairs.

Absolutely. My pets mean something to me. My bff actually has a paw print and their name or intial for every animal she has had that die.
My pup is still very young but I wouldn’t mind doing something like that. I think it’s very meaningful.

@Joobie82@xanga - Idk, my rib tattoo was pretty awful. And it’s freaking big. It’s weird because I can’t imagine the foot not being painful but plenty of people I know said it wasn’t that bad.

I don’t think I would do it, but I think kudos to her for loving her dog so much and doing something she wanted to do regardless of criticism.

I just lost my dog on June 5th…she was only 1.5 years old…it came so randomly…
I am definitely thinking of getting a tattoo to honor her…she was my husband and I’s first real dog (not my parents’ dog)
Aby will always have a special place in my heart…and I would consider having her name tattooed on me…
just can’t decide where…

): losing a dog after fifteen years together must be so hard… poor thing.

I wouldn’t but kudos to her anyways! I would honor my deceased pet with a framed photo on the mantel and dresser. <3

i would get my cats name on me like that. i love my kitty & i’m going to be sad when she passes away =(

I would honor a deceased pet with a photo in a frame as well, or one of those personalized little stones you can get to put in the yard.

I think it’s really sweet. I don’t ever want a tattoo, but if I did, I could see myself doing this kind of thing.

=o) that’s adorable. i would do that. animals that we come to love are if anything, more significant than humans. they are loyal til death while people lack that awesome quality most pets have. i may recieve some haterade aimed at me for that one but whatever. lol. i think dogs and kitties and all kindsa other pets you grow with and love are irreplacable as the humans other people lose to death. that was 15 years of loyal friendship that dog gave her! totally worthy of some ink.

@SexyGamerGirl@xanga - Not to be mean, but the only person who had one who said it didn’t hurt was a bigger girl with some extra padding on her food. There’s a ton of little bones filled with nerves that are killer.
I’ve heard rib tattoos are pretty painful too. Don’t know how it feels yet but I will in a few months. : )

@Joobie82@xanga - Good luck. And no, you’re not being mean. I did say that I could only imagine it would hurt. My foot is bony! Good luck with the rib tattoo. I was so tense the entire time and squeezed the shit out of my bf’s hand.

the red eared slider turtle that I had when I was a kid didn’t die. I freed the turtle at the park’s pond
au revoir, monsieur turtle! to freedom!!!!!!!

That’s fucking weird..

I love it! I plan on getting my second tattoo soon, and it’ll be the outline of my dog’s paw. He’s been my best friend since fourth grade, and he’s been there for everything, so…yes, totally understand.
guest
Deceased pet? No. Person. Yes.
guest
Hell yeah, I would. Not for all of them, of course. I had a dog for 11 years growing up that I loved to death and when she died I was crushed.. But I swear the dog I have now is my soulmate. And I’m married to the love of my life, so that’s really saying a lot about this pup. C:

I’ve got a tattoo for one dog that passed and I’m working on another for my other dog that passed. I will get more when my two current pups pass (if they pass, that it. I hope we can transfer our minds to robot bodies before they get too old and die.)

I think when my cat passes away I would like to get a tattoo of her paw print somewhere on my foot. She’s my baby. I love her dearly.
I think this is very sweet. And I agree with many other posters that it’s good that it isn’t such an in-your-face type of tattoo.

I’ve considered getting my cats’ paw prints tattooed on me.

No.. I love my dogs and all but… Not enough to get a tattoo of their names…

I don’t know. I had a cat named Puddy and a dog named Buttons, so I think it would look a little weird. My current pets are Jasmine (cat) and Ruby (puppy), which is still a bit strange to have inked on your body forever…

That’s sweet.

I don’t see anything wrong with it at all. People who don’t/can’t have kids often have pets that they see as children. I’m 20 and I have the yearning for kids bad at the moment, but my fiance and I are not financially ready for a child, so I have a small dog that I see as my own. He’s my baby and I can tell when he just looks up at me in the eyes for several seconds without breaking focus, he feels as much love for me as I feel for him. Having a pet is an amazing joy and gift and I see nothing wrong with honoring their lives and their existence in ours.

I wouldn’t get a tattoo of my dogs name (His names Jimmy), but I will be getting either his face or his paw tattooed on me.
I know that some people get attached to things differently; my dog is my baby. I love him, and I have tattoos for everyone else important to me – my mom, my grandfather, my grandmother, my sister – and I feel like my dog is just as important.
To each their own. I love her tattoo. Great location too.

I think it’s sweet. Especially since I just her in the movie Marley & Me the other day. The dog lover in her really shines through in that movie (except for the parts where she’s screaming to get rid of it).
I’m not a tattoo person, so I’d never get a tattoo of anything, but I can understand why someone might want their dog’s name or something else to remember them by. I think it’s more meaningful than random butterflies, or Japanese symbols on non-Japanese people who don’t read Japanese and never saw or thought about the Japanese symbol before they started thinking about what kind of tattoo they wanted.
guest
I would. My dog’s one of my best friends, and I love her so much. Sometimes animals are just easier to connect with than people. Way more accepting and understanding, too.
Go on, internet. Prove my point.

My dogs name was Spanky… I always thought it’d be funny to get that tattooed on my ass.
Yes?
guest
poor thing, after brad all she had was her dog, and now it died on her too…

Answer: No

That dog must have stood with her through thick and thin. Good for her. A dog’s love is way more innocent than a human’s love. Cut her some slack.
