I miss those days when I actually woke up early purposefully to watch Saturday morning cartoons, and came home from school and watched quality cartoons that were on network TV rather than just Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, or the Disney Channel.
This was the time before Disney stars, and computer animation. When all you needed was Sesame Street to learn about life and numbers. It’s sad that most of the cartoons I cherish the most aren’t even syndicated, because I know that any kid who would watch any of the cartoons that I’m going to list would completely forget about Wonder Pets and only want to watch my shows.
Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers: This show had it all. Mystery, adventure, travel, cute characters, funny evil-doers, and a girl who kicked ass.
Bobby’s World: The show that launched Howie Mandel’s career dontchaknow. Bobby had an amazing imagination, and I watched this show religiously.
Animaniacs: Wacko, Yacko, and Dot, quite possibly the coolest sibling trio on television ever. But it wasn’t just these guys. We had: Pinky & the Brain, Buttons & Mindy, and Slappy Squirel. The segmented show was hilarious, and was gone too soon. Warner Brothers really knew their cartoons.
Tiny Toon Adventures: Another great Warner Brothers show that featured younger looking versions of Looney Tunes characters. Buster and Babs Bunny headed the crew at Acme Looniversity, along with Elmyra Duff, Plucky Duck and Dizzy Devil.
Recess: I was a little bit older when Recess came around, but not too old to watch it. This group of kids, lead by T.J, lived in this great fantasy world where Recess was the real world, complete with a King and that group of ditzy girls called the Amber’s
Did you watch any of these cartoons growing up? What were your faves?

The last three.
I also loved AHH! Real Monsters..and Angry Beavers. xD

When I was a kid I liked GI Joe, Transformers, Thundercats, Voltron, and Jem. I remember those shows. I just didn’t watch them.

OMG! I LOVE RECESS! I’ve actually been watching a lot of older shows on youtube. I miss “the good old days”

I believe the group of girls on Recess were called ‘The Ashleys.’ I LOVED Recess, too, by the way!
Mikey was always my favorite, how he was such a softie for a big guy and he was always so dramatic xD

I remember in the early ’90s, FOX would air old cartoons like The Flinstones at 3 a.m.

My sister and I LOVED Chip ‘n’ Dale Rescue Rangers! We still sing the theme song, haha. Recess was really good, too.

Oh man those shows were the bomb. My absolute favorite, though, would be Animaniacs. My older brother and I used to watch them together when we were kids, and strangely even though he was growing out of some of the other cartoons by then Animaniacs still captivated the both of us for the entirety of its run on tv.

Fuckin’ right. My brother and I used to watch Aladdin everyday before school. That show was coo.
guest
Oh and I watched The Wild Thornberries all the time. That show was dope!
guest
I remember one episode of Recess where everyone found out that Spinelli’s first name was actually Ashley. Haha! @surveys_fortheteenageesoul@xanga - yup, the Ashleys, not the Ambers.
I miss Animaniacs and Pinky & the Brain. I grew up on Beavis & Butthead too, and Ren & Stimpy… I’d probably let my kids watch it. Today’s shows, eh… the 90s were way better.

Recess! Gosh I miss the 90′s cartoons XD!
My favorite cartoon was and still is Hey Arnold!

I watched all of these plus most of the Nick shows and some Cartoon Network stuff. I rarely ever watched the Disney channel as a kid except for the classic movies.

My Top 5 were:
Rugrats, Ahh! Monsters, Hey Arnold!, Dragon Ball Z and it’s a tie between Sailor Moon and Zodiac Knights (in Spanish they’re called Caballeros del Zodiaco, so I’m guessing Zodiac Knights is the correct translation).
My brother and I would always watch most of these together (he was “too big” to watch Rugrats and Sailor Moon was for girls), as well as Animaniacs, Dexter’s Lab, Pinky and the Brain and Courage the Cowardly Dog.

The Magic School Bus, X-Men cartoons, Ninja Turtles and my all time favorite, Extreme Ghostbusters. It’s a bit of a shame these are no longer around. The cartoons kids watch these days are… yuck. I mean, Bratz? REALLY?
guest
Oh I remember those shows. I also watched Rugrats, Tale Spin, Hercules, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Salute Your Shorts, Tiny Toon Adventures and many more. Cartoons today are not good.
guest
Recess was the best show EVER.

Top 5, east
Swat Katz: The Radical Squadron
Talespin
Darkwing Duck
DuckTales
And a little before my time, but I still watched it- Scooby Doo, Where Are You?

I watched the Disney’s One Saturday Morning block and a lot of PBS kids shows when I was little too. As well as looney toons and the shows that were on nick. Hey Arnold and power puff girls were later but also awesome. I wish those were still in syndication.
Wonderpets is not really good, but there are a lot of good kids shows that air now. Avatar, Wordgirl, Between the Lions, Jack’s Big Music Show, Scooby Doo, Foster’s Home for Imaginary friends ended a couple years ago but is still recent, same with teen titans. Adventure Time and Flapjack are pretty funny too, I think.
There are crap shows on now and there were crap shows on then. As awesome as those 90s cartoons were, I don’t see anyone saying they miss Alf-tales or that show where Droopy was a detective or Cro (I liked that one) or *shudder* cow and chicken which is probably the most disturbing “kids” cartoon I can think of.
I love animation and I watch kids programming a lot to see what’s happening. I know nostalgia is a powerful thing, but I feel like I have to defend some of the shows that are on now. It won’t be the same to most people, because they aren’t kids anymore, but there are shows on now with the same narrative and visual quality that were on then. Just look past wonderpets and wow wow wubzy…

Recess for the win! I use to watch that religiously. I also loved Arthur

RECESS…!

Screw Nick, Cartoon Network, and Disney channel! Network cartoons used to be the BEST! Almost all cartoons suck now regardless of the channel. :/

I go into an IRC that streams all the good TV shows from the 90s.
