Rats are known to make an appearance on the subways tracks of New York City, but now they’re making an appearance in an extremely unlikely place.
Rodents hit the runway at last month’s NYC Fancy Rat Convention, showing people “how beautiful they are,” according to one of the event’s organizers. Pet fashion designer (yes, that is a real job) Ada Nieves said, “Rats are very popular these days and the owners love to dress them up.” Nieves also said rats “enjoy wearing her outfits,” which can be purchased for about $80.
I’d hate to see what happens when a rat gets pissed about the fact that they’re wearing tulle, sequins and feathers.

I’ll be the first to admit that I loved Stuart Little and think this little animated (read: NOT REAL) rat is super cute, but fashion shows for rats? That’s just a little much.

AWWWWWWWWWWW THEY’RE SO CUTE.
My first pet was a rat named Willy, who we literally saved from the jaws of death.. he was gonna be snake food!
Anyhoot, we always put little Santa hats on him at Christmas, and a green top hat on Saint Patty’s day..
Now I miss my rat.

I think this is just adorable. It’s a cool idea to introduce rats into a more positive light too because they are really intelligent creatures and so fun to play with. They are probably one of my favorite types of pets to own too. :]

I used to have two pet rats that were very sweet and nothing like the ginormous sewer rats. They were very OCD about grooming. And this is freaking adorable. I love the dance recital rat!

Rats really hate anything restricting like clothing. We actually discussed this on a rat forum I’m a member of. The general consensus was that our pets would tolerate the clothing long enough for a few cute pics but more than that and they wiggled out, on to the next adventure.

So adorable. I love rats. My sister and I used to dress ours up in barbie clothes… some got annoyed, but others really didn’t mind.

Dressing animals up in costume has always seemed silly to me. There are *some* practical reasons to put clothes on a dog- like when we lived in a snowy climate, she wore boots to protect her paws from the chemicals on the roads, and a coat because she’s small. The boots now protect her feet from thorns at our ranch. But costumes, I just don’t get.
