It’s fairly typical for girls to shave their underarms, but what about guys?
Sometimes I see a guy wearing a wife-beater, and he lifts up his arms and there’s armpit hair….and I’m not sure if I feel grossed out or “eh, ok.” After all, hair on the arms, legs, and chest is widely accepted and even “masculine,” but should hair beneath the pits be?
What do you think?

Doesn’t matter to me either way. It’s his body. I am in no position to tell a guy what he can and can’t do to his body.
guest
Men should not shave their armpits. And I wish women didn’t either- but as long as the vast majority of American women are keeping it up, then I will too.
guest
I personally don’t care. I mean as long as the guy looks after himself, bathes and stuff, then i don’t care if his hair-y. just like my guy doesn’t care for some of the things too.
I mean its his body, just as much as my body is mine. And with that we both have chooses on what we think is okay to do to our bodies. If a guy doesn’t want to shave his under arms then what ever, I for one I don’t find body hair as disgusting as i did when I was younger. Its natural, normal. and most of all there is a reason why your body grows it.
guest
I don’t care either way. Sometimes I like seeing the hair there, for some reason. This is coming from a girl who prefers less-hairy guys.
guest
i dont think i mind as long as he takes a shower a day and he doesn’t stink that much

If they want to. It’s not just a vanity thing, it’s a hygiene thing. It’s very warm in the pits & when you sweat, hair traps it in causing odor. I do it so I dont smell & I dont like the sensation of the hair rubbing up on my clothes. This may be just me, but I think armpit hair grows faster than any other hair on the body.
I dont mind a guy with armpit hair but when a dude lift up his arms & you see enough to braid it into a ponytail or a brush from the front lawn of your house pops out, that’s too much. No lies or exaggerations, I’ve seen it. If you wont shave it, atleast clip it….

This might be weird, but I’m okay with armpit hair. I actually like my boyfriend’s armpit hair. It just adds to his masculinity and his strength.

Maybe not shave, but manscape so that it doesn’t look like a shrub under his arm.

lol @ Wife beater… I got yelled at by my mother for calling it that, my mother says they got the name from racial stereo types… They are called A-Shirts… You can call it what ever you want though… I was just letting you know because I never knew what they were really called till I said wife beater in the store.
The only people who actually looked at me all dirty and mean were older woman… So I was like YIKES… and then my mother pinched me. I was like well how come you never told me this before!
As for men shaving there pits…? It’s up to them… My husband isn’t super hairy under his pit’s so IDK.

@xhalesx@revelife - agreed with the masculinity part.
i wouldn’t mind either way. their body, their choice.
guest
No. I like hairy guys
Not like, ridiculously hairy, but if you have hair on your chest and under your arms and down there, I like that.
Be a man. If you shave, your body resembles a prepubescent child’s.
guest
haha it’s funny, my friend and i were discussing this recently, and we both were of the same opinion: hairy/hairless chest, doesn’t matter; beards/stubble/shaven faces, doesn’t matter; but the legs, forearms and pits, au naturel.
guest
NO. NO. NO. NO
ANY MAN WITH SHAVED ARMPITS MAKES ME FEEL A BIT SICK.
guest
my boyfriend shaves his sometimes (he works out a lot and that’s why)
and he could kick pretty much any dudes ass.

Never encountered any guys with crazy armpit hair, thankfully.
rose / 786 posts
@Beb3Lika@xanga - I agree. My boyfriend used to be a swimmer, so he used to shave. I didn’t know him then, but had I, I wouldn’t have cared. I heard, though, that his legs looked better than most girls. I don’t know how I felt about that one….
guest
I think guys should at least trim their hair….it just looks gross. Women are expected to shave everywhere, so guys could at least shave their face and trim their armpit hair.
guest
i actually have no issues with armpit hair. even on women, i don’t really care as long as they don’t stink.

Nope.

Yes, that’s one thing I love about men here in Russia… they shave their pits! It’s so nice, so non stinky, and so appealing to not see an afro under their arms.
sunflower / 287 posts
I do for religious reasons.
orchid / 237 posts
I think their armpit hair is okay. I definitely prefer armpit hair to be at least a little groomed though.
guest
@xhalesx@revelife - lol
guest
Maybe just trim it?
guest
I would LOVE if guy’s shaved, or at the very least, trimmed their armpits. In Chicago summer, guys are either wearing a wifebeater, t-shirt or no shirt and I hate seeing crazy pit hair :[
guest
yes, no arguments!
guest
My boyfriend has like no armpit hair. LOL….
guest
I shave my pits because it’s more hygienic than not.
guest
Nice picture…Aaron Piersol. =D

@love_and_blackberries@xanga - I don’t care either way but that’s a real dumb reason to do something.
daisy / 696 posts
For the love of Jesus, just TRIM it. God above me. Don’t let it look like I need to take a brush to it every time you raise your damn arm.s
rose / 980 posts
It’s not that I like pit hair, it’s just that I probably wouldn’t like a guy who purposely shaved his pit hair.
cherry blossom / 49 posts
Yes please :3
Ewww, it’s so gross to see a man swimming with arm pit hair. Once they lift up their arms it looks like some kind on wet creature!
guest
I can’t lie in arms of a man who’s haired like a bear >< it’s really unatractive….
daffodil / 1615 posts
@Gotiffany - Hahahahahaha this made me literally laugh out loud when I read this.
I think as long as he doesn’t have manes of under-arm hair then it’s fine. Maybe a little trim wouldn’t hurt. But I think it would look weird if guys shaved their pits
guest
Haha… Well, as someone who has been a competitive swimmer for 17 years and someone who looked up to Aaron Peirsol (who is in that picture) as a childhood icon, I’m gonna have to go ahead and defend the armpit shavers of the world. Aside from the reasons that swimmers shave everything (significant reduction of drag), I find shaving to be a matter of comfort and personal preference. I have no shame in admitting how many times I’ve been turned on by a hot hippie girl who doesn’t shave anything… Nor do I have shame in admitting that I prefer to shave my legs and armpits. And for those of you who are so hell bent on sorting out the genders based on something as unnatural as shaving, fuck you all… My body is beautiful. And men and women alike can be beautiful with or without shaving. Self expression…
guest
I don’t shave my armpits, but I do trim them every now and then. I find that my deodorant works better when it’s on my skin and not my armpit hair.
guest
@ncxcorexkid@xanga - I don’t think it is- for some things that is. Something as quick, easy, and harmless as shaving my armpits really isn’t a huge deal. And by doing it like the majority of women in America do, I save myself a lot of grief in the form of comments and looks. If it were a bigger issue that really mattered, I would act differently. I pick my battles in society. To go against everything would be exhausting.
guest
@love_and_blackberries@xanga - I feel the same. :/ I hate shaving but I feel “social pressure” to shave my legs or armpits when they are visible. Guys are sometimes oddly not phased by armpit hair if it’s not crazy bushy, and one guy only complained when I DID shave my legs and the next day they were prickly (he preferred the grown out soft hairs) Go figure.
So yeah…I’m not a fan of massive armpit hair, but it doesn’t need to be shaved just…maybe tamed if you are really hair x.x (or at least kept clean, same thing goes for pubes).
orchid / 159 posts
My boyfriend trims. I think some is ok if it’s not showing when their arms are down.
guest
I prefer guys with armpit hair, it looks masculine to me. Although A LOT of hair is gross, and if they don’t know how to take care of it to make it not smell then they shouldn’t have it. My boyfriend is good like that.
He’s clean.
guest
@Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga - I think it grows pretty fast too. I gotta shave at least once a day!
guest
who cares what other people think, if you want to shave your armpits, shave it… it’s your body, you can do whatever you want with it… and it sure as hell doesn’t make you any less manly if you do…
guest
@MommyMarty22@xanga - rofl your mother pinched you for saying wife beater?
And I had never really thought about it before. I think of him as more masculine when a guy has armpit hair.
guest
Shave it off, or at least have it under something resembling control… >_>
guest
I don’t like armpit hair
guest
@anenigmaofsorts@xanga - I know right? I got dirty looks from all the older woman like I was horrible for referring to it like that… lol
guest
My boyfriend is like barely hairy at all so I don’t mind his since they’re barely any there. But if it was like big and thick like I’ve seen on some dudes, I think i would be kinda grossed out.
guest
Oh gawd yes. Yes, yes, and yes.
Have you seen those chewbaccas on guys? Not attractive.
I’d say trim them if mowing them down isn’t an option.
guest
manscape if he’s really hairy. no one likes wild shrubbery. otherwise, no.
guest
Nope, cause it looks more manly
guest
my boyfriend shaves his armpits…i refuse to rest my head in his arms with gross hair everywhere lol
sunflower / 432 posts
I think it should always be up to every person to decide what they want to do.
Personally if my boyfriend didn’t care about leg hair I’d only shave my legs like once a month when it started to bother me.I shave my armpits and shave/trim around my ladybits because the hair bothers me, and if a guy asked me to grow it out I’d be like uh, no. So I can’t very well expect a guy to shave his armpits just because I want him to. I like that my boyfriend manscapes though. Out of control hair down-under is offputting.
guest
Not as long as he showers on a regular basis.
guest
i think guys should shave everything girls do. i don’t like hairy guys.
guest
@Aaliyaan@xanga - Really?
sunflower / 287 posts
@mycontinuity@xanga - Yup. Muslims are very hygiene conscious so shaving armpit hair is a must.
guest
I am currently wearing a shirt I almost didn’t buy b/c I thought my ‘pit hair would stick-out…
Then decided if people wanna concentrate their vision there, why not give them something to look at?
guest
@Aaliyaan@xanga - Just armpit hair? What about private areas? Is it only for women, or must men do it too, and if they do it too, what exactly do they do?
sunflower / 287 posts
@mycontinuity@xanga - Well there are five things men must do in Islam: shave armpit hair, shave pubic hair, trim mustaches (if you have one), cut your nails and be circumcised. For women it’s trim your nails, shave armpit and pubic hair.
guest
Doesn’t matter to me. It’s the guy’s body. My boyfriend shaves his armpits. When I first found out, I thought it was weird. In fact, I still think it’s weird. But it isn’t a deal breaker or anything. He says he does it because if he doesn’t, he sweats really bad and it messes up his shirts.
guest
I like the hair
But my man used to be a swimmer so he had to shave everything for that…it was fine to…but guys don’t keep it up the way girls do….and i don’t like stubble.
guest
@Aaliyaan@xanga - Are you Muslim!!
sunflower / 287 posts
@follow_my_beat@xanga - Yes I am.
guest
@Aaliyaan@xanga - YAY MUSLIM POWER!
guest
My boyfriend isn’t hairy at all and it’s the best lol. He has only like a tiny bit of armpit hair so that’s okay but like the guys who practically have a bush under there gross me out so much.
guest
YES! Shave it boys!
