A few of my best friends from college live, literally, on the Jersey Shore. We would watch Jersey Shore at school, and they would all complain that it’s nothing like MTV portrays it to be.
They film most of Jersey Shore in a town called Seaside, which is really sleazy. It’s a more tourist-y area where all the “bennys” (anyone who isn’t a local that comes to Jersey for the beach, aka Snooki) go to the beach.
I went to visit my friends yesterday, and the real Jersey Shore is so beautiful! One of my friends literally lives 5 minutes away from the beach, and said beach is huge, almost people-less, and the water (although cold) was seaweed free. It was a gorgeous day, which we spent tanning and swimming. (Probably the only thing related to the MTV’s Jersey Shore is that the inhabitants of the real Jersey Shore are just as obsessed with being tan.)
Have you ever been to the real Jersey Shore? Do you live in Jersey?

What do you consider the “real” Jersey shore. Seeing as in there are like 100+ beach towns in New Jersey.

I used to live in New Jersey but I actually haven’t been to the shore that often, outside of visiting Atlantic City often.
That being said, yes, there are many towns on the shore and you know, it’s fun. It’s nothing like the show. (I never even had a guido/guidette friend living in New Jersey. All the Italians I know had families that immigrated from Italy, go figure!)

@Love_never_fails - yeah i was gonna say the same thing, what beach was it? i’m from NJ and i hate anything that has to do with the Jersey Shore BS with a passion. seaside has always been sleazy, and its just gotten so much worse since that craps been on tv. but which beach did you go to? my favorite is island beach state park, personally.

The funny thing about my experiences in New Jersey is that all of the guidos I’ve seen are actually Indian.

I live in Jersey and I’ve been going to Seaside since I was a little kid. Seaside Heights (between the boardwalks, where the show is filmed) is pretty trashy, but all of the beaches around it (seaside park, midway, island beach) are perfectly fine. the show gives it a bad rep and the boardwalk is now a lot trashier than it used to be.

It depends on where you go, because there isn’t a single Jersey Shore. The places I’ve been to were pretty gross though.

I live in NJ and I used to go down the shore a lot… (now not so much because I work all the time) I don’t think I’ve ever been to Seaside. Pretty much everyone goes there after prom. I prefer Point Pleasant Beach and occasionally Atlantic City.

i love the jersey shore, i go to avalon, ocean city and wildwood mostly.
people who have only seen the jersey shore on tv must think jersey is the dirstest place ever (in some places it is) but jersey is also has some of the wealthiest areas in the country…..avalon is the most amazing town :]

I hate when people trash Jersey. Most of the people who say it smells or that its trashy have only been to those places. When really, what state doesn’t have its good areas & not so good areas? Seaside Heights is probably the worst beach to go to. (Though I admit the boardwalk is one of the most entertaining) Belmar is my favorite beach that I’ve gone to. I actually don’t feel grimy when I come out of the water! XD

Point pleasant boardwalk is much nicer and laid back. Springlake, seagirt, belmar, avalon, long branch are all really nice beaches. If you wanna have the beach to yourself go to seagirt, the houses are gorgeous and the beach is clean and calm.

I’ve been to seaside before the jersey shore was a show and it was pretty scummy back then too. I live in south jersey and go to ocean city or wildwood beach and I love it. we are nothing like the jersey shore people… except I love being tan too! lol

I used to spend summers in Ocean Grove near Asbury Park when I was growing up. MAGICAL summers. It’s a Victorian town that has been kept up as such, and it’s so peaceful and beautiful. My memories are all of siting on the beach, eating frozen custard purchased from a vendor on a bike, getting yummy donuts with my grandpa on Saturday mornings, the AMAZING candy shop there, and the huge cathedral where they put on a kids play every summer. Seeing the hype around “Jersey Shore” now kinda bums me out- SO not my experience.

my heart beats for sea isle city

I’ve never been there, but I would love to visit some time. I’m fine livin’ in Oklahoma.

I am exactly like your friend I live 5 minutes from the beach in Seaside, but unless I want to be entertained by people acting like fools I know better and go a little up the coast to Lavalette or down to IBSP.
Also anyone who says the grew up in Jersey and “have been down to the shore” is a Benny. It is not necessarily a bad thing unless you act even the slightest bit like the cast of the “Jersey Shore.”
I love that you posted about my home being not so bad.
Also there is no doubting it Seaside’s nickname is sleazside!

I’ve been in Seaside Heights.
I love it so much.
