Her bag is totally big enough to hold my 6 go-to items and way more!
There are some things, over the summer that you just cannot leave home without. Because there is so much more free time and fluidity, we end up staying out of the house a lot more than usual. From one working girl to another, here are some staples to pack in your oversized tote bag before you head out for the day…because you never know where the night will take you. Here are some staples I never leave home without:
1. Toothbrush. No one wants to go to work the next morning with dog breath. just throw one in your bag and you’re good to go. Your best bet is to just leave one at home and one in your bag so you never have to worry about being without a toothbrush.
2. Underwear. Small, comfy, something you can wear with the outfit from the day before. Clean underwear is a must because re-wearing underwear is gross and can give you infections galore, and there’s no way if knowing if that underwear you washed by hand in the sink the night before will be dry come morning. Just pack a pair, keep it simple.
3. Mascara, non-powder blush and coverup. These three things will take you a LONG way when you wake up with that pimple or big bags underneath your eyes. A fresh coat of mascara will instantly make you look more awake, and the gel/cream blush will give you a fresh, morning glow (and can double as eyeshadow if necessary). If you don’t wear makeup at all, all the more power to you!
4. Cell phone charger. Unless you have the same phone as all your friends, just pack a charger. If you have an iPhone (lucky duck), just bring a usb cord to plug your phone into a computer at work the next day. Seriously, who wants to be left with a dead phone when all your friends are going out later that night?
5. Clean, wrinkle-free top. Wearing the same bottoms flies much more easily than wearing the same top — especially if you’re rocking a print or brightly colored top. Throw something soft (cotton, preferably — I love basic Alternative Apparel/James Perse tanks) in your bag so you don’t carry around a whole wardrobe, but don’t have to see the boss in the same outfit twice.
6. Deodorant. Do I need to explain this one?
The biggest trick here is to think ahead. Will you be going out the next night? Make sure you wear jeans/something night-appropriate when you’re leaving for the first night. Will I need to accessorize? Just wear the same jewels twice. Keep it all simple. I love awesome, diva outfits as much as the next girl, but those usually require planning and can be messed up much more easily than a pair of cute shorts or skirt paired with a basic tank.
What staples do you never leave home without, lovelies?

Sunblock/sunscreen

Yeah… some girls bash the medium/big purse… but my 10″x6″x 5″ bag can fit an entire outfit + basic toiletries without bulging awkwardly and isn’t even really an above average sized back.

& i think sunblock should be thrown in there somewhere, lol

Isn’t underwear pretty much a given in any season? Lol…

@ohforrealson@xanga - I think this is the most important one!

I thought this was for practical, everyday, I’m-running-errands type activities, not hardcore partying and walk-of-shaming.

Cell phone, mp3 player, bus fare card, money, chapstick, and whistle.
@ask_ashleyyy@xanga - I thought it would be too.

haha yeah this sounds like me last summer when i was a part time waitress and full time party-er… take a break whewww

I just bring cash, lip balm, hand sanitizer and my keys with me everywhere I go. I don’t usually wear makeup so I don’t need it. And I don’t go anywhere long enough to bring my friggin closet with me.
guest
@ask_ashleyyy@xanga - me too, lol. I was like “uh, this list is WAY different than my essentials”!
guest
Um, I don’t see why you can’t go home in the morning then go to work.
And no way would I lug all that around in a club.
The only things that are my staple in summer day time is suncream, water and tobacco

…What is this list and why does it exist?
orchid / 237 posts
Sunscreen, lip balm, powder, and a little folding hairbrush, definitely must haves

What good is a toothbrush without toothpaste?
This is more like a list for going home with a guy you just met at the club.

Cellphone charger and sunscreen. I can’t leave home without these 2 items.
guest
I thought this was going to be a “this is what I keep in my purse” kind of post. I don’t keep any of that stuff with me, ever.. but I don’t go out random places and not know where I’ll end up, so whatever. If I end up sleeping over somewhere, I usually know SOMEONE there and just borrow someone’s face wash, sleep in my clothes, and go home in the morning. Voila.

… you know, not everyone does the slut walk of shame every day. i’ll opt for living a less trashy life where i don’t need to carry panties around “just in case.”

@KickDrumHeart@datingish - My sentiments exactly.
I have sunscreen and water.
tulip / 6 posts
@too_pretty_to_die@xanga - yeah, luckily I haven’t done a “slut walk of shame” before. I sleep at my boyfriend’s and my best friend’s a lot because they both live about an hour closer to where I work.
guest
i thought sunscreen would be number 1
the items on this list are not just for summer

This list should be called: “5 things you should take with you when you’re planning to go home with a random guy”. Not summer stuff, unless you’re just naturally more promiscuous in the summer. Summer is more like this:
Sunscreen, water bottle, SPF lip balm, ponytail holder, bathing suit, some kind of portable snack.
@ask_ashleyyy@xanga - Me too. I feel a little sluttier just reading this.
guest
Why do I feel like so many Lovelyish posts are trying to teach me how to be promiscuous? There is never a time that I leave my house that I don’t know where I’m going to spend that night (barring a disaster like a car accident).
guest
First one I thought of was sunscreen! haha
guest
cheers to being a summer vagabond.
there’s nothing wrong with unexpectedly being out all night.
often it’s just with friends you just didn’t plan on staying with.
couldn’t have composed this list better.
+tampons, a comfy sweatshirt, and a couple dollars cash for all night diners that don’t take plastic.
guest
Chapstick, hair tie, sunscreen, phone..
I don’t go anywhere that would make me not be able to go home, but if I was going to the beach then, yeah I would bring a change of clothes so I don’t have to ride all the way home in a wet sandy bathing suit.

@WaitingToShrug@xanga -
This list should be called: “5 things you should take with you when you’re planning to go home with a random guy”
YES! Omg, yes. XD
guest
@misslei11@xanga - LOL, I just realized that I accidentally typed 5 instead of 6… that doesn’t change my point though!

Carrying that stuff with you doesn’t mean you’re a slut and going home with a guy. Christ people, get over yourselves. If you have a long commute and lots of shit to do, or take an unexpected road trip or something, this is all stuff you might want just in case. I always always ALWAYS have deodorant, sunscreen, my debit card, water bottle, and all my meds for night and morning in my purse because I work and go to school full time and sometimes practically live out of my car. And you never know when life might take you on a little mini road-trip either :D
guest
Wait…this sounds like a simplified over night bag, not essentials for going out and running errands. I mean come on the first thing says TOOTHBRUSH: “No one wants to go to work the next morning with dog breath, just toss one in your bag and good to” (Not verbatim) Well if you are already at home wouldn’t you just brush before you leave and keep a pack of gum just in case.
The way she describes the necessity of some of this stuff sounds like it’s for a jst in case you stay the night else where or have a one night stand, not things to have in case you need to freshen up while out running errands. Most of it anyways.

notice: NO READING MATTER! be sure to bring nothing to read!

@corpsegutted@xanga - Same here.

This is a good list for when you go hang out with a guy, and spend the night, which happened to me last night. I didn’t bring anything though because I hate assuming a guy is gonna let me crash next to him.
orchid / 196 posts
A bathing suit.I ALWAYS keep one in my truck.
tulip / 6 posts
@needmoreink@xanga - I’m so with you! life’s about going where it takes you. If I get an invite to Bonnaroo last minute, I’m going! Plus, I live an hour from the boutique where I work while my boyfriend lives 30 minutes. I need my sleep.
guest
I don’t get these comments saying this is promiscuous stuff. As if no one goes on mini-vacations over the summer. I would definitely include these things in my bag, especially if I’m the kind of person that spontaneously decides to go to a party at a friend’s beach house an hour’s drive away from home. (And I am.) No sex need be involved.
dahlia / 2103 posts
@scroger92@xanga - Exactly! Spontaneity is one of the best things about summer
