A group of Pennsylvanian eighth graders on a field trip in Baltimore last week enjoyed a nice lunch — at Hooters.
According to Newser:
The Berwick Middle School students were visiting the National Aquarium last week. Chaperones took them to various restaurants for lunch because the group of 100 was too large for a single place. The Bloomsburg Press Enterprise reports Tuesday that one group of 15 to 20 students ended up at Hooters.
No parents have complained yet, apparently. One thing’s for certain: those 8th grade boys must have been like, “BEST. FIELD TRIP. EVER.”
Do you think it was appropriate or inappropriate?

A lot of people argue that Hooters is a normal, family restaurant. I’ve never been, but I know a girl that worked there, and I can pretty much assume that it’s not a family restaurant.

Wow there was one careless chaperone
guest
@KickDrumHeart@datingish - agree some people would say its a family restaurant
Some can even argue that they’re just for the food (lunch hour) / convenient location (due to tight schedule)
guest
I don’t think it did any damage to the children but it was DEFINITELY a poor choice on that chaperone’s part. If I were the parent of one of those children I wouldn’t make a huge deal out of it but I might let the school know that it’s not the most appropriate place to be taking them for lunch.

idk what the big deal is. They’re just girls in tanks, shorts, and tights. I’m sure they’ve seen it before.
And they have pretty good little boneless chicken wings..
guest
I’m sure what they wear used to seem scandalous… but it’s practically normal clothing these days. Not for me… but whatever. Their food is amazing. I kind of want to go now.
orchid / 179 posts
Bad chaperone, but the girls don’t really show that much. Those middle schoolers will see less clothed women at the pool than at Hooters.
And in their defense, Hooters does have really good burgers.
sunflower / 397 posts
That’s inappropriate for 8th graders.
guest
I’ve still never been to Hooters! And these eighth grade boys got to go? So unfair!
guest
Well…..it’s not like it’s strip club.
lily / 5148 posts
I’ve been there before…but I think in this case, the chaperon wasn’t taking care of the kids or doing what he was suppose to do. It’s really not that bad as people make it out to be. I’ve seen way worse in video games and movies etc;
guest
It’s just for food. Personally, just the idea of Hooters kind of turns me off. Even if they have good food or the girls wear “average” clothes, to me, I would rather someone just put on a shirt to serve me.
guest
Inappropriate. The girls may be dressed and not all that revealing, and the food may be good. But given the idea of what they look for in staff and the name of the place – I don’t care how ‘family friendly” they claim to be.Id be the first parent to stand up and complain. Of all the places they can go, why Hooters? And Id never apply for hooters either. I hear the way men and boys talk about that place. It’s a favorite place to eat at by many people I know, and I certainly would hate to hear people talk that way about my daughter or myself. No judgement on the girls who work there. I’m sure they are nice. As I’m sure the girls are who work at the little espresso stands where they wear nothing but bikinis and lingerie . But no matter how nice the people are, you won’t see me there. And I would never work in such a place. It’s not the kind of attention I want.
guest
You’re kidding? That’s hilarious. But bad…very bad… HAHAHA.
sunflower / 257 posts
sets bar up high for field trips for the rest of their highschool life lol..
in all seriousness though, on one hand, I don’t think it was that big of a deal. It’s just a restaurant, and I’m sure boys have seen more scantily clad women. On the otherhand, given the reputation of the restaurant and the connotations that come with Hooters, I think the chaperones should have been more sensitive to the location choice.
guest
I live near Baltimore city, and I remember on one school field trip we were downtown for something, probably the aquarium too and I remember a few boys bragging about going to Hooters to eat. This group definitely isn’t the first to do it, just the first get noticed.
guest
Who cares? I mean like the kids haven’t seen more skin at the beach? In this day and age, you don’t have to go to hooters to see girls dressing scantily.
daisy / 599 posts
Considering they are that young, I would say it’s pretty inappropriate. They should have made other lunch arrangements. A sack lunch if anything.
guest
They’re 8th graders. Who cares? They see that stuff on TV all the time.
sunflower / 366 posts
They didn’t go on a field trip to Hooters, they ate lunch while on a field trip. BIG DIFFERENCE! Who cares? These kids are in the 8th grade, they see more skin watching TV after 11 o’clock.
guest
Hooters is just a expensive hamburger joint when I was a kid on roller skates car hopping we didn’t wear much more than that
guest
lucky little kids,
guest
I don’t see an issue. If minors are allowed into such restaurants, then school children should be allowed.
guest
Berwick is like 20 minutes away from where I live. LOL
guest
I see people reacting negatively to the IDEA of going to Hooters. But I haven’t heard one person object because of anything that happened. If something had happened that was bad, then an argument could be made for not going. But since nothing bad happened, nothing was even seen that isn’t seen everywhere, I don’t see what all the fuss is about.
I don’t believe in forcing behavior just on a principle when nothing could be stated as to even what might happen. (I wish our government felt as I do and get out of governing us in our bedrooms.)
guest
eh, it wasn’t appropriate for a SCHOOL function, but the place isn’t all that bad. its girls in tanks and shorts. thats about it. it should be up to a parent whether or not they want to take their kids into an establishment with the kind of reputation that hooters has. i wouldn’t have any problem taking my kids there.
guest
Well at least they found a place to eat, and I think that’s legit.
rose / 802 posts
Whatever. I ended up at a Hooters during a high school trip because there were so few restaurants in the area. It was fun!
guest
Haha, I live in Berwick.
It’s just a resturant… the waitresses are covered. If people gets dirty ideas in their head then that’s on them. Don’t see anything wrong with it.
guest
My sister is in eighth grade and went on a class trip to Baltimore. While at the harbor her and her friends also went to Hooters. I guess it is the place to go because most parents wouldnt allow their kidds to go there so when they have free reign they go.

I actually live pretty close to Baltimore and am familiar with the Inner Harbor area. There aren’t too many restaurants in the pavilion where the Hooters is located, and if it’s a busy lunch hour, then spaces are going to be even more limited. While I don’t particularly condone taking 8th graders to Hooters on a school-sponsored field trip, I do understand the limited availability of seats in the other restaurants could play a role in the chaperone’s selection.
guest
Inappropriate… No lie, if I was a parent, I would have lost my mind. Of course, I’m against Hooters in general. I’m just saying, if your food is good, you don’t need to shove tits & ass into men’s faces to peddle it.
guest
I think Hooters is disgusting.
guest
who cares. It’s a family restaurant. Right?
guest
It’s not like they had lunch at a strip club.
sunflower / 432 posts
Inappropriate. Taking a bunch of kids to a restaurant that objectifies women? Classy.
I don’t care if they pretend to be a family restaurant. My family has more respect for women than that.
hydrangea / 59 posts
I haven’t been to Hooters but I hear it is actually not that bad and is like a family place….hmmm.
guest
I wonder how the girls in the group felt. :O
guest
The third girl doesn’t even have that big of breasts! I don’t think it was all that bad. In fact, I think it’s hilarious.
guest
I think it’s fine. It’s a little bad judgment on the part of the chaperones, but it’s not like they went to a strip club. It’s just a casual restaurant where the uniform is tanks and shorts. I know a lot of people who just go for the wings.
daisy / 568 posts
Really? Most schools start sex education in the 8th grade so it’s not bizarre. They got food and boobies, good deal in my book.
guest
Horny teacher?
guest
I’m from PA and when I was in eight grade our field trip was to Baltimore to see the National Aquarium also and my mom and a few other mom’s took a group to Hooter’s just like this post. I was even in a Catholic private school at time. I’m twenty one years old now, and looking back I didn’t see anything wrong with it at the time, I had actually been there before with my family and I’ve gone back multiple times since. Maybe its just the way my friends and I were raised, but to us Hooter’s isn’t a big deal at all.
guest
Very inappropriate. I would have been livid if the school took my kids there. I refuse to go there simply because they objectify women for their breasts. Hardly family or child appropriate.
guest
Of course it’s inappropriate. Otherwise, why would you even question it, if it’s obviously ok? You only question whether or not things are inappropriate if they most likely are.
guest
I have no problem with it, I’ve been there and seen customers that had less on then the waitresses. Some folks are just ashamed of the human body for some reason. If it was a strip club, then maybe I’d understand the whining.
guest
eh. It is bound to happen. They do have good food but i don’t think it is a “family” restaurant.
Then again when i was in 8th grade we ran around the aquarium by ourselves and could go where we wanted to go for lunch, but there is a whole mall next to the aquarium with a food court so they could have done better then hooters.
Plus, woman use their assets to get work and everything else these days the only difference is the girls at hooters know what they are doing. Its not like they are stripping. jeez. :/ if ppl want to complain about hooters. Write Vegas a letter for whoring out their girls. They have less clothes on then hooters girls….seriously.
guest
Neither, I think it’s hilarious. lol
orchid / 129 posts
Just some juvenile adventuring. Calm down.
guest
I thought Hooters was a family restaurant, what’s the problem?
guest
that is so sick…
guest
@rhea - boneless chicken wings that gave the young boys bone… never mind :]
guest
so this is actually from my local newspaper…when i read it i didn’t see the point (it was on the front page…small towns lol.) most of the high schools around here go on the same field trip to baltimore, and they tell us we’re not allowed to go to hooters, but when we get there, pretty much every group goes to hooters. they can’t really control 20 groups of hyper middle school kids in baltimore. yes, it is inappropriate if it’s a strip club. but it’s just girls in shorts and tank tops. i’m sure it’s nothing they haven’t seen in school anyway.
guest
Their BBQ sandwiches are amazing.
I don’t see what the big deal is. It’s just Hooters. At least the kids didn’t end up at a strip club like Lady Godiva’s.
guest
@PervyPenguin@xanga - It’s turning into one. Men used to go there to look at tits and get some buffalo wings and a beer. Then they started bringing their girlfriends. Now I see whole families ~ including babies and small children ~ eating there.
orchid / 209 posts
I think that it’s inappropriate simply because the way they propose women to be. What they want in a employee is very superficial and it doesn’t put a good influence on children. “This is what we desire in a female”. It was very irresponsible for the chaperon to do. I find it hard to believe none of the parents complained.
guest
@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - For the Nth time!

I had a couple friends that took me to Hooters once. Another family was there and they had a really young daughter, and what looked like an 8ish year old son, and it was his birthday! And all the Hooters girls surrounded his chair and sung and he started crying! Don’t take small children to Hooters! I was 18 and I wanted to leave

“Field trip to Hooter’s.”
Who runs these blogs?
You guys take things so out of context it’s not even funny anymore.
guest
13yr old boys at hooters? Although it is a tad on the innappropriate side, i think its getting way too much press. Like someone else said, its not like its a strip club, and im sure the boys have seen more at the pool.
guest
Hahaaa. My school did the EXACT same thing (and I’m from northeast Pennsylvania, too)! We took a trip to the aquarium in D.C. in 8th grade and went to Hooters for lunch because all of the other places were crazy busy. Not really a big deal.
guest
i just lol’d
guest
I don’t understand why anyone would get offended about this, or why any parents would be upset. It’s not like it’s a freaking strip club. Oh no, they’re wearing shorts and tank tops. Have you ever been to the beach?? Do you know what a bikini is? Do you know what google is? These kids have definitely seen worse than some hot waitresses.
guest
So a bunch of 13 year old boys that discovered porn 2 years ago went to hooters on a field trip? Sounds like a classic story for parents and prudes to freak the fuck out about, but there isn’t any real cause for alarm.
guest
Dream big.
guest
i’ve always wanted to work at hooters once in my life. lmfao.
guest
I think it’s inappropriate because the parents of those children might not think it’s a family restaurant. And also, it’s not just boys. Girls were there, too.
