No longer should one-pieces to be looked upon with disdain and categorized only as “old lady” beach attire to cover up the excess. One-pieces are officially bringing sexy back (even better than Justin).
Welcome to the “monokini,”aka the sexy new addition to swimwear this season. Check out this little cabana party monokini from Guess (who happens to have an amazing and affordable collection this summer).
With it’s floral pattern and flirty design I would definitely sport this suit on the beach.
Or even this unique crochet monokini that can be bought here. It’s currently on sale for $129.90 (originally priced at $220)
Designers have combined the sensual allure of the bikini and the traditions of the one-piece to create these masterpieces. They have completely dispelled the “dowdy” stereotype and turned it into something everyone wants to wear (yes, for once the desire for the one-piece has spanned across age groups).
Rachel Malouf, designer for Brisbane swimwear, puts it like this, “I try to keep as little fabric on the one-pieces as I can, but still covering up as much as needs to be covered. They’re definitely very sexy.” And right she is. See for yourself in this zipper monokini from Macy’s (which is on sale btw).
The versatility never ends. Now the style is throwing a pair of cut-off denim shorts and a flirty one piece making a look that will be sure to turn heads.
Is this the new hot look for the summer? Would you wear one of these sexy one-pieces? Or is it, once dowdy, always dowdy?

No to the first and last one. Yes to the middle floral one.

No thanks, I don’t want some odd pale line down the middle of my stomache while my hips are beautifully bronzed. But that first one is pretty.

These are pretty bad one-pieces imo. One pieces are the most flattering for most peoples bodies

yeahh they’re cute but your tan lines are going to be anything but .

The crochet one is hideous. Looks like Grandma knitted a lingerie teddy.

Yes, I would so wear them!

I could see myself wearing the first one to diversify my tan lines. I’m outside a LOT once it’s warm out, and it’s useful for me to have different styles of suits to keep the tan lines less “obvious.”
That said, I’d never go with one of these suits if I didn’t have multiple others. I like my bikinis too much.

My butt sticks out too much for most one pieces, there’s always this weird air bubble that forms in the small of my back, then there’s the issue of tan lines. I am loving that crochet one, though!

I like monokinis but I only liked the one in the picture. They give me a chance to wear a bikini and hide the vertical scar on my belly.
All of the tan line comments crack me up. They remind me of the time that my friends and I got these tan through swimsuits (I don’t know why I got one, and you gotta love the glorious 80s). Sunburnt nipples hurt, but none of us had tan lines. (I can’t believe they still make tan through clothes)

i hate one piece bathing suits like that. Swim dresses are more sexy in my opinion.

hmmm still… depends on the piece they cover : )….

The floral one and the one from Macy’s are super pretty.

Aren’t these more like monokinis?

Why does sexy have to mean bare? There are some cute and sexy actual one pieces.

STOOOOPID… I don’t understand how/why everyone equates “sexy” to “let’s wear less and less and less…”
WHat the heck? I can be VERY sexy completely clothed.
SEX and SEXY is about confidence… if you don’t have it, you can be a size two, and walking around naked and used up a lot…:P

I have a vintage style black one piece that I think is very sexy. i dont like seeing people’s boobs and stomachs flopping around anyways. plus i spend my summers in asia where they’re more conservative…

idk…they just look dumb to me. Just go with a two piece or a full one piece. This looks like it will flap around and give you bad tan lines.

I love monokini <3 I fell in love with a Guess one

The first one looks like an extreme wedgie.

They would leave some funky tan lines… especially that third picture lol. The floral one in the second picture is really cute though.

theyre cute but if you wanna tan it doesnt seem too practical… imagine the tan line right down your tummy.

@usagiidesu@xanga - haha read this right after i just posted mine… that was my first thought when i heard about monokinis. that crotchet-y one would be like tiny cheeta print all over your stomach… theyre cute though, if you make sure to load up on spf stuff, or if you dont tan.

These are pretty on the models (what wouldn’t be, honestly?) but seem pretty impractical. I know of some places that sell REALLY cute and sexy suits that are actually one-pieces that cover, like normal, and they are still very attractive. I’d want a swimsuit that I can actually swim in without being afraid of the strips covering my boobs would slip a few inches sideways….that would be my biggest concern buying a monokini, but then I’m not really interested in showing my tummy right now anyways lol

I think this kind of defeats the purpose of the one piece. Most women that I know who wear one pieces wear them because they don’t feel confident in a bikini, or they want to be a little modest. These swimsuits leave as little to the imagination as a bikini does. Though I guess for fashion purposes they are all right.
Furthermore, I’m intrigued by swimsuit models and their desire to grab at their own hair.

where the heck do you get the first one? i so want it.

Man, that last one heads straight into Slutville, USA. The first just looks like toilet paper cleverly configured. However I do agree that the second one is pretty nice looking.

I’m pretty dowdy so I wouldn’t say those were one pieces, but they are cute. I especially like the third one.

I want the first one! I’m a serious sucker for monokinis, I love that they’re different. What brand is the first one? where can I get it?!

In the last 2 years, I have become a huge fan of 1-piece swimsuits. I love them. Some of them take off like 2 inches around your waist line. It’s like wearing a gurdle, but very stylish. I love that.
