Splendid news, all. Today I decided to go shopping and I came across the most beautiful linen blazer (ABOVE) from Alice + Olivia. Even though I knew it was going to be horribly expensive, I was unable to help myself, as the beauty of the blazer drew me in like a large science classroom magnet.
First I felt the fabric; it felt fantastic and soft, and the shape of the blazer was perfection. I looked at the price tag and the blazer was….gasp!….only $89! How on earth could a blazer that is regularly priced at $535 be only $89??
I found this lovely little piece at a consignment store. Now some of you may be saying, “Gross, I don’t want to wear clothes that somebody else has worn.” Maybe so, but I’ll give you a quick hint about consignment stores. If you go to a very high end consignment store (similar to the one that I went to today) the clothes are in absolutely mint condition. Even if the store isn’t selling Chanel and Valentino (which by the way, I tried on a pair of beautiful Valentino pumps today and nearly died.) they examine the clothes before they are sold. Point blank, I doubt a good consignment store will sell anything that isn’t in anything but perfect or nearly perfect shape.
(The shoes I bought today look really similar to these)
Sometimes, if you’re lucky, the consignment store will sell NEW clothes with the same consignment discount. That’s what happened to me today, chickadees, I bought my Alice + Olivia blazer brand new, but for 83% off! I also bought a pair of really beautiful mystique sandals for about $40, which are normally over $100. The consignment store I went to today is called Roundabout, and there are multiple locations if you want to check it out (I highly recommend you do). If you live in the Connecticut area, there is one in Westport and another in Greenwich, and there are two in Manhattan in Soho (115 Mercer Street) and on the Upper East Side ( 31 E 72nd St btw. Madison and Park). Trust me, I’ll be back when the back to school shopping season comes around.
Do you ever shop at consignment stores?

People who think previously owned clothes are “gross” crack me up.
Like… don’t you ever borrow your friend’s clothes? Do you really think she’s never sweat in them? Or gotten anything unspeakable on them?

I love consignment shops. I bought a formal dress that was originally $1200 on sale for $39 (the original price was $200). That dress was cursed because the original owner never wore it b/c she got pregnant. I also ended up getting pregnant and never able to wear it. I think people lump consignment shops, second hand stores, and thrift stores all in one category. I don’t have a problem with either kind of store. It is just easier to find great stuff at thrift stores.

used shoes can be gross due to possible contagious foot fungus, but steam cleaning it will probably work. I have one pair of vintage shoes though. I’ve bought plenty of used/vintage clothes on ebay and my mother was grossed out, because she said that I bought “dead people clothes” or some sellers might’ve sold their parents’/grandparents’ old clothes, etc, but I didn’t care. I excitedly tried on the dresses and twirled around when I got them and the possibility that it was taken from an actual corpse or still living old smelly person previously owning the clothes wasn’t a problem at all
anyway some sellers dry cleaned the vintage or new old stock clothes. I mostly shopped on ebay for vintage finds, because bidding can sometimes bring better deals, but it depends. I’ve also purchased vintage jewelry. I think Ross has some good deals from some designer brands.

Theres a consignment store right next to where I work but their stuff isn’t the best… they mostly just have stuff for around the house anyways.

Meh. I’m not big on consignment stores… and Plato’s Closet smells. I’ll stick to my Chicagoland TJ Maxx’s… just bought a pair of Stella McCartney jeans for $40… yeah, $500 jeans for $40. Brand new. (:

There aren’t any consignment stores that are close enough for me to go to, I’ve been to a couple but they’re out of the way… never found anything worth getting.
I love TJ Maxx, lol. And the little boutiques that are near my campus and in the mall – the places that have like 3 or 4 of one item… bought a dress for $26 at one of those places the other day. So cute. (:

@PiNkLaCe8691@xanga - I live close to the loop for school, and love this consignment shop http://crossroadstrading.com/used-clothes-stores/chicago/lincoln-park/. There’s a wicker park location as well, depending on where you live. It definitely doesn’t smell and I’ve found a few great things. I would go more if it wasn’t a good 20 minute bus ride.

@Vintagesque@xanga - Hmmmm. I’m in Lincoln Park a lot, a lot of my friends go to DePaul (maybe where you go too?). I’m working full time in the Loop anyways so it’s pretty convenient. I’ll check it out. Thanks. (:

@PiNkLaCe8691@xanga - I go to Moody actually, not that far from De Paul though.
