I’ve always wanted a pair of Tom’s, but I’ve never gotten around to it. Now that I’m sure I want a pair (and have the funds to do so), I’m worried that they aren’t cool anymore.
I know, I know, it shouldn’t matter– if I like them (and can afford them) I should get them, plain and simple. But for some reason it’s really important to me that if I buy these shoes that I’ve wanted for years, other people are still going to appreciate them and not just write it off as me following some hipster trend.
So, how many of you still own Tom’s? Have you bought a new pair recently? Should I get some?

Yes they are. And if you’re over the age of 16 you should stop freaking out about what others think about your style.
If you like them, get them.

I know tons of people who still wear TOMS. It’s an awesome cause, and i don’t see them going out of style any time soon. Don’t worry about what others think. Just be who you are, and reflect it by the way you dress. You were born an original, don’t become a copy!

Yes, they are.
guest
Definitely get a pair if you find one you like, it’s for a good cause. Who cares if it’s in or not?
They’re also really comfortable in my opinion.
guest
Never heard of ‘em, and I live in the biggest hipster cities in the country…
guest
Wear them. Why are you so fucking brothered by a trend? a lot of the style’s out now are influenced by a tread. :/ Which means they will go on forever. and if your buying a plain pair then you have nothing to worry about. :S
guest
They did become a trend, but becasue they have a good cause behind them, I would still get them. They look great with skinnies.

I love Toms, I want a pair so badly!

Toms started out being a vegan thing, and where I live it’s back to being a vegan thing already. If you don’t like to nom your fuzzies and don’t feel like wearing them in any way then get a pair. Otherwise, skip it… the fad is over.

I think TOMS are super cute – my mom owns a pair! Payless also sells very similar shoes, and those proceeds also go to a great cause, but they’re not as nice-looking. I think you should buy them!

I have no idea what those are. But I live in freaking Iowa so that’s not surprising. I don’t even know if there are any hipsters within a 500-mile radius.

I think they’re cute. I’ve thought about buying some too

There is no point in caring about what people think unless you’re going to work or something. Otherwise it will just drive you crazy and you can’t please anyone in this fucking world. If you like them, wear them. I personally don’t see the appeal of them but we all like different things for a reason.
orchid / 145 posts
I own a pair because 1) they are for a great cause, 2) they are super comfortable, and 3) I think they look cute. I have never once thought about how people might immediately label me as a hipster just because of those shoes. Even if they do, so what? People everywhere are going to judge you no matter what you do – that’s just human nature, and if you always worry about what people might think of you, you can never enjoy life. If you like them, just get them! I change my style daily (from what people might judge to be hipster, rocker chic, gangster, Asian, punk, etc etc) and I’ve never let others affect my choice of clothing one little bit. I wear what I like and I think looks good and that’s it. What is most important should be what makes YOU happy and what YOU think of yourself.
guest
don’t buy the shoes. not because TOMS are lovely, but going off the way you wrote this post and the fact that you’re worrying they’re not cool anymore when you haven’t even bought the damn things…imagine what’ll happen everytime someone looks at your shoes, or near your shoes. you’re going to feel nervous they’re judging you and your shoes, and feel uncomfortable. doesn’t seem fair to set yourself up for that.
guest
I don’t own a pair but my roommate recently got them. If you like them, you should get them. Forget everything else.
guest
I absolutely love my TOMS. And considering the fact that they donate a pair to a child in need for every pair sold, who cares if other people think they’re cool? It’s a good cause.
guest
They’re nice looking (imo), comfy, and for a good cause. Why do you still care what other people think or worry about what’s popular? Do what you want.

If you like the way they look then get them. o-o I bought my pair a little over a year ago. I’m kind of annoyed that it has become a lame trend as my gay friend pointed out xD, but it is for a good cause.
They are soooooo comfy!
Honestly, I never even thought of them linking to hipsters, so o-o that puzzles me.
guest
yeah this is a really lame post for a sophomore in college…………… why do you care.
oh and here in mississippi, toms have gone from hipster trend to tween wear. especially the glitter ones. meh
guest
People don’t buy them coz they’re “cool” – people get them coz they are comfy and for a good cause. Who the fuck cares if they are “cool” or not?
guest
I bought them when I was on vacation because walking in my flats were killing me. Personally I think they look like slippers.. but they’re for a good cause and they’re just sooo comfy. My boyfriend hates them. He thinks they’re ugly.
If you like them just buy them. Who cares what people think. They do stretch btw.
guest
what are toms?
first thing that came to mind…was tom-cat. >.>
guest
No, Toms are NOT hipster. My room mate and another friend (neither of which are hipster… AT ALL) wear them and they look cool on them.
guest
i think they look UGLY but that’s my opion. i would still wear my nikes even if someone said they are ugly. so if you like toms, why don’t you buy a pair? don’t care if they are cool or not … YOU should like them.
guest
Aren’t you a sophomore in college? Time to grow up and not give a fuck what people think about your damn shoes. Who cares if they’re cool or not, as long as you like them that’s all that matters.
orchid / 129 posts
I’ve never heard of them.
So, I guess. Hahah.
guest
I have about 5 pairs. <3 Planning on getting another pair soon, too. :] I actually see a lot of people around my city wearing them, and not all hipster kids. I think you should go for it.
guest
Wait, when did TOMS shoes become a hipster trend? They’re meant to be for a good cause not to be a trend at all. Buy them if you want to help children in 3rd world countries get shoes and you like them. If anyone gives you crap over them, educate them on the organization behind the shoes. The shoes have been around for a while now before hipsters anyway.
guest
I have a pair of toms, I got them because I liked them.. I don’t really care what other people think or wear. I got them because they fit me.
guest
Perhaps, but who cares? If you like them, get them! Not getting them simply because they’re in style is almost as silly as getting them because they are in style.
guest
TOMS are the comfiest shoes I have ever worn. They’re amazing, cute, and so comfy! Everyone compliments me on mine and I love them. Believe me, they’re worth the investment
guest
Bought a new pair a couple weeks ago. They are sparkly. They are just now coming into style in my town. Super comfy & and you can wear with a lot of stuff. Smart buy:)
guest
just the way you wrote this post makes it obvious that you care waaaayyyy to much about what other people think. stop that. its dumb.
buy what you like cuz you like it.
fuck everyone else.
tulip / 12 posts
icky ick. they look like slippers. go get some cute flats or sneakers
guest
I feel like… it’s ok for it to be a trend! If its spending money for a good cause… then it’s a good trend to spread. :]
sunflower / 405 posts
I still wear converse.
They’re really popular because they donate a pair to a child in need everytime someone buys one. SO GO FOR IT!
guest
I think they’re a trend.. not a /hipster/ trend (I don’t even get what “hipster” is), but people try to justify it by saying a kid that needs shoes gets a pair too. Naah, it’s just a trend with a good cause attached.
Ps, aren’t we too old/smart to care what other people think just because we do something, especially something like buying a pair of shoes? Yes, we are? Good.
daisy / 502 posts
Frankly speaking, you’re too old to base your actions off of what others might think of you.
guest
yes, but i like them, and it shouldn’t matter
guest
I don’t know if they started off that way, but it has become very hipster trendy.
guest
I personally don’t see them as hipster or trendy. I just always thought the cause behind them was good. Never owned any though.
guest
I didn’t realize they were a trend…. I’ve only seen one other person wearing them ever.
That being said, I wanted some for a long time and was promised a pair for my birthday from my ex. That was one of the many promises he never followed through with… But anyway, I went for my birthday this year and bought a pair. I love them! To me, it’s not about being trendy, that’s for sure! I love the One for One thing they do, and the shoes themselves are SO comfortable. I’m definitely getting more when I need new shoes!
guest
Research the cause behind them and then you’ll think of it every time you wear them. I do, and it makes me thankful that I got them and for what I have. If you’re so worried about shoes being a trend, you probably need to think about the people who don’t have any. Buy them just to give to a needy child if that’s the case.
guest
I have 3 pairs, and my reasons have very little to do with trends…I have size 11 feet and they’re one of the only major shoe companies that carry my size…they’re very comfortable as well. The fact that they’re popular is awesome, but I would wear them regardless.
guest
toms are basically cloth on a piece of cardboard.. i’m not so sure about their claim of if you buy a pair, they’ll give one to someone in need.. i think that only works online.. because stores dont report back to the companies on how much they sold.. just how much they want for their inventory.. anyways i think it’s just a hipster thing.
i prefer my nike air max or lunarfly and glides over anything else(:
guest
Those shoes are actually quite comfy and go well with almost any casual look, so go for it :3 it’s a good cause. But if you look around well, you might find other brands of the same Toms look for cheaper. I have one real pair of Toms and another brand that looks just like it in a different color (: enjoy your new shoeeees when ya get ‘em!
guest
I think instead of thinking if they’re “cool” or not you should think about the cause. If the cause isn’t that important than I would suggest finding shoes that are like the TOMS shoes you like that won’t cost you so much. I personally would love to buy some for myself and the kids because of the cause.

TOMS are too mainstream to be considered a hipster trend…
guest
I love my TOMS! Go for it!
guest
i really like Tom’s shoes because they are so colorful and, yeah, simply soo damn cool..
but here in germany these shoes are not available in any store.. ARG in these situations I hate living in germany :$

They’re for a great cause, but I think they’re incredibly awful.
Buy whatever shoes you want, I don’t think anyone here gives a shit.
guest
LOL. They are expensive? I remember when they were 15 bucks and only the old lady’s wore em…
guest
Well, I actually just bought two pairs today ( 5/25/13 ) So I guess they are still in style. Im about to be in seventh grade, and everyone else at my school still wears them. As lots of people know, middle schoolers are always up to the style!!!
