Yesterday morning I looked out my window only to be greeted with rain pelting against my windows.  Since my office is pretty laid back, I knew it was going to be a comfy clothes kinda day.

As I was driving home from work yesterday, Ryan Seacrest was on the radio telling his listeners there might be an item of clothing hanging in their closet making their fight against flab even harder.  Of course, I needed to know if I owned the piece of fabric that was keeping my body from being covered with minimal body fat.  Little did I know, I was actually wearing the couture culprit.

Thanks to their versatility and level of comfort, leggings are a staple in the wardrobe of many women, but according British newspaper the Daily Mail, they’re also the reason why some women have a hard time getting their bellies and legs slim

The reason?

According to London physiotherapist, Sammy Margo, the clothing celebs like Lindsay Lohan and Victoria Beckham favor, is doing the work for your body.  “They hold in and support the quadriceps (thigh muscles), buttocks and core muscles in your tummy, and do the job the muscles are supposed to do,” Margo said.  As self-confessed leggings wearer, Margo also said the leg huggers “hide the bits of our bodies we don’t like… so we are able to ignore the problem and we are less motivated to exercise these parts.”

But not everyone is convinced it’s the clothing’s fault for not being in shape.  Weight loss expert Dr. Jana Klauer said it’s no one’s fault but your own when it comes to getting in shape.  ”If your stomach and legs are flabby, it’s because you’re eating too much or not exercising enough,” says Klauer. “Leggings don’t affect your legs positively or negatively — they’re neutral,” Dr. Klauer said.

I’ll admit when I wear my leggings, it’s on days when I don’t feel like squeezing into a pair of jeans and when I’m looking more for comfort than style.  But at the same time, it motivates me to work out, because who wouldn’t mind looking a little slimmer in something that’s clinging to your body?

Do you think leggings make you flabby?  Are there certain clothes you wear that make you motivated to work out?  Are their certain clothes that make you look and feel awesome?
