It’s not just the corsets that are considered fashionable, but it’s the form of body modification known as waist training that’s freaking me out. Also known as tight lacing, waist training is a form of body modification to reduce the size of the waistline to a certain desired result. This is done by using a tightly laced corset, it’s most common in women and was made popular during the Victorian ages.
This is one of those things that I never understood the appeal of. It almost kind of irritates me. The way I see it, the female form is already perfection the way it is. I like the look of corsets worn into outfits, but I don’t understand it for the purpose of changing your waist shape. I mean, women look great naturally!
And I think that all women should feel curvy and gorgeous no matter what their body proportions are!
… but then there is this.
To me that just looks unnatural and proportional, but maybe that’s just me. What do you think, Lovelies? Would you ever try waist training? Which look do you think is better?
guest
it looks uggerz. body modification is only good if it makes your titters big

I like corsets. Mattering on the style. and what they are made out of it. and if they are properly made or not.

Not everyone wears corsets for body modification. I’ve done so for Halloween costumes and for my husband, but none were for the purpose of modifying my waist. I think they are incredibly sexy and that’s how they make me feel. If people use them for modification reasons, that’s up to them.
guest
I wish I could pull off a corset. I love them
guest
Looks painful.
guest
I love corsets! But my waiste have never been cinched to look like THAT.
I don’t think it’s possible even if I tried.
guest
That just looks like it hurts sooo bad. I would never wear one of those.

Ads for corsets are staring me in the face.

I love them; but not for body modification.
guest
Lots of people saying it looks painful… it’s absolutely not painful at all. <3
rose / 802 posts
For body mods, they’re simply AWFUL, scary, unnatural.
sunflower / 392 posts
I love corsets, but I wear them out for fun, not to modify my body. I’ve also never cinched my waist as tightly as in the last pic.
guest
dita looks very hot
the latex thigh highs on the VS model are hot. I think fetish clothes is hot. corsets are like pushup bras just add more appeal to the body, but that depends on preferences. I have corsets but I don’t cinch my waist to an extreme. I wore a tight corset before and I walked like a robot
ok for maybe an hour but anything more than that is exhausting, but I think these females gradually cinched their waist and trained themselves to adjust their body, so that it doesn’t hinder their breathing, etc.

uh… I wear them all the time for historical costumes.
My waist goes from 28 to 25 inches (which isn’t a lot, but there isn’t a lot to squish either). I wear Victorian, Elizabethan and 18th century (Marie Antoinette) costumes for events ALL the time. The trick is to know your limit and follow corset protocol: Eat food, drink lots of water, continue to eat food while wearing your corset, don’t drink too much booze and use the buddy system.
I’ve been wearing corsets for costumes since I was 15 or so. They really aren’t that bad if you know how to wear them. And sure, some people go to an extreem, but not all corset wearers do.

ah, sheesh. Gross. Corsets look cool, but, like with everything else, there are extremists…
guest
Ugh I don’t like the body modifying aspect of this. :/
But my friend has a corset-inspired shirt and it looks awesome on her! (without looking like it’s choking her)
guest
Corsets are really unhealthy for you. I’ve looked into them. They move your organ around. I like the look of them but I would probably never wear one.
guest
Sometimes it looks cool and I don’t believe it is wrong but I am not crazy about body mods in general. By just looking at me people are surprised I don’t even have tattoos or piercings. I just personally don’t buy into the whole idea that you have to change your natural body so much just to be happy with it. It just seems counterproductive to me. But I’m only talking about the people that have real body and image issues. Not people that wear corsets for fun sometimes and have a few body mods.

I think fake corsets are cool, as in the ones clearly utilized only for fashion purposes and not for making your waist noticeably smaller. I had a ton when I was in high school and still have them in my closet :)
guest
i don’t see why corset body modification is any worse than other modifications. i’d rather see someone walking around with a super skinny waist, than a hole through her ear that i could stick my thumb through.
guest
I hate that I love the look of corsets!
guest
I though the cinched waist was taking a break. Idk what’s in style in anyone else’s book, but in my book and in most of the fall 2011 runway shows, it’s loose fitting and flowy ftw.
guest
I’ve had people ask me if I do waist training due to the natural size difference between my hips and waist. It is nearly a 13 in difference, I have a very small waist and upper body, but large hip bones and also carry fat around my hips.
The first time someone asked me I was so puzzled, I was barely 18 at the time. I’ve had a few others ask me over the years if I do this, but I just explain it’s natural and I’d never even consider it.
guest
I like the stylish aspect of a corset, but most definitely not the ones that make you look 6 dress sizes smaller. It’s not only disturbing, but I imagine it’s very uncomfortable.
guest
@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - Please tell me that was sarcasm. ‘Cause if it was, that’s hilarious.
I’ve actually just ordered a “real” corset to start waist training. I have huge hips and a decently sized chest (34DD, but my hips are HUGE in comparison), and a naturally smaller waist (there’s a 13inch difference between my hips and waist and around a 9 inch difference between my bust and waist) , but I would like a little more contrast and definition. Most people that currently waist train, to my knowledge, don’t go to the “extreme” and aim for say an 18 inch waist or anything.
Just like anything else, it’s in the eye of the beholder. I personally like body modification, and have a few tattoos and piercings myself (including stretched ear lobes), and plan to get a lot more, and to ME that is what looks good. Other people think I “look like a Ubangi” (I think that’s spelled wrong), or not beautiful at all. But that’s not what matters, because I do it for MYSELF, not anyone else.
And THAT’S what true beauty is. Accepting yourself, even if you have to change a few things, and even if they are not exactly socially accepted.
guest
I like the fashionable corsets, not the ones for the purpose of modifying the size of your waist. I don’t think that’s healthy for your internal organs.
guest
None of the pictures shown, that’s for sure. What about normal weight women who appreciate their natural body shapes without feeling a need to modify those shapes through anything but healthy eating and exercise? Just a thought.
guest
I love corsets. Love the idea and the function of them. If I weren’t poor, I’d buy one.
guest
Corsets cause birth problems and breathing difficulties in women.
THE MORE YOU KNOW.
guest
@sgdreams@xanga - Do you have any pictures? lol I swear I’m not a creep… I just admore piercings and tat’s. IF I wasn’t such a sissy I would get some… lol
guest
ew? waists that small just make you look creepy
guest
do you actually consider the model on the runway to be curvy? im only asking because i’m confused.
guest
I don’t mind the modern take on the corset style, but waist training is a different matter entirely. Victorian women were physically weak, had trouble breathing, and fainted frequently because of the tight lacing of their corsets and maiming of their bodies. I’m not surprised if we’re trending back that way. Treating women as objects to be deformed at will is something that never completely goes away, unfortunately, even among women.
guest
ohh la la!!!
guest
actually, theres a difference between fashion corsets and waist training corsets. corsets for fashion rarely have more support than wearing control top tights.
i have three fashion corsets and two authentic ones [which have more support than fashion, but not permament body altering like waist training corsets]
guest
@staygoldenbesafe@xanga - http://www.corset-story.com/ i just bought a corset and a skirt/pettiecoat thing for $47- including postage/shipping. i highy rec’ them.
guest
I love the corsets that aren’t meant for cinched waists but the ones that cinch are wast are dangerous from what I’ve heard doctors say.

I like the way corsets look (guy’s perspective), but right-angle curves are a bit bothersome. Not attractive to me.
guest
Holy crap, how would you breathe with a corset pulled that tight?!
sunflower / 316 posts
@The_Tudor_Rose@xanga - This. I’ve done it in order to have a historically accurate (okay, to a degree… there’s only so much a corset can do if you’re not waist training) silhouette when wearing period costumes. I have been tightlaced before, but never regularly for the purpose of modifying my body, and it’s not painful or uncomfortable, it’s something that takes getting used to, sure.
guest
i love corsets. but i dont wear them for body modification.
guest
You need to find a better “curvy” picture. That girl strutting the runway is not CURVY, she’s what I’d call skinny or thin.
guest
i wouldn’t do it to an extreme.. but i would like more curves.
guest
I love the corset style (especially in the bedroom), but I wouldn’t want it to alter my real shape. It looks awkward.
guest
I enjoy the feel of wearing a corset: I feel more attached to reality, more grounded. I guess it’s the constant pressure. It’s nice and calms me down. Plus, it helps my back pain (my back brace looks like an ugly corset anyway)!
I like the look of corsets, and I like the look of a smaller waist, but not disproportionately so. Studies have shown that, for attractiveness, the ideal waist/hip (WHR) ratio is .70, and, not surprisingly, that is what looks best to me.
My measurements are 38-27-38. My WHR is nearly a perfect .70, and I receive compliments (both genders, various orientations) about my shape.
If you want to “train your waist,” go ahead! However, don’t feel like you have to; trends are often not worth following.
guest
It’s just an old fashion fad. Corsets aren’t ‘back in style’, they’ve always been around. They’re not apart of our culture anymore so no one’s really going to go back wearing them in earnest. Back in the day they were used mainly for breast support for women since there weren’t bras- corsets were bras- but now that we’ve got what we have today, corsets are unnecessary so don’t freak out over it, sheesh…

I love corsets, and tight lacing isnt so bad so long as they dont go too far, there is one lady that made it into the guiness worlds records for tightlacing (15 inch weist, Cathie Jung) but its hideous and caused her severe bodily damage.
daffodil / 1525 posts
That is pretty creepy-looking.
guest
I would do it but i loved the victorian ages
. I love corsets.
guest
I like corsets. But it depends on the material and how well it’s made.
lily / 5148 posts
@Cambios@xanga - That is a thought
@Pickwick12@xanga - That is sad if we are going back that way.
OP:
Waist training is freaky (and probably not healthy) because people go to extremes with it.. It’s moving organs around..>.> Even though it can be used for fashion. It reminds me of the foot binding that was done in China. Not pretty either.
guest
I love wearing corsets. The body modifying part doesn’t really appeal to me.
They show off my curves and make me look damn sexy.
guest
back in Elizabethan times an incredibly thin waist was desirable. Some women would starve themselves and reach the point of fainting while wearing corsets. So I agree, it’s incredibly unhealthy and looks scary.
But there are some corsets designed to fit the body the way it’s meant to be. I like those corsets =]
guest
I think women wearing corset styled tops is hot. I don’t like actual corsets for the same reason I don’t like spanx and I don’t like women with plastic surgery, it is not just about vanity it is about a psychological issue that one is trying to avert dealing with and just taking the easy route. There will always be something sexy about a woman in a corset and a garter belt though.
guest
@too_pretty_to_die@xanga - This made me laugh. I agree completely.
sunflower / 405 posts
Maybe not everyday. But not like those. Maybe like the ones Keira Knightley wore in the pirate movie and Kate Winslet’s in Titanic.
guest
maybe i’m the only one not understanding this, but are you using a damn victorias secret model as how ‘great women look naturally’? that’s not how 97% of girls look. i’m 103-105 lbs and i still don’t look like that. i don’t have the gorgeous long torso and not that flat tummy either. and she puts a TON of work into how she looks, it’s practically her job to work out and eat right. -_-
guest
I do corset training, I find it to be very uplifting
I’m all about body modifications in general if its something that makes you feel more attractive to yourself, its a natural human thing that has been around longer than many of the things we consider to be normal body modifications. such as shaving one’s legs or even probably brushing one’s teeth.I don’t necessarily recommend it as a normal practice for anyone just like I wouldn’t recommend breast implants. But between the choices corsets if done correctly are far healthier than plastic surgery.
also, that model in the picture is NOT what the average woman looks like naked, and corsetrey is a very effective way to improve one’s figure.

@x0_electric_kiss@xanga - I used that photo as a way of showing off how great natural curves can look, and they don’t have to be so extreme. Of course I understand many women don’t look like that but that’s not what I was trying to convey.
daisy / 599 posts
@waifpunk@xanga - Yes I think she has awesome curves. They are natural and sexy.
daisy / 599 posts
@mypandabear@xanga - Are you serious?
guest
@MissAshley - Yeah. I mean, she’s not emaciated or anything, but she’d definitely qualify as thin.
daisy / 599 posts
@MissAshley - Oh I see what you’re saying. I don’t like to associate “curvy” as being big in overall size. To me it’s more about having a defined shape between your bust-waist-hip ratio.

I’ve said before and I’ll say it again. I love corsets but the new use of training with this is…very disturbing and sickily. For pete’s sake don’t they have problems in their digestive track by doing this kind of abnormality? Don’t they have trouble going to the bathroom?!
