According to NBC, Yahoo! searches for “What is Prince William’s last name?” have risen exponentially in the past week. Because really, why would anyone care about that at any other time? Well, Lovelies, worry not: you won’t even have to type it in to Google to find out the answer to this question!
Although he is usually referred to as “Prince William of Wales,” William does have a last name, just like the rest of us commoners. And that last name is Mountbatten-Windsor, a name given to all decedents of the Queen. Although the name is not usually used publicly (because well, why would it need to be?!) it is listed on official documents.
Kate Mountbatten-Windsor? Hmmm…
The next most Googled question: “Who is Prince Harry’s Father?”
What do you think, Lovelies? Was the last name as royal sounding as you expected? What would you rather it have been?

I thought this was common knowledge for everyone….clearly not.

I wonder whether Kate will keep her last name or change it.

@fields_of_sunflowers@xanga - I thought so too.

i’m laughing at “Who is Prince Harry’s Father?” i think kate should keep her own name.
and ditto, @fields_of_sunflowers@xanga.

That’s only their last name because they had to change it during the war. The British royal family are actually German..

I laughed at the fact that people didn’t know his last name, until I realised I didn’t either.! Honestly, I thought everyone knew that the Royal family’s name was Windsor, but the ‘Mountbatten’ bit is actually news to me.
I’m not surprised about the ‘Who is Harry’s father?’ question, considering he’s the only ginger in the family and Dianna was having an affair with James Hewitt, haha!

I actually didn’t know about the Mountbatten part, just thought it was Windsor :p

@anotherdreamwasted_onyou@xanga - the royal family is British, they were born in England, but their heritage has a mixture of lots of European, not just German. They only took out the German because Germany bombed London, but they are not predominately German.

@anotherdreamwasted_onyou@xanga - The European royal families were also constantly interbred, they are all related in some way basically. Bloodlines don’t really mean anything. Not only that, but the British and German people are largely the same racial stock.. all came from the same tribe anyways

Yeah but so much for good old British tradition they may be British because they were born in Britain but they are not 100% British blood. @Amayahuu@xanga -

@anotherdreamwasted_onyou@xanga - I don’t think you really understood what I said…
Germans and British are the same racial group Many Europeans are like this. So, all British people and all German people trace back to the same group. It doesn’t make sense to hold it against them, because who in Britain has 100% British blood? Nobody. There really is no such thing.

Actually, both him and Harry use “Wales” as their last name in the military – it says so on their uniform sleeves.
