New York Magazine believes that in an effort to fight the flak they’ve recently been receiving for insanely skinny model Candice Swaenpoel, Victoria’s Secret is now promoting photos of their new, curvier model, Kate Upton (above).
Apparently, Victoria’s Secret is trying now trying to emphasize that their bras and panties are not only for thin girls, but are for all girls. They are not trying to give the impression that they “promote ‘too thin’ body types.”
If you ask me, this girl is still pretty skinny. But I admit she does look a lot healthier than Candice. What’s interesting about Kate is that she’s only 18 years old! …and has recently been featured in this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
The Herald Sun comments on VS’s new model and states a hope to “a return to an original roster of curvy models that made the brand so famous.”
What do you Lovelies think of Victoria’s Secret’s new model, Kate Upton? Do you think she’s too thin still or a better representation of the American female figure?

ummmm. where are the curves, again?

I agree, shes still skinny..but..progress at least? lol On a side note..She does not look like shes 18…I was guessing like 22 lol
guest
She’s still relatively thin…
guest
But, aw! In the last picture she looks like Brigitte Bardot. Very cool.

yum!

She’s still quite thin. She’s beautiful but I don’t think it would make people feel that their lingerie is for “all women”
orchid / 118 posts
this is not a curvy woman. she looks the same as all the other
guest
if by “curves” they mean “has big boobs,” then yes, she has “curves.” otherwise, she looks just as thin as any other VS model.
daffodil / 1601 posts
Size does not=curves. Proportions=curves. Believe it or not a size 2 can be curvy. What determines curvaceousness is how much you go in at the waist and how much your hips and bust go out from the waist. So yes, she is relatively thin, but I do think she is curvy (especially in the blue and white stripes).
Where it gets confusing is when they mention they want to show they’re under garments are for all sizes. That’s when a plus size model would make much more sense, lol.
guest
I think she looks good and healthy.
guest
I wouldn’t call her curvy, but who cares, she is still beautiful and looks pretty healthy.
orchid / 156 posts
you see her fake boobs too.
guest
I don’t agree with some people that think that some companies/designers should cater to all body types and personal sensitivities of feeling left out. the tall and skeletal straight figure of high fashion models are ideal for catwalk modeling because they are practically walking mannequins that display clothing, because curves would be too distracting if you see their booty bouncing around with the fast pace that they strut. the thin, slightly curvy and toned bodies of victoria’s secret models look ideal for swimsuit/lingerie modeling and lacey lingerie and other provocative outfits is also about fantasy, so having the surreal looking thin bodies and photoshop work done, is fake, but that is what apparently sells. do a majority of men fantasize about woman of the average american size or thin toned side when they picture a woman wearing lingerie? some might, but I think they just like big boobs and big butts, so if she is thin with a big booty, great, or fat with a big booty, probably great, too. if the woman’s significant other thinks she is beautiful, then who cares about not fitting into victoria’s secret lingerie. most men that I asked prefer all naked than dressed up but I can’t speak for others. fuller figures or bigger boobs won’t really find their size there, but there are other brands that carry plus sized under garments. you can’t make them all happy. if their company feels that this image is what they want to represent their company, then that’s their choice. I wouldn’t mind seeing bigger framed bodies like beyonce’s body that is curvy while toned, although she still doesn’t represent the average american woman, who might not be as toned.
daffodil / 1525 posts
She’s actually curvy, meaning she has curves, not the widely-misconceived/associated “plus size”. That said, I assumed they meant plus size when I opened this and saw the pictures and lol’d. Not an improvement if they’re trying to branch out, but I do like the new model. She’s hot
guest
she looks really beautiful
guest
She looks great but as many mentioned above…. where are these curves? If they get a woman with a body like J.Lo or Kim K then I’ll agree. This girl though looks like a normal girl. -_- So to speak.
sunflower / 392 posts
I think she’s hot.
guest
agreed that she’s not plus sized, and not incredibly curvy. but yay for a vs model who actually has boobs and isn’t all skin and bones. i think she’s really pretty and has a great body.
guest
All the VS models have curves. I don’t get why people think curves=fat. It doesn’t.
guest
in a google search, there were 13,300,000 results for “plus size lingerie” with plus sized models that are bigger than this model, so they are just trying to give VS a hard time or ruin their rep somehow because they are discriminating when millions of others carry plus sizes. VS chose not to go into the much larger plus size and probably lost some revenue, but the fashion industry is competitive
tulip / 17 posts
I see the curves. Muffin top!
guest
Is this a joke? So they hire someone who wears a size 1 instead of a 00 to show how they cater to all women? I’m not saying they had to put a plus size model up, but come on. I also don’t consider this girl curvy. Curvy to me brings to mind women like Beyonce, JLo, Kim K, and even Kelly Rowland.
guest
The bone is for the dog and the meat is for the man!!! This woman is still a bone!!!
REAL women have curves!!!
guest
wow if this is curvy then im morbidly obese .
guest
I won’t lie Kate Upton looked much cuter doing the dougie than in these photos
guest
1. She is not curvy. 2. She looks 26. That is all.
guest
@bAbiiExxPiNay@xanga - exactly.
guest
@SpOnTaNeOuS_sPiTbAlL@xanga - Totally what I thought.

damn if shes curvy i must be a frikkin elephant. i mean i dont really see anything different from any of the other models. they all have big jugs, a nice butt and no tummy… whats different bout this?
guest
Looking better, but I wouldn’t call it curvy…
guest
Now they should start making bras for people who have bigger boobs then DD…just saying. Lots of us wear DDD’s, F’s, G’s, etc.
guest
What? Is she a size 0 instead of a 00? I really don’t see any curves. She’s skinny, but at least she looks healthy and naturally that size.
guest
I think all of their models are curvy…lol. She doesn’t look any different to me.
guest
Curves? I don’t see any.
daffodil / 1525 posts
Curvy =/= plus size. Seriously.
guest
ugh she barely has hips!!! but still looks healthier than others iv’e seen and she’s gorgeous
guest
@SpOnTaNeOuS_sPiTbAlL@xanga - oh thank god someone else said it too. I was looking at her and thinking that nothing about her even suggests the word “curvy.”
guest
@omgroxie@xanga - lol. I know. I’m only a DD, but it’s like they make their bras for women that don’t have natural boobs. Need a 28 DD, no problem. Need a 42 DD, you’d better go somewhere else.
guest
Uh, yeah, not “all girls” unless I don’t count.
Last time I was measured for a bra there, not only did the lady lift my shirt up in the middle of a busy store (I have weird stretch marks all over, rapid med/illness weight gain possibly mixed with horrible hormonal imbalances, they don’t look like normal stretch marks, more like I was mauled by a bear at some point in my life. don’t really like people seeing, and plus I’m just fat) but they also did not have my size bra. I forgot what it was, and don’t care to go check, but it was disappointing. I loved their bras while I could wear them. But yeah, hardly for “all girls” unless bigger girls somehow don’t count. I mean, I’m overweight, but I’m also hardly the absolute fattest girl ever. So saying that VS is trying to emphasize their bras and panties for ALL girls sort of leaves out a chunk of the heavier end of that scale, and we’re no less of girls simply because we have a little extra padding. Js. (Also gonna note I haven’t check their online stuff, but then, I don’t count simply only selling the bigger sizes online as emphasizing anything. Almost all sorts banish the plus sizes, if they’ll sell them at all, to their website only.)
But then, I have never seen a VS model without curves. Boobs and butts and hips, those are all CURVES and they HAVE to have them in order to model what they’re modeling. I don’t see how this is shocking or new that they have a model “with curves”. The way I see it, they all do, they all have to. It’s part of the job.
I suppose it’s nice that their new girl is ever so slightly “curvier” or has more meat than the others, but then, really, I don’t see such a drastic difference. She’s still pretty thin, if I had to guess, probably within the lower half of her healthy BMI range. She’s still pretty thin I would say, and so it’s not a drastic difference. It’s almost insulting that people start implying they’re emphasizing their products for ALL girls because they get someone a size, maybe two bigger than the models they usually have. That definitely doesn’t really make them cater to /all/ girls suddenly.
Last time I check, I’m still a girl, and I assume they still do not carry my bra size in their stores. Js.
I really don’t understand this post. It seems like the main points were that they shockingly hired someone with curves (which all their models appear to have) and that now they cater towards /all/ girls which I assume has not suddenly changed overnight and is still not really true. So this post is a little strange.

She’s not “normal” in comparison to what women refer to as curves, but VS models (except the new ones like Chanel Iman and Candice Weirdlastname) are usually curvy in comparison to runway models.
dahlia / 2747 posts
her body is the same as every other vickys model… why are you being so dramatic with the gasp…
guest
She’s only “curvy” in all the right places (boobs and ass)..
guest
Albeit she’s skinny, she is still “curvy”. I would assume curvy implies you are not rectangular shaped from the front, back, and side views.
daffodil / 1615 posts
@omgroxie@xanga - They should also stock stores with bras that fit A’s instead of just selling them online so that some people like myself aren’t resigned to only buying from the Pink line. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I can actually fit something there, but I want something a little more…mature. And I don’t want to have to do my bra shopping online and risk having to return/exchange.
rose / 903 posts
This still is not an accurate portrayal of a real American woman…
guest
I don’t know if I would consider her curvy. She has a big chest, yes, but she doesn’t really have an exentuated waist. She’s a little apple shaped. There are tons of other pictures that show what I’m talking about.
I’m so tired of “curvy” meaning having big breasts. It means the curves of the body; like the waist, hips, and thighs, not just breasts.
daisy / 599 posts
@KickDrumHeart@datingish - Was she supposed to be? The average American women is terribly overweight, out of shape, with awful eating habits. I would hope that we don’t have models who represent that and encourage that unhealthy lifestyle.
rose / 903 posts
@MissAshley - No, she’s not supposed to be. That’s why she’s a model. Still.. if a girl sees this girl and thinks that’s what curvy is, that’s not doing much for her self image.
dahlia / 2103 posts
@ohhpanicc@xanga - Same here…that is pretty much what I’ve concluded about all women in any magazine anywhere. Ever. Most of the time I try to ignore it but sometimes it’s difficult when from every direction you get bombarded with “visible ribs = the only way to be.”
guest
She’s still pretty skinny. Even though Victoria Secret is such a success no matter what thewir models look like; I think they would get so much more business and more appreciation by using real girls and women. I know models are generally 5’7 and taller, but why not put somebody 5’1 and curvy. Somebody with a little bit more fat on their bones. I’m not saying somebody obese, (no offense to anyone) but someone who’s healthy looking.
dahlia / 2103 posts
Everyone has different definitions of curvy, everyone has different definitions of the ideal attractive body, blah blah blah blah. She is more curvy than all the other VS models I’ve seen; 90% of them look too skinny for my taste, but I think she’s hot! I’ve given up on the idea of plus-size models being accepted mainstream. It just isn’t going to happen because there are too many people out there with sticks up their asses and elitist “skinny-only fashion” attitudes, and too many people who equate plus-sized with obese and unhealthy. Uh, guess what: in a healthy weight range, I could still be a size 10/12 at 5’10″ and be healthy, even though that is considered “plus-sized” in the fashion world, thus making me a cow and unhealthy. Fuck the whole business, whatever. It gets very old very fast and the best standard to measure against is your own (although it wouldn’t hurt to just accept other people in the process instead of finding ways to cut other women down).
guest
where are the curves?? this girl HAS curves. She has a butt and boobs and isn’t unhealthy skinny like women these days try to be which is ridiculous. This girl actually looks healthy which is good.
guest
Sexy!
guest
She looks exactly like every other VS model I’ve seen, body-wise.
guest
bonerific!
guest
where is the curve? honestly,
VS isn’t for chubby girls.. they tryto make it seem like it is, but it’stargeted towards smaller figures.
the model still looks skinny as shit.
guest
@Murphy_Rants@xanga - I agree. She does have curves, but i would like to see someone a little thicker and a bigger size. No one has any reason not to love themselves the way they are, and I think the media should portray that more.
guest
@XoAsianBabioX@xanga - Exactly. They always use the same type, and she’s no exception.
guest
LOL she’s not curvy, she’s thin as hell.
guest
Remeber this?
and
guest
Oh, it doesn’t allow me to post pics, but it was Marilyn Monroe in a bikini, and she looked far from that shit above.
The one thing I like about VS though is that they have a relatively large selection of sizes on their website.
guest
She looks healthy….. but this whole curvier thing… not really, looks the same as the other models.
guest
@Murphy_Rants@xanga - Precisely. I was like, “hey! My body is shaped like that and I do in fact have curves! Just ’cause a person’s skinny doesn’t mean they can’t be curvy.” And exactly partaining to the nonsensicle-ness of having such statements and still using skinny models.
guest
I like her. And she looks way older than her age. And I agree with the person who said she looked cuter doing the Dougie. But she still looks great. Also, compared to the other girl, Kate Upton is fucking huge.
guest
@SpOnTaNeOuS_sPiTbAlL@xanga - SERIOUSLY!! I was thinking the exact same thing! She looks no different from Adriana Lima and Tyra..
guest
She doesn’t look any more curvy than any other VS model…
guest
Bunch of crap if they think a woman like that is considered curvy. Ridiculous.
guest
I don’t think she’s too thin… She looks like most of the other VS models, actually… Although I’m not entirely sure that’s really a good representation of the vast majority of women… It’s alright with me, though. I love their stuff!
guest
oh my god she has an ass and thighs . ahaha .
guest
Yeah she does look curvy. I agree with the 8th comment up there, “Size does not = curves.” They are two different things… she’s thin with curves o.0 Which isn’t bad. But curves are not all they’re cracked up to be. This is decent, but if they want to give people the idea that they can accommodate women of all sizes, they need to vary a bit more…
guest
She looks healthy and she is gorgeous.
guest
she’s gorgeous, but they certainly haven’t changed who they’re marketing to. the difference in her body does not make that leap from ‘our products are for skinny girls’ to ‘our products are for girls of all sizes.’ at the same time i can’t say that i personally am offended by that. i look NOWHERE near as fabulous as she does, but i still wear VS
guest
if she has curves, then i must be obese.
orchid / 164 posts
@ohhpanicc@xanga - agreed.
she’s perfect, but i guess that’s why she’s a model. do you really think victoria’s secret is going to hire anyone less than perfect? that’s not what real women look like, not the MAJORITY of women i should say.. victoria’s secret sells “sexy” wear this bra and be “sexy” wear these panties and be “sexy” only “sexy” women shop here, or “cute” or “hott” girls.. victoria’s secret isn’t a cheap place, it’s $50 a bra and $15 for a pair of lacy panties… they’re not selling the every day comfort. they’re never going to have a model that’s above a size 4, and that’s not a representation of real women… but seriously, majority of women still shop there. you look at the magazines and think “i wish i looked like this” and then i guess you buy the sexy undies, hoping you look similar. i don’t really know how this works, but i mean.. common sense should tell you what to expect from VS…
guest
Since when does curvy mean fat? Sorry, but my cousin [a size 2] is one curvy li’l bitch, and she is skinny as all hell. You can be skinny and have amazing curves.
what you guys are looking for are fat fucks who represent the “average American size” which is at a ridiculous all-time high, with cringe-inducing stomach fat and thighs that chafe… etc.
stop being asshurt that she’s got a small waist and large hips/bust ratio, and go fuckin’ ride a bike for 30 minutes and put down the damned twinkies. YES some people are of a bigger size [myself, though I have gotten to a size 1 before] but then, I’m not getting asshurt because I wear a size 5 and eyecandy models are a size 2. If you ain’t eyecandy, you ain’t eyecandy. You’ll still get your fucks and your sucks, but you just ain’t eyecandy)
guest
lol i was wondering where the curves are..i still think normal people still have that lil tummy that she doesn’t have
guest
Why can’t all chicks have bodies like this? HOT!
The average American girl looks like moo and oink.
guest
where are the curves. this model is skinny as fuck
guest
Both of the women are curvy, one is just a tiny bit more curvier than the other.
guest
I think she looks great! Very healthy and a more normal thin.

Beyonce’s curvy. This ain’t.

She is definitely curvy! She looks healthier and realistic!
daisy / 507 posts
she doesn’t look curvy nor thin (: she looks good
guest
curves? what curves?
guest
The new model suffers from ‘noassatall’ syndrome, it appears. I consider a butt to be part of being curvy. Adding a pair of fake boobs to a thin girl doesn’t make them curvy, just because they’re hips go in a little bit. Some above said JLo and Beyonce for curves – I AGREE! Those are curvy women, without being ‘plus sized’. Granted, I do like Victoria Secret because it’s the only place I can find bras in 34DD, but I don’t like their prices nor their idea of what a woman should look like. I’m traditional though – I like my women to look like… women. You know, with good-sized breasts and butt, not like flat little boys.
I will give VS credit though – this is a step in forward, but I don’t think VS needs to be advertised to normal sized women if they don’t want to advertise to them. They have a target audience, and that might NOT be normal sized women.
guest
are they for real? she’s not “curvy” in the way you meant it. she’s still skinny, almost no one on the street looks like that.
gorgeous though, hot as shit lol.
guest
people are still saying, “real women have curves”? honestly? so, what, if i happen to born a naturally skinny girl with a fast metabolism i’m not “real”? can you possibly be more rude and obnoxious? every women is a real women. it doesn’t matter if you’re a 00 or a 20, you’re still a woman.
i agree with the person who said curvy is about proportions (bust to waist to hips). curvy doesn’t equal plus size. people often use “curvy” in place of plus size because curvy just sounds nicer. but this model looks like the other model, erin. when i think VS + curvy i think of adriana lima.

@bAbiiExxPiNay@xanga - Agreed.
And come on. They’re MODELS. Just because they’re skinny means you think Victoria’s Secret’s bras/underwear/clothing aren’t going to fit you? Eh, no. They make their things in very many sizes and Victoria’s Secret is actually popular for offering the variety of sizes that they do.
If I thought I had to look like every model I’ve seen for every store I shop at, I would never buy clothes.
guest
This worries me if people actually think this is an improvement. She probably weighs 1 lb more than the other usual models. The world needs a reality check.
guest
Their models in the 90s had curves. Then they went stick figure. Now back again. Noteworthy supermodels are Laetitia Casta, Tyra Banks and Heidi Klum.
guest
They all have curves. They’re just not the same body size.
guest
She has more meat but still in the skinny range. Beyonce has curves, this model has more meat. That is all.
guest
@SpOnTaNeOuS_sPiTbAlL@xanga - yeah i agree, i think she looks great but i was expecting something different than this haha
guest
curvy does NOT equal fat. Come on, people.
guest
yes, she is CURVY, as in she has boobs, a waist that goes in, and hips that go out. however, she is still very thin and therefore does not represent the (unhealthy, obese) majority of america.
hence, she will still get hate from those who are insecure.
guest
she looks healthy….its sad that most american women consider this “too thin” and “not realistic”. We lower our health standards to please ourselves and make “bigger women” feel comfortable in their….lets face it….not so healthy bodies. shes gorgeous!
guest
She looks pretty healthy, and she doesn’t look too skinny… she looks about the size of that most woman want to be. she’s actually, gorgeous.

she’s no Rosie.
sunflower / 448 posts
@bAbiiExxPiNay@xanga - Me too! I totally don’t understand why this word has been hijacked! (Probably in an effort to self-comfort?)
I think she’s lovely!
and VS doesn’t NOT cater to all women. Most bras only go up to a 40 D or DD. I used to work there, and it was sad when I had to tell 44+ women trying to squeeze into a 38 bra that we just didn’t have anything that would fit them. VS is not required to cater to anyone. They work very hard to maintain a certain image, and I’m glad that they do. It works well for them.
