Remember back in high school when you were asked, “what is your dream school?”
Well, after 3 and 1/2 years, I’m still not sure what my college guidance counselors meant by that.
I’m also pretty sure that my dream school might look more like a 4-year-long version of Animal House and not a highly reputable academic institution with a good student:professor ratio. Our friends over at the Huffington Post decided to make a list of the top ten dream colleges, and I have a feeling they’re also not on the same page as me.
In fact, I’m pretty sure they’re not even in the same book. Why? Because when I think dream school, this is what I’m thinking:
1. No Friday Classes. Three day weekend, every week… yes please
2. Hot TA’s. Maybe a shirtless Ryan Reynolds type? Oh and they have to be single too.

Free textbooks would be awesome. The way my schedule is set up, I don’t have Friday classes anyways… or Thursday classes for that matter. I’ve met a hot TA too. Got asked out by him at a bar before the semester had started and before I found out he was my political science TA.

Well I have 2 out of 10! No Friday classes & a hair salon! Ok well that belongs to the Cosmo students but we get discounts! LOL

I could see it working out. Though most ex or current students I’ve known never had Friday classes for the 3-day weekend purpose. And we can have all Ryan Reynolds look-alikes as TAs…need something for the guys to drool over.

lol, we have bars on campus. (Maybe 4?) And a couple hair salons.
A lot of your list seems to deviate from the point of school though. Socializing is good but at the end of the day I don’t go to school to drink beer (though I do love a beer), party, and look at shirtless guys. Though free text books would be pretty kick ass.

I only read the first two cause I’m tired of having to finish reading something elsewhere, but I agree with #2. (#1 is just lazy.) Anything involving Ryan Reynolds shirtless is a-okay with me.

I’d take the free textbooks!

I don’t drink, so this list doesn’t appeal to me. I commuted to school that was like 10 mins away if there was no traffic and after class, I got the hell out of there and didn’t want to stay after for whatever events/parties they might’ve had. I prefer to party at nightclubs not associated with school. if you choose the longer 2 hr tues/thurs classes, then you can have your 3day weekend; sometimes you have to suffer in 2 hr boring lecture classes to get the extra weekend benefits
no way would I have 2hr classes; mine were MWF 50-70 mins. classes
I’d prefer hot professors in their 30′s dressed in a sexy mobster pimp suit with british accents and looks like jude law or colin egglesfield(my new celeb crush
) I’d like a baskin robbins ice cream parlor, instead of the alcohol bar. also a Bebe clothing store for me to try on clothes during my breaks
if you get “A” grades in your classes, then you get free clothes, shoes and accessories or a gift card from the Bebe store
so it motivates divas like me to study more. or I prefer if colleges were located next to a mall and had a convenient bridge crossway to go there during breaks, because I don’t really care to go to foam parties or other parties, I just love shopping. I know I should go to school for the sake of learning rather than for the incentives, but who really does that nowadays as shown in this dream school blog:P I’d also like more shuttles located at several areas of the huge university parking lots, so I don’t have to walk what seems like 1 mile to my class, then I get too tired to pay attention in class, because I used up all of my breakfast energy
I’d opt for those nice looking espresso coffee machines inside of the class instead. and more comfortable seats like those stadium seats at movie theatres
with drink holders for my coffee
I probably have more requests but this is enough for now:D

What a boring and generic list.
I’d rather take smaller classes, more student support, cheaper tuition, better technology, campus-wide wifi, and yes free textbooks (though the no friday class rule sounds fun). Oh, and more free $$ for students. That would be my dream school. AND less bell-curving. I hate that shit.
Honestly, this list is for people who only go to college to get drunk. If you’re paying all that money, make better use of your time.

Where I grew up, you worked yourself to the bone in high school to get into the best university possible, or at least sit pretty on a full-ride to a second tier. I really don’t understand this “academia is for prudes who don’t know how to have fun” culture. Your mess isn’t “hot,” and you can get drunk off your ass for much less than several thousand a year if it’s really your “dream.”
I’m lucky to attend a school that is a great fit for me. My classes are small, my major program is one of the best in the country, and I’ve made great friends here. Cheaper textbooks and a better screening process for professors’ grasp of the English language would only sweeten the deal.

I would like cheaper tuition and free textbooks. We only use them for 4 months. Not fond of paying $100+ per book with the possibility of it not being able to be sold to another student because of: a) The prof won’t be teaching anytime soon; b) the textbook changes; or c) both. Classless Fridays depends on what courses I take. In the summer I get Fridays off!

Free textbooks is the only thing that appeals to me on that list.

Textbooks.

@loving_emerald@xanga - I agree..

I hate these “read more here…” posts

We do have a bar on campus, we do have a hair salon in the student center, and we DO have quite a few sexy TA’s (not all, of course, but some).

The only thing that appeals to me is no Friday classes, and free textbooks. This list seems to be for people who go to college to get drunk. Stupid. I mean, alcohol in class? Ugh.

I go to college in Glasgow, Scotland. I dont have Friday classes, we sometimes drink in tutorials and we have bars on campus in the student unions. Hair salons are 5 minutes away from campus (by walking).

this is the worse article ever…obviously by a college freshman…who is obviously not getting a real degree and is going to drop out within the next year. A dream school would include things like free coffee, a 24/7 gym, a spa, nice professors, a 24/7 lab with food, things like that. The only thing I agree with is the no fridays thing and free textbooks.
guest
I want professors who know you’re not only taking their class so they won’t assign a million things due every week. Then again… my school, my major, my fault.
sighhh lol

The only thing I agree with on this list is free textbooks. Or even reduce the price of them. But I don’t drink alcohol so most of this list seems stupid to me. I have no classes on Friday. If you don’t want classes on Friday don’t schedule them. If you need a class that is on Friday, grow up, welcome to Adulthood. It’s riddled with things you don’t want to do, including work on Friday. I work out at the gym every day that I’m on campus. You don’t need a personal trainer, get off your lazy ass and put the fried food down and go hop on the elliptical. A hair salon on campus? How much more lazy can you get?
My dream school is pretty much where I go to school. Webster University. It’s not perfect but it’s a lot better than some colleges. I would have smaller class sizes like 15:1 ratio. I have one class with only 7 people, it rocks. Every bathroom is gender neutral. Everyone is respectful of everyone else, Christians are kind to the LGBT community and vice versa. No one judges people from other countries and/or think they are terrorists. Healthier food. Pets allowed. And multiple options for counseling for anyone who needs it free of charge.

Wow, this list definitely reinforces college sterotypes. How disgusting! I attend university in Canada, and this list definitely doesn’t include what I consider to be the qualities of an ideal, dream college. I go to university to get an education, first and for most.
I’m 19 years old and am legal to drink where I am, and enjoying drinking, so I do. I’m also in a sorority so yes I do sometimes attend parties at the fraternity house, or go out to a bar on the weekend. But I’m not there to party. I don’t go and get hammered on a tuesday night when I have class the next morning.
I can’t speak for other people, or colleges, but my first year of university has required A LOT of hardwork. I went to the library nearly everday to review my notes. I wrote 15 page papers. I researched for hours on end. I cried studying for my most recent exam. Although I have enjoyed a social life, as well as balancing volunteering and a part time job, I have worked HARD. Harder than I have ever worked in my entire life.
The only people I know who are obsessed with partying and beer, and would write a list like the one that the author of that website has written, DROPPED OUT BY THANKSGIVING. To be honest this list really upsets me! I’m going crazy trying to get this degree….stressing, reading, writing, learning about the world… but meanwhile, things like that list get written, and reinforce those sterotypes that all college kids do is get drunk…
My god, this is aggravating.
