Should kids be able to get tattoos? In most states in the U.S., you must be 18 to get inked, although in most states, a minor can get tattooed with in-person consent from a parent or guardian. (See your state's law here!)
The laws vary according to country, though. For example, in the UK, you can't get tattooed if you're under 18, regardless of parental permission. In Canada, you can get a tattoo at any age as long as you have parental consent.
Banning minors from tattoos seems an idea designed to protect teens from themselves. I definitely wouldn't have trusted myself to pick out some permanent body art at age 14! However, some people no doubt argue that the age limit seems arbitrary and that teens shouldn't need a parent to sanction something they're going to do to their own bodies.
What do you think? Did any of you get a tattoo before you were 18?
