I am a firm believer in healthy eating, but I certainly don’t like the concept of dieting. My theory is: eat healthy when you can, but don’t be afraid to indulge in that cheeseburger or bowl of pasta.

What’s most important is making sure you get a well-balanced variety of nutrients, and a healthy amount of fat, carbohydrates, and proteins. Believe it or not, those are three important nutrients you need on a daily basis! Thus, the biggest challenge of maintaining a healthy weight and eating nutritious foods is snacking. I’ll be the first to admit that I crave chips, cookies, and everything in between, especially when I’m bored. Snacking is an easy way to kill time and satisfy those taste buds, and we’re all guilty of it. So, here are three snacks I’ve found to be both delicious and good for you.

1. Frozen Yogurt: Yogurt is a great source of dairy, but let’s face it: the stuff gets boring. At times, I crave it. I love Greek Yogurt (Chobani, any one?) and those Yoplait dessert yogurts, but I eventually get tired of them. So, I just recently discovered a radical new way to eat yogurt! It probably seems like common sense, but sticking a yogurt in the freezer transforms it into a tastier treat. My favorite is Dannon Activia in Strawberry, and after it’s been frozen for a few hours, it’s creamy, light, and absolutely delicious and guilt-free. Genius!

2. Soy Cheese Nachos: This is a great option for vegans or those who are lactose intolerant. I am neither of those, yet I somehow enjoy the taste of soy cheese. Galaxy Nutritional Foods makes their infamous Veggie Shreds or Veggie Slices, in flavors such as Cheddar, American, or Mozzarella. This “cheese” is made from soy, so it’s packed with protein. What I usually like to do is to mix the soy cheese with regular cheese, so it’s not loaded with calories but still has some taste of the real thing! Instead of using white tortilla chips, which are most likely processed or refined, shoot for Blue Corn Chips or Yellow Corn Chips. Add some salsa, guacamole, or light sour cream on the side, and you’re golden!

3. Homemade Trail Mix: This is a great option for a snack, because you can make it yourself and change what you decide to put into it if you ever get bored. My favorite trail mix contents: honey-roasted peanuts, Craisins, dark chocolate chips, pretzels, and granola. Trail mix is a great food to resort to when you’re craving something sweet. When you have a baggie on hand, you’ll grab this nutrient-packed mixture over candy, pudding, etc. With trail mix, almost anything goes!

What do you think of these healthy snacks, lovelies? What healthy snacks do you like to eat?
