i’m a guy and I play ps3 multiplayers online sometimes. I’m always surprised when I see a girl playing because I always thought girls aren’t into video games.

No, seriously, this post is ridiculous. It’s common knowledge even outside of the gaming community that female gamers get harassed online. This isn’t new, this isn’t even informative. Hell, you miss the entire point of the site which is NOT just to cover messages to women. I clicked their “About Me” and read, “Some players like to send creepy, disturbing, insulting, degrading and/or just plain rude messages to other online players, usually women. We think this is funny.

Why do they send them? There are a few theories. But instead of getting offended, we offer a method for people to share these messages and laugh together.

So while the target demographic may be female gamers, the site caters to both genders as well as any and all harassing messages. Not all  guys harass women and not all gamers that get harassed are women. I’ve had both men and women toss me a few “scathing” PMs in my gaming history. For the love of god chill with the misandry on here. It’s disgusting and annoying.

yeahhhh ive had such things said to me when I used to play a lot of games. I don’t play much anymore on the account that I’m much too busy. However, there was always the rape threats the gang bang threats the get back into the kitchen woman comments the ill shove my cock in your throat comments. Guys can be assholes. Especially if they feel like they are being showed up. Im not saying all guys that play games are assholes. I will say something else too. I have also met a lot of really bitchy girl gamers who were the same way even to other women. Really? just really? It’s pathetic. Though it seemed to me that they were just trying to get attention. maybe not. who knows. It’s just really sad and pathetic though.

I have to say that the content of much of the gaming world feeds on and breeds both insecurities in women and shovanistic views of women, so i think the real solution for women who find this behavior offensive is to not play such games(systematic woman by woman boycott). Women are mistreated in our society, but they also have to reject partaking in the mechanicisms which support such(including relative games, television, music, ect). Men, too, who see this for what it is should not partake.

You do realize everyone gets harassed online all the time? I normally just mute anyone talking on a mic and ignore anything that manages to come through in text. If you’re a girl, you’re going to get a slew of sexist comments about being a girl. If you’re a guy, you’re immediately assumed to be an immoral brand of homosexual with an unusually violent case of satyriasis – or something or other about your mom. I’m sure girls get more creepy comments about cybersex or online dating, but pretty much everyone gets hit by the shit-shovel when they log on for a game.

I’m a guy and I’ve had women tell me to go get raped. I’ve had little kids tell me to “eat shit” and “fuck off faggot”. 3) I have sent mean messages for the same reasons (my best friend is a terrible influence).

Overall, if I’m asked for tits/nudes, I let my brother or my best friend handle it because they always come up with something amusing. Everything else, I don’t care. I know what games I’m good and terrible at. I don’t put it out there like “OMG I’m so beast!” because I play for fun. 
Btw, when you know the kid is younger than 17, don’t take that shit seriously. Their balls haven’t dropped yet. It’s like arguing with a baby. Pointless.

I’m an mmo gamer/rpg most of the time and I can’t say I’ve ever really been harassed, I belong to a large guild, male and female friendly and we all get long just fine. I don’t play Cod, but from what I hear fps gamers are often sprouting abuse at each other. 

In our guild they kick members that show behaviour that is deemed constantly inappropriate, be it constant racism, constant sexism etc, random misbehaviour is encouraged though :-p but if it’s constant and bothering then they shall be kicked!

Well…obviously you’re not going to have girls going “oh my, this guy was so nice to me”. No, you’re going to have the negative remarks exemplified. It’s quite unfair and bias to only consider that, but such is the way things are.

If you are good, you don’t get bull talked unless it’s by serious douchebags. But if other people have chat on, they tend to back you up.

If you’re not doing so well, definatly you will notice maybe more crude remarks. But there’s ways of dealing with that. Muting the abusive player, not going on live chat, keeping your comments short and 110% relevant to your teammates, or like me, play in private chat with some friends.

Talking back when insulted is a waste of time, but I know that feeling.  It’s easy to complain and get into a rant to some ahole….but the better thing to do is suck it up and ignore. Because there will always be douche bags, you just got to know how to deal so you can enjoy the game.

I met a lot of girls playing games online and most of them were good players. I also met some not so good female players and all they needed to get better was for other players to make them feel like they were a part of the team and encourage them and you could see them improving on your screen. Then there is really bad players male or female who need a lot of practice before they get any good. 

But wishing a rape and calling them names because they are not as good as you are is evil and should be dealt with accordingly. That’s why xbox live has reputation options and it also allows you to ignore people you don’t like to play with for no reason at all. So yeah, site like this is useless, in my opinion because xbox live already has way to deal with people you don’t like.

Personallly I find the messages disgusting and highly offensive. As a girl gamer myself I find it ludicrous that men/boys would think of online gaming as the sole doamin of males – what century are they living in.

I don’t game – but its just like anything else. I think its a good idea considering sexual assault/harassment makes the victim feel singled out and small. This will help all of the cyber harassment victims see that they are not alone, and maybe even give them a place to talk about it, and connect.

Yes, it is a good idea….being a girl gamer you get harassed. But you have to remember that it is online, how old the boys probably actually are, (16-21 usually, 24 max) and that they probably wouldn’t do it to your face. The internet has a variety of trolls and goons that think it’s funny to say things online and “troll you.” You just have to kick their ass in the meantime. Which is what they’re doing.
