Try to get through UCLA student Alexandra Wallace’s tirade against Asian students without puking. She not only singles out an entire community for their rudeness, which she attributes to their race, but she mockingly references the Sendai tsunami while making “ching chong” noises.
This girl demonstrates so much ignorance, that I can’t believe this video isn’t a joke, let alone that Ms. Wallace was admitted into UCLA (I guess applications don’t reveal racism, unless you list the Ku Klux Klan as an extracurricular). First, she makes “Asian” and “American” mutually exclusive by insisting that Asians learn American manners, and secondly, she picks on Asians for being impolite. Of course it’s annoying when people answer their phone in the library, but rude behavior shouldn’t be attributed to race. You could have made a whole video about library rudeness without criticizing people’s race. This girl is insensitive, but should you generalize all white American girls as such because of how she represents? No. She calls herself a “polite, nice” American girl with good manners, but her comments sound pretty rude to me. I went to college in America, and all kinds of people talked in the library, not just Asians. There is also no excuse for bringing the tsunami victims up in that rant.
After posting it, she took it down (presumably following all the hate comments), but copies of the video have since spread to other channels. What do you expect after publishing that diatribe on a forum as public as YouTube? She has reportedly deleted her Facebook and deactivated her number as well.
While the UCLA administration calls the video “repugnant,” the internet has produced a slew of parodies, including Dracu Lo’s “ching chong ling long ting tong” remix:
I can’t imagine what this girl’s dealing with now that the video’s been seen by thousands of people. Good luck being taken seriously on campus! [via Angry Asian Man]

“Use American manners”… Asian culture as a whole is generally IMMENSELY more respectful and polite than almost any culture in the world, especially in comparison to American culture and this brilliant student we have here.
There needs to be an IQ test that people like this need to pass before their granted access to the internet. Then again…she has the makings of a porn star so maybe she belongs on the internet. I know a bit of a classless blow but that TSUNAMI crack was way off the charts on the ignorance spectrum.
She is the epitome of why people hate Americans.

This is so ridiculous.
“I’ve never seen this happen before.” Really? Because, at least in my college/high school/public library I’ve seen all sorts of people on their cell phones. I’d almost bank on the fact that she texts on her phone while she’s sitting there in the library “studying.”
I’m also pretty sure this girl has never had an epiphany in her life, or she’d have a little more sense than to post this online.Where everyone in the world can see it.
She just simply looks and sounds idiotic and racist!
I agree with Guteman91. She truly is the epitome of why people hate Americans.

I dont get how she supposebly has manners. She posted this on youtube, that isn’t polite and it’s not just asians who answer their phone calls in the library, everybody does it. >:| Sheesh

If her idea of good American manners is herself, I don’t want to learn it. No thanks. I’ll just kick her right in the face.
@Sisicakes@xanga - I agree with you and Guteman91.

HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHA. Americans have manners? Oops sorry I don’t mean it towards anyone I know just random people I see on TV. They always seem to be on their cells.
LOL my attempt at a hilariously amusing sarcastic comment. Although…
I was actually under the impression Asians had great manners and the likes. Well brought up. They can’t help their culture or their language etc. And girl, put on a bigger shirt. ^^
It’s people like this I just want to throttle.

Yeah, I don’t know how they do it at UCLA but here in Virginia going to the library doesn’t mean shit. Seriously, just as many, if not more, people go to the library to socialize instead of studying. That chick is the worst kind of bitch there is; the kind who doesn’t realize she’s a bitch.
And I apologize for the profanity, but that girl really pisses me off.

ucla library’s are pretty damn quiet, and anything and everything echos in powell.. so a phone call WOULD be annoying… but wow. ching chong ling long ting tong? gimme a break!
guest
in my university, if anyone ever saw you post something such as this, you’d be expelled- no if ands or buts.
in the end, she took it down. but…it has already been saved and seen by many people. don’t people think before they post?

This is why people hate Americans.

It seems more like highschool stuck up cliquish bull than hatespeech. But yeah, racism is generally synonymous with stupidity, as illustrated by this youtube clip. At least she’s in college where someone might set her straight.

She makes a few valid points, but NONE OF THEM are Asian- or Asian-American-specific. ANYONE can do these things, & plenty of people do – all of them equally annoying. Her “ching chong” is terribly offensive, as is her entire attitude.
I very much hope she’s reprimanded or at least warned by the school that her racist attitude won’t be tolerated – at a top-notch school or ANYwhere.

I love how everyone gets mad about how she shouldn’t stereotype Asians and then retort with a stereotypical blonde bimbo comment. Way to practice what you preach.
Not that I agree with her because I deal with this sort of annoyance at my school but it’s not just limited to Asians, please. Everyone does it. They’re either yapping away on their cell phones or shouting to another person in the room, even though we have rules about keeping the library a quiet place and if they can’t help but talk about who they saw at the club that weekend, then they should retreat to the student lounge where you can talk as loud as you want.

“American manners”? LOL. Oh yeah, they’re totally on display, here in her video.
guest
Well apparently someone never taught her manners. Someone just wants their 15 min of fame. And really lets wear some more revealing top. Really shes really going to reach an epiphany. Pretty sure she doesn’t even know what the word means. She was raised to be polite and nice, really now.
guest
not to be stereotyping or anything but doesnt she kind of fit the stereotype andfullfilling it by presenting herself as ignorant and a “blonde” ,valley girl type. way to make all people from california and people that go to UCLA, that are not of asian decenet look really ignorant.

maybe it is just her fake boobs that are picking up sound waves now, that could bother anyone.

Yeah, that was awful. It saddens me that people are still like this today.

Sure, she may be judgmental, but its true- usually, the immigrant asians usually dont keep as quiet in libraries, so i understand sooome of her pain.
guest
Seriously?
guest
Manners? What manners? She has NONE. She is just using this video as some outlet for her rich-ass prejudiced bigotry and deserves to be expelled from such a school as she is at. How humiliating for UCLA.
guest
Alexandra needs class. How dare she pulls out the race card for people talking in the library. AS IF she’s never done that in a library before like once or twice for a very important call. And even if she hasn’t, still… it’s not just Asians, ya know.
Her vid passed the boundary. everyone’s a little bit racist, but this was extreme. I’m Asian, and I’m offended. I know non-Asians who are also offended too
Most Asians do tend to raise their kids with a village, hence why many are so family oriented. She made it seem WRONG for family to visit their college kids. Like what is wrong seeing Asian parents walking around the apartment complex? Is it so wrong? Are they disturbing her with their laundry? If they’re not hurting you or bothering you, let them be. The fact that she just mentioned there are too many Asians in her apartment place is a result of her feeling like a minority, but by no means should she bash on them just because she “always sees Asians around her apartment”.
Gosh, that vid was just so UNCLASSY. I hope from this experience she learns from it.
guest
i think you need to calm down. bringing up the tsunami thing was unacceptable, but the rest of the video was really not that big of a deal. i imagine it was right after an asian person had done something to upset her, and when you’re upset your mind goes off on tangents. it happens to all of us. the only difference is that she put hers up on youtube. not the smartest move, but she’s light years from being the worst person in the world.
i think the real reason why people are so mad about this video is because she’s a blonde with big tits. everybody who’s not blonde with big tits loves a reason to hate people who are blonde with big tits. but even after seeing this video, i’d still hit it.

It’s definitely a fucked up video, but I agree with some of the above comments – in that it’s not the worst thing to hit the interweb. Also, I just love how everyone is pissed at her stereotypical comments, but are calling her a dumbass, airheaded blonde with big tits. Not sure how ANY of that is relevant – just sounds like angry misfirings.

Is there some trend going around to make racist videos? Since the new year I’ve seen about 4 videos [that have become "famous"] that do the same thing as this video, except towards black people! What’s wrong with everyone? This is 2011, it’s not cool or funny to be racist. If you think this way in the comfort of your home, whatever, what can anyone do? But why make it so public. Tssh, dumbies.
guest
lol. i hate anyone loud or who feels the need to b loud in the library— just go home.
this girl should have my first roomie, she was a psycho and would NEVER get off the phone until people hung up multiple times. she never stopped using the phone until like 3am… so annoying…
that being said, i dont think the videos that bad. like the 1st point about the families coming over for the weekends, the kids probably dont like it either. but its also kind of nice, and its pretty much like who cares? read a book or something.
daisy / 598 posts
I’m amazed how fast this video spread online. I feel bad for her, the repercussions really suck. Though, I do question her intelligence for having posted a video about this, I supposed her ignorance concerning racism is just as much for posting things on the internet. And as people have already mentioned, battling hate with hate is just as bad as what she did, so doing any name calling is just ridiculous.

Id like to think she just had a REALLY bad day! its not an excuse for being racist but maybe she was too upset (we have all been there) maybe…now her mistake was to make it public on youtube I mean come on really?!
anyway I kinda feel bad for her for all the bad things being said about her…but then again she was really rude!
guest
Do people still use the library anymore?
guest
There’s stereotypes for a reason. At my school, Asians do the exact same thing.
She’s overreacting, but guess what? All she did was make a video. That’s called free speech. It’s not a hate crime, she’s just ignorant. I hope UCLA doesn’t expel her. That would be overly dramatic. I’m sure she learned her lesson.
Everyone is a little bit racist. Especially all of you who are calling her a dumb blonde. Ultimate hypocrites right here.

She brings up a few valid points (like people talking in libraries) but that is NOT limited to Asians whatsoever. There are tons of rude people in the library of all colors.
She gets a FAIL from me.
sunflower / 447 posts
@merquryd@xanga - yup. I’m not American, and people around me don’t really take Americans seriously.
That being said, this is the mildest form of racism out there – this is just an ignorant girl who defines asian people as “those weird people in the library I don’t know” and is basically xenophobic about everything that is different from her and how she was raised. Obviously, her racist bias makes her only see the Asian people who talk on their cell phones, when in reality EVERYONE is on their cells phones, talking or texting in the library. And I honestly don’t get why she’s mad about their parents baby-ing them – it’s not your life, get over it.
guest
I’m asian and I’ve noticed asian fobs in the library talking loudly and laughing. it isn’t just an asian thing but I can’t stand people regardless of race, who don’t have common courtesy, whether it be at the library or movie theater, etc and don’t even attempt to whisper or tone down their noise level when other people give them that look
I can relate to her being annoyed of people, but zeroing in on a race while mocking the asian language is crossing the line.

Yeah this video was annoying.. sadly this happens way too often even to my own face that I don’t get frustrated over things in this little scale anymore. On one side I think that people shouldn’t waste they’re time getting so frustrated over something like this and shouldn’t hate on her this much but on the other side, I feel like it might do some good for America to see how much this kind of behavior is disliked so people will use a little more sense before they speak so ignorantly from now on.
I feel like ignorance will always be around but hopefully the world is working towards being a little less ignorant. Sometimes, though, I think that’s the most far-fetched dream I have for the world along with ending war.

Yet further proof that being in college is not the same thing as being wise or even being a clever person. Someone very close to me was not able to graduate high school. She always regretted that and she feels inferior to anyone who has a high school diploma or higher…I insist that a diploma or a degree in no way makes someone smart, and I am constantly finding excellent examples of this. You can achieve a lot and still be incredibly thick. “All-American” Barbie here is just sharpening my point all over the place.
I actually feel kinda bad for her…with the internet, how long will it be before she lives this down? I bet she’ll never run her mouth before giving it some serious thought first, again. That’s probably one of the hardest lessons she’ll ever have to learn.
guest
@darkthief13@xanga - yeah, seriously. i’m sure the harassment that caused her to close down her facebook and change her phone number is far more than she deserved. all these ivory tower dwellers need to lay off.
guest
i don’t really think its that bad. shes not racist, she’s just ignorant. i feel like if she had intended to make her video racist, she would have been more hateful, whereas she’s just basically saying she’s bothered by asians.
honestly, thats her opinion and nobody should call her a bitch for how she thinks and what she believes. leave her alone and get a life. i can’t believe how many people are so interested in the ramblings of a random girl. she’s stupid enough to post this online which is completely inappropriate, but i think she’s paying for it.

Wow. There are no words that could possibly define the nature and intensity of her ignorance. What excellent “manners” she has to belittle an entire race because of a single incident. I’m sure her “momma” must be so proud.
As someone who is both a US citizen AND a foreign national, and has
lived in both the US and countries abroad…. I can truthfully say that
many places around the world unfortunately perceive AMERICANS in particular
to be ill mannered. As an American, it really saddens me to know that Americans are generalized that way. And though it doesn’t make it right, as someone who has grown up in a foreign country I can fully understand where that perception comes from. comes from people like her.
And that comment about the tsunami? Seriously? If an unparalleled disaster like that had happened in her home country, I doubt she would have given a DAMN about taking her phone call outside.
guest
honestly, it’s really hard not to make “racist” comments about things like this when its EVERY SINGLE PERSON.. who happens to be asian doing a particular thing. I realize that grouping people together in a particular continent isn’t “just” but hey, it’s a tough world out there. I’m sorry that the people you’re affiliated with don’t have any manners?
I get shit made out of where I’m from all the time. I laugh it off. It doesn’t bother me because I know that it isn’t true about ME.
guest
i am an asian-american student at ucla, and yes, i was appalled that this girl tarnished the reputation of my people and my university in just three minutes. i have to agree with some of the comments stated here about people talking in the library, but the fact of the matter is that no matter how much people say that we should expel her, we cannot do anything more than educate her about her actions. she has already apologized in the daily bruin, and honestly, the death threats are more horrible than her ignorance. she has the right to free speech, and she most definitely has the right to life. people need to stop insulting her; you are judging her just as much as she is judging the asians in the library, and the cycle of hatred needs to stop.
@peaceandpurple@xanga - your response is just as bad as hers, as you are doing precisely what you said you weren’t. you should be ashamed for stereotyping her as a blonde valley girl type; i’m sure you offended valley girls with your comment as ell.

Half the people trying to get her phone number are guys wanting to date her, I bet. Racism will continue as long as racist/racially insensitive people get positive reactions. She’s dumb, guys like dumb girls. She’ll continue to be dumb because it gets her attention. She’ll play “all sad” that she upset people and it’ll go away and guys will still be wanting to date her because she’s dumb. And she’ll continue to have her racially insensitive rants because she didn’t learn any real manners.

you know what, while this chick is extremely wrong and bitchy, i kinda agree with her about foreigners having bad manners. it’s not that theyre inherently rude, it’s just that manners vary from country to country. at my school, the education building is in the same building at all the study abroad students classes. and in that library, no matter asian/african/middle eastern/ english, theyre always all being loud either on the phone or in direct conversation.
it kills me so much. so now i trek across campus to the geology building, and study in the tiny library the size of my parents living room lol.

Wow…. what a gem. I doubt she ever EVER reaches an “epiphany” moment in the library or elsewhere. I’m surprised she even got into any college with such a worthless brain.
guest
I actually think she is kinda funny and valid in her rant. Its the American political correctness that makes this a “horrible” video. I think a large part of why her rant was directed towards Asians is because UCLA has an impossibly HUGE Asian population. And guess what? While Asians tend to be respectful to others of their own ethnicity, especially elders, they ARE NOT respectful to those outside their ethnicity. They 1) dont care and 2) think they are superior. I make an emphasis on ethnicity because Chinese people feel they can be rude to Vietnamese, Japanese, etc but tend not to be rude to fellow Chinese speakers… except those who are direct immigrants, who (I have seen it!) discriminate against others not of their dialect/ province.
A lot of this applies to Americans as well, not denying that. She should have tried to provide equal ethnic representation so that it wouldnt be racist? Then it would be universally racist in most people’s eyes. This might be something you say to friends, but she should have been more careful where she published this online. Whomever her friends/subscribers are, they arent friendly to her. Poor girl.
guest
OK, well the whole they can’t teach their kids to fend for themselves? Seriously? I’m sure that these kids will do something similar for their kids…and I’m sure the kids can do it themselves, their parents just want to take away extra “burdens” so they can study and/or get a few extra hours of sleep. And I don’t think it’ll be EVERY week they do it, nor every family….and I doubt all Asians are talking on the phone in the library….other people are too. GOODNESS, this sounds ignorant (kinda repetitive after all the previous comments eh?

LOL! the remix is hilarious!
ching chong ling long ting tong!
but people using cellphones in library is annoying, especially in the “24 hour room” of my school.. if i get a call i just step outside.. noone is going to steal your backpack.. (well maybe but it hasn’t happened to me yet)
guest
Ah… I don’t see what was SO bad about it… it wasn’t outright racist… she did repeatedly say that she knows it sounds bad… BUT… and really, seriously…it does get frustrating that people get into these little racial cliques.
All of the Arabs hang out with other Arabs. All of the Polish people hang out with other Polish people and naturally, all of the Asians have their clique as well.
Granted, without race, we would develop cliques based on other things but me being one of the kids who was made fun of a lot in grammar school… trust me, it is a lot worse when you don’t even know what they’re saying because they’re making fun of you in a different language.
You know what they say about united we stand… if we’re all divided up by “Asian American,” “Irish American,” “Polish American,” etc, we are… divided.
I consider myself 100% American. I have no connection to a heritage that I know nothing about… and I think that we have grown, as a country, to be too edited. We are so terrified of offending someone that THIS is seen as a tirade and a hate rant… when it’s really not.
Though mentioning the Tsunami was a bit much. lol.

There’s no way to say this without sounding racist, but she’s kind of right. I don’t agree with the way she said what she did. I go to a university 45 minutes away from UCLA and this isn’t the first time I’ve heard comments like this, even including from my own school. I don’t have any personal issues against Asians and I lived with an Asian girl for two years, but I can just see what she means. She said it way too harshly and included things she probably didn’t actually mean. This would probably be better suited for an angry rant to a friend face to face rather than a youtube video where everyone blows it out of proportion. She was obviously angry. If someone was doing that while I was studying for finals I’d be pretty damn angry, too.

Although I totally agree that this girl’s rant shows her ignorance and intolerance and hate…. what I don’t understand is why you have posted it here and spread the even hate further and given it more publicity. In my opinion, that was poor judgment on your part.
guest
She knows what a library is?
rose / 834 posts
This is only offending you because it’s video evidence. A lot of people say this stuff every day at colleges across the nation. The asians at Temple were really quiet though in the library.. they were there to study just like anyone else. It’s mostly just common areas where everyone hangs out that I noticed any type of cell use or loud talking…from anyone. If I had to pick a louder race/nationality at TU, I’d have to say black men and women were louder in the library than anyone else. I’m guilty of being an asshole in study areas though too, so I’m not singling out one race as the sole cause of any noise disruption. I think this would be a really interesting study to do, though, across college campuses.
guest
i know its terrible to generalize… but this is also very true in my school.
guest
hahahaha – I saw this a couple days ago, and I think it’s hilarious. She’s got a point about talking on your cell phone in the library (I’m pretty sure most people would earn a death glare at my school if they did that), and its true at a lot of schools that asians and people of asian descent hang out at the library and talk loudly all day, but her supporting points are just…whaaa??? My advice about this video is just to laugh at it

I think people are taking this video too seriously.
Although I agree that it was insensitive of her to bring up the natural disasters that has happened in Japan. She could at least have a little more sympathy and understanding for those people. However, there’s no need for billions of people on the internet to keep reposting this video everywhere and calling her names. None of us are perfect. We all have at least once said something racist or stereotypical without even thinking twice about it, whether you admit it or not.
It’s really sad that most of this world has nothing better to do than become outraged by one girl’s thoughts. She probably already learned her lesson, just let it go.
Fighting hate with hate doesn’t solve anything, anyways.
guest
@oystermushroom@xanga - No the point is she posted it on YOUTUBE. That’s the point. There’s a difference if she were to just go up to her friends and start ranting about Asians, but posting it on Youtube you’re just asking for trouble. Thoughts like that should be kept private. She had no fucking common sense so she put it up on one of the world’s most used and visited website.
I’m racist towards everyone equally and I’ve had and have friends from different cultures and colors of the rainbow and we talk a lot of shit. That’s with friends. She did it to pretty much millions of people she didn’t know. “This is for the people I don’t know”. I would never go up to a random Black or African American guy and ask him, “Does massah let you eat watermelon?” That’s just asking to get shot in my face. The point is she pretty much did that. In the form of posting it up on a video and putting it on Youtube. She pretty much said that to everyone who’s ever gone on Youtube. If you want to argue that they’re thoughts, then keep them as thoughts, not a video that’s posted up for literally the world to see.
She’s stupid as hell with no common sense she asked for it as soon as she pressed “Upload”.
guest
Watching it and posting it increases the hits, which, for all we know, may be this womans goal all along. Now adays, it’s pretty hard for negative press to be negative, considering what common cultural pursuits are(ie. fame, money-fame). So i would say that if it repulses you, the best thing to do would be to give it the silent treatment. There’s 7 billion people out there, plenty(unfortunately) have things to say that are unkind. We can focus on them, or put the spotlight on people who are doing the positive things ; )

Now we may never know what political science/art human ephiphany she may have had.

@hyaj5@xanga - Library etiquette: Keep noise level down.
Even that needs to be explained to people who come from different countries. And they’d be the ones demanded to leave the library if they continued yapping.

I wonder how she ever graduated high school let alone middle school with that tiny brain of hers. She must hate herself to the extent of making a video of her talking. I cannot make out anything from all that noise coming out of her mouth. Perhaps she thinks she is speaking the truth but her tongue is forked and her butt is on fire.
Her being blonde does not help matters either…

@oystermushroom@xanga - So you are saying she can say anything she wants without any consequences? Just because we should take her words seriously? She needs to be punished and kicked out of UCLA (she probably kissed the Dean’s butt to get admitted. I have a difficult time believing she got accepted from her own hard work) for being so insensitive.
She is a lame human being.

@BlehhItsTu@xanga - People do group work loudly in the library, heck, there are even classes that come to the library.

lmao my best friend goes to UCLA and he has sent me random texts throughout the daysince he started attending called “stupid ucla girl/guy quotes”. she could’ve done without the racist remarks and just complained about people talking in the library in general..

disgusting.

UGGHHH, I saw this video just after the tsunami happened when someone posted a link to a website called Ignorant and Online, which documents awful things people have said on social networking sites. It STILL drives me crazy watching it again. This girl is seriously studying political science??? I desperately hope this idiot NEVER makes it into the political sphere. Maybe if that tiny brain can handle paying attention in some classes, she will learn to stop being such a self-centered bigot.

extreme ignorance

ha…this girl does NOT study.

I can’t imagine her being very deep in her studies.

I love the parodies and how viral they’ve become. I guess that teaches her a lesson then. Is she still alive?
Well, she may have some valid points raised against noise in the library but that shouldn’t be singled out to Asians, I guess.
She got owned! :p
