Artist Dietrich Wegner painted tattoos on these babies for a reason.
Pennsylvania-based Wegner carefully hand-painted corporate logos on the adorable infants to prove a point: kids are exposed to 40,000 ads each year, and our consumerist culture is affecting younger and younger populations.
Anyone who has the patience to perform body art on babies earns my respect, already. Go to the source to see more pics!

Some of the tattoos are cute and funny, like the LEGO logo. Interesting concept for a photoshoot.
I was originally afraid, when I saw the title, that it was something about people getting their babies tattooed for real and I was like WHAT?!

I love the message, frankly.

How in the world did she get those babies to sit still long enough to paint the logos that well?!

first of all, those babies are adorable. second, this whole consumerist culture affecting young people isn’t really news to me…i mean, where else do kids get the ideas that they must have the new toys that are out. my 4 year old cousin threw a tantrum until his mom got him a chia pet. a chia pet!

Some of these just seem really random. I mean, I don’t exactly feel inundated with ads for Buffy the vampire slayer and the state of Texas…

I like the statement being made, for sure.

@theunknowndarkness1@xanga - duh it was to get you to click on it. lol
& I agree cute and a bold statement.

These babies are cute!

@Eyes_Herself@xanga - lol yeah I know..
I just have to get over this like reading the cover of tabloids

i think that’s a cool message.

I love the statement, though.

my son would love this. i swear every week i’m putting another temporary tattoo on his arm hahahah. once it wipes off he points to his arm and goes “tattoo?” smh.
this is brilliant though, really.

Those babies are adorable, and the artist is making a really good point. We see advertising EVERYWHERE we turn– those kids will be exposed to far more advertising in their lifetimes than I will be, simply because people are finding more and more ways to advertise. It’s actually slightly disturbing.
Also, he gets kudos for having so much patience. That must have been a challenge.

I absolutely love this. Brilliant concept.

That’s cool.

if my son did not have such sensitive skin, I totally would have put temporary tattoos on him.
Even if his skin weren’t sensitive, I bet she would have had to put him to sleep to do this.

I like how the message is pretty straight forward, i pretty much could tell what it was from just looking at the picture.

The second photo is so absolutely adorable !

I don’t get the point. We’re a consumerist culture, have been for a long time.
guest
I work with babies and I would NEVER have the patience to sit there and paint them like that! I wonder how they even did it?!?!
guest
the babies are soo cute !!

Awww this might miss the point, but the little kid in the last picture looks sooo confused by LEGO on his tummy.

How in the world did they get those babies to stay still enough for that long!? That’s incredible…
On another note though… why is the fact that ” our consumerist culture is affecting younger and younger populations” so shocking? I know for a fact that this has been an on-going thing since I was younger, at least. I’m willing to bet it happened when my mother was a child as well. TV ads have been around since TV was made popular… toys for much longer.
I suppose the artist is quite good though… there’s no denying that.

I love how one of the kids is actually checking out his tattoos in that last photo. Great message!

Hmm ok … but really, I think some of these are a stretch. I’m a bit skeptical that young children are being inundated by advertising from AAA, the state of Texas, or the Salvation Army. The babies are cute, but I think this message has been played out.

i love it..

@BrokenButBold@xanga - She had them pinned down by sweat shop workers. OMG HYPOCRISY.

Hahaha this is glorious! Panera-baby is pretty freaking cute

@annamariuhh@xanga - I heard some parents with twins, triplets etc. will tattoo a fake beauty mark on each child (like a dot on a toe) to tell them apart.
guest
Well not real tattoos… the art and the concept behind it is brilliant though.
guest
@BrokenButBold@xanga - My question too. Maybe she did it while they were napping?

In this pregnancy forum I am on, I saw a thread about this thing that someone heard on the radio: This couple wanted to get their baby tattoo’d for its first birthday. A heart on her ankle. HOW DISGUSTING.

I LOVE THE FACT THAT ONE BABY IS WEARING A CLOTHE DIAPER!!!!

love the statement. and really love that someone had the patience and skill to paint all these kids.
this is why i limit my daughter to one hour a week of tv. and it can only be on the weekends. and she rarely gets in even 30 minutes. we mainly stay busy playing and going outside.
