Whenever plus-sized model Crystal Renn gains/loses a single pound, the world wide web and blogosphere are up in arms:
“The shrinking plus-size supermodel’ Crystal Renn is the new face (and legs and… feet) for Jimmy Choo – here’s the beauty and her slender figure in the vibrant ads!”
“Here’s plus-size straight-size model Crystal Renn in a wide range of denim outfits on the pages of Vogue Germany.”
- SkinnyVsCurvy.com
Renn has stated previously that natural weight loss occurred as she slowly integrated exercise back into her daily routine.
“I used to workout obsessively for 8 hours a day,” she admits to People magazine. “Now, I want to do something fun that’s good for my body.”
Dodai Stewart, a write for Jezebel.com, sums up the controversy best. “In general, [Renn] sounds extremely intelligent, well-spoken and clear of mind. It’s obvious she’s left her unhealthy behavior and self-loathing in the past.”
Stewart goes onto suggest that Renn’s model card states her size as “2″ to appeal to a wider clientele. These days Renn’s agency, Ford, uses her as both a plus and straight size model.
“Because of my size currently, I straddle this line between the two worlds — i guess you could say I’m a plus size straight size model. I am four inches smaller than a plus size model and four inches bigger than a straight size model.”
- Renn, in an interview with Plus Model Radio.

It is silly but the fact that she is model that everyone cares. Weight and height is all that is to do about modeling sadly and they are held to a standard.

It’s sad that a size 2 is considered to be plus-sized, really. I’m a size two…… Dang, I always thought that was fairly small!

Amen! I’d never even heard of her before lovelyish started posting about her. Who cares?

The concern is that she goes between sizes really fast. When you see her one month at a size 10, and two months later at a size 2, something’s gotta be up. She’s struggled with her weight before.

Size 2 is plus size?
Goodbye, self-esteem.

“I didn’t make the rules, I am breaking them”
Yep. I love her. Since when is a freaking size two plus size? Am I missing something here?

That red dress she is wearing towards the end of this post makes her look like a sausage link…
But really, who cares…

@Newlysaids@xanga - In the modeling world, yes. I have a cousin who is a model and she was at first considered ‘plus-sized’ because she was a size two. She then dropped a lot of weight because there wasn’t so much for plus-sized models.

@Newlysaids@xanga - Seriously. Dear god…

This is confusing. But she’s pretty. Though in the first picture her face and neck look scary thin, but the rest of her doesn’t.
guest
Yes, but why is she wearing things that aren’t flattering [for her]?
I mean, the swimsuit in the first suit is, except for the boob spill on her left side (right side of the picture).

Size 2 is for big girls? Size 7 must be obese. I am skeptical that she is a size two in that red …. whatever that is….

God, if only fashion was about creatively expressing your individual sense of style rather than labels and sizes and bickering over what number to put on fat and what number to put on skinny = beautiful. I have grown exhausted with the whole thing. It’s all fucking shallow and stupid and it’s about money, marketing, and politics. If I were her I would have just said “Fuck you all” and left everything behind. I couldn’t stand to work with all of those people and all the ridiculous standards.

@Newlysaids@xanga - Isn’t that just utterly and completely braindead? Seriously. So stupid. And we’re talking girls that are 5’10″ and taller mostly. Jesus, I’m 5’10″ and I think I would look gross in a size 2. The “industry standard” is, in my opinion, bullshit.

She doesn’t look very tall, so a size two might be bug for her height, but she doesn’t seem to be any smaller than a 4/5 in her first photo. In the second one she looks fat and the last one her arms look healthy, not fat.

@Newlysaids@xanga - yup, mine just went out the window with that statement. guess since i’m a size 7 that means i’m obese? right?
magnolia / 1042 posts
@theflowerstem@xanga - unless she’s extremely short it’s not too big for her height. i’m 5’2 and i’m def not a size 2. i don’t consider myself big.

@WhenHateIsTheOnlyOption@xanga - lol. i just read your comment, which is similar to mine! if size 7 is obese, count me in.

She looks amazing. Doesn’t even look like she’s “plus-sized”

That picture at the Mark Fast Runway is DEFINITELY not size 2.

Sizing in the model world is insane. But what’s new?
I think it’s inane to follow her and her weight. She’s had issues in the past so working on being truly healthy is probably a little bit of a struggle. People focusing on her weight probably isn’t helping. Maybe if people stopped focusing on her weight and whether she’s plus size or not, her weight wouldn’t fluctuate so much because the pressure somewhat dissipates. I don’t know but I do know that if you’re worrying about something, weight can fluctuate a lot because of your mental state. If she’s being healthy now though, I applaud her.

her eyebrows are way too long… =/

man, she could be a size orange and i wouldn’t care. she’s so gorgeous!

WTF, when did size 2 become PLUS SIZE? These people need to get their heads checked.
She looks like a normal person who works out – good for her.

wow.. that second-to-last picture is AWFUL!! she’s really pretty, but that photo and outfit and hair is unbelievably unflattering!! yikes!

man, i think shes one of the most grogeous women in the world, but none of those pictures really do her justice at all…
