Whitening lotions, whitening facial masks, whitening facial cleanser, and whitening foundation are found in almost every makeup store in Asia. In Asia, people believe that girls with light or white skin is beautiful. If you have dark skin, it means you are ugly.
I’m originally from Asia and I remember a girl was made fun of by my classmates because of her dark skin. Since I moved to the states, I’ve always felt like every skin tone is pretty and having dark skin looks fine. But I think Asian girls overdo it to make themselves as white as possible so some girls look so pale and fatigue. Sometimes I wonder they do it because they want to look like westerners or they just follow the trend.
In recent years, circle contacts have been fab in Asian countries. Those contacts make your eyes look rounder and bigger like the animation. In Asia, around only 30 percent of population has crease on their eyelids which is common in Caucasians. Since 20th century, having double eyelids have been regarded as a symbol of beauty in East Asia. When you flip through magazines from Asia, you can see almost every girl on it has very big eyes and light skin. They don’t look like the Asian girls you see on TV in the western world. Lucy Liu may seem like one of the hottest women in the states but she falls in the ugly category in Asia because she doesn’t have big eyes and have very dark skin.
I still remember when I was a kid, I had darker skin because I always swam and didn’t have folds on my eyelids, which resulted in being made fun of in an disrespectful way. When I was a teenager, my relatives and some friends said I was ugly because of my so Asian facial features. Now I have very light skin and have folds on my eyelids, my Asian relatives’ve started making a compliment on me by saying “aw..you are way prettier than when you used to be..look at you, your skin is so white and your eyes look big!” Honestly, I feel confused about their compliments because I know I’m still me no matter how much I’ve changed on the outside.
Basically beautiful Asian girls in the western world are usually seen as ugly or even repulsive in Asia. Maybe that’s why many Asian girls want to look white since Caucasian features such as having light skin, straight nose bridge and big eyes are considered beautiful in Asian countries.

Another unresearched post about Asian perceptions of beauty. There’s a history to why Asian girls want to look like that.
daffodil / 1607 posts
i have double eyelids! but mine are natural ><
Also, I actually don’t know any Asian American girls who go out of their way to become lighter O_O Most of them don’t want to tan because of the damage from the sun, but none of them buy skin lightening things. Most of them ae pretty tanactually
I went back to Taiwan 3 year ago and I was actually told by many people that they liked my complexion even though i’m not paper white like a lot of the girls there, they have such porcelain complexsions
HAHA i hope they weren’t lying to me -.-

i’m asian and i never want to look white. i’m fair skin, not too dark or too white, asians love a white skinned girl. i thought this was a bit odd too because when i was in asia, they looked at me like i was crazy or something. i was wearing shorts and tanks and tanned in the summer. i don’t really know what’s the fetish in it, but i’m just happy the way i am.
daffodil / 1607 posts
hm but maybe you’re alluding to just girls in asia? I don’t know i theyre necssarily modeling their looks after caucsian women, a lot of women have big eyes and such. I don’t think it eally has to be compared to wanting to look like a caucasian woman =]

Each culture have these “beauty standards” but the bigger people are the ones who see that either or is beautiful.
The pale double lidded Asians are beautiful and the dark mono lidded Asians are beautiful.
In Western societies many people find tanner skin more appealing, but I’m extremely fair and having a tan complexion is unattainable for me. I’ve been called a ghost and the most laughable was that I looked unhealthy. (Methinks a natural complexion does not appear unhealthy, ever.)
Even through all that, I quite love my complexion. I’m not going to suggest my society should look like me. I’m all for people looking like them and no one else.
You can’t change the way people think but you can change the way you think. Even if everyone got over what beauty standards currently perplex their society, a new one will begin.

It’s just their culture, just like american girls want to be tan. There was a Asian girl a grade ahead of me in high school she could speak fair english but i remember she would get embarrassed when she would blush. She would put her hands over her cheeks and was like “Oh i’m gettin hot.” She even brought books to class about whitening your skin. It was interesting, it’s amazing how different cultures can be.
guest
@suuperstar@xanga - agreed.
it’s definitely not because ‘we’ want to look ‘white.’ i, for one, prefer to be paler in skin color (a personal preference. i don’t think ONLY fair-skinned people are attractive). but i am not thinking (consciously or unconsciously) that i want to be white.
plus, there are plenty of darker skinned models who are really popular!

When I was visiting some family in the Philippines, I actually asked one of my cousins why there are so many skin whitening products. She said that lighter skin makes you look more delicate, like you don’t have to spend a lot of time working outdoors. I don’t particularly care either way. I spend most of my time tanned because I love spending time outside.

@XoAsianBabioX@xanga - haha i agree, i’m sure there’s a history to that as well…(sarcasm)

Begin pale has been part of custom and tradition in Asia for centuries, even longer than the life of the United States. Just because we strive for a certain look doesn’t necessarily mean that we are trying to look white, but because it is the so called “mold” of an Asian girl.
orchid / 205 posts
I dunno, I liked fair skinned asians, but I think dark asian is best asian.
But in the end, if I wanted to date a girl because of their skin color, I would.
but I’m not that shallow.

well white in Chinese defines pure skin. so maybe that’s why?
im pretty pale compared to my family and friends are darker than me. im usually concerned about looking too pale than too tan o.o i find that girls in the states want to look darker not lighter…? i see make up gurrus talking about bronzers and other forms of darkening the skin. maybe its just me
guest
here’s an answer:
If you are Asian and pale then you’re considered “rich” or “higher class” because you don’t have to spend time working outside on farms or anything–which is why darker-colored Asians are considered “lower class.”
So,
Pale Asians = perceived as “higher class”
Darker Asians = perceived as “lower class”
That’s just my two cents

People have different beauty standards and different perceptions of beauty overall. Some white women want to be darker and/or curvier. Some Black women want to be lighter with slimmer noses.
Because beauty is so subjective, it’s hard to pinpoint why people want to look certain ways. But, I don’t think they should be judged for that.
To each one’s own.

@Murphy_Rants@xanga - *TWO THUMBS UP!*
Also, as long as you know you are beautiful, that’s what all matters. Life would be boring if we all look the same anyways.
But I kinda disagree and agree with this article. All cultures have their own standards of beauty. I have a lot of Asian male and female friends and they think I am gorgeous, considering I am a black woman. But, I don’t let people determine if I am pretty or not. I know I am beautiful and unique because God made only one of me. I love my brown skin.
To be honest, using skin whitening products does not necessarily mean you want to be white or have self-esteem issues. Sometimes, women want to use them to even out their skin tone due to hyperpigmentation or they just want a lighter complexion. If you go to the black hair shops, you would find a lot of skin lightening products as well! Some use it for skin lightening reasons, some just to even out skin tone. I personally don’t see anything wrong with skin lightening because people tan, right? It’s the same thing. Everyone has a preference. Do whatever makes you happy I suppose. But, I don’t agree with the concept of believing that dark skin is uglier than lighter skin. It’s not! All shades of skin color are beautiful to me.
sunflower / 251 posts
Yah, I got my eyelids done. Did I do it to look caucasian(white)? HELL NO! I just wanted to be an asian girl with double eyelids. Is that such a hard concept? I don’t think white girls who want a tan are trying to be mexican or black. They just want to be a white girl with a tan.

… White people aren’t the only ones born with light skin.
In case you haven’t noticed, a lot of Eastern Asians also have naturally pale skin.
Light skin was desired in those cultures way before there was even contact with Caucasians.
This post is absolutely ridiculous.
guest
@sk1nny105@xanga - thats the exact reason asian girls want to be pale it has nothing to do with wanting to look caucasian
hydrangea / 90 posts
Another thing why Asians want white skin is because lighter skin means to be richer. The poor/villagers have to work outside for their income and the fortunate don’t really work outside to say. That’s what I was told by my parents… but since I live in the US, tan gives someone some color and a vibe.
guest
I do wish I had bigger eyes. Although I already have naturally big eyelids, I like the look of big eyes, and I love putting on makeup. I like to stay away from the sun, and wear long sleeves because it’s my own preference for my skin. Therefore, I am super pale. In some ways I can only agree of the actions but not of the reasoning.
guest
i think beauty is beauty. I dont believe that an eye size or skin tone can determine whats beautiful at all. Its sad that Asians think that lighter skin is best but i attend and HBU and its predomically african americans…..and there i hear a lot about lighter skin girls look better than darker ones…its sad that we as people place so much on skin tones but it also raises the question why white girls tan so much an dye their hair white….ewww. They wanna look like old ladies that live in miami an tan often……gag

Awsome blog! You said it the best! I was about to blog it, but I took to long to put it together like you did.
Well, there is a saying in confucian context or a another ancient text of Asia read “all light things float to heaven” . or something very similar to that. Many Asians literally think “light” meaning white skin and staying thin which is a smaller size than western’s thin size.
On ther other hand, take a look at Asian fashion, their skin color (in a Japanese particular fashion) their skin is tan, sandy color, or just painted brown or orange.) Fashion changes views as well as society. “we all look alike” well in that case, get an eye lid surgery.

hmm… the desire to be whiter doesn’t really come from wanting to be “white”… it’s because way back when only the rich people could afford to stay inside all day instead of out on the fields getting tan in the sun. big eyes are rare in asia so when an asian has big eyes it’s something unique
daffodil / 1579 posts
@sk1nny105@xanga - Exactly what I was going to say.
orchid / 182 posts
I think every race (except Caucasian) has this issue. Mostly because of Western Colonization pretty much. Europeans moved in and all the people who looked “ethnic” were considered ugly & lower.
Look at what happened in Rwanda! They separated people by who looked more “white” and who looked “african” and this caused a BIG ASS massacre because people believed they were ugly & lower just because of what the colonizers said.
Look at Thailand, Africa, Asia, Latin America. All have skin whitening creams that makes you “light and beautiful”. Hell! In the black community (especially in the South), some darker people ridicule me because I am lighter skinned and they believe I think I’m better than them. Which goes back to slavery days when the lighter slaves were house slaves & darker ones field workers.
I just blame European Colonization that still persists…
guest
it’s sad that you’re asian and would post something like this. you obviously didn’t do enough research. first off, asian people LOVE light skin because it’s a symbol of the rich and educated. those with light skin didn’t work on fields out in the hot sun. i’m too lazy to tell you the rest if you were too lazy to do enough research on how asians portray beauty and post this blog
rose / 980 posts
I think it’s all sad that people all over the world are always trying to change themselves to fit their society’s version of “beautiful”. But then again, maybe I should move to Asia. I’ve been picked on my entire life for being frightfully white. lol But it seems a bit odd that Asians would be so invested in changing their look that is genetically their heritage. I do know several Asians who are naturally very light/white skinned so I’m not sure that is wanting to look European. But the eye thing I just don’t get at all. Non-Asian eyes with the crease/double lid (whatever it’s called/we got going on) is not the default for human eyes. But often what is rare is perceived as more beautiful so I guess if some Asians have naturally very light skin and round/double lidded eyes then that would be most valued.

Sticking with the Western definition of Asian beauty. Whenever I look at those models from Asia I cannot tell 95% of them apart, so I stop looking out of boredom.

I, personally, like looking different. (And before you start thinking I’m some sort of off-beat liberal, I would like to make it clear that I’m simply not all that traditionally east-Asian.)
My family has been in America for four generations, so inevitably, I’ll look different. I’ll be completely honest when I say that I hate it when my eyes look too little and that I find that I look strange with darker skin. I just like having big, expressive eyes and lighter skin. Just a preference of appearance, not race, per se.
On the other hand, I like the exoticness of mixed races and ethnic ambiguity. Since I’m the only one of my cousins and extended cousins that is full Japanese, I’m really a minority. Half black cousins, half Irish, a good few Mexican/white/Japanese mixes… I’m frankly jealous of their exotic looks, but I don’t hate being Japanese, by any means.
I think that this post is just a tad ignorant, and I for some reason just ranted a little bit about my perception… which I’m sure no one cares about. Sorry or wasting like 2 minutes of your time. Hahaha.

Its not about trying to look Western. At all.

Just the title alone of this article makes me so angry, and what’s worse is that the author of this article IS Asian. White skin in Asia isn’t considered beautiful because Asians want to look Caucasian (not white, by the way, and by face value of the title, I suppose Asian DO want to look white because they want white skin, not because they want to look Caucasian), but because fair skin is very ideal in Eastern culture. Double eyelid surgery isn’t done because Asians want to look Caucasian, but because it makes their eyes look bigger, and some consider double eyelids to be prettier than monolids (this is just opinion, not fact). And you said you used to be tan and had monolids, and now you have a fair complexion and double eyelids? I suppose you are trying to look Caucasian? I doubt it, otherwise you wouldn’t have written this article. So please do not stereotype, and even moreso, do not stereotype yourself.
guest
There’s already been a post on this, and commenters before me have explained it. So I have nothing left to say.

I have to wonder if it is rooted in thinking if you don’t work outside, you are inside learning or doing something more prestigious, thus if you’re tan you’re poor and have to be outside and if you’re pale you’re likely to be upper class?
guest
White girls do a lot to look darker, and that’s not all healthy, either. I think some of it is cultural, some is just wanting what we don’t have. Personally, I love looking more pale! Not that I think pale is always best (usually I think the tan celebs look better, actually, haha), but it looks way better on me. I have naturally dark, long eyelashes, RED lips, and bright blue eyes. These things just stand out better on pale skin, so why WOULDN’T I want to play up my good features? If you look better with darker skin, go sit in the sun for a bit.

wow what a difference between western standard of asian beauty and asian standard of asian beauty than again, it doesnt surprise me. asians are underrated in america/hollywood. i thought white people love dark asian girls with blonde hair and big boobs???
i think the reason asians want to look pale is because it goes way back. the paler you are, the “healthier” “prettier” and “richer” you are because back in the days, pale skinned people were pale because they didnt work on farms=standing under the sun all day. dark skinned people were dark because they worked on farms thus they’re poor. thats what a korean friend told me a long time ago.
i also want to point out that its not only asians who want to look pale, some african americans want to as well. tyra banks show anyone???
if you’re pale in america and asian, you might be considered a FOB. the darker the better over here~
now in the 21st century, the paler you are the richer you are because you could afford facials, spas, facemasks and expensive cosmetics…to look pale.

standard of beauty in a culture is usually hard to attain. for asians, large, double lid eyes and pale skin, high nose bridge(nose augmentation can you believe that instead of shaving off things to perfect the nose!), caucasians, tanned skin.petit noses
ok. i think double eyelid envy is indeed rooted in exposure to western cultures. c’mon. if you have anything that can counter that. i really wanna see it. in paintings done before any exposure to western cultures, art in asia portrays beautiful women as someone whos pale and HAVING MONOLID!
i have to say though people in asia are so critical of other people’s looks. way more so than the u.s.

@lotte810@datingish: Alright. I’m sorry if I sound snotty but I’m just tired of hearing how “asian girls want to look white.” Its been talked about endlessly it seems, and tyra banks even did a segment on it. I feel like people don’t realize this has been the culture dating back THOUSANDS of years ago where commoners were darker (because they worked in the sun) while the richer people had the luxury of staying inside with fair skin. This is a separation of social classes. Back in the day, even European countries had the same standard. Now Caucasians want to be tan because being tan is the new standard for luxury. Those who can afford to spend the time tanning outside or going to tanning beds are depicted as the more privileged of social classes. Meanwhile, asian countries have still retained their idea that pale skin = high social standard. All and all, it has almost nothing to do with looking like a race (though admittedly some people might want to) the majority just want to look RICH and with a HIGH social standing, like pretty much the rest of the world…
guest
that is just sad, why cant an overall pretty girl just be looked at for being pretty!?
i am extremely unavoidably pale and I have huge round green eyes. . .in the states most people would ask me if I am sick or say that I need to go to a tanning salon. Note to self: Always research a topic before posting about it to avoid looking like an ignorant idiot.
White skin in Asian culture symbolizes prosperity. Tan skinned, on the other hand, is considered lower class because those who work in the fields all day get darker. It’s been around since the Imperial Dynasties in China!
However, I do agree with you the Asian interest with Caucasians. I live in China and it shows every day. I don’t live in a big city so locals aren’t used to seeing white people, so it makes them interested. They can touch a white person’s hair or stare at you for a really long time. Imagine that all of a sudden, you saw an alien. Wouldn’t you be interested too?
As for the Asians who are trying to be Caucasian, that is a problem with their self esteem and confidence. I consider myself Asian, but the kids in my school refuse to acknowledge me as that. I am from Kazakhstan. I have Caucasian brown eyes, curly black hair, and I love tanning. However, I consider monolids and straight black hair EXOTIC. It’s absolutely beautiful! Whereas the Asians in my school envy my what they call “semi-Asianness.”
Bottom line is: people want what they can’t get.
guest
well i don’t use whitening products but i like to stay white as i can (i’m asian). the reason why asians want to stay light is because having dark skin is often related to staying outside, being in the field as workers.

Just saying, I think this is a stereotype?? I have never met an Asian girl who wanted to look like this… but then I have only been to Malaysia and Sri Lanka. My ex wanted to get more and more tanned for gods sake…
Oh and the original point of this comment, Lucy Lui is far far hotter than that other girl
guest
Just wanted to add that the “whiteness” is a factor that most Asian woman want (even if they DO have porcelain skin already) — even from a secluded rural farm village, people still think being “fair” is beautiful.
I, personally like stereotypical “Asian features”.
.
guest
By the way, Lucy Liu doesn’t have dark skin! I think you got the 2 above mixed up.
guest
How the hell can you write something so stupid when you are asian? Lucy Liu is not even dark? And why are you referencing white girls to have double eyelids? Practically every race (WHITE, BLACK, HISPANICS, even ASIANS) has double eyelids except certain asian countries.
you’re a fucking idiot.
guest
I don’t think you’re seeing exactly what the culture really is.
I’m Korean American, so I’ve seen all of the products you’ve talked about. Whitening creams, whitening masks, etc. The eyelid surgery is incredibly popular in Asia, but there are a variety of reasons for it. Yes, there are the aesthetic purposes because it makes you appear more wide eyed and bright. But there are also certain concerns. Because some of us don’t have that upper eyelid flap, eyelashes can get in and cause infection, etc. I don’t have the upper eyelid flap, and don’t intend on getting the surgery, but I can see the appeal. And it doesn’t stem from wanting to be caucasion. There are plenty of Asian girls who are born with the double eyelid.
But because Asians like big eyes (like most cultures) and pale skin, doesn’t mean that they’re trying to look like “white people”. Back in ancient times, pale skin meant you never worked out in the fields, meaning you were rich, higher class, royalty. (Which I believe is a point also brought up by many people who commented this). Personally, I see no difference in those whitening creams as some girls tanning their skin.
Also, the reason why Lucy Liu doesn’t have as much appeal in Asia is because she’s an AMERICAN actress, not a Chinese one. If she were in only Chinese movies and spoke the language well, then maybe she would be more famous there. But the comparison you made about her skin tone to the other picture is wrong. It looked pretty much the same.
I’m sorry if you grew up with a negative view on Asian culture, but you can’t expect it all to come from one place. Just because you grew up in America doesn’t give you the right to say that all Asian people want to be American. Because they really don’t. They love being Asian. (duh)

@my_horizon@xanga - look im not saying anything who uses eyelid tapes or have eyelid surgery wanted to look white. but the standard of beauty has been shaped by europeans. just as long as pale skin has been a sign of beauty in asia, monolids have been thought as beautiful too, even prefered to than large almond eyes. believe it or not historically a pale freckle-less lucy liu is thought to be beautiful. do that survey in china, lets say 200 years ago it will yield very different results. have you seen old paintings in china or those teacups in japan that depict beautiful women? they are pale, pleasantly plump with monolids.

@XoAsianBabioX@xanga - Goooood question! I have never been able to figure that one out, lol. I have grown to embrace my lack of any hint of a tan.

@XoAsianBabioX@xanga - To look like the sun-bathed models that grace the pages of magazines…? Or because they perceive a tan color to make them look somehow slimmer, healthier… You were asking a serious question, right? I’d feel silly if I just answered you and it was just lame sarcasm or something. o_o

@Rammstoner@xanga - It’s not about Lucy is famous or not but is about people in Asian think of her and westerners think of her. You can say oh..it depends on the person, it doesn’t mean everyone thinks like that. I’m just saying in general Asians in Asia think she’s ugly. We even talked about it in class a few years ago. I’m not biased since I’m not a fan of both of Lucy Liu and the other girl up there.
In fact, many Asian girls in Asia want to have white skin, big eyes and straight nose. What race has those facial features the most? White. Don’t forget about the fact that Europeans conquered Asia back to a few hundred years ago so Asians admire white people. You may not want to acknowledge the truth but It’s true. I know Asians now are very powerful in many aspects such as economy, entertainment, politics…etc. Therefore, Asians are very confident and proud of themselves but it doesn’t mean this culture has vanished.
Please understand the whole situation before judging others. This post is not offensive. If you feel offended, sorry about that.

@blackspiders@xanga - it’s pretty sarcastic. my point was that why is it deemed attractive for this culture to be tan, but it’s almost even looked down upon that another culture wants to be pale. because asian girls want to look paler for about the same reason as white girls want to be tan. we just think it looks better. other cultures like to be paler too. it’s just more prevalent in asian culture.

i always got made fun of for my light skin
My sisters have beautiful dark/ tan skin. I’m half filippino and lived in the U.S. my whole life. I’d like to return to the philippines and be loved for my pale complexion lol…

@suuperstar@xanga - it’s like, yeah, i could’ve told the author that, and my extent of knowledge about this subject is watching mulan powder her face white.
so i’m guessing i’m not the only one to notice that there are a lot of posts about asian culture today.

This is a touchy issue because of the unnecessary correlation between Western views and the Asian perspective on “beauty”. I strongly dislike the assumption that Asians want pale skin, larger eyes or double eyelids because they want to look more “Western”. Is it also a Western tradition to have a beard? Who dictates whether Asians strive to look more Western?
From my understanding and what my mother tells me of the cultural preference for pale skin, the obsession with a pale complexion stems from the hierarchial distinction between different classes, between the poor and rich. Rich people were distinguished (at least partially) by their pale complexion because they did not have to go outside and work in the fields (thus becoming tanned), while their poorer counterparts had to work all day in the hot sun. Being paler meant that you were rich enough to not have to labor hard in the fields day in and day out.
Nowadays, the majority of workers are no longer based solely in agricultural work (with the advent of factories and other modern day menial labor) so the application is not as apparent, but the cultural roots still remain.

I’m from Vietnam and when I went back there the first time, I was considerably “whiter” than most of my relatives. My cousin says that Vietnamese find lighter skinned people to be beautiful because the poorer the people are, the darker their skin usually is because they work/live on farms and are out in the sun all day, while the richer don’t have to be in the sun. It’s like, light skin is a sign of wealth, I suppose? I’m not sure how accurate these thoughts are, but all of the women in my family want light skin and so when they go out, they bundle up, even if it’s searing hot outside.
guest
In America, everyone is accepted regardless of their skin color.. in Asia.. yeah, you’re regarded as ‘ugly’ if you have darker skin.
I don’t understand why that matters..as for the double lids thing… well I’ve always thought I look a lot better with it.. I know a lot of girls who do the eyelid tape and glue to make it look better. Some even go to the extreme to get surgery. =T

Came for the picture
no pun… intended…

I am Asian; I have skin color betweem dark and white; I don’t have double lid
Sometimes I feel ugly about myself…
guest
I feel a bit weird about this because I have “European features” – my eyes are big, I have a natural double eyelid, I have fair skin, a small nose, a small chin… And people tell me it’s pretty BECAUSE I look like I have some European ancestry or something.
There are reasons but yeah, I wish Asian girls would just embrace their beauty. I used to wish I looked a little more Chinese. I feel really uncomfortable when girls tell me they’re jealous of my natural double eyelids. It’s not something I’m PROUD of, so why would I get any satisfaction from getting it praised? That would be like praising me for the weather being nice. I take care not to get tan just because I’m very careful with m SPF, so it’s a little better when people say I’m fair-skinned. (Although I don’t match up to the skin bleach fairness.)
guest
The white skin thing is a matter of prestige for Asians. The darker you are meant the harder you worked (in the fields, seriously). If you were pale, that meant you stayed home. Hence, Asians tend to prefer pale skin. In America, however, most of my friends prefer being tan (GTL, anyone?).
Regarding circle lenses –> it makes your eyes look huge. I supposed we grow up in America where everyone has bigger eyes (not just white people, but African Americans, latinos, etc. too). As a result, we want to fit in and we tend to lean towards their standard of beauty. Human nature naturally seeks to fit in. Be it looks or be it fitting in with society (of course conforming looks helps to fit into society). Fitting in meant survival back in the day when we had to hunt/gather for food. This is just my theory.
However, I don’t believe that people that look more Asian are ugly. Most of my friends and family naturally have eyelids and bigger eyes and sharper noses. I myself wish I had the sharper nose. I do believe people should work with what they have and I am against surgery (but come on, contacts… that’s fine… even white people use them…)
Anyway, thats my 2cents.

It’s not that ‘white’ makes them look better, it’s just the idea of having smooth skin or nice skin (meaning no acne or any discolour).

I’ve always thought asian girls are beautiful, dark/light, big/folded eyes, or whatever. But I think white girls are too. And black girls. And Indians. And Hispanics, whatever! I don’t think anyone should try and be something they weren’t born to be, and I definitely disagree with society pushing for it.
But it won’t change.

I think Lucy Liu is one of the hottest people out there hands down. Idk the girl under neath her looks almost white. Its kinda scary. I mean why cant you be who you are. Everyone is pretty in their own way.

I never understood things like that. There is obvioulsy nothing with things like skin color ect. People are different. I don’t get why white people desperately want to look tanned either. I mean I am white, I will never have chocolate colored skin…I will also never have dark eyes, or black or bright-blonde hair, but thats how I look.

Asian skin is more prone to hyperpigmentation and therefore age spots. Who in what culture wants age spots?? That’s one of the reasons why there are so many whitening and brightening products in Asia: even skin tone. Yes, I am Asian and I use whitening products but not because I want to look white. It’s because I just turned 20 and already have age spots. Forgive me for not wanting splotches on my face when I get older. Please don’t assume Asians want to be white. White skin goes way back.

i’m asian and i love tanning.

That reminds me…have you seen Peach Girl? It’s about a dark skinned Japanese teen who struggles to find beauty with her natural self. One problem is that her lighter skinned classmates had kept her down by reminding her that dark skin is ugly. Eventually, some of the guys she encountered and befriended thought that she was gorgeous and skin tone meant nothing to them. Tanned girls were seen as big extroverts and party-goers. The dark skinned main character was nothing like that. She was humble and sweet, therefore her personality made her attractive.
I’m sure there are few individuals in North and Southeast Asia who aren’t too much on the superficial side….I guess they had parents who were happy with themselves.
I believe it’s best to embrace whatever you are born with.
guest
In Chinese culture, whiter/lighter skin is considered beautiful because it’s a luxury to have light skin. If you work in the fields (the low class), you’re darker. It’s a social class status thing. It’s Chinese culture. They’ve been like that BEFORE any Westerns came to China. Don’t assume that Chinese people want to have lighter skin because we want to be like White people.
Americans like the darker, tanned look. Do they want to look like Black people? You don’t see anyone saying “why do Americans want to look like Black people??”
Westerners think that single eye-lids are considered “oriental” so they consider that “beautiful”. A LOT OF ASIANS I know have double eye lids. Does this mean we want to be White?!
And almost every fucking culture wants their eyes to look “big and bright”. Dont tell me that people wear eye-liner, mascara and eye shadow so their eyes can look smaller.
This post is pretty ignorant to me…but at least now (hopefully) people will learn something.

Every culture has its own standard of beauty. It’s totally a preference thing.
However a possible explanation is that for many beauty is about perfection-or always striving for what is unattainable. Thus Caucasians want to be more tanned and Asians (the majority of which have small eyes+single eyelids) want bigger eyes and double eyelids.

I think white girls take style from Asian females. I find Asian women (18-25) very precisely versed on how to style up, doll up with makeup, and still be extremely intelligent to boot. White girls just generally don’t seem to get IT. Whatever IT is, is only known to me, I guess. I just think Asian girls are a step ahead of the game than everyone else. Fuck. I just had a realization: I love cute Asians. :O

I haven’t really used Xanga in years except to lurk… but I would like to say this:
Everyone already covered the white skin part relating to socioeconomic standing in the past… so I just wanted to comment on the difference between Asia’s view of Asian beauty and American’s view of Asian beauty.
I don’t necessarily think that Asia is trying to copy American looks. I think it’s more of a biological thing that I read somewhere that big eyes in general are attractive (no matter what ethnicity) because it gives more of that youthful, alert and awake look, which you would want in a potential mate. Haha, I don’t know if that’s valid.
Also, why Americans find Lucy Liu hot and why people in Asia tend not to doesn’t have to do with the fact that Lucy’s eyes are ‘small’ and because she’s ‘tan’ (there are a lot of famous Asian celebrities who are considered beautiful with smaller eyes and even tanner skin — such as Hyori Lee).
I do think Lucy’s beautiful, but I also know that Asian standards of beauty differ from American standards (another reason why you should know that Asia isn’t exactly trying to look white).I’m Korean, so I actually do know that the oval/egg head shape is what most Koreans find beautiful, which Lucy lacks. Prominent cheek bones are also not really considered beautiful in Korea, but it is almost a beauty ideal in America, which is a quality Lucy also has. Those are just a couple of examples.
So to me, that doesn’t really seem like Asian people are trying to copy white features. Some standards of beauty overlap, but there are also discrepancies. (Besides, if Asians wanted to look American, I’m sure obesity would be the new trend. Kidding — don’t kill me).
Plus, go talk to egotistical people in Korea hahaha, they’ll be all “Koreans are the best looking!” I don’t think they’re striving to look white any time soon.
By the way, a huge chunk of American fashion copies Asian styles (a year or two later, by the way). Not really the other way around.
Sorry — this is probably tl;dr
guest
It actually stems back to ancient China and Japan. A white complexion was seen as noble and aristocratic, especially in Southeast Asia, where the sun was always out. Only those rich enough could afford to stay indoors, while peasants baked in the rice fields.
Based off typical cultural standards of beauty, when I’m in the States I’m too pale but when I’m in China I’m too dark.
guest
I dunno, why do so many white women want to look Asian?
Seriously, look in any beauty magazine in the US or Europe. There are all sorts of articles about looking very, very slim (Asian girls tend to be slimmer than Caucasion girls), having tighter, younger-looking skin (Asians tend to look younger than Caucasion girls) and golden tans (Asians tend to have more bronzed skin than Caucasion girls). Also most models in the West are chosen on the basis of their cheekbones and jaw delicacy. Girls with large jaw-lines (Rumer Willis, for example) are seen as unnattractive in the West while girls with delicate jaw-lines and pronounced cheek-bones are seen as gorgeous. (And yes, Asians tend to have more delicate jaw-lines and pronounced cheek-bones than Caucasions)
The answer here, in my opinion, is that any standard of beauty is based on what is difficult to attain. It’s not really based on cultural hegemony, just on whether a girl looks like she’s taken a lot of effort to look good or not. Three centuries ago, it took a lot of effort for a girl to look fat and pale….. so that was the standard of beauty. Now it takes a lot of effort to look slim, young and tanned (in the US) or pale (in Asia) so that is the standard at the moment.
And seriously? Lucy Liu is see as ugly in China? No kidding? She’s fucking gorgeous……. I just can’t believe that she wouldn’t be seen as beautiful anywhere in the world.

@lildmonkid@xanga - kk Agree

why do Asians want to be fair skin? it’s not just Asia who see being fair skin as beauty, it’s the whole world including the West, Africa, the middle east, etc.
this is one of the effects of history, colonization, the spread of western influence and education, slavery, the media, etc.

@lotte810@datingish - First off: the Lucy Liu thing. I’m not sure where you heard that Asia thinks Lucy Liu isn’t beautiful or that she doesn’t fit the standard of beauty. What I’m pointing out is, how can you think someone is appealing if you don’t know who they are? Lucy Liu’s really not a part of Asian culture. So technically, she should be out of bounds in this conversation, because she’s American. Born in Brooklyn, middle name Alexis, only starred in American sitcoms and movies…Unlike someone like Lee Hyori who was born in Korea and is one of the dominating pop culture icons in all of Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, etc. Most people in the states don’t know who she is, and she’s as tan and as beautiful as they come.
Second: Asian culture spans thousands and thousands of years. You need to do your own research instead of automatically saying “Well, Westerners took over Asia at one point. But now that there’s kpop and stuff, they’re starting to find their confidence!” Because they have had quite a long and bloody history way before they even came in contact with Caucasians, and as someone pointed out in another comment, the artwork from that time period clearly reflects women with pale skin.
Third: I don’t understand why you wrote this: “Please understand the whole situation before judging others. This post is not offensive. If you feel offended, sorry about that.” Your post wasn’t offensive, but I’m wondering why you believe that my post is…
Have I made a judgement that could be completely wrong? I don’t really think so…This girl posts here that she’s been ridiculed for not fitting Western standards of beauty by her Asian parents, and yet the rest of us are telling her (whether politely or not…) that being Asian doesn’t mean you’re ugly. And being tan doesn’t mean you’re ugly. And not having a double lid means doesn’t mean you’re ugly. It came across to me (and you be the judge here) that she is chastising all Asian women (stemming from her own insecurities) for trying to appear like white women.
NOT ALL ASIAN WOMEN WANT TO LOOK CAUCASIAN. Just looking at all the outrage from all of Asian women, Asian American women, and just women who have commented on this, I think that is a valid point to be made.
That’s all I want to emphasize. And you can argue with me on that. But I think you and I both agree that Asian women are beautiful, no matter what, just like women of all races.
guest
I wonder the same thing.
An Asian friend of mine told me straight up that she thinks Asians flock together because they think they’re ugly because they don’t look white.
I don’t know if its relevant, but I’m half Asian.
Sometimes I get odd stares from Asians if I’m hanging out with my Asian friends.
guest
it’s sickening for that to be considered the standard of “beauty.” beauty doesn’t have standards!
guest
STOP. Asian girls want to be lighter skinned not because they want to be white or Caucasian, it is because in the ancient times in China, the lighter skinned women were deemed as rich or well off because they did not have to toil in the field like the other dark-skinned women. As for the eyes, Asian women/girls want to have big eyes because it depicts a more youthful look, not tired like small eyes make it seem. Double eyelids/circle lens aid in helping eyes look bigger.
In America, tan is considered beautiful because it shows that you are rich enough to not work and lie around in the beach all day or go out shopping, unlike the pale blue collar office workers.
In Mauritania, extremely fat women are considered beautiful because it shows you are rich to have enough food to eat.
Each country has different standards of beauty, stop asking questions when you don’t even do research on them.
guest
ancient topic is ancient.
You did grasp on to the basic point here, so I won’t completely disagree. The grammar and phrasing could be a little higher than middle school writing level to make the argument more convincing though. The title comes off as sounding assuming and downright ignorant. It is true that Asians living in Asia are heavily influenced by Western pop cultures, which leads most young folks to wanting to look like their idols, or simply what they are exposed to on a daily basis. However, to think that anyone who ever wanted to change his/her features to resemble Caucasian features is a hugely misleading assumption. Light skin by itself is not something completely novel to Asian culture, and neither are large eye shapes. Though it has become an rapidly growing trend to obtain light hair, skin and eye colors because of media influences, there are still few who change his/her appearance just because it’s something different and new.
Overall though, you’re just opening a can of worm by posting this topic where the audience are Asian Americans who already have assimilated to American diversity and individualistic culture and therefore have little to no experience of growing up in that culture in Asia where the media is 85% skewed by a Caucasianized view of Western society.
guest
Each race it’s own group of people who seem like they want to look like another race. But, I have no idea why any Asian girl would want to look white. Asians are some of the most beautiful people on the planet.

@x___nancy___x@xanga - Well it is Lovelyish.

In terms of fair skin, Asians like it because it is a sign of wealth? If you’re tan, you are looked upon as a worker, someone working in the sun all the time.
Lucy Liu isn’t even tan though… and she looks half anyways.
guest
The entire thing is looking like what there is less of people tend to see rarity as beauty…
Blue eyes every one loves em and often
And lol all the white girls that I know that tan don’t actually want to look gold anymore… they wanna look like carrot people since everyone went gold…
Also being a hispanic girl I notice it also depends on where you live… I’ve had people comment on me being just a little to dark and others saying they wish they could tan like me.
I noticed with black /Hispanic/middle eastern women, the more creamy skin tones are perceived as most beautiful by the majority. Not super pale and not super dark but middle ground.
I think it’s silly any skin color is beautiful, any one can appear to be beautiful on the outside if they take care of them selves properly. Take care of there skin even skin tone no matter the color, clean. features
I don’t mean makeup and fashion and all that(although it’s fun it doesn’t always matter.) Beauty is a personal thing, and has anyone noticed that a persons beauty changes once you get to know them personally…
I think it’s fine to admire different traits and features but to compare is weird because not everyone’s perception of attractiveness is the same.

My best friend in high school was 1/2 Caucasian and 1/2 Japanese. She was very tan and slim-same size as I was and I was a size 3. She lived half her life there and half here in the U.S. She was Gorgeous. Long silky hair, and tan. She told me many crazy things about what it was like over there, the fact that she was skinny here but had to buy “Large” size clothing over there, and the fact that her being so tan made her an outcast. She told me I was what she wished she’d look like. I didn’t understand because I envied her exotic beauty. She said I was what most Asian women strived to be. I have a straight Caucasian nose, big blue eyes and full lips and I’m pale as a ghost. I found it odd. But reading more and more into it… I’m no longer surprised. I find it so unbelievable that these beautiful women want so badly to change.
guest
1. More than only white people have double eyelids.
2. Light skin is found attractive because a long time ago the poorer people had to work in the sun, while the regal people would be indoors. So dark skin = poor. Light skin = wealth. The idea carried on without knowing the reason why in our generation, so people assume that Asians want to be white.
guest
I seriously have to disagree with this, and while I do know A LOT of Asians who prefer to have light skin, being Asian myself, I also know A LOT of Asians who prefer to be tanner. In the end it all comes to personal preference and what culture you were brought up in, and I don’t think it’s right that you should generalize million’s of people’s different cultures just because the Asians you know prefer lighter skin and double eyelids.
For example, I’m an Asian teen growing up in California and one thing I know is true about our culture is that diversity is key. I have long curly hair and am very tan because I feel that I look better with darker skin and I’ve never been sun burnt in my life. One of my friends on the other hand likes to keep her hair straight and likes keeping her skin very pale because a) she gets sun burn easily and b) she feels that she looks better with lighter skin than she does with darker skin. That’s her choice and this is mine.
We’re both Asian. HOWEVER, just because I like my tan doesn’t mean I’m trying to look Black or Native American or Hawaiian or whatever; and just because she keeps her skin very pale doesn’t mean she is trying to look white.
And on top of that having light skin in Asia is a HUGE cultural thing even before the United States came to be. Skin color used to separate social classes in Asia hundreds of years ago and that kind of transferred over the generations.
It’s all about CULTURE.
Hasty generalizations is only going to get people on your case. Quit it.
guest
Excuse you = =. Just because you’re from Asia, it doesn’t give you a right to say things like that without any other “source”. What about the Asian girls that naturally have light/fair skin and naturally double eyelids?

“I’m originally from Asia and I remember a girl was made fun of by my classmates because of her dark skin.”
And in America, I get made fun of all the time for my pale skin. I’m pretty sure I’ve heard every “Haha, you’re pale” insult in the book. It is no different than white people rushing to tanning beds to become tan, yet no one criticizes them for wanting to look like [insert dark skinned ethnicity here]. I’d also like to add that during my many years in Korea, I’ve seen a lot Korean men and women tanning.
“In recent years, circle contacts have been fab in Asian countries. Those contacts make your eyes look rounder and bigger like the animation. In Asia, around only 30 percent of population has crease on their eyelids which is common in Caucasians.”
I’m white and I want bigger eyes as well >.> I’m pretty sure it’s not exclusive to Asians. And I’m also pretty sure Caucasians aren’t the only ones with double eyelids -_- In fact, plenty of Asians have it NATURALLY.
This argument is just stupid.

My family’s from South Asia, but it’s generally the same concept. There hasn’t been any ‘recommendation’ of products that I HAVEN’T gotten from South Asian family friends and whatnot about making my skin lighter, where as many of my Caucasian and Latino friends say that they love my skintone. At the end of the day, we all just want that which we cannot have.
But OP, I am curious. How did you go from being really tanned in your childhood to being really fair now?

@Kodomo_no_Tsuki@xanga - agreed. lucy liu is still considered gorgeous in asia and the second picture doesn’t do what asians use as a beauty standard justice.
@Helenaaa85@xanga - i agree with youu. esp stars in korea, a lot of them have small eyes
as well there used to be a period where japan people were obsessed with tanning themselves. so obviously not everyone who’s asian wants to be more light skinned. and i’m pretty sure i’ve read a post like this before.

@nyfemme@xanga - I stand by my comment because this person must of been ignorant to think that all Asians wants to be “White”. The poster could have use so many other words to indicate that maybe some Asians like to be pale but this person didn’t. This person generalized that all Asians wants to be White and that is ridiculous it is like saying White people who tans wants to be Black. I am not criticizing this person view but this person needs to have better word choices.

in terms of skin, i think ppl always want to be different. asians hate their yellow skin, so they wanna be white, cuz it’s pure looking. white ppl hate being white & pasty, so they want to tan. seriously, how do asians in asia feel having pasty looking legs while wearing a summer skirt? i buy whitening lotions cuz i have freckles. i would like my skin to just be one colour, instead of having brown spots scattered throughout. so yeah, i’m helping the market but i’m not buying it cuz i wanna be white! i guess i don’t care about the contacts thingy cuz i have pretty big eyes & natural double eyelids (almost triple eyelid but just the corner, so you just see the typical anime ‘Y’ shape) but i would like bigger irises/pupils. i wouldn’t get it to look like white ppl either. cuz i don’t think they have particularly big irises. i just think it looks better to have more brown than white in your eyes, don’t u think?

@scorpio_81@xanga - ”in terms of skin, i think ppl always want to be different.”
Exactly what I wanted to say. That is why so many coloured people try to make themselves pale, and pale people try to get a tan. Curly-haired people straighten their hair and straight-haired people curl their hair. People just want things that they don’t have and try to be different to stand out.

I’m not the OP but I myself was pretty tan and then I had my first child and I’m not so tan anymore
Also I’m anemic because of having a baby so that may be why I’m not so tan :/
I miss My creamy dark tan…

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head here. In Asian cultures,
especially in Japan and Korea the ideal of beauty is to look as
Caucasian as you can. A lot of people deny that, but it’s as plain as
the text on this page. While pale skin had always been popular in many
Asian cultures, the fact that almost all Korean and Japanese celebrities
have had surgery to obtain more western facial features is a recent
thing. The trend popped up after America’s little stint in Japan. Where
women’s makeup used to accentuate Asian features before hand, after
America dropped in the trend shifted. Double lids were never recognized
as THE beautiful feature to have, nor were raised pointy noses, oval
faces or big round eyes.
In Japanese art pre-America this is easily seen. Women are painted with
rounded faces, a flatter face plain that includes a rounder button
nose, high cheek bones, smaller almond shaped eyes with no crease and no
blush. Post-America suddenly the new makeup trends are painted. Women
started contouring their faces to create false shapes and shadows. False
creases created with powder, contouring around the eyes to create a
rounder eye, contouring around the nose to create a more raised profile,
and contouring around the face to create a more oval shape and wearing
pink/red blusher on the eyes and cheeks to create a different skin tone.
This change in trends can be seen in both written documentation, and in
post-America artwork.
Why? Basically America came into Japan doing what it did best at that
time. Showing off their technology, and making fun the Japanese culture
and their racial features. A good example of this was the rapid
disappearance of the “chonmage”. Aka, the hair style made popular in the
Edo period, popularized by the Samura, which became a symbol of high
status. Just about every boy got this hairstyle when they hit puberty.
Then, it vanished when America hit. Why? Because they basically saw
something that was different and made it a laughing stalk. American
soldiers even went so far as to pin men down and cut the ponytails off
of them, which was a symbol of disgrace in Japanese culture.
Sadly, this mentality is still apparent today. Open a Japanese fashion
magazine. How many girls do you even see with black hair? One? Two? Out
of over 50 girls. Most of whom are sporting bleached hair, or wigs.
Curly blonde, wavy red, light brown hair all over Japanese media, all on
girls who have double lids, and are all wearing contacts that make
their eyes blue, green, gray, hazel, light brown. Most girls who have
had surgery to raise their noses, who have had their jaw and cheek bones
shaved down to create a more oval face. All features common in white
people, most not even natural in Asian people. Even the skin bleaching
is in there. Even though pale skin was always popular in Asian
countries, the rosied skin was not. Many caucasian people naturally have
a rosy completion where Asian people do not. Blusher was never popular
until post-America. Even modern photoshopping reveals this preference in
skin tone, where a naturally pale Asian woman’s skin’s tones are
changed from a warm or neutral shade into a pink cool shade in the
colour selector.
One cannot say that the Asian media does not still hold the western
ideal of Caucasian beauty over the traditional Asian ideal when even
male celebrities have bleach blond hair, with blue eyes, double lid
surgery, jaw and cheek reconstruction, and nose surgery all procedures
that change the Asian facial plain to resemble a western one. Double
lids may be natural in the Asian phenotype, however, the percentage is
far lower naturally than what is reflected. Under 30% of Asian people
actually have this trait naturally, however, nearly 50% of Japanese
people now have double lids thanks to blepharoplasty.
Girls as young as 12 are being taken to get this surgery by their
parents. 12 year old girls, getting plastic surgery! In Thailand, the
plastic surgery capital of the world. Plastic surgeons preform an
average of 12 blepharoplasties a day. Most clinics can have roughly 9
doctors each preforming these surgeries independently. There are
260 working days in a year, that means that one surgeon is preforming an
average of 3,130 blepharoplasties a year! One clinic will pump out an
average of 28,080 blepharoplasties a year and that number is going up.
Interestingly enough, like with most surgeries the client will bring in
pictures of what they would look the final product to look like, usually
those pictures tend to be celebrities. In Thailand the most common
celebrity photos that were brought in in 2009 were Jessica Alba, Scarlet
Johanson, and Taylor Swift. These three women’s features were popular
in requests for blepharoplasties (eye reconstruction) , rhinoplasties
(nose reconstruction) , Orthognatic surgery (jaw reconstruction). All
three women are Caucasian celebrities from America, and yet are more
popular in the Asian world of plastic surgery than Asian celebrities.
That is no coincidence, because the Asian media still considers western
beauty superior to that of Asian beauty and tells the Asian public that
everyday as well until they believe it themselves.
Though these clinics are in fact Thai, the majority of their clientele
are not Thai themselves. Thailand sees most of it’s tourism these days
from people traveling there to get cheap plastic surgery. So much so
that now in travel brochures coupons for plastic surgery clinics are
offered. The majority of these tourists were from Japan, Korea, and
China.
Another huge trend is false eyelashes. Even if an Asian person does
naturally have a double lid, it is extremely rare for Asian lashes to
grow upwards or even straight out, or to be thick. It is an evolutionary
adaptation for Asian eyelashes to be short and to grow down to protects
the eyes while not impeding vision. However, everywhere in the Asian
media long, thick, skyward lashes are advertised via the use of false
lashes. There is nothing Asian about such lashes, not only are they are
western invention made as movie props, they are a western ethic features
as well. Not until post-America did Japanese women start doing anything
with their eyelashes, where as the former trends was simply to apply a
thin line of black eyeliner and to leave the eyelashes untouched. The
ideal of doing anything to your eyelashes pre-America would be akin to
styling your nostrils, it just didn’t happen. False eyelashes in Asian
media is just another tool like coloured lenses used to mimic western
features and hide the natural beauty of Asian features.
So many people deny the fact that the ideal of western beauty has been
put on a pedestal. So many people deny the fact that the world’s
population has been brainwashed by western media to believe one
perception of beauty. But deny as they might, the facts are there, plain
to see. There is nothing Asian about an Asian girl with bleach blonde
hair, wearing blue contacts, with double lids, fake eyelashes, pink
blush, a nose job, and a shaved jaw.

I know this post is old, but I don’t understand the whole “Why Do Asian Girls Want to Look White” post. There are Asians who are born with light skin and double eyelids naturally. Case in point.

I’ve never met a asian girl who wants to be white. It’s all a conceited supremecy LIE some ppl made to boost their pride in their race to make this rumor up. Researchers showed asians prefer beautiful NATURAL asian beauty who naturally have double eyelids and features they admire, mixed asians came 2nd place but never ever pure white person. A lot of times asians going into plastic surgery will bring in pictures of Vivian Hsu or whatever. It doesn’t make sense to me why ppl would assume they want to be white when they are only trying to look like their other counterparts or the other half who naturally have double eyelids. It would only make sense to say that if they never possess this feature to begin with or if ALL asians have monolids… what’s the problem if they want to enhance their features and look like the other % hence why they are going in looking better but not asking for thick deep set caucasian eyes. This is like me saying caucasians who get nose reductions probably want to look asian… Get Real ppl. white girls who dye their hair black do not want to be asian either. I also want to clear up something…when asians want “white” skin.. doesnt mean they want to have “white” ppl skin. White ppl and white color are completely different things. I have tons of SouthEast Asians who want “white skin” (again, white doesnt mean white ppl skin) like some chinese, koreans or japanese (east asians) WHO NATURALLY have white skin. It’s rare for me to see a caucasian person with white skin… real white skin i see is from asians, it’s white, clear and one toned. (so i guess i mean to say… asians just wanna look like other asians… HEY asia is huge.. it comes with many different shapes, skintones and facial features, i know some chinese ppl who have huge schnoz bigger then caucasians) Caucasian’s white skin has freckles, or pink-toned, or it’s not as thick as asian skin so you can see the veins, or blue/purple from the thin skin, red spots, or broken capillaries. So obviously they want to have that natural asian white skin, NOT caucasian white skin (tho i never seen white ppl with white clarity skin) but i can see why dumb ppl would confused and associate white skin with white ppl.
I can go on and on. My point is.. think before you say something.

far eastern people have more porcelain skin in nature white people.
peony / 3 posts
chinese and janpanese have the most porcelain skin in the world. Skin tone is much better than white people in general. Indeed, the porcelain and delicate skin is the most beautiful thing God give to them. That is why white people are so jealous about it and talked a lot about it.
peony / 3 posts
I would like to give suggestions:
1. white women and men should be working hard on the research for skin.
2. how to make white women skin look more like far eastern women skin, milky porcelain delicate, smooth, and fine, etc.
3. how to make sure white women skin has no hair on their body.
4. how to make sure white women skin has no freckles.
5. how to make sure white women skin not turn white (when they are young) into pinky (when they are older like middle age) and even further into dark brown (when they are aging olderer).
6. how to make sure white women nose become smaller (like women not like men).

It’s simple really. Because Western (i.e. European) culture is the dominant culture of our time. In Hollywood movies, TV shows and music CD covers that are broadcasted & exported/distributed all over the world as the golden standard, all the mainstream media are being dominated by Western industries which feature White actors/actresses & musicians as sex symbols. Hence the perception of beauty, attractiveness = European physique & facial features

because most asian girls wanna look unique not self copy like most asian are asian are already pretty but bigger eyes better and pale skin in every country makes you look better .And in americastereotype are better than prettier and its not original.and western tv doesnt do that to girls .for example samela hayek is not popular in mexico or latin america or spain because she dark and the truth is she didnt make it huge in mexico so she moved to america to get a better job and only roles she gets are only stereotype. in mexico the only roles are given to ligther mexicans and in american darker mexicans you see on tv .but know offense .ok just saying what i think mostly in every country the whiter you are the better

@suuperstar@xanga - they don’t… everyone all over the world want to look what is considered beautiful by other people, they want to be accepted,, at least the dumb majority of people anyway….. and it just happens so, that the media and the world is run by AMERICA, which is a white country full of white propergander… the whole world sees whit emodels all over the magazines,, they watch movies and see white stars, ect ect the list goes on, it is white man propergander…. so the whole world not just asians, blacks spanish indian ect, consider white features to be the pretiest, because whit epeople say so… (america)…. and most people are too dumb to think for themselves and go along with peer pressure… to be accepted…
maybe you should try researching and looking up the amount of WHITE girls and men,, that want to look asian,, WHY??, because they love asian movies, and fancy asian men, or asian women, they hooked on asian culture…. you can google it, you will see SOOOOOO many whit egirls on youtube that want to be asian, and want to look asian, that put make up on their eyes to look more asian… tan their skin,, dress and act less trashy!! PML… and when china take over the world… pffttt, believe me you are going to see alot of unhappy whit epeople wanting to go under the knife to look more asian, i assure you…. people will be getting mono lids… they will make their noses smaller,, make their face less long… it is simply peer pressure…. all races are beautiful in their own way… and i am an asian guy, i am handsome as hell and proud of my looks.. wish everyone else could be too.. nooone wants to look white, that is not the point, people want to look what they think it smore acceptable to them, or too their mate….
google it, research it,,, their are tons of white girls that love asian men, that want to look more asian….
peony / 2 posts
@paris93 - being overly white is not good either,, and it depends on the individual, its about not being TOO dark… because if you are too dark it just doesnt look good,, but halle berry and jessica alba, jennifer lopez and incredibally beautiful… yet they are darker than any cameron diaz,, yet FAR better looking… its just not being TOO dark… or even TOO white… it all boils down to american propergander… everything comes from america , it is the standard of the world at the moment… but thats gonna change to china pretty soon,… so i think the perception of beauty will change ALOT… and white people will want more tanned skin and asian looks… its already happening, white people are already tanning and spray tanning to look darker…. there are soooo many white people darker than me now… it is rediculous.. at the end of the day, everyone just seems like they are unhappy with themselves and want to be someone else,, its kinda sad… beyonce and rhianna bleach their skin to look white, and white celebrities are tanning their skin to go dark.. pml….. i am glad i love being me..

Because the media has made caucasians the epitome of beauty. They make sure this view is enforced. Therefore, all the other races want to look caucasian. Even though Asians are very smart and should have pride in their genetic traits, asian women want to mix their genes with white genes, ignoring the superiority of the asian genetic make-up. Even worse , they want to look white. In USA, I watch asian girls pursue white nerdish guys who are rejected by white american girls, it is very embarrassing.
In scientific studies, for example, you never hear that the highest rate of breast cancer and melanoma is among white women or white subjects, scientific studies always emphasize the incidence rate of diseases in races other than white.
Races other than white have been brainwashed over the years to think the white race is superior.

@kornypony -
Not true. If you take an asian girl and transform her this way:
1. Whiten her skin2. Eye lid surgery to make eyes bigger3. Contact lenses to make eyes seem bigger or of a different color4. Hair dye to make her hair look anything but black.5. Nose surgery or nose clip to make nose more caucasian
You have erased any asian trait form such woman. All her modifications are aimed to make her look caucasian, in other words…admitting the superiority of caucasian females.
If men can get a hold of the original…why get a FAKE? Example: Tiger Woods only wants the original version, very important man in society, and politicians only want the original versions. Therefore: Embrace and respect your own ethnicity. No offense. Otherwise your inferiority complex will be very evident to the world.

All topics of “Why Asian girls want to look white” is very misconceived. Asian girls are trying to look American, not white.
This is very important to specifically state that the asian girls are NOT trying to look white, they are trying to look American, because this is gonna throw off all white guys perception about asian women. All white guys are gonna think “hey asian girls are trying to look white?? hell yeah! that means its ok to ask asian girls out on dates!”
