Everybody has some kind of gift or talent, but let’s face it, some talents are more practical or impressive than others. Although I’m happy with my gifts, I wouldn’t say no to being a Renaissance woman and becoming a winner at everything. I could always pick up some new skills, but the learning process would be so much quicker if I had a natural tendency for those things to begin with. Here’s what I wish I had a knack for:
1. Impressions. Talk about an awesome party trick. Since I’m quiet and insecure in big crowds, I’d love to entertain others by mimicking quirky celebrities. I’d also love to do a YouTube video of myself talking in a number of foreign accents.
2. Being able to learn languages quickly. I’d love to be a polyglot. Wouldn’t it be amazing to travel around the world without the help of a translator or a language book? If I knew over five languages (right now I can speak only English fluently….fail), I’d either become a super successful businesswoman, or I’d become a scholar. I’d also love to read literature that was translated into English, such as Pablo Neruda’s poetry, in its original language.
3. Songwriting and performing. Do I even need to explain this one? Every time I listen to a good song, I wish I were musical enough to write and perform a creative cover.
4. Dancing. I’m a terrible dancer. My rhythm’s pathetic and my coordination’s laughable. How I would love to go to clubs without embarrassing myself. I swear, when I’m at a club, every other pickup line I get is from a guy who offers to teach me some dance moves and to help me relax. So embarrassing….I’d rather be one of those girls who can take the floor without looking like a drunken try-hard.
5. Illustration. I could make cute hand-drawn cards and work at Disney or Pixar.
6. Charisma. Does this count as a talent? Maybe it’s more of a gift. Whatever the case, I get tired of being super awkward, self-conscious and rambling in real life. I’d love to be so likable, charming and smooth so that I could talk my way out of (or into) anything.
7. Cutting wit. How I’d love to deliver perfectly-timed, eloquent comebacks to people who throw shade at me.
8. Photographic memory. Studying would be so much easier if I could read something once and remember it perfectly just by imagining that page in front of me.
9. Being a dog whisperer. For the most part, my dog is cute and well-behaved, but she won’t obey me when I give commands or ask her to come over. I’d love to connect with animals on a deeper level, perhaps summon them to do my bidding….
10. Cooking. My grandma’s an incredible cook. She throws seemingly random ingredients into a pot and produces a sumptuous meal. If only I’d inherited her ability to recook leftovers into a magnificent feast, or to sample a dish and know exactly how to modify it.
Are you happy with your talent? What talents do you wish you had?

i think all these talents can be learned. except for the dog whisperer thing haha but it would be nice if these talents were natural and they just came to you :]

You have talent…….you haven’t tapped in to what you can do, that’s all. Doesn’t make sense to envy someone else’s talents.

Being a polyglot kinda sucks sometimes, because when people learn about it, they can’t stop saying things like “OMG say _____ in X language!!”. It also brings not as many career opportunities as people think I know this as a person who speaks about 7 languages and a few more at basic or intermediate level. You can definitely become one… just learn a second language that is not in your language family and move on from there. Like if you know English, learn Arabic or Russian… for Spanish, learn German, etc. It gets easier after that.
I’m an “academic” type talented person… I’m great at math, physics, languages, I’m a good novelist and writer. So school and uni is easy. It’s the rest that sucks.
I wish I was more sociable. I’m really really really shy. I dread social situations.
I also can’t cook anything at all. It’s by the grace of god I can boil water.
And I’d really like to be able to be good at a sport! Any sport! I go to the gym but I can’t play team sports well.

I’m happy with my talents. I cook, I write poetry and music, I sing, I paint, and I play 6 instruments. Everyone has a talent, trust me.
I wish I could speak more languages and be good at physical feats, but I’m more than happy with what I know how to do.

For some strange reason i’m really good at creating parody songs on the spot.

7 is my speciality
I used to figure skate for about ten years but I quit after high school, and can’t do half the things I used to do. I guess that’s still a talent, even though I know I’m completely out of shape.

@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - I agree with the language bit. I’m a polyglot, I guess you could say. I have a hard time liking people after they’ve bugged the shit out of me to translate things for them. My friends are nice enough to cut me some slack.
I wish I could do impressions.

I realized recently that when people would ask me what I like to do, I’d respond “read” or “take photographs.” I take decent photos, but I have a DSLR without knowing how to do manual very well, so I could definitely work on that. I’m currently trying to teach myself some other stuff though. I want to learn Italian. I was just in an Italian-speaking country for 4 months but didn’t learn much, though I’m going to Rome for ten days in two months, so I want to form a good sentence by then! Other than that, I’d really like to learn how to ski and how to knit. I’m realizing that I’m capable of cooking when I actually attempt. I also wish I had the talent of making friends easily. I’m pretty reserved so sometimes people take it as standoffish rather than not having much to say for lack of the ability to start up an interesting conversation. But yeah, I mean, I guess there will always be talents that we wish we had. I think you’re capable of most of the ones you listed though! Just give it time.

I literally have no talent. So I wish I had one talent.

#8 is wonderful to have but also makes you quite lethargic.

My talents include ballet, writing, and annoying people. =P I have British wit (runs in the family) but that only pops up if it’s a great day. I wish I could learn languages quickly (and make them stick!), and I wish I could do photographs. I take a lot of pictures, but that’s with my digital. I learned it once, but ever since then my family has been bashing my creativity… which really sucks.

God has made each person with a certain gift or gifts that is unique to only them in which they can glorify Him with (1 Corinthians 12:10-11). You have certain gifts that make you wonderful & God has given them to you for that reason, because each person is unique & wonderful in their own way! It is up to us to seek God & as we do, He will show us what our gifts are. Sometimes we can ask Him for a certain gift (like the talent/gift of music/singing), & He will give it, but only if it is to His glory. Sadly, there are many people who do not know who they are created to be, a child of the Living God, so they misuse their gift or don’t use it at all. Once we know who we are in Christ, we will activate our gifts & be able to use them to our utmost potential in a way that glorifies God & is unworldly.

I’m very happy with the talents God has blessed me with. There are some things I wish I could do. Some of them I will never be able to because I don’t have the ability, but some of them I probably would be able to do with a little practice (like cooking). I can cook, but I don’t take the time to finesse my skills. But I will be doing that this year seeing as I’ll be getting married in a year or so, I’ll need to be able to cook for my hubby.

Social. Some people are outgoing and can make friends whatever the situation. My Dad dated this fat pig bitch who isn’t as smart as she claims to be but has super outgoing personality (she won’t shut-up) and has success because she knows how to talk to people. I can sing, a little bit.

Unless sarcasm is a talent, I have none. I can be a bit witty, sometimes. I don’t really know what my talent is and I can’t wait to find out what it is!

I am very grateful for the talents that I do have and the fact that I’ve been given an environment where I can develop them. I can paint, draw, write poetry, play 3 instruments very well and a handful of others not-so-well, but I could if I practiced them. However, there are times when I do wish that I was a decent runner and good at at least 1 sport. I’m sure that if I practice and train I can be decent at running, but I have always sucked at all sports. ALL of them. Actually I’m a sort-of decent pool player, but I wish I could be good at another sport that isn’t played in a bar

I wish I had charisma and cutting wit, too. I’m trying to make it as a professional musician, and I know I’m a good singer and composer, and most of the time, I’m a decent cook, even though by no means a professional chef! And I like being good at those things. I just wish sometimes I wasn’t so awkward.

How about you stop wishing you had these talents and be grateful for the ones you have?

Even “talent” takes work. People who claim they have no talent are most often people who just don’t want to stick with working on something.

I wish I could write songs. That way I can write songs for my voice range, which is unusual for females, and make it hard for other women to sing them! (Well, there’s transposing, so I guess it really doesn’t matter.)
