According to the South Korean company Nabix, if you are lonely, too busy to date, or in need of a girlfriend, then you’re in luck! For $1.99, the “Honey It’s Me!” app features an attractive twenty-something girl named Mina who will video call you with special “girlfriend” messages three or four times a day.

You can pick from 100 pre-recorded phrases, which include “Are you still sleeping? Time for breakfast!” and “Good night, sweet dreams.” For those who can’t speak Korean yet, don’t worry! English, Chinese, and Japanese versions are also in the works.

Apparently, the response has been overwhelmingly positive and during its free trial period, the app was downloaded 80,000 times a day. Users have tweeted that the app “a blessing for all single men.” Another says that “Mina called me while I was working overtime. This is just great.”

While I don’t want to judge what provides other people comfort–and I think this is definitely a better girlfriend alternative to RealDolls–I know this virtual lover would just make me feel worse about my loneliness because while Mina may call and talk like a girlfriend, she isn’t. A girlfriend doesn’t just speak in canned phrases; a girlfriend means conversation and connection.

What do you think? Would this kind of app console a lonely you?
