Jonathan Adler, the home decor designer known for pushing the envelope, is currently selling a variety of cheeky pillows, including this one above, which is labeled with a slogan Kate Moss recently made infamous: “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.”
Adler obviously appraoches his pillow making with a healthy dose of irony (he has one emblazoned “ANGER,” and another “DRUGS”), but still, encouraging eating disorders is never cool.
Do you think this pillow is inappropriate, Lovelies?

very inappropriate. eating disorders should not be encouraged or supported. contrary to what some pro-ana’s belief, eating disorders are NOT a good thing.

It is whatever people choose to make of it. It’s a little twisted, to be honest, but I see a lot of people defending it saying it’s motivation.
I really don’t care either way.

Definitely inappropriate :/
I hope I don’t find this stuffed in any stockings I see!

It’s just a pillow.

What I would like to know is who would buy that? You couldn’t give that to an anorexic friend. That’s cruel.

I don’t think it’s necessarily supporting eating disorders, it does if that’s what you make it out to be! I agree with @airbornerose@xanga - I’ve used this saying as motivation to keep me eating healthy, because even though bad food tastes good, it doesn’t taste as good as skinny feels. But that doesn’t mean I have an eating disorder.
So it’s really what you make it out to be.

I’m looking through the other needlepoint pillows on his website….and they actually look really good (fun, festive, decorative)- until they get ridiculous like this one.
But the anger one doesn’t look too bad, I was expecting something worse.
If he wanted to make a statement or motivation piece- that Barbie pillow he had seems pretty statement-worthyhttp://www.jonathanadler.com/Barbie-Needlepoint-pillow/?cat=347&initial=

mmeh its kinda dumb. i dont really care however ha

For one, it’s ugly. Who would want a pillow that says that…
Secondly, it’s rude, but if someone wants to buy and sit on it, by all means. lol

As someone who formerly suffered from anorexia, I’m pretty sure that no real anorexic would be that obvious about their eating disorder anyway (emblazoning it across a tacky pillow for all to see…?). Only wanna-rexic pro-anas and the like. So whatever.

UGH INDEED and should not have been posted here at all, don’t you think? Let’s not encourage the misguided belief. Sigh

To each their own…I like it

Don’t like it – don’t get one. I think it’s neat personally :] Like the sound of the ‘drugs’ one. It’s just irony.

i would buy it.

haha i lvoe it! i loved this quote from kate <3 and now it’s on a tacky pillow loveeeee.

it seems like a good reminder. imagine putting it on your couch where you usually plop down with a bag of chips to watch some tv and then BAM you have that in your face. it would certainly make me put the food bag in the cabinet.
and on another note, i saw a graphic that crossed out the word ‘nothing’ and put in ‘cupcakes’.
i lol’ed, i won’t deny it XD

This is disgusting.
guest
I love it.

no more inappropriate than “drugs.”

It’s not very PC, but a pillow isn’t going to give anyone an eating disorder.

No, it’s not inappropriate. He made a pillow and you know what, it’s going to sell. If i saw that pillow on my couch as I sat down with a cupcake I would throw that cupcake out. Motivational pillow for meeeee, pro-ana for others. But i still dont think this is motivating anorexics.

I think it’s just dumb. If I went to someone’s house and they had it on their couch, I would probably sit down and fart on it. Ok maybe not….but I would want to. But I guess it’s their house and their decor, so if they want to pay money for it, whatever.
guest
lol no it’s not inappropriate, though it may not be everyone’s taste. haha i’m still laughing at it XD
guest
That quote does not exactly have to be pro ana.

DUDE I LIKE IT…….and I am not a wannarexic. True that I would prob hide it from my mum when she came to visit but I like it cheekiness.

I like the idea of using something like needlepoint (traditionally considered woman’s “dainty” work and often used to convey “moral” messages and platitudes) to make pretty cushions with messages that are the absolute opposite of what’s expected.
Of course it’s not appropriate – it’s about making something that’s harmless or kitsch into something entirely inappropriate. That’s the point. I’m not saying it’s genius (I think this ground has been well covered) but the juxtaposition is still amusing.

Who cares?
It’s. A. Pillow.
In the end this pillow isn’t going to “give” anyone an eating disorder. It’s no worse than all of the blogrings here on Xanga.

I think it’s tacky but whatever, we have free speech in this country.
On a humorous note: My Nana has this slogan on a fridge magnet, but puts half-and-half on her breakfast cereal. LOL

I don’t think it’s that bad. Though I personally wouldn’t buy it.

The “DRUGS” or “ANGER” are whatever.
Pro-ana is always inappropriate.

I’m sure it’s not meant to encourage eating disorders; I think it’s meant to be funny, nothing more.
