The holiday season is quickly approaching. I’ve finished my Christmas shopping for everyone except for one particular person. Yeah, that’d be my best friend. He’s been my best friend for 4 years, we’ve dabbled in dating, but lately it’s been rather inconsistent. Our relationship takes after a Taylor Swift song most days. So now the time comes to get him a present.
No, I don’t want to get him a sweater, or an iPod, or socks. I need something that says “Hi, we’re best friends, but this will remind you everyday how adorable and perfect I am for you.” Let me tell you, it’s not an easy gift to find.
I need help lovelies! Any suggestions?

I don’t really know WHAT, but make him something. Handmade gifts are usually best for “hi we’re best friends but I want to remind you how adorable and perfect I am for you.”

@sempermedusa@xanga - God no. Well… what do you suggest should be handmade? lol.
I am curious to the responses too. I haven’t been with him for 4 years but I’m broke and I need help with this too.

My contribution to the blog would be something he can use. Guys love something they can use everyday. You’re right about the sweater, don’t go there.
If his wallet is torn, and old looking. Buy him something very similar to it, the same structure. NO VELCRO!
Replace something that’s been broken and he needs to use. An ipod/iphone dock for his car maybe.
My suggestions may suck for your guy but stick with the idea of something he can use everyday.

@crashthedr3am@xanga - No idea. I don’t know his tastes or your artistic abilities.

@sempermedusa@xanga - I suck at using my artistic abilities. I can probably build something if I buy the pieces. No drawing or paintings. I want to make him something.
He loves to cook. Handyman. Does it himself. Outdoors type. He’s quite the catch.

@crashthedr3am@xanga - hmmmmm. I makes it hard because my own artistic ability ends at writing and beading. Becuase my first though is “tackle box” or “spice rack” but while these things are very useful, they don’t really have the “awwww factor.” I don’t know if you can sew at all, but maybe a wallet with a picture of both of you in it?

Hmm, when I first read this post I thought, Wow, whoever wrote this is reading my mind… but then realized the situation is kinda different. I also need a xmas present for my best friend ( i wouldn’t have waited so long, but i didn’t plan on buying her anything…) we’ve been friends our whole lives so it’s not like a big deal if we do or not..some years we do, some years we don’t. but i found out she’s buying for me, so now i feel obligated. plus i’m moving 200 miles away, so i want to get her something special.

@lttlegel - if she’s a jewelry kinda girl, you might get her a “grown up” version of those little plastic beaded name necklaces/bracelets. you know, silver rather than white and black, smaller and not so gaudy. that way she can wear it, and it’s a little reminder of you even when she’s far away.
as for the OP, there’s always the cliche of his favorite band t-shirt since he’ll wear that all the time, or a belt, but those are a bit boring. if you’re looking at the upper end of a price range, try getting him a game that he’s been eyeing, be it for ps3, xbox, whatever. maybe the season of a tv show he likes. if you’re willing to lean more towards the romantic, trying making a book with pictures of you and fun things that you’ve done together. and now i’m out of ideas

I made my boyfriend an adventure book from the movie up. I had sewed farbic and felt on a scrapbook to mimic the cover then got pictures from his friends and family to detail his life from birth to that day. Then for big occasions (graduation, birthday, christmas, going to college) or funny little advenures I make another page and add it to the book. The in the back I had everyone close to him either make a page, or they wrote him a note and I made a page to go with it. A year later its almost 150 pages long. He didn’t really like it but hes sort of an ass.
But since that took me a few months maybe you could just do one for the two of you? Put funny pictures, ticket stubs, write quotes and memories in there. Then maybe in the back write him a note about how much he means to you.
I also included a copy of “up”. Its cost about $150 for everything so far, but i’m not very creative so I bought a lot of stuff.
Good luck!

I’d make him a tie blanket. They are pretty darn easy and just require cutting and tieing. Just find two peices of matching fleece fabric and go to town! Just make sure its long enough.

I’m not sure if this would be appropriate, but if you know how to knit/crochet, you can make him a throw or a scarf.
I usually make my best friend a scarf, and this year, hopefully a throw. Good luck!

I made my boyfriend/best friend a blanket. Best gift I have ever given. I was so proud of it and because I took the time making it I felt like I put a lot of time and “me” into it. He could tell too, so it made it extra special and “aww” for him.

@caitlin_no_bueno@xanga - the adventure book! omg that’s an awesome present

i felt like i was reading wats in my head! i have a best guy friend whos been in my life for 3 years now and we tried the dating thing and it was just weird but we sure act like a couple! haha i usually make him a picture collage of all the fun things we’ve done in the years we have been friends and then get a blank frame and write on it quotes that fit us perfectly! its pretty easy on a computer to make the collage and that means no worries about getting all sticky or cutting ur fingers and things like that! haha good luck!

Well, if you don’t know what to get him… Isn’t that a sign you’re not perfect for him?

I, like you guys, have bought everything for everyone except my bestie. You would think there easy considering we know them best. NOT. I want this gift to be really special and take the place as “best gift” giver. She’s told me all she wants was a pair of shoes, a snowboard fleece and one other I can’t remember. However, I feel that isn’t good enough. I need suggestions. /:

Make him a blanket. You can make him a no-sew fleece blanket. http://www.allkindsofbabystuff.com/no_sew_fleece_blankets.html
you can make this blanket for anyone really. Also, I try to update about gift ideas on my own blog so check it out. =]

Make him a bracelet. I’ve done this both for boyfriends and best guyfriends and it’s always a hit. I’ve made my boyfriend a new one every summer, and they tend to last for around a year, without ever taking them off.
You can do a really simple hemp one, takes maybe 45 minutes and super easy or you can spend a little more time learning and do a friendship bracelet esque thing. For a guys bracelet I tend to just get thicker hemp or go for wider, more dull colored bracelets.

I’ve found that the best way to do it is to just tie it straight on his wrist, no need for a silly clasp thing.
