Here in New York, mother nature is being very fickle, and her daily mood swings are throwing my closet for a loop. My favorite leather jacket has me sweating out my morning coffee, while my teeth chatter on the way to the 6 train in a lighter oversized sweater. My search for a trendy piece that has just enough bulk to keep me warm on a chilly day, but not enough volume to smother me in the sudden fall sun, led me to a combination of classic winter outerwear and boho-chic styling. My pick of the moment: The Fur Vest. Of course, as a vegetarian and animal lover I have to support the faux options, so scroll through these cozy throw-overs without wondering if you’ll get hit with a bucket of red paint on the street. 

The smokey color of this Club Monaco vest ($198 at shopbop.com) really emphasizes the volume of the shawl collar and makes the fur look rich. I especially love the way the oversized lapel looks when the vest is closed.

Kenzie’s faux fur vest ($88 at Macy’s) is easy on the wallet when it comes to this season’s vests, and has a laid-back hippie vibe that I’m digging.

This Rachel Roy design ($149 at Rachel Roy) keeps your waist narrow with a strategically placed leather belt, which also adds a feminine flair to a trend started by Vikings.

This Romeo and Juliet version ($131 at Bluefly.com) has a built-in belt at your waist to keep your silhouette slim. Plus, the studded accessory adds a punkish charm to a classic piece.

Come to mama. If you can’t (or won’t) shell out $375 for this Halston vest (available at Net-a-Porter) at least ogle it for a moment, or add it to your holiday wish list.
