Researchers claim that the perfect face is the most average face. More specifically, it’s the ratios, between the eyes, and from the mouth to the eyes that determines attractiveness. Women in photos were perceived to be the most beautiful when the space between the pupils was just under half (46%, to be exact) of the width of her face from ear to ear. Also, when the distance between the woman’s eyes and mouth was just over a third (36%) of the overall length of her face from chin to hairline. Some celebrities who have this ratio include Jessica Alba, Liz Hurley and Shania Twain.
What I found even more interesting was an experiment attempting to create the most beautiful woman in the world using Photoshop. They took 16 of the most beautiful faces, separated them into groups of four, and took the average of each group to create the average of the averages. Here’s what it looked like:
Pretty gorgeous. What do you think lovelies? Is she the most beautiful girl in the world?
orchid / 129 posts
The composite image does look cute.
I’m so sure of the young lady in the first pic. Her chin…
guest
The composite image looks good, but again, it’s all relative..
everyone will have a different opinion, and I don’t think there can be one “the most beautiful girl in the world.”
it’s just not possible.
guest
I guess white sure is right.
guest
She can pass as Megan Fox’s biological daughter.
guest
the result looks like Jessical Biel to me. I personally think Jessical Biel is a very pretty.
guest
I thought this would be one of those inspiring posts that talks about how the most beautiful woman is the one with confidence and every single one of us are beautiful.
Guess not. I’ve seen this post before but I see beautiful in a bunch of people so I don’t need a chart to see what IS beautiful.
guest
…there is a significant lack of diversity in these women. As in, there are no other races. I wonder how different the final picture would look if someone compiled average-looking women from several races.

wow, so no hispanic, asians, blacks are on this. just white persons. glorious. the master race is the most beautiful after all. *rolls eyes*

lol and there we have it…race card. take it for what it is, don’t bring race into it.
guest
i agree she is the most beautiful girl! perfect symmetry!!! almost as perfect as me…almost.
guest
Every person has a different idea of what beauty is, I don’t see why they even bothered to do this. All of the girls individually are more attractive than the final result.
guest
@shake_things_up@xanga - Haha. That’s cute. You believe in something like the race card. Even though the most “beautiful woman” is compiled of white women. Not even, as someone else mentioned, Hispanics, Asians, biracial women, Middle Eastern women, or any other ethnicity. And considering that there are more people of other ethnicities than white on this planet, yes, it will be hard for the majority of us to accept THIS as “the ultimate beauty.”
guest
@TooComplicated2Explain@xanga - My thoughts exactly.
This is VERY flawed. Who decided whom the 16 most beautiful faces were in the first place?
I think Angelina Jolie and Kristin Kreuk are gorgeous, but I don’t feel the same about Charlize Theron or Jessica Biel.
Someone else could think the exact opposite of my opinion.
Instead of conducting useless, flawed experiments, these researchers need to do something significant with their time.
guest
@shake_things_up@xanga - Oh, nevermind. You can ignore my last comment. After looking at your name, it wouldn’t surprise me if you were just a troll attempting to get people riled up. Too bad I don’t get riled easily…I do loving shutting people down, though. Haha. Moving on.

The only real beauty up there is Kristin Kreuk. Oh, yeah… And that first picture. I forgot her name.
guest
@ohletitbe@xanga - Totally agree.
orchid / 130 posts
The world does not equal just people who are “white”. The only other race represented here is Jessica Alba who I think is Mexican? and Kristin Kreuk who is half Chinese. Our standards of beauty here could vary compared to other places in the world too. But yes, the final composite is beautiful, but I don’t think the most beautiful. …
guest
the girl in the first picture – i am SO glad you didn’t mean her; i took one look at it & thought “ew…?”
the outcome, though, is quite beautiful.
sunflower / 309 posts
You should’ve inlcuded some of the history behind the average face
it’s actually very interesting
It started with scientists trying to take the average of serial rapist faces to try to see what the average one looked like, and it proved a failure, but they did find that the composite images were are very handsome men
also, you don’t have to take the average of beautiful faces to get a beautiful average face, you can do any face
there’s a website for that
it might be this http://www.faceresearch.org/demos/average
it wouldn’t open for me, so I’m not sure

pretty, but a bit bland…
i guess its subjective.

Most of the after pictures look like Natalie Portman imo.
Which obviously means she’s the most beautiful
guest
Aside from people getting pissed off about race, I though it was a neat composite coming from a mathematician’s point-of-view. It was just something fun…people need to calm down.
guest
I’ve seen a photo very similar to that last one, actually…in my psychology book.
Just because this particular study used the 16 “most beautiful faces” that someone else had decided on, the study in my book used 40 something women, of all races, and created a composite, which as I mentioned, looked similar to the one above.
The primary point of this article is that scientifically speaking, “most beautiful” is “most average.” It’s all about symmetry and such. Anyone heard of Marquadt’s symmetry mask? It’s essentially a mask he designed with everything in perfect symmetrical proportion. If you think about it, this makes sense, as average the faces of the entire world should lead to symmetry, right? His studies have found that the world’s “most attractive people,” as judged from the celebrity pool of ANY culture (meaning, all races) have been known to be a much closer fit to the mask than most “normal” people would be.
So yes, this particular article is biased, and the setup was not adequately explained. But the result is still valid. The science behind it still stands, and I find it fascinating.
guest
Not in the world.. Maybe the most beautiful Caucasian. I’ve seen the Korean version- and it was also gorgeous.
sunflower / 291 posts
@miszHoneyy@xanga@TooComplicated2Explain@xanga - – More valid studies have been done with a randomized sample of faces from the general public. This was just a study done with celebrities, I’m not sure where it comes from or if it really meets appropriate research criteria. If it is a valid study, the 16 “most beautiful” faces were most likely chosen based on surveys or ratings from the general public. Oddly enough, the “averaged” attractive female faces end up looking quite similar no matter who is used. Of course, all of the research I have looked at in this area is of white women, but there might be a study using African American women or other races out there.

out of how many women that there are there? and kristen kreuk is like half asian. everyone else is brand spanking white.

i do think she is very beautiful – or perhaps pretty is a better word? for me, beauty, even physical beauty, comes also from the personality and life inside, which of course a composite image doesn’t have.
she might perhaps qualify as the most beautiful *caucasian* woman in the world. another one should be done with beautiful faces from other races.
guest
@porcelain_alice@xanga - She’s not Caucasian. The chosen photo’s not really telling, though.
guest
What I’m most confused about is the correlation between the two halves of this article. While the composite is comprised of mostly Caucasians (movie stars who have been hand-picked for their beauty and sometimes their talent), the most beautiful woman in the world is actually Indian (which no one seems to realize because that photograph is neither very telling nor is her name given): Aishwarya Rai.
I’m really surprised no one else realizes that last fact; she’s been the most beautiful woman in the world for something like 4 years minimum. And she is gorgeous. Abso-freakin’-lutely gorgeous. You have to be blind not to see it.
As for the race card, it is a valid point, @shake_things_up@xanga, especially in “white-washed” Hollywood. I mean, you can take it for what it is–yes, those women are beautiful for some reason or another–but then what’s the point of being able to comment on these posts?
ranunculus / 3457 posts
Anyone who believes this lacks a part of their brain. Not all of the women used here are gorgeous (Jennifer Love Hewitt and buck-tooth Hillary Duff? Really? And IMO the only thing pretty about ScarJo is her lips and her tits…), and it’s purposely excluding anyone who isn’t white…. with perhaps the exception of Jessica Alba who would rather be anything than Hispanic.
Where’s women like, say, Tyra Banks and that Indian actress… her last name was Rai….?
I think the “finished” woman needs a nose job. Then again I’m real picky about noses. This just proves the thing to be highly subjective…
Which brings me to my last point. I’ll bet anything most of these actresses have had at least one plastic surgery. So they’re not as genetically blessed as we all think they are.
guest
there’s no color. its just white.
and c.theron looks like a foot.
hydrangea / 75 posts
I guess it depends on how you understand beautiful to be.
She’s perfectly proportioned though!!! I could see that face being on a hollywood star! haha
Going off on a tangent….Perfectly proportioned doesn’t always equal beauty in my book. Truly beautiful people radiate beauty from within so much so that you FORGET their proportions. Now, that’s REAL beauty.
Cliche much? But it’s true. I’ve experience it countless times in my life and I think it’s so amazing that while strangers may be remembered for their looks, friends are remembered for their beautiful personality. Seriously, think about it. If I you say Charlie, I remember his tone of voice. If I say Min, I remember her voice and laughter. If I say Jerica, I remember her being so active it killed her to have to sit in class for 6 hours a day.
Hehe, I love life. =)
Happy reading guys!! Life is so beautiful, just step back and take in the view!!
guest
No, I think the separate faces are prettier than the composite. I think women are beautiful in different ways. For example, Anne Hathaway is extremely beautiful, but so is Megan Fox, but in a different way.The composite looks very plain. What about different skin tones?
daisy / 512 posts
People seem to be forgetting that Kristin Kreuk is half Asian.

She’s pleasant-looking, but a bit boring. Her face may have perfect symmetry, but in addition to lacking the idiosyncrasies that make the knockout, it lacks certain qualities indicative of health and fertility.

She looks pretty average to me.
guest
Beauty is still subjective. Even if 99.9% of the world chose one person as the most beautiful, there is still one-tenth of a percentage who would disagree.
And the girl in the first picture is odd-looking. Her mouth doesn’t look like it belongs on her face. And her nose frightens me.
tulip / 21 posts
wow, people are really sensitive about race. this is a godamn experiment about beauty, not a time to express discontent about being a colored person.
symmetry is the key here. personally, i think the composite from the second batch is prettier than the final product.

Question: why are they all white? I mean, some of them are darker, but really, they’re white. Aren’t black women beautiful too? I always thought black women in general were prettier than white women (but that’s just a personal opinion)
Also, does anyone else think that composite looks like Barbie?

Even though the final image is beautiful I can say that it is only a fignment of imagination because that face doesnt exist. I will also say that I have seen much more beautiful faces in my life right here where I live and on internet. Therefore my conclusion is this. The final image is not the most beautiful one in the world.

Great post! Phi is my favorite number! 1.61 something, I forget but doing it by memory hah. They also say the phi number applies to everything from logarithmic spirals, sea shells and even “hot” bodies to things that we will find beautiful in nature.
This is a great post. I’m huge on my math facts on these things hah my only qualm is that this ration also applies to guys and I’m farrrrrrrrrrrr from having it apply to my face
Oh well, can’t argue with numbers!
@Momo_Wakahisa@xanga - lol wut? Well, studies show this report applies to people of all races. According to one I read, female nurses (of any race, and even when black or white) who approach babies only a few days old will have the babies stare more often at the nurses who’s faces fit that reported ratio.
@shake_things_up@xanga - Word! No reason to bring race in.

A. Rai is damn hot btw
@snarkius@xanga - YEAHHHHH MATH!
@llunachick2319@xanga - ooo Yes i’ve heard of Marquadt’s mask! I’ve tried to superimpose it on my face and it didn’t match up a lot
Guess that’s why I fail at life hah
guest
@hitomineko@xanga - That’s actually a good point.
But I don’t think plastic surgeons need this “info.” Because don’t people go in knowing what they already want? And the doctor just does whatever it is the patient wants? I think they really wasted their time with this :/

I guess photoshop and and some of the best makeup artists creates beauty. The angles at which these pictures are taken creates that ‘symmetry’ Have many of you seen these actresses in movies or in paparazzi shots. There’s your beauty.

She is really pretty. I think anne hatheway and angelina jolie morphed together are gorgeous as well.
sunflower / 316 posts
@TooComplicated2Explain@xanga - Actually, there’s a site somewhere online where you can select a bunch of random people from different races and get a composite image of them, and the point of it was to highlight that the more mixed someone is, the more attractive they get.
guest
I love Ashwaryia Rai <3
guest
perfect symmetry but she looks fake.. no one is that perfect, I think it’s the little imperfections that make even the most beautiful look so attractive..
guest
I can’t believe this. Where are all the beautiful women with different ethniticities?! Besides, Halle Berry should definitely have been used for this, as well as many other beautiful non-white women.
guest
there’s such a thing as too perfect…the final product is rather boring, sterile. doesn’t look like there’s anything human underneath it.
hydrangea / 78 posts
@Momo_Wakahisa@xanga - they took the women who had that ratio and combined them. it had nothing to do with skin color. also, the woman in the first picture is an indian actress, she is not white.
guest
I think it’s the most perfect woman, not the most beautiful.
beauty is deeper than looks. They didn’t chose the right words, that’s all.
guest
I think she’s beautiful! I love an attractive woman. Hahahaha.
guest
I guess I really don’t care about races considering I didn’t even pay attention that they were all white.
Ps, Kristin Kruek & Jessica Alba are mixed (along with others probably). Not the same as using ladies who are full other races, but still.
To answer the question, she is pretty pretty
I wouldn’t say the most beautiful, but very pretty nonetheless.
guest
there can never be a “most beautiful.”
adjectives are purely opinions. there will never be one woman that is the most beautiful that every single person on the earth can agree on.
guest
It looks mostly like Charlize Theron to me. I think the most beautiful of this little experiment is Scarlett and Natalie’s mix. But beauty is completely abstract and subjective…so a “most beautiful” anything is impossible for all to agree.
guest
@Starry_eyed_gypsy@xanga - I agree!!
guest
Not all of the celebrities pictured in the experiment are 100% “white.” Like someone previously mentioned, Kristin Kreuk is mixed Chinese and I’m sure some of the others might also have biracial heritage. The final pic is pretty but can’t say the beautifulest. I actually think the first pic posted above of Aishwarya Rai, former Miss World, (also dubbed “the most beautiful woman in the world”) looks better than the end result pic. She just exuberates confidence, sultriness, and exotic beauty.
magnolia / 1017 posts
what i really want to see is a truly randomized sample, not just american/european celebrities (most of these women are of mixed ethnicities with predominant caucasian features, not really representative of other races)

@black_lie@xanga - she still looks predominantly caucasian.
guest
@Starry_eyed_gypsy@xanga - Agreed. I was thinking.. there’s no blacks! Where the asians at?? white supremacy.
guest
First off, people are taking this entirely too seriously with the race thing. White supremacy??? Calm down.
Secondly, there is no definition of beauty. It is subjective, therefore rendering this post moot. (And annoying)
guest
Very interesting. The end result is very ideal. I noticed that the faces were white with few exceptions. I call bullshit.
guest
I think all the women’s faces included are beautiful, but the result seems almost… too neutral, if that makes sense. =/
daisy / 557 posts
gotta love that there is no other ethnicity represented. so no, i don’t think she is even close to being the most beautiful woman in the world

@snapeful@xanga - If we’re just talking about race representation here, that doesn’t matter to me. It’s enough for me to know that 5% of the pool (or whatever it is) is Asian.
Having people in this study who look representative of their race is a different issue.
Also, I think she looks pretty Asian, but that is just me!
magnolia / 1017 posts
@black_lie@xanga - Yeah, it was a celebrity thing anyway so it’s not a big deal. I don’t think she looks too Asian, but yeah…. That’s just me! It’s very subjective.

The girl in the first photograph is Indian. She’s Aishwarya Rai, and was Miss World 1994. And yeah, I think she is beautiful.
I just did a Google search for “the most beautiful woman in the world” and the majority of images that come up are of Aishwarya Rai.
guest
why are all of these women white? ethnic women don’t have beautiful faces? sheeesh.
guest
everyone is beautiful
guest
@Starry_eyed_gypsy@xanga - AGREED!!
guest
It’s interesting that the calculations for a beautiful face has nothing to do with SHAPE like nose shape, lip shape, eye shape, eyelid shape, cheek shape.
But yes, the composite picture is very beautiful.
guest
Why are they all white?
guest
So of course, you know most of the girls who read this are going to start whipping out their rulers and looking in mirrors to see if the proportions are in their faces as well.
guest
@jACy_BaBii@xanga - They’d probably do it separately for each race maybe? Easier to photoshop LOL. Still, we have to keep in mind that this is, perhaps, the most beautiful AMERICAN face and what AMERICANS find aesthetically pleasing. If we did this with British/french/indian/etc. celebrities, the results would of course be different. I don’t think so much that all this is an attempt to define universal beauty but to show a composite of what one culture in a certain country finds attractive in a very general sense.
guest
Heard of the number Phi? It’s something like 1.618.
Biologists and mathematicians call it the Golden Ratio, because it can be found almost everywhere in the world. For instance, the number of female bees to male bees in a beehive.Works on the human body too. In fact, I hear that’s how some face modelling agencies go about choosing their models.
guest
Wow. I scrolled down to the results before looking at the process, and I thought, “That looks a lot like Natalie Portman.”

Kind of bland. She looks like the renderings of the Virgin Mary that I’ve seen.
Also there is a very uniform idea of beauty among these women. They all have similar features and they are all light skinned women. I guess anything else isn’t beautiful at all. And it’s cute how many of the comments here are in denial about the power of the Anglo cultural norm which values white features above all others. So cute it’s sad.
In short, this is bollocks.

@miszHoneyy@xanga - mMM actually I don’t know if the patients know what they want. It only looks bigger because my bone between my eyes is not high enough. @BayCat - I went on that website and definitely reaffirmed that I personally find biracial individuals more attractive. I guess I like my skin tones averaged out too! (must be why I think Indian and Middle Eastern women (and men!) are generally more attractive)

@hitomineko@xanga - I’ve always disliked my nose :/ But I’m too afraid to get any kind of surgery.
I’m starting to become “OK” with my nose, since I figured it fits my eyes and lips.
I like the ulzzang look with big eyes, small nose and thin lips, but I can’t fit that look perfectly because I don’t have a small nose or thin lips.
I’m gradually starting to accept this. I’ve seen cute/pretty girls with the smaller faces, but there are many Asian celebrities that have different kinds of faces (ie. Song Hye Kyo, Honey Lee, etc.), and they are still beautiful.
So you don’t need to have those specific features to be beautiful.
