“Equality is the prime rib of America, but because I am gay, I don’t get to enjoy the greatest cut of meat my country has to offer. Shouldn’t everyone deserve to wear the same meat dress I do?”
- Lady Gaga at a Portland rally to repeal the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law.
It turns out that the meat dress Lady Gaga wore to the VMAs was not to state that she “was not a piece of meat.” In fact, the dress was really to represent gay rights. I wonder what other references she will use to make about the meat dress next. [PopEater]

Her metaphor doesn’t make that much sense. It’s a stretch. Who looked at the dress and said, “Gay rights, of course!”

Can we be finished posting about this freaking meat dress already!?

ugh.

God she’s so full of shit. She’s one of those art majors-types who think they’re a big Effing Deal because of some absurdity or they used menstrual blood in a painting.
“Look, look, I’m so SPECIAL and sooo UNIQUE!!!”
I like her and all, but… she’s a singer. Not a martyr, not a hero. How about we give this credit to Harvey Milk instead.

instead of arguing about whether or not her metaphors are silly, why don’t we just applaud her for standing up for gay rights, sign her petition and move on… there’s so much hate on lovelyish, it’s kind of ridiculous.

i feel like you should stop hating on Lady Gaga. i feel strongly against the entire ‘gay equality’ agenda but doesn’t mean i’m going to go around hating on it to people.
if you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything at all.

@holdthekeys@xanga - gay agenda…? Dear lord….
daffodil / 1975 posts
Look at her trying to make sense. It’d be hilarious if it weren’t so sad.

I don’t really have a problem with Lady Gaga trying to rally support for political goals. She has the power to, and she should use it! I definitely don’t agree with things she says about whatever but I can’t blame her for trying to help out a cause she feels passionate for.
“Oh, shes such a poser!” blah blah blah. You’ve got to realize, she’s such a success because she’s different. Even if it is a little insane, whatever. She does what she has to in order to keep herself in the public eye.
Many of you don’t realize it but you do the same things in your own lives! Except on a smaller scale. You try to stand out to impress a guy you like or you try to be unique to get a job and get that promotion at work or impress a professor and the list goes on.
Anyways, everybody can have their opinions. Everybody can speak about those opinions. Even Lady Gaga. You don’t have to agree with her opinion and I’m sure not everybody agrees with yours either.

Honestly, why the hell do we care?
She isn’t a political figure, not a social scientist…she’s just a singer. Sure, she can feel however she wants about things, but she doesn’t need to make such a statement by wearing a goddamn meat dress and tell us how to feel and where we should stand on political issues.
She does shit like this because she wants the attention, and sadly we give her just that.
@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - omg I agree. Man…you’re like one of the smartest people on this Lovelyish site imo.

@betterdesigned@xanga - How can you say it’s sad? She made PERFECT sense, and some damn good valid points in that speech. Her music has absolutely nothing to do with her rights, and her freedom of speech. After hearing that speech, I became very serious about gay rights. She is my hero and my IDOL. Go GaGa & Go GAY. If you don’t like it, GO HOME.

@britnirm - I like how people automatically attack my comments but the more mean ones go ignored. Haha!
Anyway, the cause isn’t sad. Her logic is. It’s too bad almost no one sees this.

@TheGirlWithIdeas@xanga - There are two flaws in everything you said; Lady Gaga is not at all original and not everyone desires to impress others.

@betterdesigned@xanga - I didn’t say Lady Gaga was original. I said she was different. Which she is. There is absolutely no denying that. And for the second comment you made, you may not realize you’re doing it but in life, it’s a must.
You’re not gonna get the job if you don’t try and stand out against the others. You’re not going to get promoted for doing the same job as everyone else and not striving to do more. You don’t have to “desire” to impress others. But you do have to do it–Whether you realize you’re doing it or not.

@bAbiiExxPiNay@xanga - That’s why I ignore her. Her music is so-so anyhow for a singer..I could care less for her.
@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - You’re so smart =) Smarter than most commenters here on xanga..seriously. You’re right. She’s only a singer and nothing more…

i feel like shes setting back people who actually do make sense.
guest
…no shit?
guest
I don’t get her…. lol

Whether or not her symbolism is clever or far stretched I think the point of the dress was to make a statment, get people to notice and get there attention so that way she could voice her argument about the gay rights issue. And all of you who think she’s trying too hard and blablabla, get the fuck over it. You are just haters. A celeb is always in the wrong in the average person’s eyes and it’s really quite annoying. So because she’s a singer she cant be smart or have a philosophy of her own? She has to be some follower that fits into a boring, redundant mold? Fuck that. She will never conform to that.

I don’t see the correlation between the ‘right’ to eat meat and wearing it as a dress…

I love Lady Gaga but come on. You’re title of one of the “top most influential people” is going to your head. Also, I have noticed that she’s changed her reasoning for wearing this dress a few times. I think everyone knows the real reason.. to “wow” everyone and get your name all over the media. I’m all for gay rights but I honestly don’t think she’s going to change much.. she’s not the first one to stand up.

i love lady gaga she’s doing alot of things that are helping with gay rights and personally i dont care how she does it…..i think its amazing what she’s doing.
guest
I think someone could use her as a role model. She stands up for what she believes in regardless of what anyone says.

What i find funny is the fact that everyone is looking at “dont ask dont tell” as though it is hurting people when in fact it was made to keep people equal. how many soldiers do you know that would want to shower or share a tent with someone that they knew were gay if they were honestly against it? the dont ask dont tell policy was put into effect to protect the rights of others. and to keep everyone equal. if we start saying im gay or im straight then you are going to have people that are biased and rude soley because of someones sexual preference. if we dont know what each others preferece is then we cant judge each other.
I have no problem with people that choose to be gay but i know that personally if I knew someone was gay i would not want to be naked in front of them.
guest
Maybe like saying I WANTCHO MEAT would be a good meaning but…..uh. She doesn’t make sense. Ever. But that’s what makes her so entertaining. She’s nuts.
guest
Her intention is just to make sure her message gets out…whatever it is, but gladly they sound like positive messages to me, even if she have to do so by dressing differently from what we consider the “norm.”
I can honestly say that I love her more than her pop music.
TheSaturdayMatinee@xanga - Behhhhs. They’re just practical people who are just simple-minded thinkers but hardly touched sensibility. Nice display picture.

Lol. Gay rights and meat makes no connection, Gaga?? But btw, she looked so cute in the picture!!

That was not the message she was trying to evoke when she wore that dress.
She’s full of shit.

@ever92 - I think it’s funny when people say things like “She’s a lesbian! I don’t want her seeing me naked!” or “That guy is gay, man… I can’t play skins.. put me on shirts..”
Just because someone is a lesbian or gay doesn’t mean that they are going to stare you down in the shower or even remotely think you are cute. This is the military. Come on.
Do you stare down every naked man you see? Maybe you don’t see a lot of naked men but if you did, would you? I hope not. Just because someone is gay doesn’t mean they don’t have the same courtesies as straight people do– if you’re caught staring at someone, you look away, don’t you? Why wouldn’t a gay person? Why would you assume that a gay person would watch you shower?
I’m just curious as to why you have that kind of opinion.

We all saw. We all heard.
Now let’s move on.

@TulleSkirts@xanga - True that and hah thanks.

I wonder how the LGBT community feels about the meat dress…
guest
I’d say she’s using her influence for good, but to be honest, most of her fans already support gay equality…so it’s not like she’s swaying votes or anything.
guest
Imagine the gays who are vegetarians reaction to this.
