I have been enjoying these albums. I thought I’d share my recommendations…
1. Eminem- “Recovery”-
After his struggling with addiction, Slim Shady is back! With great tracks featuring Pink and Rihanna (can’t stop singing “I love the way you lie”) this album is a great comeback album for him. Some may his songs sounds the same… but he is one of the best rappers our generation has seen. No complaints from me! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a Lady Gaga and Marshall Mathers collaboration! Hehe
2. Karen Elson “The Ghost Who Walks”- Yes ladies and gentleman, the Louis Vuitton campaign model can sing! Ms. Elson collaborates with her musical husband, Jack White (of the White Stripes) for her debut album which is flawless. Such a soulful, unique voice… you can’t help but be captured by it. I have a such a girl crush on her. Buy it now and you won’t be disappointed!
3. Katy Perry “Teenage Dream”- Don’t be fooled by the overly pop song “California Gurls” (which quite frankly got on my nerves). This album is a really great pop album, much like Lady Gaga’s “The Fame” was (if you don’t agree… then maybe pass). There are the catchy songs you dance too that have a playful flair to them “California Gurls” and “Peaccock.” To the touching ballads like “Fireworks” and “Not Like the Movies.” I never purchased a Katy Perry album before but I haven’t been able to stop repeating the album since I purchased it. I highly recommend it!
What do you think of my list? What album would you recommend?

I completely agree with all of these.
lovelovelove Karen Elson.

I’ll pass on Katy Perry and Eminem; maybe I’ll check out Karen Elson ..hmm

You know, I don’t want to sound bitchy here, but… these posts should have more unknown stuff. I mean, we all know about Katy Perry and Eminem, so why remind us? There’s some fabulous unknown artists that don’t get pimped out and marketed as much because of lack of funds.
Will check out Karen Elson.

If you like Lady Gaga, you’ll like Kerli because that’s who she was inspired by.

I don’t get it. “Don’t be fooled by the overly pop song “California Girls”, this is a great pop album?” Kind of contradicting.. Eminem’s CD was a huge let down and so far Katy’s new CD is terrible (I haven’t had a chance to listen to the whole thing), “peaccock” being one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard. Her first album was better and I listened to it nonstop buuuut I guess that’s what happens to any successful artist. And I agree with someone who commented before me about recommending artists that everyone already knows about.. kind of pointless, plus Em’s CD has been out for some time now.

Suburbs- Arcade Fire.
guest
bruno mars! not out until october, but his singles are amazing.

best CD this year by far:
Blind Guardian – At the Edge of Time
by far the best CD I have heard this year. Only Kamelot or Winterspring may be able to surpass it.
guest
i wanna buy katys album
guest
Recovery is definitely worth the money.

Karen Elson sounds interesting – thanks for the post!

I think I’ll stick with Origin, Isis and ColdWorld.

@Kimberlee – I actually went through my ipod for less well known stuff lol… Lhasa de Sela, Kerli, Yeah Yeah Yeahs (although I think they’re more popular now, right?), The Dresden Dolls/Amanda Palmer, Santigold, Hope Sandoval (I got stuck in the 90′s), Mediaeval Baebes, Belanova (it’s in Spanish but it’s really catchy, nice happy pop), Calle 13 for hip hop/rap, Chambao, the Chemical Brothers, Does it offend you yeah (yeah a long name… I recommend their song Dawn of the Dead), Hot Chip, Imogen Heap, Joanna Newsom, m83 (very dream like music), Nicole Atkins, Sufjan Stevens, TTC, Walter Meego..
Yeah, if I have a bunch of older bands/artists there…. I avoid MTV; music videos bore me (it’s not a vendetta against the channel… I just… maybe have only been entertained by two music vids in my life). I know about the popular music because of my preteen sister who makes me sift through it all on Youtube.

no offense, nth personal actually
i just dun like this post.

Don’t care for any of ‘em. I recommend the BEST album of all time, which is “Worldwide” by Audio Adrenaline

@mycontinuity
are you kidding? lady gaga was inspired by kerli? they don’t even sound alike…

@brokenheartsandlastgoodbyes@xanga - as was I!
magnolia / 1201 posts
@SaMoAnTeiNe00@xanga - well I was trying to say that “California Gurls” was mind numbing pop music, which not all pop has to be that obnoxious. Pop does have catchy lyrics and fun beats, which Katy’s album has. But we can disagree about Em
magnolia / 1201 posts
@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - hehe well I actually like a few of your picks: Joanna Newsom, Santigold, Yeah Yeah Yeahs (are popular in my mind), and Hot Chip. But I’ll look into the others you suggested
There are just few albums I actually listen to ALL the way through and these 3 have been keeping my iPod busy so I thought I’d share.

@P0RCELA1N_D0LL@xanga - oh great recommendation! I listened to her songs… and I really like it

Definitely Katy’s album – I really love the title track, Peacock (please be a single lol), The One that Got Away, Who am I Living For? and finally Last Friday Night

katy perry can’t sing for shit.
guest
@Pcgecko85@xanga - Now, this I could get behind.
I don’t think my idea of good music is comparable to the average Lovelyish reader’s idea of good music…
guest
Eh, don’t like Katy Perry or Eminem. Might try Karen Elson, though.
guest
Everyone should check out Karen Elson! I downloaded her album at the beginning of the summer and I can’t stop listening to it. She’s amazing. So if you’re like “Eh, I don’t know if I should or not,” I’m that voice telling you to just do it. :p
guest
Eminem just sounds like a whiner to me.
guest
i mean eminem has made a comeback for one and one reason only,
he has talent. his lyrics mean something to a widespread group of people. he doesnt write about getting pussy and fucking bitches, he writes about real life shit. and for that many people can relate. the man is extremely talented
guest
Meh on Eminem, like Karen Elson, and Katy Perry’s new album had one or two genuinely
good
songs on it. Check out Plastic Beach by Gorillaz.
guest
I think this post is an epic fail. Not only did I think that I’d see more underground music, but I thought it was going to be more well rounded.
I honestly can’t stand 99% of rap out there. Em does have some talent. But it seems like even he gets repetitive on some songs. I don’t like his current single because it’s kind of glorifying violence against your significant other. But I also haven’t listened to it enough times to really get a clearer idea of what he’s trying to say. I don’t know if I ever want to listen to it all the way through.
I can’t stand Katy Perry’s voice OR her actual songs. I tend to find that pop music tends to be mindless. Lady Gaga included.
Having to said that, I’m ubber picky about my music. And I’m sure that people would say the same thing about what I listen to. In the end, it’s a person is going to enjoy whatever music that inspires that particular person.
guest
@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - you get my seal of approval
guest
@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - agreed as well. the world needs to be exposed to more complex music. especially indie artists or unknown artists.
guest
“Recovery” is the album I’ve been listening to the most lately, Eminem definitely stepped his game back up.
I’m not particularly into Katy Perry, she’s alright.
I’ve honestly never heard of Karen Elson.
@swagseeker@xanga - I know what you mean, there are plenty of good indie and undiscovered artists out there. However, not all of them are actually any good.
There are still great mainstream artists as well, it’s too bad that sometimes it’s the crappy music that becomes more popular.
*Xanga’s Batman Out*
guest
If your looking for an unknown band and you like indie/rock please look up the band
Lydia
. All of their music is great but their most well known album is called
Illuminate.
guest
Never heard of Karen Elson, might check her out.
But i am in LOVE with Eminem’s album, Recovery, especially Love the Way You Lie & Not Afraid.
As well as Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream
been listening to those three songs on repeat in my car x]
guest
@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - Agreed. Doesn’t make much sense to me to recommend a bunch of stuff people hear on the radio/see on tv.
guest
Sooooo tired of Eminem and Katy Perry
guest
I hated the Katy Perry album. Her only good songs are Kissed A Girl, Hot n’ Cold, Teenage Dream, and California Gurls. A.K.A. her hits.
guest
@rAzOrKisS09@xanga - I could NEVER get tired of Eminem. Katy Perry, yes.
guest
Eminem is great
