Maybe I’d be sad too if I were modeling overpriced ironic rompers.
Cheer up, hipster ladies! Maybe your boyfriend will take you to hear his band play in Brooklyn after he gets off work at Applebee’s.
Do you like smiling models, Lovelies, or are you OK with “artsy” scowls?
guest
see, i’m kinda weird, but normally when i see models on clothing websites, i’m looking at the clothes, not wondering if they’re having a good day today.
orchid / 242 posts
No, they’re supposed to be ironic.
dahlia / 2012 posts
Most of them just look calm to me.
But I laughed at the hipster stereotype you added in at the end.
guest
perhaps they were given the theme to look depressed?
daffodil / 1975 posts
I don’t even go by UO anymore because the whole store is just…blah.
guest
i’d like to see the white teeth they probably pay so much for.
dahlia / 2103 posts
Hmm…I’m neutral on the smiling issue. Actually I kind of like artsy scowls. What I do not like are those godforsaken hipster glasses. Maybe I should ask my grandpa if I can borrow his reading glasses and then I’ll be cool too. *eye roll*
guest
If I owned a store, I would have models that looked like fun. It might make people want to buy the clothes more.
orchid / 109 posts
I’d be more inclined to buy their clothing if their models looked happy.
sunflower / 282 posts
@firemonkiesofhell@xanga - if i owned a store, id reward my models with popsicles, because i love popsicles and im pretty sure a lot of people do too!
guest
Maybe they’re sad because little kids in foreign countries made these outfits for 1 cent an hour and they’re now being sold for 1000x that… assholes
dahlia / 2103 posts
@SaMoAnTeiNe00@xanga - Haha, no kidding!
dahlia / 2103 posts
@ribbonsxnxlace@xanga - I love popsicles! And models could eat them because they only have about 40 calories
guest
they cant even model.. they just stand there? what talent
sunflower / 282 posts
@needmoreink@xanga - you should model for me then!
as soon as i get a store…and buy popsicles
guest
They were probably forced to model.
guest
life sucks as a model… i look that way when im hungry too
orchid / 241 posts
I’d wear a scowl if I were flat-chested and forced to wear a bustier like the model in the 5th picture. Or if I were flat-chested, period.
guest
They just look so…bored.
daffodil / 1569 posts
@swedishmilk@xanga - small boobs are awesome too
rose / 944 posts
lolz. I love you, Jessica.
guest
“Cheer up, hipster ladies! Maybe your boyfriend will take you to hear his band play in Brooklyn after he gets off work at Applebee’s.” HAHAHAHA
I appreciated that line greatly. Thanks for the post!
sunflower / 284 posts
Haha, I often wondered the same thing! Facial expression aside, the poses also tend to be that half-slouching, bored pose, or the I’ve-got-a-neck-crick pose. They’re pretty girls though.
daffodil / 1569 posts
@Wait_by_Moonlight@xanga - i love you more!
orchid / 153 posts
I wouldn’t be too happy if I was just another twig wearing a piece of $50 tissue.
sunflower / 396 posts
because that’s the look.. you have to pay a shit ton of money to look homeless. you have to look and act depressed to get the pills. hipsters -_-
dahlia / 2747 posts
who the fuckkk caresssss.
magnolia / 1354 posts
I agree – but the last one looks so angry!
guest
@shesakillerqueeen@xanga - hahahahahaha!
guest
I wouldn’t have even noticed how much they’re frowning until you mentioned it. I’m buying the clothes, not the girl.
sunflower / 366 posts
LMAO ownage. xD aww i never really noticed their sad sad expressions before o_o.
guest
@SaMoAnTeiNe00@xanga - yeah that’s probably it. assholes indeed!
guest
@shesakillerqueeen@xanga - I must be weird, too.

Maybe they were being told that if they didn’t hurry up look fierce and frown with their eyes they’d be forced to eat meat and it wouldn’t be organic and possibly grade D meat.
guest
are models ever really happy though? was looking through magazines in the doctors and could only pick out about 5 girls over 78 pages who were actually pretty.
not sure their poses or clothes make them feel too good though. mind you thinking about that money makes me wana smile! lucky them.. the rest of us can mope like that and get paid a fraction of their wages
sorry for rant!
guest
i mean, they’re modeling. it’s not a sears catalog.
ranunculus / 3285 posts
They’re too hungry to crack a smile.
guest
I’m gonna go out right now and buy a buncha UO so I can not have fun! I’m just way too excited and this is much cheaper than my bipolar meds!!
guest
Hipsters aren’t made in a happy mode.
guest
@ribbonsxnxlace@xanga - I agree, but maybe brownies.
guest
LOL
rose / 834 posts
i hate hipsters so i’m glad they’re miserable.
tulip / 18 posts
I honestly can’t stand a thing you post.
guest
it’s not about the models, it’s about the clothes
guest
maybe they are just hungry?
daffodil / 1525 posts
LOL. This was a great post, I’d give more than 2 eProps if I could.
daisy / 734 posts
I laughed at the commentary of the post.
guest
‘Artsy scowls’ ftw.
guest
if they weren’t doing it as a gimmick, then maybe it wouldn’t bug me. i usually just look at the clothes though, but i have had the same thought in passing a time or two.
guest
Uh, they’re told to pose in a certain way. Blame the photographer(s), not the models.
guest
Urban Outfitters is my favorite,
the models can look however the photographer likes. I’m looking at the clothes,
not to see whether the models are having a good day or not.
guest
Who really cares? I mean, Forever 21 doesn’t have models that are smiling really (from what I noticed) along with American Apparel. It’s just how people model…
guest
Hmm…show me some happy looking models…
That’s what I thought.
guest
I love urban, I think their models look calm and chill.
guest
dude…come on…it’s Urban Outfitters not Limited Too. the last thing they’re gonna sport is some cheesy fake preppy smile hahah
guest
4th girl down, wtf. she’s all humpy -.-
guest
Hahahahaha. HAHAHAHAHAHA. While I looked at these photos and the models’ expressions i could just hear the “wahhh waaaaahhh” trumpet in my head…soo SAD =( hahahah
guest
“Cheer up, hipster ladies! Maybe your boyfriend will take you to hear his band play in Brooklyn after he gets off work at Applebee’s.”
ROFL. That was a WIN!
guest
I’d be depressed too if someone dressed me in the reject clothes of 1976
guest
SMILE, DARN YA, SMILE!
guest
Agreed! How is this considered “modeling?”
guest
I like UO…. so…. I just look at the clothing not at the models.
guest
P.S They’re clothes aren’t hipster… but whatever. I like them. They’re syle isn’t any different from Forever 21 or modcloth.com…… even though mod cloth is way better.
guest
@mminimumm@xanga - my boyfriend’s little sister models for them & they are told to look & stand that way. I dont think that they lack talent bc of that.
guest
they looked bored. i want to see happy cheery people in the clothes.
guest
The first girl is really really pretty….. but UO is just too expensive.
orchid / 124 posts
they’re depressed because they haven’t eaten in 2 years.
guest
calm, monotoned… not so much depressed (for most of these pictures)
guest
Idk. I like them better than the CRAZY looking models that most other place have.
guest
They’re too cool to care, duhhh
guest
They’re depressed because they haven’t ate anything in months.
guest
this is stupid.
guest
maybe they just need some food
guest
This really isn’t anything new. How many times have you seen couture models grin on camera or on the runway? Just because it’s not high-fashion, people expect the girls to smile pretty like they’re in a JCPenny’s catalog and not on a “hipster” brand’s website. It’s all about the image the company is trying to give off. This is obviously what works for U.O..
guest
I suppose it’s all irony.
guest
@proudsmartypants@xanga - HAHAHAHA that definitely made my day! so true!
guest
that last one looks hilarious hahahahaha is that supposed to be a sexy face?
maybe they pick girls who can’t model and that’s why they tell them to look away.
maybe I should model for them, then! hahaha
