Why is it that girls want to be supermodels and guys want to be bodybuilders? I try to cut back on what I eat while my brother drinks protein shakes full of weight gain. I exercise to tone up, he exercises to bulk up.
I realize not every girl and guy think this way, but I’m gonna guess most do. Maybe it’s because of the media or society. It’s always the supermodels who end up on the covers of fashion magazines. And it’s the muscular men who are the heroes in movies.
I think it’s good to care about your body and stay in shape but I also think it’s interesting how each gender has different views regarding this issue.
Can you imagine if these stereotypical roles of female supermodel and male body builder were reversed? Girls everywhere would snack on Big Macs and strive for more muscle weight while guys wouldn’t quit until they lost all ten pounds of flab around their tummy region.
It seems like people consider all male supermodels to be gay and all female bodybuilders to be manly. Why can’t we all choose how we look without having certain standards and judgments attached to our appearances?
What are your opinions, Lovelies? Why do girls want to be supermodels and guys want to be bodybuilders?

Images of perfection. Everyone wants to be perfect.

i worked out to be buff, but my genetic makeup made that difficult. still wish i had a six-pack, though.

the bit on being a MALE super model is rather pointless, to be a male super model you have to have the musculature of an olympian god anyway so switching places would only be a change for the women. though i do admit that there are those males out there wwho are stick skinny and modeling

body building = no big macs though….

I’ve always wanted to be strong instead of skinny.

Criiinnngggeee.
My best (guy) friend is pretty huge and muscular, but he thinks he’s tiny and is desperately trying to get bigger – gross.
And I desperately want the body of Amy Williams (British winter olympian)
She’s muscular and atheletic yet still so feminine.
I’m small, but I’m weak as sh*t!

Society’s expectations.

This is about how we are conditioned as children by the society around us. Girls are taught early that they should be delicate and thin because that is feminine. Anything else is an odd outlier (even though this is drastically untrue). Whereas boys are told that they need to be as manly as possible. They need to be strong and tough (hence the muscle-which every human being actually as in vast amounts otherwise we would be in big trouble).

It does have a lot to do with media and your peers.
You want to fit in.I admit, I too, want to be cute and petite (no where as skinny as models though, ew).

by pushing our problems on society we are blaming ourselves; by pushing our problems on the media we are blaming what we take in. we have choices with both: change society; change the source of our news and entertainment. we obviously have less choice when it comes to society as it’s made up in (relatively)equal parts by all contributing members, but the media is completely at the mercy of the consumer so in broad terms it equals out (ie don’t buy the magazines with the girl on the cover w/ ribs showing or see the movie with muscular leading man. things will change very quickly). even if it is true in this case that society/media is/are to blame for our engrained perception of “perfection” I’d still like to see someone offer a more energetic excuse. after all, they don’t decide what you are and what you strive to be. at the root of every issue you find people
so this being said, I’d blame our libidos for the general idea of what each gender should look like
oh and I clicked on this because I thought I’d see a picture of a hot girl. haha that proves my point in a way

i think its more like every girl wants to be an actress and every body wants to be a rock star.

Hell no I don’t want to be a supermodel. I want to be in shape, strong, and as lean as my genes will allow. It would be impossible for me to be small and delicate because I’m 5’10″ and have what you might call a robust frame. I’m just not built to be model-skinny, and frankly that’s fine. I’d rather be famous for my talents (art, music, writing) than for my body anyway.

Hm.
I’d like to be a body builder.
I just don’t have time.
But at the moment, I’m extremely buff…but not to the standards of being a body builder.
SO STICK THAT IN YOUR JUICE BOX AND SUCK IT, MOTHER CULTURE!
