I have to agree I’m not a big fan of hers either but she is the only one really fit to play the role.. we will just have to wait and see.

What’s up with Hollywood casting only white actors for “foreign” ethnic roles?  Is there a lack of non-white actors in the world or something? First Prince of Persia, then The Last Airbender, now Cleopatra…ugh.

i cant imagine anyone else acting as cleopatra. 

I think she’ll look great in the egyptian makeup/attire and play the role very well.

@Ailean@xanga - Actually Cleopatra was the first, and the only character out the the ones that you named that actually counts since she actually existed. It’s a shame that there’s been a bunch of movies with Cleopatra yet most of them cast white women in the role.

If someone were to cast a black Cesar – they’d raise hell. 
It’s a shame really.

Considering the fact that Cleopatra was black I don’t see how Angelina Jolie is the best choice. Elizabeth Taylor was miscast as well.

There are plenty of good [and great] black actresses who could play the role. 

@MissLady2012 - The only reason I can see her in the role is because of the way Hollywood has cast most Egyptians, for some reason they seem to think Egyptians were white.
I’d like to see them get a black actress portray Cleopatra.

you don’t have to get all upset I didn’t really think about that. it was just an opinion, I didn’t think anything of her skin color, I looked past that, my bad.

@Ailean@xanga - Most records show that Cleopatra was actually Greek. I thought she was Egyptian, too, but *sigh* she was not.

i saw this on another site yesterday, and people were suggesting halle berry, gabrielle union, or zoe saldana would be a better fit. just interesting, i guess. 

@A_NY_Zone61@xanga - actually, you forget that Cleopatra’s family was not native to Egypt.  the Ptolemaic dynasty was Greco-Macedonian.  it’s far more likely that Cleopatra was fair-skinned, with light hair and eyes. 

even if she WAS native to Egypt, it is not known whether the ancient Egyptians had dark or light skin.  North Africans, being from the Mediterranean, tend to have more olive skin tones.  and unlike sub-Saharan Africa, Egypt had more opportunities to mix with peoples from different areas (Persians, Semites, etc.) just because you are from the African continent, that doesn’t make you black.

If we ignore race, Angelina has the the right “presence” to play Cleopatra. She has that sultry, man-eater vibe about her, which is just what the role would need. She’s also a big name, which I’m sure the movie would need if it’s intended to be one of those big-budget movies.

Why not? She’s IS a great actress, even if no one wants to admit it. She’s beautiful and very elegant when she wants to be. She looks great in Alexander, I think she would make a great Cleopatra.

She’s the perfect fit.
