I am in no way qualified to discuss the politics of kiddie pageants, but I’m nonetheless horrified by pictures of the little girls who participate in them. It’s so unnatural; it just freaks me out.
What do you think of these images, Lovelies? Completely disturbing or shrug-worthy?

yuck. can’t they focus on being kids and wait to wear too much makeup and tan and wear fake hair until they’re at least teenagers? ew.

I never understood it to be honest…mom’s parading their daughters around to be judged on beauty because they can’t or never could…it’s like they’re living their dream through their daughters and that’s not right at all

I think that’s far too mature for children to look. I don’t like the idea of child pageantry.

They look high school age, or even older…it’s so wrong…parents who put their children through this should be arrested and the kids should be handed over to the DCF until they can find more suitable guardians. Toddler pageants are child exploitation, no two ways about it.

@frozencherries@xanga - That is EXACTLY what I thought they were!!! +p

@ChaoyD@xanga - They’re so gorgeous, it’s unrealistic.
It’s like watching miniature barbies walking around. You give these girls unattainable body images and watch them cat fight. Then you set them on a stage in front of people who are judging how they walk, talk, sing, everything. They are going to grow up majorly screwed in the head.

I hate pageants. Those parents are dressing their daughters up and making them believe that that is the definition of beauty, and then they make money off of it. It’s disgusting.

@xnotxbeautifulx@xanga - HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Spot on!

Ugh. So creepy. What are parents thinking?! This isn’t cute. It’s disturbing.

Wow, that does not look good at all.

The whole point of kiddie pageants are to show off..kids… as kids. Somewhere down the line it became this sexual-midrift bearing- fake teeth- high hair- ..monstrosity. Im embarrassed for the parents.
They shouldnt even call it kiddie pageants anymore.. more like parents living out a sick fantasy vicariously through their young. Speaking of which.. whats on the Disney channel tonight?

I’m a pageant child myself. It’s a hobby just like tumbling is for little girls. Everbody wants to look/feel like a princess at some point in their lives. You all take it rather harshly.

I’ll never understand it.
Some of these have to be photoshopped. Like, the second to last? It just doesn’t look real.
@Savannahlovee@xanga - Yes, but you can’t look/feel like a princess at a tea party with your friends?
guest
well if the girls really wants to do it then sure good for them
i find it a teensy bit disturbing and i agree the clothes are a bit risque and the makeup is way too much
also, they always reminded me of midgets.. like beautiful midgets cause they don’t look like kids!
but nonetheless, it’s a hobby… and if that’s what the girls want to do and nobody forces them into it, then i’m all for it.
guest
they’re gonna be screwed up when they’re older
what psycho mothers…and think of the creepy monsters that may be looking at these photos…*shiver*
guest
@Savannahlovee@xanga - if they looked like little princesses, i would have no objection whatever. i don’t see anything wrong with spending time on beauty – it’s the sexualization/adultizing that i find disturbing.
guest
Too young to be so focused on looks. Lots of them don’t want to do it on a given day, anyway, and their creepy stage mommies make them. Ick.
guest
if it’s a child pageant why dress them up to look like ADULTS?
guest
I was watching toddlers and tiaras and the coordinator of the pageant was explaining how thong swim suits arent allowed because its hard to have the perfect body in them…they were TODDLERS. I understand wanting your child to have self esteem/ feel like a “princess” but I don’t see the need in parading them around in barely there skirts and a full mac force field

It’s like the stupid fashion trend with the hair bows—promoting pedophelia.
That’s all. Nothing to worry about.

We always thought that my cousin would put her daughter in pageants. This was before Toddles n tiaras came around and we found out what a pageant consisted of. Until then I thought it was these cute little girls who got to put on a cute dress get their hair done and be paraded for scholarship money. I never expected them to put makeup, hair extensions, barely there clothing, and flappers (the fake teeth) on a 4 year old. It’s one thing if they have hair that can be curled and look cute like that but seriously lets add a wig so that the kid has locks down to their knees that we can tease comb curl and do what ever we want to them with. And the price that these parents are paying? 300+dollars for a dress the child is going to wear 1 time! My senior year my prom dress cost that much but I have warn it to 3 other formals and it was also about 100x’s as much fabric as they put these girls into! It is ridiculous.

@xnotxbeautifulx@xanga - The way I see it, at that age, looking “beautiful” or being concerned with sex appeal should be very, very far from their priorities.

this is very very very wrong, it really disturbs me.

The parents who do this need to go through clinical assessment to figure out what kind of mental illness would make them do this to their children.
hydrangea / 86 posts
They look like mini-adults and that’s not an attractive look for little kiddos under 10 years of age. It’s sad to see them being paraded about by (usually) controlling, demanding mothers who just want to show off their child. If it’s actually the child that wants it, that’s sad too. What does it say about a 5 year old who doesn’t get enough love and affection at home but wants to show off in front of as many people as possible instead?

I think its cute when little girls play dress up. But to be judged on makeup and beauty is too much in my opinion. Of course every mother want their daughters to be princesses. But having them dress that way is too much. Why can’t they enjoy being children themselves. Like play with dolls, play dress up and such.
My niece wanted to be in a pageant like this and my mother thought it would be a good idea and thought that she was better than all those other girls. See that mentality…”I’m better than you” meantality. It grows in them and then they always wonder why they kids become selfish, rude, arrogant and think everything has to be perfect.
guest
Future whores/trophy wives in the making. Thanks Mom!

Ok, I know this is disturbing and wrong and I would never put my kid through it.
But at the same time, these little girls look sooo cute. Like if this was just halloween, they’d be adorable. The fourth one in the orange and that last one are just cute. C’mon, you can’t deny that. Yes, its messed up tht they have huge hair and manicured fake nails, but without socially dissecting it, they’re really cute. Except the first one – its so airburshed, it doesn’t look real.

This is so sad. I was babysitting my cousins yesterday and Toddlers & Tiaras came on. (Yes I really was watching them. The oldest 2 and my brother were playing video games in the other room and the baby was asleep). That show is so disturbing. Most of the girls on the show are complete brats who get whatever they want and their mothers aren’t any better. My aunt came in and started watching the show with me. She made the comment how she wondered who those girls grew up to be, which reminded of an episode of wife swap. The 16-year-old daughter in one of the families had been involved in pageants since she was a baby. Her parents never made her do anything for herself. She had never done a homework assignment, never made her own meals, and whenever they went out for dinner she treated the people that waited on her like crap. And when she actually did something, like make brownies for her family, her parents would tell her that she did a horrible job and that it tasted like crap. Yikes

Disturbing :/ Whenever there’s a beauty pageant on tv, I’m always horrified by how scary they look. They hold these smiles without blinking and their faces look way too old (because of the makeup) for their bodies. Blech, *shivers*

some of them are pretty…but some are eewwwww…they try to be sexy which is NOT good…..they are way TOOOOO young for that….

im a pageant girl too. i think this is extremely over talked about. the outfits i wore in my dance recitals as a child, along with the makeup and hair that went along with it. was VERY similiar to the things i wore in my pageants. I thought it was fun and loved getting dressed up. it also helped me a lot by getting me into modeling careers and community service projects.
i just think the children should be old enough to decide. and if they dont like it. the parents should let them stop.
guest
i think it’s cute. (:

GROSS. ever since I first watched Toddlers & Tiaras, I wondered how pageant mothers could go through with making their little girls look as skanky, orange, and unnatural as a hooter’s girl. Actually there’s nothing really wrong with hooter’s girls because well, they’re not 4 years old.
Shame on these parents for making their daughters unwillingly compete in these pedophile carnivals. They’re asking to get raped and kidnapped.

guest
Parents raising their kids to be pre-Madonnas. This is how pedophiles get their sick ideas.
guest
haha WOW, you ENJOYED looking like a baby prostitute? when i was a little girl i didn’t need to look like a cracked out Joan Rivers to feel like a little princess. not to mention how horrible it is for little girls to get fake nails done, tan, etc. those are all long term effects on their nail beds & a good way to get skin cancer later in life. you’re so right though, i mean… it’s totally worth never knowing what dignity is.
guest
Yea, i was watching the shows lately, and these little girls are put to follow a certain standard of what’s pretty, and what’s perfect, they train and practice to fit this certain mold kind of in imitation of an adult in perfection when they’re at such a young age…what about the perfection of a toddler the way they are…
Photos even have to be retouched purposely to fit the pageant criteria; i don’t think it’s healthy for the little girl’s development, because she’s being taught to fit into a certain mold of perfection somewhat catering to the adult world- ie outfits etc, but these contests do show serious talent for their ability to display and imitate, to perform according to the criteria, and for their discipline to go through coaching etc…
guest
The only type of people these type of pageants attract are pedofiles. The wrong type of people you want looking at your kids. Mothers who force their daughters into this kind of stuff just for their own pleasure are so wrong and they’re are putting their daughters in danger… Just look at what happened to JohnBenet Ramsey. Horrifying story!

See, when I was little, make-up was reserved for the adults and even then it was reserved for special occassions. I think that dressing these little girls up like that is kind of ruining it for them when they get older. I’ve seen episodes about these pageants on Tyra and a lot of the moms will say “oh they love to dress up and put on make-up”. Well, duh!!! What little girl wouldn’t love to dress up like mommy and get attention?! But, let’s be honest, some moms take it way beyond dressing up.
What disturbs me even more isn’t the mom’s dolling these girls up like this, it’s the judges that score these girls.
I also think that these moms are giving their daughters a false sense of beauty. Can you imagine the self-image complexes these little girls will have when they grow up?
guest
I’m sorry but THIS is one screwed up hobby. I dunno who that was on the first page who compared it to tumbling, but this is far from tumbling. Even though that user looked like she survived those pageant days, there are so many other girls who end up being real bitchy divas because of it. I’m sorry if this is the lifestyle of some people for one reason or another, but it’s downright creepy to me. Especially the glamor shots that are photoshopped and dolled up for the “extra cute” factor. It has always seemed like a bit much. Especially considering how much everything costs. It’s all a waste to me and I’d rather have my little girl learning/working on something else like learning basic green environment habits or basic survival tips. She would still be allowed to pretend, play dress up and make believe….but um…this pageantry stuff would be a no go.
Why can’t the pageants exists with the stocks and savings WITHOUT all the makeup? Or if need be, not so much? It just seems beyond the limit to me.
guest
I dont think this is a good thing.
guest
@Savannahlovee@xanga - You act as if nothing is wrong with it, and yet when I went to your page, I saw “I’M SO FAT.” “ugh my intake was terrible.” “I know I won’t be able to resist eating.” You can’t honestly say it had no impact on your life. That’s pretty interesting. :]

Watched toddlers and tiaras last week. Have seen several other episodes but this one stood out most because I never felt more like smacking a child. She wasn’t even a little kid but 10 instead. Spoke of herself in the 3rd person, even had a different stage/pageant name went by. The attitude and rudeness that oozed out of her mouth with every comment off stage…..needed her behind set on fire.
In same episode the mother was telling her 4 year old how they was going to have to work on her tummy. Then grabbed the little girls belly.
She was in know way fat but already her mom was telling her she was.
These glitz pageants need to be gotten rid of.
Let them be little girls. Instead of trying to make them up like adults.

This is terrible. That show Toddlers & Tiaras disgusts me. All these parents are doing is teaching their kids to be superficial, fake, spoiled rotten bitches. Pagentry is fine–when you’re a little older, and it should be tempered with some REAL discipline and moral lessons!
guest
As a future Early Childhood Ed major, it makes me sad to see little girls completely focused on the wrong things. I’m not going to blame their mothers, claim brainwashing, or even say it’s all bad. But between this and kids being required to know more and more at younger and younger ages, I wish kids were still given a chance to be KIDS. They shouldn’t be wearing more makeup than I ever have, they shouldn’t be poking out their spray-tanned butts and wearing fake nails. They should be out playing, and embracing their innocence. It’s gone too quickly to push it away like this.

The whole pageant world is out of control. I’ll admit that when I was little my mom entered me in a couple pageants and I actually won one. BUT there were no fake tans, fake teeth, hoochy outfits, etc. I think little girls love to dress up and even compete, but so much emphasis on perfection is not healthy for their psyches.

Honestly, pagents are just sick. I didn’t wear make-up until I was 14 and even then I didn’t like wearing it. As a young child, I feel like these girls will never feel pretty enough without make-up. That makes me really sad. Not to mention, with all the sickos out there that would just love to see a young child like this.. how could you feel safe putting your child out there like that? Heck, I couldn’t wear that stuff without feeling naked.
I’ll admit I know girls who just love pagents and their parents are all about their kids and not about the competitive nature of pagents – it’s the flip-side that freaks me out. All the Moms (and dads) that get so fired up and yell at their kids when their strut wasn’t just so or the child is tired and wants to go home and the parents tell them that’s too bad. I am sure if a little girl got up the courage to say they don’t like pagents anymore, their parents wouldn’t hear it.
I hate pagents, I think they are disgusting and create standards for little girls way too early on. Those girls would have just as much fun being in a play or playing in the dirt. That’s the way kids need to be, not have their innocence and love of themselves for who they are when they are airbrushed and turned into miniature adults.

@Escapists@xanga - They’re all photoshopped, insofar as those “glamour headshots” are concerned, actually. I’m somewhat of a semi-pro in that department, and it’s actually super apparent, though I’m not trying to sound like I’m gloating. Just confirming your suspicions. What they do is they actually copy and paste one of the kid’s eyes, reverse it, and replace the other with that, so that their features are more “symmetrical” (like, on that first shot up there, her eyes are the same. Nobody has perfect symmetry, it’s physically impossible. That’s why these pictures seem so perfect that they’re disturbing or unnatural looking. That’s aside from the myriad of other airbrush, blurs, color adjustments, smudging and lighting effects they do, of course. it’s quite disturbing really.
guest
it’s scary how people do that to their children. they are too young and innocent to tell their parents or something, and they just learn form that to cheat and be wrong to other people.
orchid / 183 posts
@nimbusthedragon@xanga - I thought symmetrical faces were supposed to me more attractive? Guess not. Thanks for the confirmation though, that’s just atrocious.
guest
@Escapists@xanga - Yes they are, technically. We are attracted to symmetry… most top models, or actors we find attractive are more symmetrical. All the same, there’s a fine line where the brain detects “too perfect”, when crossed, because the thing is, NOBODY has true symmetrical features.

@Savannahlovee@xanga - Then why don’t these parents put their children in tumbling, dance, piano lessons, t-ball where they can learn some valuable skills and will feel good about themselves about what they can DO instead of about how they LOOK? Yes, every girl likes to feel like a princess…let them play dressup at home, as kids, and have princess tea parties for their birthdays, where they are not made over and paraded in public and JUDGED…let them create their own princess fun in the privacy of their homes. I know what it is to get my daughter ready for her dance recitals, which happen only once a year – she HATES all the primping to get ready. She just wants to dance. It’s all about what she can DO, not how she looks. The year long gymnastics practices, dance lessons – it’s never about how they look, or about beauty – only about what they do. How strong are they? How smart are they? How well do they do in school? How do they treat others? Those are the important things our girls need to be learning. The process of DOING, and not the product, is the important thing to instill in children – these pageants are all about “the product”.
guest
@Vanagloria@xanga - my sentiments exactly.
they kinda creep me out even though i feel they shouldn’t. those hair styles and makeup styles are not associated with “children” makeup and hairstyles outside of the kiddie pagent world.
0___o. the first pic is like someone said “gosh, i wish i had a wife, and i wish she looked like a kid.” why do they have to look like minature 40 year old pagent queens?
guest
I feel it depends on who the person is & what exactly their view on this is. Of course someone who’s part of this world is not going to see the ‘sick’ image the rest of us see; someone who isn’t in pageants would see only little girls & their parents allowed to dress them slutty-like. My opinion? I think it takes away from the innocence of their childhood making them grow up too fast.
Whatever happened to just wearing little dresses & tiaras?
guest
if my daughter wanted to do it I’d let her but I wouldn’t do the spray tans and fake teeth. I also wouldn’t want her to wear outfits that weren’t suitable for her age. These mom’s get so into it its rediculous.
guest
they all still have their baby bellies…
So sad…
guest
A bunch of mamas looking for self-validation through their babies, methinks.
guest
@pkcricket@xanga - Haha! We’re name buddies! I didn’t even notice until after I’d commented.
guest
I know a girl who used to do pageants when she was a kid. She’s pretty messed up now. I’m not saying the two are actually related to each other, but they could be.

Disturbing as hell…there’s no way in hell my daughter will ever do a beauty pageant. I think it is wrong on so many levels.

The beauty of a child is how natural and innocent she is. Trying to make them look any other way is just plain creepy.

This is disturbing
I watch that Toddlers and Tiaras show on TLC sometimes and I just want to wring the mothers’ necks sometimes, its like they’re telling their kids that they aren’t pretty enough so they have to get all made up and caps on their teeth, and spray tans. I feel really bad for the kids especially when they don’t win because thats also basically saying “you didn’t win because you aren’t pretty enough.” It makes me sick to my stomach

unfortunately it’s shrug worthy. A lot of people don’t think these pictures are wrong
so it’s almost like some things have desensitized us. I would be shocked if I’d seen them a few years ago.
guest
what reason could any adult have to enjoy looking at pictures of toddlers in heels and bikinis wearing lipstick and fake eyelashes and hair!?!?!
What positive attention could possibly come out of this?
these mothers need to ask themselves
Why does a grown woman wear mini skirts?
Why does a grown woman wear bikinis?
Why would a grown woman wear hotpants w/half a shirt and black knee high heels?
WHY do grown women wear red lipstick when they go out?
If you wouldn’t wear it to church, it doesn’t need to be on a toddler.
I think the most beautiful thing about children is that they are children. They should grow up feeling beautiful everyday. They should be acting like goofy little kids and wearing cute outfits that cover thier baby bellies.
guest
they wear more makeup than I do! I competed in pageants (small local pageants) when I was young and my parents didn’t put any makeup on me.
let kids be kids! little kids shouldn’t be wearing tons of makeup and fake tans
guest
The first picture doesn’t even look real. And I don’t understand why all the makeup and excessive hair spray is necessary. Can’t the girls just wear pigtails and maybe some lip gloss at most?
orchid / 216 posts
I thought the first one was a girl my age when I saw the thumbnail. Wow.
I think pageants can be fun, but this kinda scares me. Kids need to enjoy being kids, not encouraged to grow up too fast. I wasn’t even allowed to wear makeup till I was 13, and they’re probably wearing more than I do at age 20 on a daily basis.
guest
The only ones that are ok, to an extent at least, are where they are legitimate costumes, perhaps the third picture and the last one. The rest are just ridiculous.
guest
Oh sweet Jesus.
guest
@sijink@xanga - as the mother of a 2 year old girl I must say you do not see the problem with these contests. Yes i can understand a child having a hobby that they enjoy, but come on! these girls are wearing clothes I wasn’t allowed to wear to school due to them being too risky…and thats when i was in high school! It wasnt just my parents but the school said these clothes attract unwanted attention and i agree. There are too many sick people out there who look at children as sexual objects as it is. why would anyone dress their child in a way that screams sexuality!
guest
i think the girl who’s well-covered up is okay
guest
Sluts in the making..damn.
guest
watch the show toddlers and tiaras, then you’ll be disturbed, half the kids do not want to be there, the parents force them for the money.
i find it extremely selfish and wrong on so many levels.
guest
@cricket_chirps@xanga - hah that’s great!
guest
I think it’s wrong.
They will never be able to appreciate themselves for who they are when they are older because they will feel “ugly” if they are not in pageants.
guest
LMAO Oh goodness. My two yr old daughter is sitting on my lap looking at these pictures as I scroll…the whole time saying “Ew. Yuckie” and we get to the not half bad one (picture nine) and she says “Oh princess!” That just cracks me up.
guest
Every girl wants to feel like a princess
plus they make friends during the pagent and recieve confiedence.
guest
Why not just buy a doll to play with. Why screw up a kid’s life like that?
guest
I’ll agree with most of these posters saying how this is way too much makeup on a child. I know that what makes children the most beautiful and immaculate beings on the planet for me is their innocence, which is what all of this makeup, hairspray and and caps on their teeth seem to hide. Their faces are smooth, their eyes are already big, why do you need to put chemical crap on it to make them look any better?
But despite it all, I find the girl in the last picture so cute!
guest
…wait, are some of these pictures the same girls? Or are they all looking the same all of a sudden?!
I’m glad I maintained my childhood when I was young. The make-up stuff comes later with acne, hormonal imbalance, and boys.
guest
let’s just say I’d rather see freckled-braces-face kids than these make-up-mask-face kids. they look exactly like barbie dolls. especially the first picture. i thought it was a barbie doll at first. i can’t believe their parents would do this to them… nothing but make-up. they’ll grow up to look older than they really do. that’s what make-up does to you when u reach the 30′s-40′s.
guest
These girls could’ve been president, but nope, their moms want them to become stylish, spoiled, little whores.
Congrats.
Sorry I forgot my obligatory “WHAT IS THIS I DON’T EVEN”.
guest
Sometimes I will watch kiddie pageant shows and most times I have to switch and watch something else because its just too much. Their moms are psycho, the little girls are like little barbies with little attitudes, like these girls have some damn guts to say some of the things they say. I have never seen a pageant and dont know anyone whos been in one or has a kid in one. I live in southern California so pageants are not all the rage here. I mean, we start looking like those little girls when we hit like 14, not when we are 9. Tans, big hair and makeup… thats me now and I am 23. I could never put my kid through all that, it must be a Southern thing.
guest
Those images are the future of america…*were doooooomed* (Sad face)
guest
@Savannahlovee@xanga - Their little kids they don`t even realize that the clothes they are wearing makes them look older. Their just little kids they don`t probably understand the defintion of a hobby. Their mothers probably made them go through this because they probaly wanted to live out some kind of pagent fantasy through their children.
I don`t understand how they can think their kids look good in those clothes. If they were teenagers their mothers would probaly had told me to dress more apprpriately. The clothes, the poses, and all that makeup take away from that child innocence.
guest
@xXSkAtiiNg_oN_icE52Xx@xanga - You don’t need to be dressed up like a barbie to feel like a princess! For me, feeling like a princess was dressing up like Disney characters, wearing my mum’s shoes and putting glitter everywhere, and then throwing “tea parties” with my friends in the back garden with cake and milk or juice. Just dressing up and HAVING FUN. Everyone was a princess, nobody was a winner, and everyone had a great time.
Why is there a need for competition to look good? That’s not even remotely necessary for kids. Let them be kids! They don’t need that pressure to look good at such a young age. It’s so sad
If you want them to compete, put them in sports or ballet, not a beauty pageant!
Adult models suffer from pressure to look good, imagine what this must do to these little children!
guest
Poor girls. Forced (in most cases) to do this weird stuff… but what really makes me feel sad is that their parents lock them up in tanning beds for who knows how often….. it’s never good, but that young… They all may get skin cancer later T_T It’s sooo bad
Unless they use rub on tanner or whatever… but still… it’s sad
guest
O.o The girl in the very first picture looks like a Barbie.
guest
Ah … it’s so weird. :/ I understand playing in makeup and dressing up, but Idk, I think sometimes it’s a bit much BUT I have seen girls in beauty pageants who DO NOT look like this. They don’t put so much makeup on them or fake teeth, tans or anything like that. Some Momma’s and Dad’s just go overboard apparently. I don’t think I would ever do this to my kids. It’s too weird.

@musicmom60@xanga - i just wanted to comment on the fact that one of my best friend’s is a dancer and in tumbling. like you said, she just wants to get it done with but over the years she has become more obsessed with the way she looks and calorie intake because of how thin her fellow ballerinas are and how she needs the lowest fat percentage on her body because her tumbling coach wants them all the look as good as possible while doing their routines.
daisy / 570 posts
@Luv_is_infinite@xanga - i think they’re too young for braces
guest
Growing up way too fast
guest
why not put them on an extreme diet regimen too? This is sick. I’m all for pageants but there are certain things that are just not suitable for kids. The over sexualization of kids with the come hither looks is nothing more but sexual exploitation.
Sigh.
guest
Pedobear, what are you doing there…..?
guest
O.O AHHH! #5, 7, and 8 are especially creepy.
I complete agree with you. It’s just so…unnatural. Like, it’s already sad enough to me when grown or young women parade around to please others, but at this age, it becomes positively tragic. I don’t want to judge, but my first impression of those girls’ parents would be that they are acting pretty selfishly.
guest
@CrabappleTree - oh heavens….don’t even remind me of that film…. o.O
guest
asldjfalsdkfla. they’re gonna be such shallow bitches when they grow up /=
guest
They literally look like barbie dolls…
guest
i see that show on TLC and these pictures and i just think about jonbenet ramsey.
guest
@Savannahlovee@xanga - Um, no offense, but I just checked your page out. You’re one of those “thinspo” chicks, as Xangans like to call them. Quitemeteorshowers said it best above when she stated “Future ED kids unite.” Eating disorders aren’t jokes at all. So I get irritated I see someone like you try to defend these pageants, and then I visit your page and see that you post your intake and thinspo. It makes it hard to not see a correlation between parading your child around and eating disorders/body issues in later life.
Whenever people say things like, “the kids like it,” I want to slap them. If they were never introduced to it, a three year old is not going to go up to her parents and say, “I wanna be in a beauty pageant.” The mothers put them in that. And since they’re three, they may fight at first, but once they see all the attention their parents are giving them, all of the money they spend on hair, teeth, outfits, spray tans, lessons, and everything else, yes, the kids will say they like it. Why? BECAUSE KIDS LIKE ATTENTION. They like it when mommy and daddy acknowledges them. And if they see that mommy pays more attention to them when they’re competing/preparing for a contest, of course they’ll want to do it. FOR THE ATTENTION. Not because they want to “feel beautiful.”
Three year olds don’t care about beauty. They care about the dog that wanders around the neighborhood, why mommy vacuums the living room ever week, when they can go out and play, when they can get a new toy. Not beauty. Anyone under the age of 7 who’s worried about looks is like that because their parents exposed them to it early. Not because they naturally think about that stuff.
guest
Total sickos, those parents are. It’s been over fourteen years since JonBenet’s murder and still no one’s snitching on the perv-perp. Another such horror is waiting in the wings. It’s one thing for the girls to play dress up, and another thing for chopper parents to live through these precious kids.
Come to think of it, this is not much different, qualitatively, from children’s sports.
guest
Unacceptable in every way.
guest
yeah, it`s really bizarre.
kids that age should enjoy just being that age
they shouldn`t have to go through the torment of wanting to
be perfect at such a young age.
not good for their little sponge-like brains, now is it?
guest
We did kid pageants when my sister and I were little but they were just that:
kid pageants. My mom never dressed me like that.
guest
its all in the make up
guest
Well it IS artistic, so what does that say about American culture?
lol, were just human.

My mom loves watching all these pagant shows on tv, and I cannot stand it. The way the parents are trying to make their daughters compete is disgraceful, and the little divas act like the most spoiled princesses EVAR!! It’s horrid!! I can’t believe that parents would be so base as to put so much worth in solely looks. I know there’s a talent aspect, but the majority of points are ascertained in the looks category. Also, what message are you sending if you LOSE based solely on your looks….? eh? base… that’s all I have to say: It’s lowly, and base of parents.
guest
Ugh. They look like plastic people.
Now, the ones in which they wear dresses that actually cover up most of their bodies, are slightly more tolerable.
The rest, I find disgusting.
guest
And people wonder why their 15 year old child gets knocked up… You shouldn’t sexualize your child at any age-let alone before puberty. As far as I’ve seen it’s fat southern women who are living through their children. The kids get fake crowns and the moms keep the money for themselves or to pay for their elaborate costumes… I can’t even go on anymore.
guest
It’s REALLY disturbing! Kids should remain kids! They can torture their skin once they’re like 20 or something!
guest
woah~ they look cute and arrogant. haha
guest
fucking disgusting.
guest
I’ve never liked/agreed with children participating in beauty pageants…
They just look so unnatural, and I find the images truly disturbing. They’re more like fashion dolls, not little girls. I completely agree with xnotxbeautifulx. Barbies.
guest
Light child porn.
guest
@Where_Senses_Fail@xanga - I am confused about this statement about the hair bows. Hair bows have ALWAYS been for little girls. What adults wear hair bows?
guest
okay, okay they are just little girls all dressed like little adults. Who cares? I dont find one darn thing disturbing about them.
guest
i think its creepy, but i guess if you think about it, its just practice for a real pageant. like having baseball uniforms for little league.
guest
With the puckered lips and everything, these all looking like really whacked out MySpace photos.
guest
My daughter and niece are both pageant girls. They both do extremely well. We’ve never forced either little girl to be in them against their will. They both love the idea of dressing up and “playing princess”. There’s nothing wrong with pageants and, no it doesn’t warp and scar kids for life. As far as the comment about pageants being an open invite for pedofiles, ARE YOU SERIOUS!? The fact that you would even think that is rediculous and disturbing. My girls also do tap, jazz, ballet, clogging, cheer, and gymnastics. Should I take them out of those too because those are some pretty short and tight outfits and some dirty old pervert may look? No, they are doing hobbies they enjoy and I’m not depriving my girls of that because there are disgusting and sick people in the world. And besides, no one ever said bad things about the pageant world until JonBenet Ramsey was killed.
guest
Okay, maybe I should word this better: I don’t think it’s in good sense the way they’re having these pagaents done. I don’t care if your daughter likes dressing up. I think she can look cute without wearing SEX clothing and enough make-up to kill a horse. Seriously, it’s one thing to look like an adorable doll, it’s another thing to make them look like miniature sex goddesses.
guest
it always makes me laugh, they look like those freaky china dolls you find in old people’s houses
guest
@Bambiigrl@xanga - Too bloody right! If it’s supposed to be a child pageant, they should be dressed like children, not adults. They look like midget fashion models!
guest
Pageant kids scare the crap out of me…but whats even more scary, is their moms!
guest
@ilovedthemfirst@xanga - an alarming number, actually. I’ve seen someone around the mid-twenties age wearing them. I don’t understand it at all
guest
creepyyy. they don’t look like young girls, they look like adults stuck on a kids body. and how the mothers spend like hundreds of dollars for those fake teeth? weird. i think these girls just need to focus on being a kid and not deal with the stress of being in a pagent. what great parenting skills. way to go!
guest
they can be a little much, but if they’re having fun & they want to do it, let them. they’re having fun, gaining confidence, meeting friends, and if they’re good enough can get careers from this stuff. although “glitz” pageants are often where you get this level of overdressing, and that kind of thing. pageants for children often get the wrong representation because of things like this, i’ve participated in pageants and have -never- seen any girls like this. in some the makeup & tanning thing isn’t even allowed until the age of 13. i guess it’s just what you take from it.
guest
@ChristinaPlague@xanga - thank you!
guest
I really liked the movie “Little Miss Sunshine” precisely because it mocked these sorts of pageants.
guest
It is a little disturbing because of the excessive hair and makeup and the clothing is really skimpy. Why do parents need to put their children in a pageant to validate how beautiful their babies are? Other people’s opinion of how pretty your babies are shouldn’t be important. I’ve seen that baby pageant show…most of those little girls don’t even want to be in the show! Parents need to help their children realize their dreams and cultivate their own talents, not let their parents live vicariously through them. If the child wants to be in shows, I guess to some extent it’s ok. There’s more to life than just looks.
guest
That’s just horrible.
guest
I think their moms taughts them to pop the booty and the lips out. How idiotic.
guest
One step below child pornography…

first thing that came to my mind was- Little Miss Sunshine hehe

They look like dolls. Creepy, psycopathic dolls that will kill you in your sleep.

poor kids.

too much. they should enjoy being kids and not acting like adults…
guest
@Savannahlovee@xanga - I agree.
I mean, some people get really ridiculous about things like this – but how is it any different than getting dolled up for dance performances and stuff? I was in a colour guard when I was little…and they had us in skimpy bikini’s and the most makeup I’ve ever worn in my entire life. It’s all for show. It’s all for fun (for the most part)
orchid / 147 posts
This makes me think of the show Toddlers&Tiaras on TLC, which makes me sad. What happened to childhood?
guest
Pageants disturb me. Not because little girls are competing over their looks (although that’s part of the problem), but because their looks are judged on how adult they look. It’s not cute. Kids are supposed to be cute. They’re not supposed to be in mid drifts, sporting booty shorts. What kind of classy parent would put their little girl in something like that?
It’s ridiculous. Just freaking ridiculous.
guest
I might be the only one, but I rather enjoy pageants. You have to remember – its all for fun. The point isn’t for the little girls to try and be “adults” or “older than they are”. The point is for them to look like dolls – and from those pictures – they really do, lol. But at the end of the day, they look just like any other little girl, with their hair a mess, two front teeth out, and their barbie nightgowns.
guest
I don’t think I could ever let my daughter wear that. I think this paints an unhealthy image for these girls as they grow up. It makes me really sad.
guest
Some of those pictures were just disgusting…

So you’re all saying legalised pedophelia is OK?
FUCKING HANG THE PARENTS! They’re the perverts here!

Oh my god. Pedophile heaven much? These are disturbing beyond belief. I watch some of the shows on T.V portraying these little girls as sex symbols and i am appalled. The mothers claim they “do it for the kids” no 3 year old girl decides she wants to do this; and if she somehow got it into her mind to strive for this while still being a toddler, it really reflects your ability as a parent to not be able to say no. Jesus, what is the world coming to?

@Savannahlovee@xanga - you are absolutely right, my daughter is almost 18 months, and i can’t wait to get her into pageants, she is a beautiful little girl and i think everybody should see that, i do want to go natural till she is old enough to decide if she wants to do glitz, but still, like you said its a fun hobby for mothers and daughters to get into just like dance or anything else!!!
guest
I used to be Miss Texas when I was a child. But I NEVER did what these girl are doing. I never had the fake hair pieces, tans, or teeth. I won all on personality, talent, and beauty. I dont think you can really call these Beauty Pagents anymore…more like, “Whoever buys the most crap for your daughter, wins”.
guest
Has anyone ever thought about the judges? I mean, they have to scrutinize and rate these poor girls.
guest
Looks like little doll aliens from the planet, Romulus.
guest
The 2nd one bothered me the most. I have a daughter, she is so pretty. I thought about entering her in a pageant and then I thought about how grown she would have to look, allt he fake hair, the make up, the revealing clothes… No thanks. Not to mention her father would have a fit! I just don’t approve of it. Now there are pageants that are all natural, no make up and all that, but they aren’t as popular as these… I just don’t see me ever participating in this mess…
guest
i hate kiddie pageants. so wrong.

Those poor kids…….its not them rember that is thire MOTHERS *wolfs howling*

No. Just no. This stuff hurts me to look at. Even on regular adult models it makes me cringe. It’s not something I endorse at all. Fashion and beauty are not to be judged on anyone or by anyone, especially not children. Does anyone reading this actually do this to their kids? It’s screwed up.

@skysmmy179 - yes, and Savannahlovee also has an eating disorder. please think about the examples you’ll be setting for your daughter. it’s not fair to her. maybe put her into something she can benefit from? like a sport or piano lessons?

ive been wearing makeup since i was in 2nd grade, these little girls just love performing and dressing up and are fortunate enough to have parents who are willing to spend the money to let them do this. yeah, a lot of girls are pushed by their parents to do this, but theyll thank their parents later when they grow up to have poise and charm. arent you glad your parents put you in sports or other activities and didnt let you quit because it gave you skills that helped you later in life?
its hardly any different from the way girls look for ballet recitals. ive found pictures of my sister and i from recitals when we were around 3 and every single girl is loaded with hairspray and blue eyeshadow and pink lips, wearing tutus that made us feel like princesses.
guest
oh , no way!
