When I first heard about this, of course I thought of an actual pad that women use! But now that all of the joking is done and it has finally come out, I’m curious as to what the point of it is?
How are you supposed to type when your other hand is holding it? It just seems dumb, at least to me. My boyfriend’s dad has an iPhone, laptop, and desktop but still got an iPad. I asked him why and he said it’s good for airplanes and his job. I still don’t understand why someone would pay $600 for it.
What do you think lovelies? Will you be purchasing one?
cherry blossom / 25 posts
no. i love my macbook pro.
orchid / 226 posts
Nope.
I like PCs better.

I hated this product from the moment it came out. I don’t know why I have an undying, passionate hate for it, but I do. Laptops are a much greater invention.
guest
Over consumption.
guest
It is targeted at Mac fanboys..
guest
it is largely pointless right now. but in 5 years this device and those like it will probably be so common that we’ll look back and wonder how it ever was the case that people didn’t think it served a purpose.

still getting over the fact that it’s named “iPad”
dahlia / 2942 posts
So…is it actually a computer?
guest
i thought it was supposed to be like a tablet, but a mac version (for engineers and graphic designers and stuff) but i’m not sure if that’s actually what it’s used for..

@Meowmeowkimmaee@xanga - Yes, it is.

when i first heard about i was excited, i thought it would be a computer.

@mz_d0rkabl3@xanga - haha yes ! i still giggle at the name,

@nephyo@xanga - a very acute prediction. I’m sure companies like samsung will achieve product responses to the same devices. Not that it’s hard.
guest
@OneDayInWonderland@xanga - It is a computer.
guest
@Sounds0fLaughter@xanga - it doesn’t have flash

I already own an Ipod touch
I think Apple has made a lot of innovative products. This is not one of them.
sunflower / 451 posts
Why the hell did they call it that? Seriously! It sounds like you’re supposed to listen to music using your menstrual products. Ew!
guest
I concur, it’s pretty damn pointless.

iPhone, laptop…all in one compact device. Personally, my laptop and iphone= life, but I hate carrying both around. It’s not like I can whip out my Macbook Pro at any given moment since it’s kind of big.
You don’t know the convenience of it unless you rely on technology for work.
guest
it’s good for people who travel around a lot…. like my parents said they would buy one because it’s not as small and confusing as the iphone/itouch but it’s not huge as an laptop..
guest
@OneDayInWonderland@xanga - So? A computer is not a computer without a certain piece of software?
guest
@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - Exactly.
guest
it’s meant to be the Apple take on netbooks. if you have an iphone and a macbook already, i don’t really know why you would need something that functions like a computer. the price though, i think is justified through the quality and the thought and design invested into creating such a product.
Apple can do no wrong in my eyes, it’s all i’ve ever used. [my friends laugh at me when they see that i don't know how to use PCs.] that said, i have to admit i expected a little more from Apple, and since i never needed anything like a netbook, i won’t be getting it.
oh, and yeah, its name doesn’t really help its case. maybe they should’ve gone with the rumored “iSlate” title instead.
guest
I actually think its extremely useless to use an Ipad
because ..
IT suckssk

Wait what the fuck, I thought it was a sanitary napkin.

Compared to Sony P Series. That are super tiny and go for $700+ I would understand that it’s a fair buy… It would be super handy for work, instead of carrying heavy ass technical publications around all the time. plus user friendly
I still love my Sony Vaio P though. Sony/PC fo Life.

Although right now it has many missing features in comparison to a normal computer/laptop,
I think in the future they would create an upgraded version of the I-pad (or maybe their competitors might)
that is much better and has more features.
er at least that’s what I hope to see in the future!
I mean, it would be so neat to be able to carry around just that thin screen
and be able to do everything on it that you can do right now on a computer/laptop!
and the touchscreen just makes everything better.
but until then, I don’t think I’ll be purchasing one
guest
what does it actually do? o_o
ranunculus / 3285 posts
I will not be purchasing one in the near future.
guest
It would make a nice control centre for your home. With appropriate added software/hardware.
sunflower / 302 posts
It has the same operating system as the iphone (where is OSX?!), it can only run one application at a time, and it cannot support flash? What the hell, Apple, what the hell? Apparently people just want an excuse to caress their Macware.
My feelings are summarized by this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_EcybyLJS8
guest
@Donutism@xanga - exactly
its a big itouch, it even runs on the iphone system. im not that important that i need something besides my phone or computer to stay in contact or play games on.
i actually thought it was gunna be a portable touchscreen computer but i guess not.
guest
if you place it on your lap and type with both hands, it doesn’t provide much privacy compared to a normal laptop’s folded screen, not that I have anything to hide, I just like my privacy
guest
Nah, they could have done a better job with this product.
No multitasking.
No flash support.
Can only use a Mac OS.
No camera.
I’m pretty sure the only Apple product I’ll ever buy is an iPod.
daffodil / 1622 posts
i dont mind it if its free

The iTouch is better, but my bff and I were just talking about it last night how it has other features, but it seems so fragile and looks like you have to hold it like a magazine cause you couldn’t set that flat device right on it’s own you’d have to like bend over, but it’s not something I’d really want, I love the iTouch!
guest
It’s a netbook, so really it is different than a laptop and an iphone. The way apple did it though it’s more of an iPhone than a laptop and they should have gone the other direction. I’m hearing really good things about it, but I really don’t have a use for one.
guest
Nah. It’s pointless.

i dunno maybe ….

It creates consumerism, as well as conspicuous consumption.
guest
I HAVE A MINI IPAD!
it’s called an ipod touch.
guest
LOL who care
even ppl make fun of it ..when it 1st came out ..it more sale then iphone 3GLOL my mom want one cuz she doesn’t hav a laptop ….Lol
guest
kinda interested in it, but I <3 my macbook pro. Plus it doesn’t have a camera. i’m sure after a few months that wouldn’t be so expensive. look what happened to the iphone.
guest
Those things are cool, but I’m not one of those people who would pay $600 for it. I’m a laggard and I’m content to wait until it’s been out for a while, all the bugs have been worked out, and the price has dropped to $250. ;o)
guest
It didn’t make much sense to me to make this, but my friend made a really good point about it yesterday. Basically, the iPad’s touchscreen is going to make sketches for engineering, art design, music creation, lighting design, video editing, and other things like this much easier to create and manage. It reminds me a bit of the screen in Minority Report, only smaller and you have to actually touch the screen. But it looks like you’ll be able to do the same kinds of things, like pushing images around, starting, stopping, and cutting videos easily, etc.
That said, I’m probably not getting one because I’m not involved in any of these areas that I said the iPad would improve.
guest
i dont get it. lol i just see it as a giant ipod touch
guest
We bought a couple for work. In a medical office environment, it’ll be really convenient for our doctor to just bring the iPad (which is compatible with our medical records program) in with her to visit patients, rather than whipping out a full on laptop.
hydrangea / 77 posts
the point is that it’s by Apple and Apple wanted to see how many people would rush to buy something just because it’s by Apple. IMO.
guest
No. I am not going to buy an iPad. I haven’t even put any thought into buying an iPhone or iPod. My gadgets work just fine and I like them. And they weren’t as expensive.
guest
i have an iPhone3GS and LOVE IT… but i think the iPad is silly after looking at it and doing my research on it…basically its a big ipod touch…i have a PC laptop and my iPhone i think i’m ok with out this piece of technology!!
guest
@nephyo@xanga - yup, seems to be what happens with everything apple invites (can you say ipod? haha)
guest
@x__BeautiifulxDiisaster__x@xanga - they are amazingly good at popularizing products. Nobody had an mp3 player, then ipod and everybody has an mp3 player. Nobody had a smart phone except for the super techy amongst us, then the iphone comes out and everybody has a smart phone. I would say it’s a safe bet that the same thing will happen/is already happening with tablet computers/ebook readers.
guest
Then don’t get one.
guest
An iPod that needs to phone up Jenny Craig.
guest
its basically a iphone/laptop hybrid without the closing function that protects the screen *shrug*
guest
Imma get a mini little netbook for cheaper lol
guest
i won’t be purchasing one cuz i don’t have $600…and i don’t need one. that being said, i think it would be cool to have just to have it. it’s like a bigger version of an ipod touch. have you ever tried to type on an ipod touch? it’s freaking annoying. yeah, i have a laptop, but sometimes i just like to whip out the ole ipod and look something up. how much simpler would it be if the screen were 3x the size? a lot. but i don’t have a real job and i don’t fly. so i don’t need one. but i still think they’re cool. and everyone needs to get over it now.
guest
To me, it’s useless. Useless and ready to be broken, stepped on, and forgotten. But then again, I’m a PC person on her last. After this, I will join the Mac side. I just….I dunno…it reminds me of a giant iTouch.
guest
well you can also use it as an E-reader… they have the kindle app so you can get all the same books the kindle has . plus it has 123423423423423 other awesome things… email, internet, touchscreen…so, it’s pretty awesome for somebody like me who was going to get the kindle for almost $300 . oh and im an English major so I need like 35 books per semester, so its a lot cheaper and easier to carry just this than ALL OF THOSE BOOKS.
why everybody hatin?
guest
It’s nice.
guest
The use of it may be limited to the contextual use but I think it is quite user friendly for people who have trouble working the mouse.

I have itouch, macbook pro, so really is it necessary? hmmm…. another thing you need to buy a cover for. i realized how delicate the ipod touch and macbook pro exterior are, poor things are scratched and/or dented… The apple sales people at the store I went didn’t take advantage of upselling me on accessories. If I was informed on how delicate the aluminum exterior was, I would have shelled out the money. Apple should push their sales people on upselling. I think its probably good for someone who wants to keep a seperate place to store E-books and such. Also perhaps someone who doesn’t have computer or ipod. Its cheaper at about 500 dollars. I don’t know. I personally won’t buy one. I’m happy with what I have now. I hope Apple comes up with something else completely new and innovative next. Why not an apple video camera?!!? Perhaps those mini HD cams that you plug into an ipad, macbook,or Apple computer? That would be cool.Anyway I’m an Apple girl for life and won’t go back to PC.
guest
It just looks like something cool from Apple that, just like many other Apple products, I most probably will not buy. Don’t be surprised, I don’t own an iPod or iPhone or Macbook. I rock.
guest
no, too expensive!

I dream of a world where flash won’t be necessary.
Steve Jobs has even admitted that he’d prefer mac users not download flash. It screws with both apple and microsoft. It freezes up lap tops regardless or whether or not they’re macs or pcs. Besides they’re working on this whole html 5 thing, lets just give that a shot.
