In fairly recent pop culture, Lady GaGa and Ke$ha rattled the urban world with their outlandish performances and less-than-everyday wardrobes.  Although inspirational, they seem to be fit the cliche of someone who strives to be different, not because that is who they are but in fact to get attention.  A clever way to get the media and public’s attention, no doubt.

It seems that cliques have also formed, in society everywhere, with “freaks” or those who “nobody understands.”  What is this sudden obsession with being different?  It seems that when one separates themselves for being “too odd” or “different”, they group themselves with others who are the same.  In a lot of cases, the difference seems forced.  Regardless, it’s a vicious circle that proves nothing.

Do you think the Unique-ism is in response to contemporary culture?  A cry for attention?  Or something else?
